[1]And when he had called his twelue disciples [vnto hym] he gaue them power agaynst vncleane spirites, to cast them out, and to heale all maner of sicknesse, and all maner of disease [1]AND he called his twelve disciples, and gave them power over the unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and sickness.
[2]The names of the twelue Apostles are these. The first, Simon, whiche is called Peter, and Andrewe his brother, Iames, the [sonne] of Zebedee, & Iohn his brother [2]The names of the twelve apostles are these: The first of them Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
[3]Philip, & Bartholomewe, Thomas and Matthewe, which [had ben] a Publicane, Iames, ye [sonne] of Alphee, & Lebbeus, whose surname was Taddeus [3]Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Mat|the publican, James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus surnamed Thaddaeus;
[4]Simon [the] Cananite, & Iudas Iscariot, which also betrayed hym [4]Simon the Zealot, and Judas of Iscariot, who betrayed him.
[5]Iesus sent foorth these twelue, who he comaunded, saying. Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into the citie of the Samaritanes enter ye not [5]These twelve Jesus sent out, and charged them and said, Keep away from pagan practices, and do not enter a Samaritan city;
[6]But go rather to the lost sheepe of the house of Israel [6]But above all, go to the sheep which are lost from the house of Israel.
[7]As ye go, preache, saying: The kyngdome of heauen is at hande [7]And as you go, preach and say, that the kingdom of heaven is near.
[8]Heale the sicke, cleanse ye lepers, rayse the dead, cast out deuyls. Freely ye haue receaued, freely geue [8]Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you have received, freely give.
[9]Possesse not golde, nor syluer, nor brasse in your purses [9]Do not accumulate gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses;
[10]Nor yet scrippe, towardes your iourney, neither two coates, neither shoes, nor yet a staffe. For the workman is worthy of his meate [10]Nor a bag for the journey, nor two shirts and shoes, nor a staff; for a laborer is at least worthy of his food.
[11]But to whatsoeuer citie or towne ye shall come, inquire who is worthy in it, and there abyde, tyll ye go thence [11]Whatever city or town you enter, ask who is trustworthy in it, and remain there until you leave.
[12]And when ye come into an house, salute the same [12]And when you enter into the house, salute the family.
[13]And if the house be worthy, let your peace come vpon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace returne to you again [13]And if the family is trustworthy, your salutation of peace shall come upon it; but if it is not trustworthy, your salutation shall return to you.
[14]And whosoeuer shal not receaue you, nor wyll heare your preachyng: when ye depart out of that house, or that citie, shake of the dust of your feete [14]Whoever will not welcome you, and will not listen to your words, when you leave the house or the village, shake off the sand from your feet.
[15]Ueryly I say vnto you, it shalbe easier for the lande of the Sodomites and Gomorreans, in the day of iudgement, then for that citie [15]Truly I say to you, that it will be easier for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.
[16]Beholde, I sende you foorth, as sheepe in the middest of woolfes. Be ye therfore wyse as serpentes, and harmelesse as doues [16]Behold, I am sending you like lambs among the wolves; therefore be wise as serpents, and pure as doves.
[17]But beware of men. For they shall delyuer you vp to the councels, and shal scourge you in their synagogues [17]But be careful of men; for they will deliver you up to the courts, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
[18]And ye shalbe brought to the head rulers, and kynges, for my sake, in witnesse to them, and to the Gentiles [18]And they will bring you before the presence of governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
[19]But whe they delyuer you vp, take ye no thought, how or what ye shal speake. For it shalbe geuen you, euen in that same houre, what ye shall speake [19]But when they deliver you up, do not worry as to how or what you will speak; for it will be given to you in that very hour what you are to speak.
[20]For it is not ye that speake, but ye spirite of your father, which speaketh in you [20]For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father, which speaks through you.
[21]The brother shall delyuer vp the brother to death, and the father the sonne, & the chyldren shall ryse agaynst their fathers, and mothers, and shall put them to death [21]Brother will deliver up his own brother to death, and father his son; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.
[22]And ye shalbe hated of all men, for my names sake: but he that endureth to the ende, shalbe saued [22]And you will be hated by everybody because of my name; but he who endures until the end shall live.
[23]But, when they persecute you in this citie, flee ye into another. For verily I say vnto you, ye shall not ende all the cities of Israel, tyll the sonne of man be come [23]When they persecute you in this city, escape to another; for truly I say to you, that you shall not finish converting all the cities of the house of Israel, until the Son of man returns.
[24]The disciple is not aboue the maister, nor the seruaunt aboue his lorde [24]No disciple is more important than his teacher, and no servant than his master.
[25]It is enough for the disciple, that he be as his maister is: and that the seruaunt, be as his lorde is. If they haue called the lorde of the house Beelzebub: howe much more shall they call them of his householde so [25]It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and for a servant to be like his master. If then, they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household.
[26]Feare them not therfore. For there is nothing close, that shal not be opened: & nothing hyd, that shall not be knowen [26]Therefore do not be afraid of them; for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, and hidden that will not be known.
[27]What I tell you in darknesse, that speake ye in lyght: And what ye heare in the eare, that preach ye on the houses [27]What I tell you in the dark, tell it in the daylight; and what you hear with your ears, preach on the house tops.
[28]And feare ye not them, which kyll the body, but are not able to kyll the soule. But rather feare hym, which is able to destroy both soule and body in hell [28]Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but who cannot kill the soul; but above all, be afraid of him who can destroy both the soul and the body in hell.
[29]Are not two litle sparowes solde for a farthyng? And one of the shall not light on the grounde, without your father [29]Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall on the ground without your Father's will.
[30]Yea, euen all the heeres of your head are numbred [30]But so far as you are concerned, even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
[31]Feare ye not therefore, ye are of more value then many sparowes [31]Therefore fear not; you are much more important than many sparrows.
[32]Euery one therfore, that shall confesse me before men, hym wyll I confesse also, before my father, which is in heaues [32]Everyone therefore who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
[33]But whosoeuer shall denye me before men, hym wyll I also denye, before my father, which is in heauens [33]But whoever will deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father in heaven.
[34]Thinke not that I am come to sende peace into the earth. I came not to sende peace, but a sworde [34]Do not expect that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
[35]For I am come to set a man at varyaunce agaynst his father, & the daughter agaynst her mother, and the daughter in lawe agaynst her mother in lawe [35]For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
[36]And a mans foes [shalbe] they of his owne householde [36]And a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.
[37]He that loueth father or mother, more then me, is not worthy of me. And he that loueth sonne or daughter, more the me, is not worthy of me [37]Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
[38]And he that taketh not his crosse, & foloweth me, is not worthy of me [38]And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
[39]He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that loseth his lyfe, for my sake, shall fynde it [39]He who is concerned about his life shall lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.
[40]He that receaueth you, receaueth me: & he that receaueth me, receaueth hym that sent me [40]Whoever receives you, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.
[41]He that receaueth a prophete, in the name of a prophete, shall receaue a prophetes rewarde. And he that receaueth a ryghteous man, in the name of a ryghteous man, shall receaue a ryghteous mans rewarde [41]He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and whoever receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward.
[42]And whosoeuer shall geue vnto one of these litle ones, to drynke, a cuppe of colde water only, in the name of a disciple, veryly I say vnto you, he shall not lose his rewarde [42]Anyone who gives a drink to one of these little ones, if only a cup of cold water, in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall never lose his reward.
