| [1]The same day, went Iesus out of the house, & sate by the sea syde |
[1]In illo die exiens Jesus de domo, sedebat secus mare. |
| [2]And great multitudes were gathered together vnto hym, so greatly that he went and sate in a shippe, and the whole multitude stoode on the shore |
[2]Et congregatæ sunt ad eum turbæ multæ, ita ut naviculam ascendens sederet: et omnis turba stabat in littore, |
| [3]And he spake many thynges to them in parables, saying: Beholde, the sower went foorth to sowe |
[3]et locutus est eis multa in parabolis, dicens: Ecce exiit qui seminat, seminare. |
| [4]And when he sowed, some seedes fell by the wayes side, and the fowles came, and deuoured them vp |
[4]Et dum seminat, quædam ceciderunt secus viam, et venerunt volucres cæli, et comederunt ea. |
| [5]Some fell vpon stony places, where they had not much earth, and anone they sprong vp, because they had no depenesse of earth |
[5]Alia autem ceciderunt in petrosa, ubi non habebant terram multam: et continuo exorta sunt, quia non habebant altitudinem terræ: |
| [6]And when the sonne was vp, they caught heate, and because they had not roote, they wythered away |
[6]sole autem orto æstuaverunt; et quia non habebant radicem, aruerunt. |
| [7]Agayne, some fell among thornes, and the thornes sprong vp and choked them |
[7]Alia autem ceciderunt in spinas: et creverunt spinæ, et suffocaverunt ea. |
| [8]But some fell into good grounde, and brought foorth fruite, some an hundred folde, some sixtie folde, some thirtie folde |
[8]Alia autem ceciderunt in terram bonam: et dabant fructum, aliud centesimum, aliud sexagesimum, aliud trigesimum. |
| [9]Who hath eares to heare, let hym heare |
[9]Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat. |
| [10]And the disciples came, and sayde vnto hym: Why speakest thou to them by parables |
[10]Et accedentes discipuli dixerunt ei: Quare in parabolis loqueris eis? |
| [11]He aunswered and sayde vnto them: because it is geuen vnto you, to knowe the secretes of the kyngdome of heauen, but to them, it is not geuen |
[11]Qui respondens, ait illis: Quia vobis datum est nosse mysteria regni cælorum: illis autem non est datum. |
| [12]For whosoeuer hath, to hym shalbe geuen, and he shall haue more aboundaunce: But whosoeuer hath not, from hym shalbe taken away, euen that he hath |
[12]Qui enim habet, dabitur ei, et abundabit: qui autem non habet, et quod habet auferetur ab eo. |
| [13]Therfore speake I to them in parables: because they seeyng, see not: and hearyng, they heare not: neither do they vnderstande |
[13]Ideo in parabolis loquor eis: quia videntes non vident, et audientes non audiunt, neque intelligunt. |
| [14]And in them is fulfylled the prophesie of Esaias, saying: by hearyng ye shall heare, and shall not vnderstande, and seeyng, ye shall see, & shall not perceaue |
[14]Et adimpletur in eis prophetia Isaiæ, dicentis: Auditu audietis, et non intelligetis: et videntes videbitis, et non videbitis. |
| [15]For this peoples heart is waxed grosse, and their eares are dull of hearyng, and their eyes haue they closed: lest at any tyme they shoulde see with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and shoulde vnderstande with their heart, & shoulde conuert, that I myght heale them |
[15]Incrassatum est enim cor populi hujus, et auribus graviter audierunt, et oculos suos clauserunt: nequando videant oculis, et auribus audiant, et corde intelligant, et convertantur, et sanem eos. |
| [16]But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your eares, for they heare |
[16]Vestri autem beati oculi quia vident, et aures vestræ quia audiunt. |
| [17]Ueryly I say vnto you, that many prophetes and ryghteous men haue desired to see those thynges which ye see, and haue not seene: and to heare those thynges which ye heare, and haue not hearde |
[17]Amen quippe dico vobis, quia multi prophetæ et justi cupierunt videre quæ videtis, et non viderunt: et audire quæ auditis, et non audierunt. |
| [18]Heare ye therfore the similitude of the sower |
[18]Vos ergo audite parabolam seminantis. |
| [19]When one heareth the worde of the kyngdome, and vnderstandeth it not, then commeth that euyll, and catcheth away that which was sowen in his heart: this is he, which receaued seede by the way syde |
[19]Omnis qui audit verbum regni, et non intelligit, venit malus, et rapit quod seminatum est in corde ejus: hic est qui secus viam seminatus est. |
| [20]But he that receaued the seede into stony places, the same is he that heareth the worde, and anone with ioy, receaueth it |
[20]Qui autem super petrosa seminatus est, hic est qui verbum audit, et continuo cum gaudio accipit illud: |
| [21]Yet hath he not roote in hym selfe, but dureth for a season: for when tribulation or persecution aryseth because of the worde, by and by he is offended |
[21]non habet autem in se radicem, sed est temporalis: facta autem tribulatione et persecutione propter verbum, continuo scandalizatur. |
| [22]He also that receaued seede into the thornes, is he that heareth the worde: and the care of this worlde, and the disceiptfulnes of ryches, choke vp the worde, and so is he made vnfruitfull |
[22]Qui autem seminatus est in spinis, hic est qui verbum audit, et sollicitudo sæculi istius, et fallacia divitiarum suffocat verbum, et sine fructu efficitur. |
| [23]But he that receaued seede into the good grounde, is he that heareth the worde, and vnderstandeth it, which also beareth fruite: and bryngeth foorth, some an hundred folde, some sixtie folde, some thirtie folde |
[23]Qui vero in terram bonam seminatus est, hic est qui audit verbum, et intelligit, et fructum affert, et facit aliud quidem centesimum, aliud autem sexagesimum, aliud vero trigesimum. |
| [24]Another parable put he foorth vnto them, saying: The kyngdome of heauen is likened vnto a man, which sowed good seede in his fielde |
[24]Aliam parabolam proposuit illis, dicens: Simile factum est regnum cælorum homini, qui seminavit bonum semen in agro suo: |
| [25]But whyle men slept, his enemye came & sowed tares among the wheate, and went his way |
[25]cum autem dormirent homines, venit inimicus ejus, et superseminavit zizania in medio tritici, et abiit. |
| [26]But when the blade was sprong vp, and had brought foorth fruite, then appeared the tares also |
[26]Cum autem crevisset herba, et fructum fecisset, tunc apparuerunt et zizania. |
| [27]So, the seruauntes of the housholder came, and sayde vnto hym. Sir, diddest not thou sowe good seede in thy fielde? from whence then hath it tares |
[27]Accedentes autem servi patrisfamilias, dixerunt ei: Domine, nonne bonum semen seminasti in agro tuo? unde ergo habet zizania? |
| [28]He sayde vnto them: the malicious man hath done this. The seruauntes sayde vnto hym: wylt thou then that we go, and gather them vp |
[28]Et ait illis: Inimicus homo hoc fecit. Servi autem dixerunt ei: Vis, imus, et colligimus ea? |
| [29]But he sayde, nay: lest whyle ye gather vp the tares, ye rote vp also the wheate with them |
[29]Et ait: Non: ne forte colligentes zizania, eradicetis simul cum eis et triticum. |
| [30]Let both growe together vntyll the haruest: & in tyme of haruest, I wyl say to the reapers, gather ye together first the tares, and bynde them in bundels to burne them: but carrie the wheate into my barne |
[30]Sinite utraque crescere usque ad messem, et in tempore messis dicam messoribus: Colligite primum zizania, et alligate ea in fasciculos ad comburendum: triticum autem congregate in horreum meum. |
| [31]Another parable put he foorth vnto them, saying. The kyngdome of heauen is like to a grayne of mustard seede, which a man toke & sowed in his fielde |
[31]Aliam parabolam proposuit eis dicens: Similis est regnum cælorum grano sinapis, quod accipiens homo seminavit in agro suo: |
| [32]Which in dede is the least of all seedes: But when it is growen, it is the greatest among hearbes: and is a tree, so that the byrdes of the ayre come & make their nestes in the braunches therof |
[32]quod minimum quidem est omnibus seminibus: cum autem creverit, majus est omnibus oleribus, et fit arbor, ita ut volucres cæli veniant, et habitent in ramis ejus. |
| [33]Another parable spake he vnto them: The kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto leuen, which a woman taketh & hydeth in three peckes of meale, tyll all be leuened |
[33]Aliam parabolam locutus est eis: Similis est regnum cælorum fermento, quod acceptum mulier abscondit in farinæ satis tribus, donec fermentatum est totum. |
| [34]All these thynges spake Iesus vnto the people in parables: and without a parable spake he not vnto them |
[34]Hæc omnia locutus est Jesus in parabolis ad turbas: et sine parabolis non loquebatur eis: |
| [35]That it myght be fulfylled, which was spoken by the prophete, that sayth: I wyll open my mouth in parables, I wyll speake foorth thynges which haue ben kept secrete from the foundation of the worlde |
[35]ut impleretur quod dictum erat per prophetam dicentem: Aperiam in parabolis os meum; eructabo abscondita a constitutione mundi. |
| [36]Then Iesus sent the people away, & went into the house: And his disciples came vnto hym, saying: Declare vnto vs the parable of the tares of the fielde |
[36]Tunc, dimissis turbis, venit in domum: et accesserunt ad eum discipuli ejus, dicentes: Edissere nobis parabolam zizaniorum agri. |
| [37]He aunswered and sayde vnto them: He that soweth the good seede, is the sonne of man |
[37]Qui respondens ait illis: Qui seminat bonum semen, est Filius hominis. |
| [38]The fielde, is the worlde: & the good seede, they are the childre of ye kingdom: the tares, are the chyldren of ye wicked |
[38]Ager autem est mundus. Bonum vero semen, hi sunt filii regnum. Zizania autem, filii sunt nequam. |
| [39]The enemie that soweth them, is the deuyll: the haruest, is the ende of the worlde: the reapers, be the Angels |
[39]Inimicus autem, qui seminavit ea, est diabolus. Messis vero, consummatio sæculi est. Messores autem, angeli sunt. |
| [40]Euen as the tares therfore, are gathered and brent in the fyre: so shall it be in the ende of this worlde |
[40]Sicut ergo colliguntur zizania, et igni comburuntur: sic erit in consummatione sæculi. |
| [41]The sonne of man shall sende foorth his Angels, and [they] shall gather out of his kyngdome, all thynges that offende, and them which do iniquitie |
[41]Mittet Filius hominis angelos suos, et colligent de regno ejus omnia scandala, et eos qui faciunt iniquitatem: |
| [42]And shall cast them into a furnesse of fyre: There shalbe waylyng and gnasshyng of teeth |
[42]et mittent eos in caminum ignis. Ibi erit fletus et stridor dentium. |
| [43]Then shall the ryghteous shine as the Sunne, in the kingdome of their father. Who hath eares to heare, let hym heare |
[43]Tunc justi fulgebunt sicut sol in regno Patris eorum. Qui habet aures audiendi, audiat. |
| [44]Agayne, the kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto treasure hyd in the fielde: the which a man hath founde, and hyd, and for ioy therof, goeth and selleth all that he hath, and byeth the fielde |
[44]Simile est regnum cælorum thesauro abscondito in agro: quem qui invenit homo, abscondit, et præ gaudio illius vadit, et vendit universa quæ habet, et emit agrum illum. |
| [45]Agayne, the kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto a marchaunt man, seekyng goodly pearles |
[45]Iterum simile est regnum cælorum homini negotiatori, quærenti bonas margaritas. |
| [46]Which, when he founde one precious pearle, went and solde all that he had, and bought it |
[46]Inventa autem una pretiosa margarita, abiit, et vendidit omnia quæ habuit, et emit eam. |
| [47]Agayne, the kyngdome of heauen is lyke vnto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of all kynde |
[47]Iterum simile est regnum cælorum sagenæ missæ in mare, et ex omni genere piscium congreganti. |
| [48]Which when it was full, men drewe to lande, and sat downe, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away |
[48]Quam, cum impleta esset, educentes, et secus littus sedentes, elegerunt bonis in vasa, malos autem foras miserunt. |
| [49]So shall it be at the ende of the world: The Angels shall come foorth, and seuer the bad from among the iuste |
[49]Sic erit in consummatione sæculi: exibunt angeli, et separabunt malos de medio justorum, |
| [50]And shall cast them into a furnesse of fyre: there shalbe waylyng and gnasshyng of teeth |
[50]et mittent eos in caminum ignis: ibi erit fletus, et stridor dentium. |
| [51]Iesus sayth vnto them: haue ye vnderstande all these thynges? They say vnto hym: yea Lorde |
[51]Intellexistis hæc omnia? Dicunt ei: Etiam. |
| [52]Then sayde he vnto them: Therfore, euery Scribe which is taught vnto the kyngdome of heauen, is lyke vnto a man that is an householder, whiche bryngeth foorth out of his treasure, thynges newe and olde |
[52]Ait illis: Ideo omnis scriba doctus in regno cælorum, similis est homini patrifamilias, qui profert de thesauro suo nova et vetera. |
| [53]And it came to passe, that when Iesus had finished these parables, he departed thence |
[53]Et factum est, cum consummasset Jesus parabolas istas, transiit inde. |
| [54]And when he came into his owne countrey, he taught them in their synagogues, in so much, that they were astonyed, and sayde: whence commeth this wysdome and powers vnto hym |
[54]Et veniens in patriam suam, docebat eos in synagogis eorum, ita ut mirarentur, et dicerent: Unde huic sapientia hæc, et virtutes? |
| [55]Is not this the carpenters sonne? Is not his mother called Marie? and his brethren, Iames, and Ioses, and Simon, and Iudas |
[55]Nonne hic est fabri filius? nonne mater ejus dicitur Maria, et fratres ejus, Jacobus, et Joseph, et Simon, et Judas? |
| [56]And are not all his sisters with vs? whence hath he then all these thynges |
[56]et sorores ejus, nonne omnes apud nos sunt? unde ergo huic omnia ista? |
| [57]And they were offended in hym. Iesus sayde vnto them: A prophete is not without honour, saue in his owne countrey, and in his owne house |
[57]Et scandalizabantur in eo. Jesus autem dixit eis: Non est propheta sine honore, nisi in patria sua, et in domo sua. |
| [58]And he did not many mightie workes there, because of their vnbeliefe |
[58]Et non fecit ibi virtutes multas propter incredulitatem illorum. |
