[1]And after six days Jesus took Cephas, and James, and John his brother, and conducted them alone to a high mountain. [1]And after six days, Jesus took Peter, and James, and John his brother, and brought them up into an high mountain apart,
[2]And Jesus was changed before them: and his face shone like the sun; and his vestments became white like the light. [2]And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his clothes were as white as the light.
[3]And there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, in conversation with him. [3]And behold, there appeared unto them Moses, and Elijah, talking with him.
[4]Then Cephas answered and said to Jesus: My Lord, it is good for us to be here: and, if it please thee, we will make here three booths; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. [4]Then answered Peter, and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
[5]And while he was yet speaking, lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and there was a voice from the cloud which said: This is my beloved Son, in whom I have pleasure; hear ye him. [5]While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud shadowed them: and behold, there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear him.
[6]And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their faces, and were much afraid. [6]And when the disciples heard that, they fell on their faces and were sore afraid.
[7]And Jesus came to them and touched them, and said: Arise, and be not afraid. [7]Then Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
[8]And they raised their eyes, and they saw no person, except Jesus only. [8]And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
[9]And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, and said to them: Speak of this vision before no person, until the Son of man shall have arisen from the dead. [9]And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Show the vision to no man, until the Son of man rise again from the dead.
[10]And his disciples asked him, and said to him: Why then do the Scribes say, that Elijah must first come? [10]And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the Scribes that Elijah must first come?
[11]Jesus answered, and said to them: Elijah doth first come, to fulfill every thing. [11]And Jesus answered, and said unto them, Certainly Elijah must first come, and restore all things.
[12]And I say to you. That, behold, Elijah hath come, and they did not know him; and they have done to him whatever they pleased: and, in like manner, also the Son of man is to suffer from them. [12]But I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they would: likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
[13]Then the disciples understood, that he spake to them of John the Baptizer. [13]Then the disciples perceived that he spake unto them of John Baptist.
[14]And when they came to the multitude, a man approached him, and bowed himself on his knees, [14]And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, and kneeled down to him.
[15]and said to him: My Lord, compassionate me. I have a son who is a lunatic, and grievously afflicted; for often he falleth into the fire, and often into the water. [15]And said, Master, have pity on my son: for he is lunatic, and is sore vexed: for oft times he falleth into the fire, and oft times into the water.
[16]And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not heal him. [16]And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not heal him.
[17]Jesus answered and said: O unbelieving and perverse generation ! How long shall I be with you? and how long bear with you? Bring him here to me. [17]Then Jesus answered, and said, O generation, faithless, and crooked, how long now shall I be with you! how long now shall I suffer you! bring him thither to me.
[18]And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it departed from him: and from that hour the child was healed. [18]And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he went out of him: and the child was healed at that hour.
[19]Then came the disciples to Jesus, apart, and said to him: Why could not we heal him? [19]Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
[20]Jesus said to them: Because of your unbelief. For verily I say to you, That if there be in you faith like a grain of mustard seed, ye may say to this mountain, Remove hence, and it will remove: and nothing will be too hard for you. [20]And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for Verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as much as is a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove: and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
[21]But this kind goeth not out, except by fasting and prayer. [21]Howbeit this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting.
[22]And while they were resident in Galilee, Jesus said to them: The Son of man is to be betrayed into the hands of men; [22]And as they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men,
[23]and they will kill him; and the third day he will arise. And it saddened them much. [23]And they shall kill him, but the third day shall he rise again: and they were very sorry.
[24]And when they came to Capernaum, those who receive the two drachmas of capitation money came to Cephas, and said to him: Doth not your rabbi pay his two drachmas? [24]And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received poll money, came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute?
[25]He said to them, Yes. And when Cephas had entered the house, Jesus anticipated him and said to him: How doth it appear to thee, Simon? The kings of the earth, of whom do they receive tribute and capitation money? of their children, or of aliens? [25]He said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the Kings of the earth take tribute, or poll money? of their children, or of strangers?
[26]Simon said to him: Of aliens. Jesus said to him: Then the children are free. [26]Peter said unto him, Of strangers. Then said Jesus unto him, Then are the children free.
[27]But still, lest they be stumbled with us, go thou to the sea and cast in a fish-hook, and the fish that shall first come up, open its mouth, and thou wilt find a stater : that take, and give for me and for thyself. [27]Nevertheless, lest we should offend them: go to the sea, and cast in an angle, and take the first fish that cometh up, and when you hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of twenty pence: that take, and give it unto them for me and thee.
