[1]εἴ τις οὗν παράκλησις ἐν χριστῶ, εἴ τι παραμύθιον ἀγάπης, εἴ τις κοινωνία πνεύματος, εἴ τις σπλάγχνα καὶ οἰκτιρμοί, [1]If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any compassion and mercy,
[2]πληρώσατέ μου τὴν χαρὰν ἵνα τὸ αὐτὸ φρονῆτε, τὴν αὐτὴν ἀγάπην ἔχοντες, σύμψυχοι, τὸ ἓν φρονοῦντες, [2]Fulfill my joy, that ye be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, and of one judgment,
[3]μηδὲν κατ᾽ ἐριθείαν μηδὲ κατὰ κενοδοξίαν, ἀλλὰ τῇ ταπεινοφροσύνῃ ἀλλήλους ἡγούμενοι ὑπερέχοντας ἑαυτῶν, [3]That nothing be done through contention or vain glory, but that in meekness of mind every man esteem other better than himself.
[4]μὴ τὰ ἑαυτῶν ἕκαστος σκοποῦντες, ἀλλὰ [καὶ] τὰ ἑτέρων ἕκαστοι. [4]Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of other men.
[5]τοῦτο φρονεῖτε ἐν ὑμῖν ὃ καὶ ἐν χριστῶ ἰησοῦ, [5]Let the same mind be in you that was even in Christ Jesus,
[6]ὃς ἐν μορφῇ θεοῦ ὑπάρχων οὐχ ἁρπαγμὸν ἡγήσατο τὸ εἶναι ἴσα θεῶ, [6]Who being in the form of God, thought it no robbery to be equal with God:
[7]ἀλλὰ ἑαυτὸν ἐκένωσεν μορφὴν δούλου λαβών, ἐν ὁμοιώματι ἀνθρώπων γενόμενος· καὶ σχήματι εὑρεθεὶς ὡς ἄνθρωπος [7]But he made himself of no reputation, and took on him the form of a servant, and was made like unto men, and was found in shape as a man.
[8]ἐταπείνωσεν ἑαυτὸν γενόμενος ὑπήκοος μέχρι θανάτου, θανάτου δὲ σταυροῦ. [8]He humbled himself, and became obedient unto the death, even the death of the cross.
[9]διὸ καὶ ὁ θεὸς αὐτὸν ὑπερύψωσεν καὶ ἐχαρίσατο αὐτῶ τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ὑπὲρ πᾶν ὄνομα, [9]Wherefore God hath also highly exalted him, and given him a Name above every name,
[10]ἵνα ἐν τῶ ὀνόματι ἰησοῦ πᾶν γόνυ κάμψῃ ἐπουρανίων καὶ ἐπιγείων καὶ καταχθονίων, [10]That at the Name of Jesus should every knee bow, both of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth,
[11]καὶ πᾶσα γλῶσσα ἐξομολογήσηται ὅτι κύριος ἰησοῦς χριστὸς εἰς δόξαν θεοῦ πατρός. [11]And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord, unto the glory of God the Father.
[12]ὥστε, ἀγαπητοί μου, καθὼς πάντοτε ὑπηκούσατε, μὴ ὡς ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ μου μόνον ἀλλὰ νῦν πολλῶ μᾶλλον ἐν τῇ ἀπουσίᾳ μου, μετὰ φόβου καὶ τρόμου τὴν ἑαυτῶν σωτηρίαν κατεργάζεσθε· [12]Wherefore my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in mine absence, so make an end of your own salvation with fear and trembling.
[13]θεὸς γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ἐνεργῶν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ τὸ θέλειν καὶ τὸ ἐνεργεῖν ὑπὲρ τῆς εὐδοκίας. [13]For it is God which worketh in you, both the will and the deed, even of his good pleasure.
[14]πάντα ποιεῖτε χωρὶς γογγυσμῶν καὶ διαλογισμῶν, [14]Do all things without murmuring and reasonings,
[15]ἵνα γένησθε ἄμεμπτοι καὶ ἀκέραιοι, τέκνα θεοῦ ἄμωμα μέσον γενεᾶς σκολιᾶς καὶ διεστραμμένης, ἐν οἷς φαίνεσθε ὡς φωστῆρες ἐν κόσμῳ, [15]That ye may be blameless, and pure, and the sons of God without rebuke in the midst of a naughty and crooked nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world,
[16]λόγον ζωῆς ἐπέχοντες, εἰς καύχημα ἐμοὶ εἰς ἡμέραν χριστοῦ, ὅτι οὐκ εἰς κενὸν ἔδραμον οὐδὲ εἰς κενὸν ἐκοπίασα. [16]Holding forth the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither have labored in vain.
[17]ἀλλὰ εἰ καὶ σπένδομαι ἐπὶ τῇ θυσίᾳ καὶ λειτουργίᾳ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν, χαίρω καὶ συγχαίρω πᾶσιν ὑμῖν· [17]Yea, and though I be offered up upon the sacrifice, and service of your faith, I am glad, and rejoice with you all.
[18]τὸ δὲ αὐτὸ καὶ ὑμεῖς χαίρετε καὶ συγχαίρετέ μοι. [18]For the same cause also be ye glad, and rejoice with me.
[19]ἐλπίζω δὲ ἐν κυρίῳ ἰησοῦ τιμόθεον ταχέως πέμψαι ὑμῖν, ἵνα κἀγὼ εὐψυχῶ γνοὺς τὰ περὶ ὑμῶν. [19]And I trust in the Lord Jesus, to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.
[20]οὐδένα γὰρ ἔχω ἰσόψυχον ὅστις γνησίως τὰ περὶ ὑμῶν μεριμνήσει, [20]For I have no man like minded, who will faithfully care for your matters.
[21]οἱ πάντες γὰρ τὰ ἑαυτῶν ζητοῦσιν, οὐ τὰ ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ. [21]For all seek their own, and not that which is Jesus Christ's.
[22]τὴν δὲ δοκιμὴν αὐτοῦ γινώσκετε, ὅτι ὡς πατρὶ τέκνον σὺν ἐμοὶ ἐδούλευσεν εἰς τὸ εὐαγγέλιον. [22]But ye know the proof of him, that as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the Gospel.
[23]τοῦτον μὲν οὗν ἐλπίζω πέμψαι ὡς ἂν ἀφίδω τὰ περὶ ἐμὲ ἐξαυτῆς· [23]Him therefore I hope to send as soon as I know how it will go with me,
[24]πέποιθα δὲ ἐν κυρίῳ ὅτι καὶ αὐτὸς ταχέως ἐλεύσομαι. [24]And trust in the Lord, that I also myself shall come shortly.
[25]ἀναγκαῖον δὲ ἡγησάμην ἐπαφρόδιτον τὸν ἀδελφὸν καὶ συνεργὸν καὶ συστρατιώτην μου, ὑμῶν δὲ ἀπόστολον καὶ λειτουργὸν τῆς χρείας μου, πέμψαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς, [25]But I supposed it necessary to send my brother Epaphroditus unto you, my companion in labor, and fellow soldier, even your messenger, and he that ministered unto me such things as I wanted.
[26]ἐπειδὴ ἐπιποθῶν ἦν πάντας ὑμᾶς, καὶ ἀδημονῶν διότι ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἠσθένησεν. [26]For he longed after all you, and was full of heaviness, because ye had heard, that he had been sick.
[27]καὶ γὰρ ἠσθένησεν παραπλήσιον θανάτῳ· ἀλλὰ ὁ θεὸς ἠλέησεν αὐτόν, οὐκ αὐτὸν δὲ μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐμέ, ἵνα μὴ λύπην ἐπὶ λύπην σχῶ. [27]And no doubt he was sick, very near unto death: but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
[28]σπουδαιοτέρως οὗν ἔπεμψα αὐτὸν ἵνα ἰδόντες αὐτὸν πάλιν χαρῆτε κἀγὼ ἀλυπότερος ὦ. [28]I sent him therefore the more diligently, that when ye should see him again, ye might rejoice, and I might be the less sorrowful.
[29]προσδέχεσθε οὗν αὐτὸν ἐν κυρίῳ μετὰ πάσης χαρᾶς, καὶ τοὺς τοιούτους ἐντίμους ἔχετε, [29]Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and make much of such:
[30]ὅτι διὰ τὸ ἔργον χριστοῦ μέχρι θανάτου ἤγγισεν, παραβολευσάμενος τῇ ψυχῇ ἵνα ἀναπληρώσῃ τὸ ὑμῶν ὑστέρημα τῆς πρός με λειτουργίας. [30]Because that for the work of Christ he was near unto death, and regarded not his life, to fulfill that service which was lacking on your part toward me.
