[[A prayer of the afflicted, when he shall be in distress, and pour forth his meditation before the Lord.]]
[1]A PrayerH8605 of the afflictedH6041, when he is overwhelmedH5848[H8799], and poureth outH8210[H8799] his complaintH7879 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. HearH8085[H8798] my prayerH8605, O LORDH3068, and let my cryH7775 comeH935 unto theeH8799. [1]O Lord, hear my prayer, and let my cry come unto thee.
[2]HideH5641[H8686] not thy faceH6440 from me in the dayH3117 when I am in troubleH6862; inclineH5186[H8685] thine earH241 unto me: in the dayH3117 when I callH7121[H8799] answerH6030[H8798] me speedilyH4118. [2]Hide not thy face from me in the time of my trouble: incline thine ears unto me: when I call, make haste to hear me.
[3]For my daysH3117 are consumedH3615[H8804] like smokeH6227, and my bonesH6106 are burnedH2787[H8738] as an hearthH4168. [3]For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned like an hearth.
[4]My heartH3820 is smittenH5221[H8717], and witheredH3001[H8799] like grassH6212; so that I forgetH7911[H8804] to eatH398[H8800] my breadH3899. [4]Mine heart is smitten and withereth like grass, because I forget to eat my bread.
[5]By reason of the voiceH6963 of my groaningH585 my bonesH6106 cleaveH1692[H8804] to my skinH1320. [5]For the voice of my groaning my bones do cleave to my skin.
[6]I am likeH1819[H8804] a pelicanH6893 of the wildernessH4057: I am like an owlH3563 of the desertH2723. [6]I am like a pelican of the wilderness: I am like an owl of the deserts.
[7]I watchH8245[H8804], and am as a sparrowH6833 aloneH909[H8802] upon the house topH1406. [7]I watch and am as a sparrow alone upon the housetop.
[8]Mine enemiesH341[H8802] reproachH2778[H8765] me all the dayH3117; and they that are madH1984[H8781] against me are swornH7650 against meH8738. [8]Mine enemies revile me daily, and they that rage against me, have sworn against me.
[9]For I have eatenH398[H8804] ashesH665 like breadH3899, and mingledH4537[H8804] my drinkH8249 with weepingH1065, [9]Surely I have eaten ashes as bread, and mingled my drink with weeping,
[10]BecauseH6440 of thine indignationH2195 and thy wrathH7110: for thou hast lifted me upH5375[H8804], and cast me downH7993.[H8686] [10]Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: for thou hast heaved me up, and cast me down.
[11]My daysH3117 are like a shadowH6738 that declinethH5186[H8803]; and I am witheredH3001[H8799] like grassH6212. [11]My days are like a shadow that fadeth, and I am withered like grass.
[12]But thou, O LORDH3068, shalt endureH3427[H8799] for everH5769; and thy remembranceH2143 unto allH1755 generationsH1755. [12]But thou, O Lord, dost remain forever, and thy remembrance from generation to generation.
[13]Thou shalt ariseH6965[H8799], and have mercyH7355[H8762] upon ZionH6726: for the timeH6256 to favourH2603[H8800] her, yea, the set timeH4150, is comeH935.[H8804] [13]Thou wilt arise and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to have mercy thereon, for the appointed time is come.
[14]For thy servantsH5650 take pleasureH7521[H8804] in her stonesH68, and favourH2603[H8779] the dust thereofH6083. [14]For thy servants delight in the stones thereof, and have pity on the dust thereof.
[15]So the heathenH1471 shall fearH3372[H8799] the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, and all the kingsH4428 of the earthH776 thy gloryH3519. [15]Then the heathen shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory,
[16]When the LORDH3068 shall build upH1129[H8804] ZionH6726, he shall appearH7200[H8738] in his gloryH3519. [16]When the Lord shall build up Zion , and shall appear in his glory,
[17]He will regardH6437[H8804] the prayerH8605 of the destituteH6199, and not despiseH959[H8804] their prayerH8605. [17]And shall turn unto the prayer of the desolate, and not despise their prayer.
[18]This shall be writtenH3789[H8735] for the generationH1755 to comeH314: and the peopleH5971 which shall be createdH1254[H8737] shall praiseH1984[H8762] the LORDH3050. [18]This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people, which shall be created, shall praise the Lord.
[19]For he hath looked downH8259[H8689] from the heightH4791 of his sanctuaryH6944; from heavenH8064 did the LORDH3068 beholdH5027[H8689] the earthH776; [19]For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary: out of the heaven did the Lord behold the earth,
[20]To hearH8085[H8800] the groaningH603 of the prisonerH615; to looseH6605[H8763] those that are appointedH1121 to deathH8546; [20]That he might hear the mourning of the prisoner, and deliver the children of death:
[21]To declareH5608[H8763] the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 in ZionH6726, and his praiseH8416 in JerusalemH3389; [21]That they may declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem,
[22]When the peopleH5971 are gatheredH6908[H8736] togetherH3162, and the kingdomsH4467, to serveH5647[H8800] the LORDH3068. [22]When the people shall be gathered together, and the kingdoms to serve the Lord.
[23]He weakenedH6031[H8765] my strengthH3581 in the wayH1870; he shortenedH7114[H8765] my daysH3117. [23]He abated my strength in the way, and shortened my days.
[24]I saidH559[H8799], O my GodH410, take me not awayH5927[H8686] in the midstH2677 of my daysH3117: thy yearsH8141 are throughout allH1755 generationsH1755. [24]And I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years endure from generation to generation .
[25]Of oldH6440 hast thou laid the foundationH3245[H8804] of the earthH776: and the heavensH8064 are the workH4639 of thy handsH3027. [25]Thou hast aforetime laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of thy hands.
[26]They shall perishH6[H8799], but thou shalt endureH5975[H8799]: yea, all of them shall wax oldH1086[H8799] like a garmentH899; as a vestureH3830 shalt thou changeH2498[H8686] them, and they shall be changedH2498:[H8799] [26]They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: even they all shall wax old as doth a garment: as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed.
[27]But thou art the same, and thy yearsH8141 shall have no endH8552.[H8735] [27]But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
[28]The childrenH1121 of thy servantsH5650 shall continueH7931[H8799], and their seedH2233 shall be establishedH3559[H8735] before theeH6440. [28]The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall stand fast in thy sight.
