[1]The `title of the hundrid and sixte salm. Alleluya. Knouleche ye to the Lord, for he is good; for his merci is in to the world. [1]PraiseH1984[H8761] ye the LORDH3050. O give thanksH3034[H8685] unto the LORDH3068; for he is goodH2896: for his mercyH2617 endureth for everH5769.
[2]Sei thei, that ben ayen bouyt of the Lord; whiche he ayen bouyte fro the hond of the enemye, fro cuntreis he gaderide hem togidere. [2]Who can utterH4448[H8762] the mighty actsH1369 of the LORDH3068? who can shew forthH8085[H8686] all his praiseH8416?
[3]Fro the risyng of the sunne, and fro the goyng doun; fro the north, and fro the see. [3]BlessedH835 are they that keepH8104[H8802] judgmentH4941, and he that doethH6213[H8802] righteousnessH6666 at all timesH6256.
[4]Thei erriden in wildirnesse, in a place with out watir; thei founden not weie of the citee of dwellyng place. [4]RememberH2142[H8798] me, O LORDH3068, with the favourH7522 that thou bearest unto thy peopleH5971: O visitH6485[H8798] me with thy salvationH3444;
[5]Thei weren hungri and thirsti; her soule failide in hem. [5]That I may seeH7200[H8800] the goodH2896 of thy chosenH972, that I may rejoiceH8055[H8800] in the gladnessH8057 of thy nationH1471, that I may gloryH1984[H8692] with thine inheritanceH5159.
[6]And thei crieden to the Lord, whanne thei weren set in tribulacioun; and he delyuerede hem fro her nedynesses. [6]We have sinnedH2398[H8804] with our fathersH1, we have committed iniquityH5753[H8689], we have done wickedlyH7561.[H8689]
[7]And he ledde forth hem in to the riyt weie; that thei schulden go in to the citee of dwelling. [8]The mercies of the Lord knouleche to hym; and hise merueilis knouleche to the sones of men. [8]Nevertheless he savedH3467[H8686] them for his name'sH8034 sake, that he might make his mighty powerH1369 to be knownH3045.[H8687]
[9]For he fillide a voide man; and he fillide with goodis an hungry man. [9]He rebukedH1605[H8799] the RedH5488 seaH3220 also, and it was dried upH2717[H8799]: so he ledH3212[H8686] them through the depthsH8415, as through the wildernessH4057.

[23]Thei that gon doun in to the see in schippis; and maken worching in many watris. [24]Thei sien the werkis of the Lord; and hise merueilis in the depthe. [24]Yea, they despisedH3988[H8799] the pleasantH2532 landH776, they believedH539[H8689] not his wordH1697:
[25]He seide, and the spirit of tempest stood; and the wawis therof weren arerid. [25]But murmuredH7279[H8735] in their tentsH168, and hearkenedH8085[H8804] not unto the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068.
[26]Thei stien til to heuenes, and goen doun `til to the depthis; the soule of hem failide in yuelis. [26]Therefore he lifted upH5375[H8799] his handH3027 against them, to overthrowH5307[H8687] them in the wildernessH4057:
[27]Thei weren troblid, and thei weren moued as a drunkun man; and al the wisdom of hem was deuourid. [27]To overthrowH5307[H8687] their seedH2233 also among the nationsH1471, and to scatterH2219[H8763] them in the landsH776.
[28]And thei crieden to the Lord, whanne thei weren set in tribulacioun; and he ledde hem out of her nedynessis. [28]They joinedH6775[H8735] themselves also unto BaalpeorH1187, and ateH398[H8799] the sacrificesH2077 of the deadH4191.[H8801]
[29]And he ordeynede the tempest therof in to a soft wynde; and the wawis therof weren stille. [29]Thus they provoked him to angerH3707[H8686] with their inventionsH4611: and the plagueH4046 brake inH6555 upon themH8799.
[30]And thei weren glad, for tho weren stille; and he ladde hem forth in to the hauene of her wille. [30]Then stood upH5975[H8799] PhinehasH6372, and executed judgmentH6419[H8762]: and so the plagueH4046 was stayedH6113.[H8735]

[32]And enhaunse thei him in the chirche of the puple; and preise thei him in the chaier of eldre men. [32]They angeredH7107[H8686] him also at the watersH4325 of strifeH4808[H8677][H4809], so that it went illH3415[H8799] with Moses for their sakesH4872:

[36]And he settide there hungri men; and thei maden a citee of dwelling. [36]And they servedH5647[H8799] their idolsH6091: which were a snare unto themH4170.
[37]And thei sowiden feeldis, and plauntiden vynes; and maden fruyt of birthe. [37]Yea, they sacrificedH2076[H8799] their sonsH1121 and their daughtersH1323 unto devilsH7700,
[38]And he blesside hem, and thei weren multiplied greetli; and he made not lesse her werk beestis. [39]And thei weren maad fewe; and thei weren trauelid of tribulacioun of yuelis and of sorewis. [39]Thus were they defiledH2930[H8799] with their own worksH4639, and went a whoringH2181[H8799] with their own inventionsH4611.
[40]Strijf was sched out on princes; and he made hem for to erre without the weie, and not in the weie. [40]Therefore was the wrathH639 of the LORDH3068 kindledH2734[H8799] against his peopleH5971, insomuch that he abhorredH8581[H8762] his own inheritanceH5159.
[41]And he helpide the pore man fro pouert; and settide meynees as a scheep bringynge forth lambren. [41]And he gaveH5414[H8799] them into the handH3027 of the heathenH1471; and they that hatedH8130[H8802] them ruledH4910 over themH8799.
[42]Riytful men schulen se, and schulen be glad; and al wickidnesse schal stoppe his mouth. [42]Their enemiesH341[H8802] also oppressedH3905[H8799] them, and they were brought into subjectionH3665[H8735] under their handH3027.
[43]Who is wijs, and schal kepe these thingis; and schal vndirstonde the mercies of the Lord? [43]ManyH7227 timesH6471 did he deliverH5337[H8686] them; but they provokedH4784[H8686] him with their counselH6098, and were brought lowH4355[H8799] for their iniquityH5771.
[44]Nevertheless he regardedH7200[H8799] their afflictionH6862, when he heardH8085[H8800] their cryH7440:
[45]And he rememberedH2142[H8799] for them his covenantH1285, and repentedH5162[H8735] according to the multitudeH7230 of his merciesH2617.
[46]He madeH5414[H8799] them also to be pitiedH7356 ofH6440 all those that carried them captivesH7617.[H8802]
[47]SaveH3467[H8685] us, O LORDH3068 our GodH430, and gatherH6908[H8761] us from among the heathenH1471, to give thanksH3034[H8687] unto thy holyH6944 nameH8034, and to triumphH7623[H8692] in thy praiseH8416.
