[1]Igitur David et magistratus exercitus segregaverunt in ministerium filios Asaph, et Heman, et Idithun, qui prophetarent in citharis, et psalteriis, et cymbalis secundum numerum suum, dedicato sibi officio servientes. [1]MOREOVER David and the princes of the tribes set aside for the service of the sons of Asaph, Haman and Jeruthun, the sons of Azram his son. These are the Levites according to the families of their fathers. These likewise cast lots over their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king and Zadok and Ahimelech and the chiefs of the fathers of the priests and Levites. The younger and the elder brother were reckoned alike in numbering; and the number of the workmen according to their service was,
[2]De filiis Asaph: Zachur, et Joseph, et Nathania, et Asarela, filii Asaph: sub manu Asaph prophetantis juxta regem. [2]Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccuri, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Israel. And the sons of Asaph whom the king placed under the direction of Jeruthun as singers.
[3]Porro Idithun: filii Idithun, Godolias, Sori, Jeseias, et Hasabias, et Mathathias, sex, sub manu patris sui Idithun, qui in cithara prophetabat super confitentes et laudantes Dominum. [3]Of the sons of Jeruthun: Azariah, Isaiah, Hashabiah, Mattithiah, and Jeruthun, six, under the direction of their father Jeruthun, who sang with harps and gave thanks to the LORD.
[4]Heman quoque: filii Heman, Bocciau, Mathaniau, Oziel, Subuel, et Jerimoth, Hananias, Hanani, Eliatha, Geddelthi, et Romemthiezer, et Jesbacassa, Mellothi, Othir, Mahazioth: [4]Of Heman: the sons of Heman, Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.
[5]omnes isti filii Heman videntis regis in sermonibus Dei, ut exaltaret cornu: deditque Deus Heman filios quatuordecim, et filias tres. [5]All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
[6]Universi sub manu patris sui ad cantandum in templo Domini distributi erant, in cymbalis, et psalteriis, et citharis, in ministeria domus Domini juxta regem: Asaph videlicet, et Idithun, et Heman. [6]All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeruthun, and Heman.
[7]Fuit autem numerus eorum cum fratribus suis, qui erudiebant canticum Domini, cuncti doctores, ducenti octoginta octo. [7]So the number of them, with their brethren who were instructed in the songs of the LORD, was two hundred and eighty-eight
[8]Miseruntque sortes per vices suas, ex æquo tam major quam minor, doctus pariter et indoctus. [8]And they cast lots for their courses, as well the younger as the elder, the pupil as the teacher.
[9]Egressaque est sors prima Joseph, qui erat de Asaph. Secunda Godoliæ, ipsi et filii ejus, et fratribus ejus duodecim. [9]Now the first lot fell for Asaph to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and his sons were twelve:
[10]Tertia Zachur, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [10]The third to Zori, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[11]Quarta Isari, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [11]The fourth to Nazri, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[12]Quinta Nathaniæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [12]The fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[13]Sexta Bocciau, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [13]The sixth to Bukkiah, he his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[14]Septima Isreela, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [14]The seventh to Lasrael, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[15]Octava Jesaiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [15]The eighth to Isaiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[16]Nona Mathaniæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [16]The ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[17]Decima Semeiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [17]The tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[18]Undecima Azareel, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [18]The eleventh to Azaiel, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[19]Duodecima Hasabiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [19]The twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[20]Tertiadecima Subaël, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [20]The thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[21]Quartadecima Mathathiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [21]The fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[22]Quintadecima Jerimoth, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [22]The fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[23]Sextadecima Hananiæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [23]The sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[24]Septimadecima Jesbacassæ, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [24]The seventeenth to Elishab, he, his sons and his brethren were twelve:
[25]Octavadecima Hanani, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [25]The eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve:
[26]Nonadecima Mellothi, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [26]The nineteenth to Malloth, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[27]Vigesima Eliatha, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [27]The twentieth to Eliab, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[28]Vigesima prima Othir, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [28]The twenty-first to Jattir, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[29]Vigesima secunda Geddelthi, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [29]The twenty-second to Rabbi, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
[30]Vigesima tertia Mahazioth, filiis et fratribus ejus duodecim. [30]The twenty-third to Mahazioth, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve;
