| [1]אתדמו בי איכנא דאפ אנא במשׁיחא |
[1]Be ye imitators of me, as I am of the Messiah. |
| [2]משׁבח אנא לכונ דינ אחי דבכל מדמ מעהד אנתונ לי ואיכנא דאשׁלמת לכונ פוקדנא אחידינ אנתונ |
[2]Moreover I commend you, my Brethren, that in all things ye are mindful of me, and that ye hold fast the precepts as I delivered them to you. |
| [3]צבא אנא דינ דתדעונ דכל גבר רשׁה משׁיחא הו ורשׁה דאנתתא גברא הו ורשׁה דמשׁיחא אלהא הו |
[3]And I would have you know, that the head of every man is the Messiah, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of the Messiah is God. |
| [4]כל גברא דמצלא או מתנבא כד מכסי רשׁה מבהת רשׁה |
[4]Every man, who prayeth or prophesieth with his head covered, dishonoreth his head. |
| [5]וכל אנתתא דמצליא או מתנביא כד גלא רשׁה מבהתא רשׁה שׁויא הי גיר עמ הי דגריע רשׁה |
[5]And every woman, who prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered, dishonoreth her head; for she is on a level with her whose head is shaven. |
| [6]אנ גיר לא מתכסיא אנתתא אפ תסתפר אנ דינ משׁכר הו לאנתתא למסתפרו או למגרע תתכסא |
[6]For if a woman be not covered, let her also be shorn; but if it be shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. |
| [7]גברא גיר לא חיב דנכסא רשׁה מטל דדמותא הו ותשׁבוחתא דאלהא אנתתא דינ תשׁבוחתא הי דגברא |
[7]The man, indeed, ought not to cover his head, because he is the likeness and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. |
| [8]לא גיר איתוהי גברא מנ אנתתא אלא אנתתא מנ גברא |
[8]For the man was not from the woman, but the woman from the man. |
| [9]ואפלא גיר גברא אתברי מטל אנתתא אלא אנתתא מטל גברא |
[9]Neither was the man created for the woman's sake, but the woman for the man's sake. |
| [10]מטל הנא חיבא אנתתא דשׁולטנא נהוא על רשׁה מטל מלאכא |
[10]For this cause ought the woman to have on her head [the mark of] authority, because of the angels. |
| [11]ברמ דינ לא גברא לבר מנ אנתתא אפלא אנתתא לבר מנ גברא במרנ |
[11]Nevertheless, the man is not without the woman, nor the woman without the man, in our Lord. |
| [12]איכנא גיר דאנתתא מנ גברא הכנא אפ גברא ביד אנתתא כלמדמ דינ מנ אלהא הו |
[12]For as the woman [was] from the man, so the man is by the woman; and every thing is from God. |
| [13]דונו ביניכונ לנפשׁכונ יאא לאנתתא דכד גלא רשׁה תצלא לאלהא |
[13]Judge for yourselves, among yourselves; is it becoming, that a woman pray to God with her head uncovered? |
| [14]אפלא הו כינא מלפ לכונ דגברא מא דקאמ סערה צערא הו לה |
[14]Doth not nature teach you, that in a man, if his hair groweth long, it is a reproach to him? |
| [15]ואנתתא מא דמרבי סערה תשׁבוחתא הי לה מטל דסערה חלפ תכסיתא הו אתיהב לה |
[15]But for a woman, if her hair is abundant, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. |
| [16]אנ אנשׁ דינ מתחרא על הלינ לנ לית עידא איכ הנא ולא לעדתה דאלהא |
[16]But if any one is contentious about these things, we on our part have no such custom, nor hath the church of God. |
| [17]הדא דינ דמפקד אנא לא איכ משׁבח אנא לכונ מטל דלא הוא לקדמיכונ אתיתונ אלא לבצירותא הו נחתתונ |
[17]This which I now enjoin, is not as praising you; for ye have not made progress, but have deteriorated. |
| [18]לוקדמ גיר מא דמתכנשׁינ אנתונ בעדתא פלגותא שׁמע אנא דאית בינתכונ ומדמ מדמ מהימנ אנא |
[18]Because, first; when ye assemble in the church, there are, I hear, divisions among you; and I partly believe it. |
| [19]עתידינ אנונ גיר אפ חרינא דנהוונ בינתכונ דאילינ דבקינ בכונ נתידעונ |
[19]For there are to be contentions among you, that the approved among you may be known. |
| [20]מא הכיל דמתכנשׁינ אנתונ לו איכ דזדק ליומה דמרנ אכלינ אנתונ ושׁתינ |
[20]When therefore ye come together, ye eat and drink, not as is becoming on the day of our Lord. |
| [21]אלא אנשׁ אנשׁ חשׁמיתה קדמ אכל לה והוא חד כפנ וחד רוא |
[21]But, one and another proceedeth to eat his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunken. |
| [22]דלמא בתא לית לכונ דתאכלונ ותשׁתונ או בעדתה דאלהא בסינ אנתונ ומבהתינ אנתונ לאילינ דלית להונ מנא אמר לכונ אשׁבחכונ בהדא לא משׁבח אנא |
[22]What! have ye no houses in which ye can eat and drink? Or, despise ye the church of God, and shame them who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I praise you not. |
| [23]אנא גיר קבלת מנ מרנ הו מדמ דאשׁלמת לכונ דמרנ ישׁוע בהו לליא דמשׁתלמ הוא נסב הוא לחמא |
[23]For I have received from our Lord, that which I imparted to you; that our Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, |
| [24]וברכ וקצא ואמר סבו אכולו הנו פגרי דעל אפיכונ מתקצא הכנא הויתונ עבדינ לדוכרני |
[24]and blessed, and brake [it], and said: " Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for your sakes: thus do ye, in remembrance of me." |
| [25]הכנא מנ בתר דאחשׁמו אפ כסא יהב ואמר הנא כסא איתוהי דיתקא חדתא בדמי הכנא הויתונ עבדינ כל אמתי דשׁתינ אנתונ לדוכרני |
[25]So, after they had supped, he gave also the cup, and said: " This cup is the new testament in my blood: thus do ye, as often as ye drink [it], in remembrance of me." |
| [26]כל אמתי גיר דאכלינ אנתונ לחמא הנא ושׁתינ אנתונ כסא הנא מותה הו דמרנ מעהדינ אנתונ עדמא למאתיתה |
[26]For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye commemorate the death of our Lord, until his advent. |
| [27]אינא הכיל דאכל מנ לחמה דמריא ושׁתא מנ כסה ולא שׁוא לה מחיב הו לדמה דמריא ולפגרה |
[27]He therefore, who eateth of the bread of the Lord, and drinketh of his cup, and is not worthy of it, is guilty of the blood of the Lord, and of his body. |
| [28]מטל הנא נהוא אנשׁ בקא נפשׁה והידינ אכל מנ לחמא הנא ושׁתא מנ כסא הנא |
[28]For this reason, a man should examine himself, and then eat of this bread, and drink of this cup: |
| [29]מנ דאכל גיר ושׁתא מנה כד לא שׁוא חויבא הו לנפשׁה אכל ושׁתא דלא פרשׁ פגרה דמריא |
[29]for, whoever eateth and drinketh of it, while he is unworthy, eateth and drinketh condemnation on himself, by not discerning the body of the Lord. |
| [30]מטל הנא סגיאינ בכונ מרעא וכריהא וסגיאא דדמכינ |
[30]For this cause, many among you are diseased and sickly, and many sleep. |
| [31]אלו גיר נפשׁנ דינינ הוינ לא מתדינינ הוינ |
[31]For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. |
| [32]כד מתדיניננ דינ מנ מרנ מתרדיו מתרדיננ דלא עמ עלמא נתחיב |
[32]But when we are judged by our Lord, we are really chastised, that we may not be condemned with the world. |
| [33]מכיל אחי אמתי דמתכנשׁינ אנתונ למאכל הויתונ מקוינ חד לחד |
[33]Wherefore, my Brethren, when ye assemble to eat, wait ye one for another. |
| [34]מנ דינ דכפנ בביתה נלעס דלא לחיבותא תהוונ מתכנשׁינ על שׁרכא דינ מא דאתית אפקדכונ |
[34]And let him who is hungry, eat at home; that ye may assemble, not for condemnation. And as to other things, I will give you directions when I come. |
