[1]And Ben-hadad the king of Aram gathered all his host together; and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it. |

[2]And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, |
[3]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *ναβουθαιN--NSM πρόςP *αχααβN--ASM μήD ἐγώRP-DS γίγνομαιVB-AMO3S παράP θεόςN2-GSM ἐγώRP-GS δίδωμιVO-AAN κληρονομίαN1A-ASF πατήρN3-GPM ἐγώRP-GS σύRP-DS |
[3]And said unto him: 'Thus saith Ben-hadad: Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, even the goodliest, are mine.' |
[4]καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ὁRA-NSN πνεῦμαN3M-NSN *αχααβN--GSM τεράσσωVK-XMPNSN καίC κοιμάωVCI-API3S ἐπίP ὁRA-GSF κλίνηN1-GSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC συνκαλύπτωVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-ASN πρώσωπονN2N-ASN αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC οὐD ἐσθίωVBI-AAI3S ἄρτοςN2-ASM |
[4]And the king of Israel answered and said: 'It is according to thy saying, my lord, O king: I am thine, and all that I have.' |
[5]καίC εἰςἔρχομαιVBI-AAI3S *ιεζαβελN--NSF ὁRA-NSF γυνήN3K-NSF αὐτόςRD-GSM πρόςP αὐτόςRD-ASM καίC λαλέωVAI-AAI3S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-ASM τίςRI-ASN ὁRA-NSN πνεῦμαN3M-NSN σύRP-GS τεράσσωVK-XMPNSN καίC οὐD εἰμίV9-PAI2S σύRP-NS ἐσθίωV1-PAPNSM ἄρτοςN2-ASM |
[5]And the messengers came again, and said: 'Thus speaketh Ben-hadad, saying: I sent indeed unto thee, saying: Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children; |
[6]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-ASF ὅτιC λαλέωVAI-AAI1S πρόςP *ναβουθαιN--ASM ὁRA-ASM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-ASM λέγωV1-PAPNSM δίδωμιVO-AAD2S ἐγώRP-DS ὁRA-ASM ἀμπελώνN3W-ASM σύRP-GS ἀργύριονN2N-GSN εἰC δέX βούλομαιV1-PMI2S δίδωμιVF-FAI1S σύRP-DS ἀμπελώνN3W-ASM ἄλλοςRD-ASM ἀντίP αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S οὐD δίδωμιVF-FAI1S σύRP-DS κληρονομίαN1A-ASF πατήρN3-GPM ἐγώRP-GS |
[6]But I will send my servants unto thee tomorrow about this time, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.' |
[7]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-ASM *ιεζαβελN--NSF ὁRA-NSF γυνήN3K-NSF αὐτόςRD-GSM σύRP-NS νῦνD οὕτωςD ποιέωV2-PAI2S βασιλεύςN3V-ASM ἐπίP *ἰσραήλN--ASM ἀναἵστημιVH-AAD2S ἐσθίωVB-AAD2S ἄρτοςN2-ASM καίC σεαυτοῦRD-GSM γίγνομαιVB-AMD2S ἐγώRP-NS δίδωμιVF-FAI1S σύRP-DS ὁRA-ASM ἀμπελώνN3W-ASM *ναβουθαιN--GSM ὁRA-GSM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-GSM |
[7]Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said: 'Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischief; for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.' |
[8]καίC γράφωVAI-AAI3S βιβλίονN2N-ASN ἐπίP ὁRA-DSN ὄνομαN3M-DSN *αχααβN--GSM καίC σφραγίζωVAI-AMI3S ὁRA-DSF σφραγίςN3D-DSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC ἀποστέλλωVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-ASN βιβλίονN2N-ASN πρόςP ὁRA-APM πρεσβύτεροςN2-APM καίC ὁRA-APM ἐλεύθεροςA1A-APM ὁRA-APM καταοἰκέωV2-PAPAPM μετάP *ναβουθαιN--GSM |
[8]And all the elders and all the people said unto him: 'Hearken thou not, neither consent.' |
[9]καίC γράφωVPI-YMI3S ἐνP ὁRA-DPM βιβλίονN2N-DPN λέγωV1-PAPNSM νηστεύωVA-AAD2P νηστείαN1A-ASF καίC καταἵζωVA-AAD2P ὁRA-ASM *ναβουθαιN--ASM ἐνP ἀρχήN1-DSF ὁRA-GSM λαόςN2-GSM |
[9]Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Ben-hadad: 'Tell my lord the king: All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do; but this thing I may not do.' And the messengers departed, and brought him back word. |
[10]καίC ἐν καταἵζωVA-AAD2P δύοM ἀνήρN3-APM υἱόςN2-APM παράνομοςA1B-GPM ἐκP ἐναντίοςA1A-GSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC καταμαρτυρέωVA-AAD3P αὐτόςRD-GSM λέγωV1-PAPNPM εὐλογέωVAI-AAI3S θεόςN2-ASM καίC βασιλεύςN3V-ASM καίC ἐκἄγωVB-AAD3P αὐτόςRD-ASM καίC λιθοβολέωVA-AAD3P αὐτόςRD-ASM καίC ἀποθνήσκωVB-AAD3S |
[10]And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said: 'The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.' |
[11]καίC ποιέωVAI-AAI3P ὁRA-NPM ἀνήρN3-NPM ὁRA-GSF πόλιςN3I-GSF αὐτόςRD-GSM ὁRA-NPM πρεσβύτεροςN2-NPM καίC ὁRA-NPM ἐλεύθεροςA1A-NPM ὁRA-NPM καταοἰκέωV2-PAPNPM ἐνP ὁRA-DSF πόλιςN3I-DSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καθάD ἀποστέλλωVAI-AAI3S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-APM *ιεζαβελN--NSF καθάD γράφωVP-XMI3S ἐνP ὁRA-DPN βιβλίονN2N-DPN ὅςRR-DPM ἀποστέλλωVAI-AAI3S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-APM |
[11]And the king of Israel answered and said: 'Tell him: Let not him that girdeth on his armour boast himself as he that putteth it off.' |
[12]καλέωVAI-AAI3P νηστείαN1A-ASF καίC καταἵζωVAI-AAI3P ὁRA-ASM *ναβουθαιN--ASM ἐνP ἀρχήN1-DSF ὁRA-GSM λαόςN2-GSM |
[12]And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the booths, that he said unto his servants: 'Set yourselves in array.' And they set themselves in array against the city. |
[13]καίC ἔρχομαιVBI-AAI3P δύοM ἀνήρN3-NPM υἱόςN2-NPM παράνομοςA1B-GPM καίC καταἵζωVAI-AAI3P ἐκP ἐναντίοςA1A-GSF αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC καταμαρτυρέωVAI-AAI3P αὐτόςRD-GSM λέγωV1-PAPNPM εὐλογέωVXI-YAI2S θεόςN2-ASM καίC βασιλεύςN3V-ASM καίC ἐκἄγωVBI-AAI3P αὐτόςRD-ASM ἔξωD ὁRA-GSF πόλιςN3I-GSF καίC λιθοβολέωVAI-AAI3P αὐτόςRD-ASM λίθοςN2-DPM καίC ἀποθνήσκωVBI-AAI3S |
[13]And, behold, a prophet came near unto Ahab king of Israel, and said: 'Thus saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇.' |
[14]καίC ἀποστέλλωVAI-AAI3P πρόςP *ιεζαβελN--ASF λέγωV1-PAPNPM λιθοβολέωVX-XPI3S *ναβουθαιN--NSM καίC θνήσκωVX-XAI3S |
[14]And Ahab said: 'By whom?' And he said: 'Thus saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇: By the young men of the princes of the provinces.' Then he said: 'Who shall begin the battle?' And he answered: 'Thou.' |
[15]καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ὡςC ἀκούωVAI-AAI3S *ιεζαβελN--NSF καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S πρόςP *αχααβN--ASM ἀναἵστημιVH-AAD2S κληρονομέωV2-PAD2S ὁRA-ASM ἀμπελώνN3W-ASM *ναβουθαιN--GSM ὁRA-GSM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-GSM ὅςRR-NSM οὐD δίδωμιVAI-AAI3S σύRP-DS ἀργύριονN2N-GSN ὅτιC οὐD εἰμίV9-PAI3S *ναβουθαιN--NSM ζάωV3-PAPNSM ὅτιC θνήσκωVX-XAI3S |
[15]Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand. |
[16]καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ὡςC ἀκούωVAI-AAI3S *αχααβN--NSM ὅτιC θνήσκωVX-XAI3S *ναβουθαιN--NSM ὁRA-NSM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-NSM καίC διαῥήγνυμιVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-APN ἱμάτιονN2N-APN ἑαυτοῦRD-GSM καίC περιβάλλωVBI-AMI3S σάκκοςN2-ASM καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S μετάP οὗτοςRD-APN καίC ἀναἵστημιVHI-AAI3S καίC καταβαίνωVZI-AAI3S *αχααβN--NSM εἰςP ὁRA-ASM ἀμπελώνN3W-ASM *ναβουθαιN--GSM ὁRA-GSM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-GSM κληρονομέωVA-AAN αὐτόςRD-ASM |
[16]And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him. |
[17]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM πρόςP *ηλιουN--ASM ὁRA-ASM *θεσβίτηςN1M-ASM λέγωV1-PAPNSM |
[17]And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying: 'There are men come out from Samaria.' |
[18]ἀναἵστημιVH-AAD2S καίC καταβαίνωVZ-AAD2S εἰςP ἀπαντήN1-ASF *αχααβN--GSM βασιλεύςN3V-GSM *ἰσραήλN--GSM ὁRA-GSM ἐνP *σαμαρείαN1A-DSF ἰδούI οὗτοςRD-NSM ἐνP ἀμπελώνN3W-DSM *ναβουθαιN--GSM ὅτιC καταβαίνωVX-XAI3S ἐκεῖD κληρονομέωVA-AAN αὐτόςRD-ASM |
[18]And he said: 'Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they are come out for war, take them alive.' |
[19]καίC λαλέωVF-FAI2S πρόςP αὐτόςRD-ASM λέγωV1-PAPNSM ὅδεRD-APN λέγωV1-PAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM ὡςC σύRP-NS φονεύωVAI-AAI2S καίC κληρονομέωVAI-AAI2S διάP οὗτοςRD-ASN ὅδεRD-APN λέγωV1-PAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM ἐνP πᾶςA3-DSM τόποςN2-DSM ὅςRR-DSM λείχωVAI-AAI3P ὁRA-NPF ὗςN3-NPF καίC ὁRA-NPM κύωνN3-NPM ὁRA-ASN αἷμαN3M-ASN *ναβουθαιN--GSM ἐκεῖD λείχωVF-FAI3P ὁRA-NPM κύωνN3-NPM ὁRA-ASN αἷμαN3M-ASN σύRP-GS καίC ὁRA-NPF πόρνηN1-NPF λούωVF-FMI3P ἐνP ὁRA-DSN αἷμαN3M-DSN σύRP-GS |
[19]So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them. |
[20]καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S *αχααβN--NSM πρόςP *ηλιουN--ASM εἰC εὑρίσκωVX-XAI2S ἐγώRP-AS ὁRA-NSM ἐχθρόςN2-NSM ἐγώRP-GS καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S εὑρίσκωVX-XAI1S διότιC μάτηνD πιπράσκωVX-XAN ποιέωVA-AAN ὁRA-ASN πονηρόςA1A-ASN ἐνώπιονP κύριοςN2-GSM παραὀργίζωVA-AAN αὐτόςRD-ASM |
[20]And they slew every one his man; and the Arameans fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen. |
[21]ὅδεRD-APN λέγωV1-PAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM ἰδούI ἐγώRP-NS ἐπιἄγωV1-PAI1S ἐπίP σύRP-AS κακόςA1-APN καίC ἐκκαίωVA-AAS1S ὀπίσωP σύRP-GS καίC ἐκὀλεθρεύωVA-AAS1S ὁRA-GSM *αχααβN--GSM οὐρέωV2-PAPASM πρόςP τοῖχοςN2-ASM καίC συνἔχωV1-PMPASM καίC ἐν καταλείπωVP-XMPASM ἐνP *ἰσραήλN--DSM |
[21]And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Arameans with a great slaughter. |
[22]καίC δίδωμιVF-FAI1S ὁRA-ASM οἶκοςN2-ASM σύRP-GS ὡςC ὁRA-ASM οἶκοςN2-ASM *ιεροβοαμN--GSM υἱόςN2-GSM *ναβατN--GSM καίC ὡςC ὁRA-ASM οἶκοςN2-ASM *βαασαN--GSM υἱόςN2-GSM *αχιαN--GSM περίP ὁRA-GPM παρόργισμαN3M-GPM ὅςRR-GPM παραὀργίζωVAI-AAI2S καίC ἐκἁμαρτάνωVBI-AAI2S ὁRA-ASM *ἰσραήλN--ASM |
[22]And the prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said unto him: 'Go, strengthen thyself, and mark, and see what thou doest; for at the return of the year the king of Aram will come up against thee.' |
[23]καίC ὁRA-DSF *ιεζαβελN--DSF λαλέωVAI-AAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM λέγωV1-PAPNSM ὁRA-NPM κύωνN3-NPM καταἐσθίωVF-FMI3P αὐτόςRD-ASF ἐνP ὁRA-DSN προτείχισμαN3M-DSN *ιεζραελN--GSF |
[23]And the servants of the king of Aram said unto him: 'Their God is a God of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. |
[24]ὁRA-ASM θνήσκωVX-XAPASM ὁRA-GSM *αχααβN--GSM ἐνP ὁRA-DSF πόλιςN3I-DSF ἐσθίωVF-FMI3P ὁRA-NPM κύωνN3-NPM καίC ὁRA-ASM θνήσκωVX-XAPASM αὐτόςRD-GSM ἐνP ὁRA-DSN πεδίονN2N-DSN ἐσθίωVF-FMI3P ὁRA-NPN πετεινόνN2N-NPN ὁRA-GSM οὐρανόςN2-GSM |
[24]And do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put governors in their room: |
[25]πλήνD ματαίωςD *αχααβN--NSM ὡςC πιπράσκωVCI-API3S ποιέωVA-AAN ὁRA-ASN πονηρόςA1A-ASN ἐνώπιονP κύριοςN2-GSM ὡςC μετατίθημιVAI-AAI3S αὐτόςRD-ASM *ιεζαβελN--NSF ὁRA-NSF γυνήN3K-NSF αὐτόςRD-GSM |
[25]And number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.' And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so. |
[26]καίC βδελύσσωVQI-API3S σφόδραD πορεύομαιV1-PMN ὀπίσωP ὁRA-GPN βδέλυγμαN3M-GPN κατάP πᾶςA3-APN ὅςRR-APN ποιέωVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-NSM *ἀμορραῖοςN2-NSM ὅςRR-ASM ἐκὀλεθρεύωVAI-AAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM ἀπόP πρόσωπονN2N-GSN υἱόςN2-GPM *ἰσραήλN--GSM |
[26]And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered the Arameans, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel. |
[27]καίC ὑπέρP ὁRA-GSM λόγοςN2-GSM ὡςC κατανύσσωVQI-API3S *αχααβN--NSM ἀπόP πρόσωπονN2N-GSN ὁRA-GSM κύριοςN2-GSM καίC πορεύομαιV1I-IMI3S κλαίωV1-PAPNSM καίC διαῥήγνυμιVAI-AAI3S ὁRA-ASM χιτώνN3W-ASM αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC ζώννυμιVAI-AMI3S σάκκοςN2-ASM ἐπίP ὁRA-ASN σῶμαN3M-ASN αὐτόςRD-GSM καίC νηστεύωVAI-AAI3S καίC περιβάλλωVBI-AMI3S σάκκοςN2-ASM ἐνP ὁRA-DSF ἡμέραN1A-DSF ὅςRR-DSF πατάσσωVAI-AAI3S *ναβουθαιN--ASM ὁRA-ASM *ιεζραηλίτηςN1M-ASM |
[27]And the children of Israel were mustered, and were victualled, and went against them; and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Arameans filled the country. |
[28]καίC γίγνομαιVBI-AMI3S ῥῆμαN3M-NSN κύριοςN2-GSM ἐνP χείρN3-DSF δοῦλοςN2-GSM αὐτόςRD-GSM *ηλιουN--GSM περίP *αχααβN--GSM καίC εἶπονVBI-AAI3S κύριοςN2-NSM |
[28]And a man of God came near and spoke unto the king of Israel, and said: 'Thus saith 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇: Because the Arameans have said: 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇 is a God of the hills, but he is not a God of the valleys; therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇.' |
[29]ὁράωVX-XAI2S ὡςC κατανύσσωVQI-API3S *αχααβN--NSM ἀπόP πρόσωπονN2N-GSN ἐγώRP-GS οὐD ἐπιἄγωVF-FAI1S ὁRA-ASF κακίαN1A-ASF ἐνP ὁRA-DPF ἡμέραN1A-DPF αὐτόςRD-GSM ἀλλάC ἐνP ὁRA-DPF ἡμέραN1A-DPF ὁRA-GSM υἱόςN2-GSM αὐτόςRD-GSM ἐπιἄγωVF-FAI1S ὁRA-ASF κακίαN1A-ASF |
[29]And they encamped one over against the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel slew of the Arameans hundred thousand footmen in one day. |

[30]But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber. |

[31]And his servants said unto him: 'Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings; let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; peradventure he will save thy life.' |

[32]So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said: 'Thy servant Ben-hadad saith: I pray thee, let me live.' And he said: 'Is he yet alive? he is my brother.' |

[33]Now the men took it for a sign, and hastened to catch it from him; and they said: 'Thy brother Ben-hadad.' Then he said: 'Go ye, bring him.' Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into his chariot. |

[34]And Ben-hadad said unto him: 'The cities which my father took from thy father I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria.' 'And I ,said Ahab, will let thee go with this covenant.' So he made a covenant with him, and let him go. |

[35]And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his fellow by the word of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇: 'Smite me, I pray thee.' And the man refused to smite him. |

[36]Then said he unto him: 'Because thou hast not heartened to the voice of 𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇, behold, as soon as thou art departed from me, a lion shall slay thee.' And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him; and slew him. |

[37]Then he found another man, and said: 'Smite me, I pray thee.' And the man smote him, smiting and wounding him. |
38[No verse] |
[38]So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes. |
39[No verse] |
[39]And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king; and he said: 'Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said: Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. |

[40]And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone.' And the king of Israel said unto him: 'So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it.' |
