| [1]וַיִּתְחַתֵּ֣ן שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה אֶת־פַּרְעֹ֖ה מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרָ֑יִם וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־בַּת־פַּרְעֹ֗ה וַיְבִיאֶ֙הָ֙ אֶל־עִ֣יר דָּוִ֔ד עַ֣ד כַּלֹּתֹ֗ו לִבְנֹ֤ות אֶת־בֵּיתֹו֙ וְאֶת־בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וְאֶת־חֹומַ֥ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם סָבִֽיב׃ |
[1]And SolomonH8010 made affinityH2859[H8691] with PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714, and tookH3947[H8799] Pharaoh'sH6547 daughterH1323, and broughtH935[H8686] her into the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, until he had made an endH3615[H8763] of buildingH1129[H8800] his own houseH1004, and the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and the wallH2346 of JerusalemH3389 round aboutH5439. |
| [2]רַ֣ק הָעָ֔ם מְזַבְּחִ֖ים בַּבָּמֹ֑ות כִּ֠י לֹא־נִבְנָ֥ה בַ֙יִת֙ לְשֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיָּמִ֥ים הָהֵֽם׃ |
[2]Only the peopleH5971 sacrificedH2076[H8764] in high placesH1116, because there was no houseH1004 builtH1129[H8738] unto the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, until those daysH3117. |
| [3]וַיֶּאֱהַ֤ב שְׁלֹמֹה֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֔ה לָלֶ֕כֶת בְּחֻקֹּ֖ות דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו רַ֚ק בַּבָּמֹ֔ות ה֥וּא מְזַבֵּ֖חַ וּמַקְטִֽיר׃ |
[3]And SolomonH8010 lovedH157[H8799] the LORDH3068, walkingH3212[H8800] in the statutesH2708 of DavidH1732 his fatherH1: only he sacrificedH2076[H8764] and burnt incenseH6999[H8688] in high placesH1116. |
| [4]וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ גִּבְעֹ֙נָה֙ לִזְבֹּ֣חַ שָׁ֔ם כִּ֥י הִ֖יא הַבָּמָ֣ה הַגְּדֹולָ֑ה אֶ֤לֶף עֹלֹות֙ יַעֲלֶ֣ה שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה עַ֖ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֥חַ הַהֽוּא׃ |
[4]And the kingH4428 wentH3212[H8799] to GibeonH1391 to sacrificeH2076[H8800] there; for thatH1931 was the greatH1419 high placeH1116: a thousandH505 burnt offeringsH5930 did SolomonH8010 offerH5927[H8686] upon that altarH4196. |
| [5]בְּגִבְעֹ֗ון נִרְאָ֧ה יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה בַּחֲלֹ֣ום הַלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֔ים שְׁאַ֖ל מָ֥ה אֶתֶּן־לָֽךְ׃ |
[5]In GibeonH1391 the LORDH3068 appearedH7200[H8738] to SolomonH8010 in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915: and GodH430 saidH559[H8799], AskH7592[H8798] what I shall giveH5414 theeH8799. |
| [6]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה אַתָּ֨ה עָשִׂ֜יתָ עִם־עַבְדְּךָ֙ דָוִ֣ד אָבִי֮ חֶ֣סֶד גָּדֹול֒ כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ הָלַ֨ךְ לְפָנֶ֜יךָ בֶּאֱמֶ֧ת וּבִצְדָקָ֛ה וּבְיִשְׁרַ֥ת לֵבָ֖ב עִמָּ֑ךְ וַתִּשְׁמָר־לֹ֗ו אֶת־הַחֶ֤סֶד הַגָּדֹול֙ הַזֶּ֔ה וַתִּתֶּן־לֹ֥ו בֵ֛ן יֹשֵׁ֥ב עַל־כִּסְאֹ֖ו כַּיֹּ֥ום הַזֶּֽה׃ |
[6]And SolomonH8010 saidH559[H8799], Thou hast shewedH6213[H8804] unto thy servantH5650 DavidH1732 my fatherH1 greatH1419 mercyH2617, according as he walkedH1980[H8804] beforeH6440 thee in truthH571, and in righteousnessH6666, and in uprightnessH3483 of heartH3824 with thee; and thou hast keptH8104[H8799] for him this greatH1419 kindnessH2617, that thou hast givenH5414[H8799] him a sonH1121 to sitH3427[H8802] on his throneH3678, as it is this dayH3117. |
| [7]וְעַתָּה֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔י אַתָּה֙ הִמְלַ֣כְתָּ אֶֽת־עַבְדְּךָ֔ תַּ֖חַת דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑י וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ נַ֣עַר קָטֹ֔ן לֹ֥א אֵדַ֖ע צֵ֥את וָבֹֽא׃ |
[7]And now, O LORDH3068 my GodH430, thou hast made thy servantH5650 kingH4427[H8689] instead of DavidH1732 my fatherH1: and I am but a littleH6996 childH5288: I knowH3045[H8799] not how to go outH3318[H8800] or come inH935.[H8800] |
| [8]וְעַ֨בְדְּךָ֔ בְּתֹ֥וךְ עַמְּךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחָ֑רְתָּ עַם־רָ֕ב אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יִמָּנֶ֛ה וְלֹ֥א יִסָּפֵ֖ר מֵרֹֽב׃ |
[8]And thy servantH5650 is in the midstH8432 of thy peopleH5971 which thou hast chosenH977[H8804], a greatH7227 peopleH5971, that cannot be numberedH4487[H8735] nor countedH5608[H8735] for multitudeH7230. |
| [9]וְנָתַתָּ֨ לְעַבְדְּךָ֜ לֵ֤ב שֹׁמֵ֙עַ֙ לִשְׁפֹּ֣ט אֶֽת־עַמְּךָ֔ לְהָבִ֖ין בֵּֽין־טֹ֣וב לְרָ֑ע כִּ֣י מִ֤י יוּכַל֙ לִשְׁפֹּ֔ט אֶת־עַמְּךָ֥ הַכָּבֵ֖ד הַזֶּֽה׃ |
[9]GiveH5414[H8804] therefore thy servantH5650 an understandingH8085[H8802] heartH3820 to judgeH8199[H8800] thy peopleH5971, that I may discernH995[H8687] between goodH2896 and badH7451: for who is ableH3201[H8799] to judgeH8199[H8800] this thy so greatH3515 a peopleH5971? |
| [10]וַיִּיטַ֥ב הַדָּבָ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י אֲדֹנָ֑י כִּ֚י שָׁאַ֣ל שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּֽה׃ |
[10]And the speechH1697 pleasedH3190[H8799][H5869] the LordH136, that SolomonH8010 had askedH7592[H8804] this thingH1697. |
| [11]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֜ים אֵלָ֗יו יַעַן֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר שָׁאַ֜לְתָּ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֗ה וְלֹֽא־שָׁאַ֨לְתָּ לְּךָ֜ יָמִ֣ים רַבִּ֗ים וְלֹֽא־שָׁאַ֤לְתָּ לְּךָ֙ עֹ֔שֶׁר וְלֹ֥א שָׁאַ֖לְתָּ נֶ֣פֶשׁ אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ וְשָׁאַ֧לְתָּ לְּךָ֛ הָבִ֖ין לִשְׁמֹ֥עַ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ |
[11]And GodH430 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Because thou hast askedH7592[H8804] this thingH1697, and hast not askedH7592[H8804] for thyself longH7227 lifeH3117; neither hast askedH7592[H8804] richesH6239 for thyself, nor hast askedH7592[H8804] the lifeH5315 of thine enemiesH341[H8802]; but hast askedH7592[H8804] for thyself understandingH995[H8687] to discernH8085[H8800] judgmentH4941; |
| [12]הִנֵּ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתִי כִּדְבָרֶ֑יךָ הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ נָתַ֣תִּי לְךָ֗ לֵ֚ב חָכָ֣ם וְנָבֹ֔ון אֲשֶׁ֤ר כָּמֹ֙וךָ֙ לֹא־הָיָ֣ה לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְאַחֲרֶ֖יךָ לֹא־יָק֥וּם כָּמֹֽוךָ׃ |
[12]Behold, I have doneH6213[H8804] according to thy wordsH1697: lo, I have givenH5414[H8804] thee a wiseH2450 and an understandingH995[H8737] heartH3820; so that there was none like thee beforeH6440 thee, neither afterH310 thee shall any ariseH6965 like unto theeH8799. |
| [13]וְגַ֨ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־שָׁאַ֙לְתָּ֙ נָתַ֣תִּי לָ֔ךְ גַּם־עֹ֖שֶׁר גַּם־כָּבֹ֑וד אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹא־הָיָ֨ה כָמֹ֥וךָ אִ֛ישׁ בַּמְּלָכִ֖ים כָּל־יָמֶֽיךָ׃ |
[13]And I have also givenH5414[H8804] thee that which thou hast not askedH7592[H8804], both richesH6239, and honourH3519: so that there shall not be anyH376 among the kingsH4428 like unto thee all thy daysH3117. |
| [14]וְאִ֣ם ׀ תֵּלֵ֣ךְ בִּדְרָכַ֗י לִשְׁמֹ֤ר חֻקַּי֙ וּמִצְוֹתַ֔י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָלַ֖ךְ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑יךָ וְהַאַרַכְתִּ֖י אֶת־יָמֶֽיךָ׃ |
[14]And if thou wilt walkH3212[H8799] in my waysH1870, to keepH8104[H8800] my statutesH2706 and my commandmentsH4687, as thy fatherH1 DavidH1732 did walkH1980[H8804], then I will lengthenH748[H8689] thy daysH3117. |
| [15]וַיִּקַ֥ץ שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה וְהִנֵּ֣ה חֲלֹ֑ום וַיָּבֹ֨וא יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֣ד ׀ לִפְנֵ֣י ׀ אֲרֹ֣ון בְּרִית־אֲדֹנָ֗י וַיַּ֤עַל עֹלֹות֙ וַיַּ֣עַשׂ שְׁלָמִ֔ים וַיַּ֥עַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּ֖ה לְכָל־עֲבָדָֽיו׃ |
[15]And SolomonH8010 awokeH3364[H8799]; and, behold, it was a dreamH2472. And he cameH935[H8799] to JerusalemH3389, and stoodH5975[H8799] beforeH6440 the arkH727 of the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068, and offered upH5927[H8686] burnt offeringsH5930, and offeredH6213[H8799] peace offeringsH8002, and madeH6213[H8799] a feastH4960 to all his servantsH5650. |
| [16]אָ֣ז תָּבֹ֗אנָה שְׁתַּ֛יִם נָשִׁ֥ים זֹנֹ֖ות אֶל־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַֽתַּעֲמֹ֖דְנָה לְפָנָֽיו׃ |
[16]Then cameH935[H8799] there twoH8147 womenH802, that were harlotsH2181[H8802], unto the kingH4428, and stoodH5975[H8799] before himH6440. |
| [17]וַתֹּ֜אמֶר הָאִשָּׁ֤ה הָֽאַחַת֙ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י אֲנִי֙ וְהָאִשָּׁ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את יֹשְׁבֹ֖ת בְּבַ֣יִת אֶחָ֑ד וָאֵלֵ֥ד עִמָּ֖הּ בַּבָּֽיִת׃ |
[17]And the oneH259 womanH802 saidH559[H8799], OH994 my lordH113, I and this womanH802 dwellH3427[H8802] in oneH259 houseH1004; and I was delivered of a childH3205[H8799] with her in the houseH1004. |
| [18]וַיְהִ֞י בַּיֹּ֤ום הַשְּׁלִישִׁי֙ לְלִדְתִּ֔י וַתֵּ֖לֶד גַּם־הָאִשָּׁ֣ה הַזֹּ֑את וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ יַחְדָּ֗ו אֵֽין־זָ֤ר אִתָּ֙נוּ֙ בַּבַּ֔יִת זוּלָתִ֥י שְׁתַּֽיִם־אֲנַ֖חְנוּ בַּבָּֽיִת׃ |
[18]And it came to pass the thirdH7992 dayH3117 after that I was deliveredH3205[H8800], that this womanH802 was deliveredH3205[H8799] also: and we were togetherH3162; there was no strangerH2114[H8801] with us in the houseH1004, saveH2108 we twoH8147 in the houseH1004. |
| [19]וַיָּ֛מָת בֶּן־הָאִשָּׁ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את לָ֑יְלָה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁכְבָ֖ה עָלָֽיו׃ |
[19]And this woman'sH802 childH1121 diedH4191[H8799] in the nightH3915; because she overlaidH7901 itH8804. |
| [20]וַתָּקָם֩ בְּתֹ֨וךְ הַלַּ֜יְלָה וַתִּקַּ֧ח אֶת־בְּנִ֣י מֵֽאֶצְלִ֗י וַאֲמָֽתְךָ֙ יְשֵׁנָ֔ה וַתַּשְׁכִּיבֵ֖הוּ בְּחֵיקָ֑הּ וְאֶת־בְּנָ֥הּ הַמֵּ֖ת הִשְׁכִּ֥יבָה בְחֵיקִֽי׃ |
[20]And she aroseH6965[H8799] at midnightH8432[H3915], and tookH3947[H8799] my sonH1121 from besideH681 me, while thine handmaidH519 sleptH3463, and laidH7901[H8686] it in her bosomH2436, and laidH7901[H8689] her deadH4191[H8801] childH1121 in my bosomH2436. |
| [21]וָאָקֻ֥ם בַּבֹּ֛קֶר לְהֵינִ֥יק אֶת־בְּנִ֖י וְהִנֵּה־מֵ֑ת וָאֶתְבֹּונֵ֤ן אֵלָיו֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְהִנֵּ֛ה לֹֽא־הָיָ֥ה בְנִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלָֽדְתִּי׃ |
[21]And when I roseH6965[H8799] in the morningH1242 to give my childH1121 suckH3243[H8687], behold, it was deadH4191[H8804]: but when I had consideredH995[H8709] it in the morningH1242, behold, it was not my sonH1121, which I did bearH3205.[H8804] |
| [22]וַתֹּאמֶר֩ הָאִשָּׁ֨ה הָאַחֶ֜רֶת לֹ֣א כִ֗י בְּנִ֤י הַחַי֙ וּבְנֵ֣ךְ הַמֵּ֔ת וְזֹ֤את אֹמֶ֙רֶת֙ לֹ֣א כִ֔י בְּנֵ֥ךְ הַמֵּ֖ת וּבְנִ֣י הֶחָ֑י וַתְּדַבֵּ֖רְנָה לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ |
[22]And the otherH312 womanH802 saidH559[H8799], Nay; but the livingH2416 is my sonH1121, and the deadH4191[H8801] is thy sonH1121. And this saidH559[H8802], No; but the deadH4191[H8801] is thy sonH1121, and the livingH2416 is my sonH1121. Thus they spakeH1696[H8762] beforeH6440 the kingH4428. |
| [23]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ זֹ֣את אֹמֶ֔רֶת זֶה־בְּנִ֥י הַחַ֖י וּבְנֵ֣ךְ הַמֵּ֑ת וְזֹ֤את אֹמֶ֙רֶת֙ לֹ֣א כִ֔י בְּנֵ֥ךְ הַמֵּ֖ת וּבְנִ֥י הֶחָֽי׃ |
[23]Then saidH559[H8799] the kingH4428, The oneH2063 saithH559[H8802], This is my sonH1121 that livethH2416, and thy sonH1121 is the deadH4191[H8801]: and the otherH2063 saithH559[H8802], Nay; but thy sonH1121 is the deadH4191[H8801], and my sonH1121 is the livingH2416. |
| [24]וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ קְח֣וּ לִי־חָ֑רֶב וַיָּבִ֥אוּ הַחֶ֖רֶב לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ |
[24]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], BringH3947[H8798] me a swordH2719. And they broughtH935[H8686] a swordH2719 beforeH6440 the kingH4428. |
| [25]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ גִּזְר֛וּ אֶת־הַיֶּ֥לֶד הַחַ֖י לִשְׁנָ֑יִם וּתְנ֤וּ אֶֽת־הַחֲצִי֙ לְאַחַ֔ת וְאֶֽת־הַחֲצִ֖י לְאֶחָֽת׃ |
[25]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], DivideH1504[H8798] the livingH2416 childH3206 in twoH8147, and giveH5414[H8798] halfH2677 to the oneH259, and halfH2677 to the otherH259. |
| [26]וַתֹּ֣אמֶר הָאִשָּׁה֩ אֲשֶׁר־בְּנָ֨הּ הַחַ֜י אֶל־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ כִּֽי־נִכְמְר֣וּ רַחֲמֶיהָ֮ עַל־בְּנָהּ֒ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֗י תְּנוּ־לָהּ֙ אֶת־הַיָּל֣וּד הַחַ֔י וְהָמֵ֖ת אַל־תְּמִיתֻ֑הוּ וְזֹ֣את אֹמֶ֗רֶת גַּם־לִ֥י גַם־לָ֛ךְ לֹ֥א יִהְיֶ֖ה גְּזֹֽרוּ׃ |
[26]Then spakeH559[H8799] the womanH802 whose the livingH2416 childH1121 was unto the kingH4428, for her bowelsH7356 yearnedH3648[H8738] upon her sonH1121, and she saidH559[H8799], OH994 my lordH113, giveH5414[H8798] her the livingH2416 childH3205[H8803], and in no wiseH4191[H8687] slayH4191[H8686] it. But the other saidH559[H8802], Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divideH1504 itH8798. |
| [27]וַיַּ֨עַן הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר תְּנוּ־לָהּ֙ אֶת־הַיָּל֣וּד הַחַ֔י וְהָמֵ֖ת לֹ֣א תְמִיתֻ֑הוּ הִ֖יא אִמֹּֽו׃ |
[27]Then the kingH4428 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], GiveH5414[H8798] her the livingH2416 childH3205[H8803], and in no wiseH4191[H8687] slayH4191[H8686] it: she is the mother thereofH517. |
| [28]וַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ כָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּט֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁפַ֣ט הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיִּֽרְא֖וּ מִפְּנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ כִּ֣י רָא֔וּ כִּֽי־חָכְמַ֧ת אֱלֹהִ֛ים בְּקִרְבֹּ֖ו לַעֲשֹׂ֥ות מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ |
[28]And all IsraelH3478 heardH8085[H8799] of the judgmentH4941 which the kingH4428 had judgedH8199[H8804]; and they fearedH3372[H8799] the kingH6440: for they sawH7200[H8804] that the wisdomH2451 of GodH430 was in himH7130, to doH6213[H8800] judgmentH4941. |
