[1]There was a man of one of the two Ramathaim Zophim, of mout Ephraim, named Elkana, the sonne of Ieroham, the sonne of Elihu, the sonne of Thohu, the sonne of Zuph, an Ephrathite |
[1]Now there was a certainH259 manH376 of RamathaimzophimH7436, of mountH2022 EphraimH669, and his nameH8034 was ElkanahH511, the sonH1121 of JerohamH3395, the sonH1121 of ElihuH453, the sonH1121 of TohuH8459, the sonH1121 of ZuphH6689, an EphrathiteH673: |
[2]Which had two wyues, the one called Hanna, & the other Phenenna: And Phenenna had children, but Hanna had no children |
[2]And he had twoH8147 wivesH802; the nameH8034 of the oneH259 was HannahH2584, and the nameH8034 of the otherH8145 PeninnahH6444: and PeninnahH6444 had childrenH3206, but HannahH2584 had no childrenH3206. |
[3]And this man went vp out of his citie euery yere, to worship and to sacrifice vnto the Lord of hoastes in Silo, where were the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni and Phinehes, the Lordes priestes |
[3]And thisH1931 manH376 went upH5927[H8804] out of his cityH5892 yearlyH3117[H3117] to worshipH7812[H8692] and to sacrificeH2076[H8800] unto the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635 in ShilohH7887. And the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of EliH5941, HophniH2652 and PhinehasH6372, the priestsH3548 of the LORD, were thereH3068. |
[4]And it fel on a day, that Elkana offered, and gaue to Phenenna his wyfe, and to all her sonnes and daughters, portions |
[4]And when the timeH3117 was that ElkanahH511 offeredH2076[H8799], he gaveH5414[H8804] to PeninnahH6444 his wifeH802, and to all her sonsH1121 and her daughtersH1323, portionsH4490: |
[5]But vnto Hanna he gaue a worthy portion: for he loued Hanna, & the Lorde had made her barren |
[5]But unto HannahH2584 he gaveH5414[H8799] aH259 worthyH639 portionH4490; for he lovedH157[H8804] HannahH2584: but the LORDH3068 had shut upH5462[H8804] her wombH7358. |
[6]And her enemie [Phenenna] vexed her sore, forasmuche as she vpbrayded her, because the Lord had made her barren |
[6]And her adversaryH6869 also provokedH3707[H8765] her soreH3708, for to make her fretH7481[H8687], because the LORDH3068 had shutH5462[H8804] upH1157 her wombH7358. |
[7](And so dyd he yere by yere) and as oft as she wet vp to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept, and dyd not eate |
[7]And as he didH6213[H8799] so yearH8141 by yearH8141, whenH1767 she went upH5927[H8800] to the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, so she provokedH3707[H8686] her; therefore she weptH1058[H8799], and did not eatH398.[H8799] |
[8]Then sayde Elkana her husband to her: Hanna, why wepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine hearte troubled? Am not I better to thee then ten sonnes |
[8]Then saidH559[H8799] ElkanahH511 her husbandH376 to her, HannahH2584, why weepestH1058[H8799] thou? and why eatestH398[H8799] thou not? and why is thy heartH3824 grievedH3415[H8799]? am not I betterH2896 to thee than tenH6235 sonsH1121? |
[9]So Hanna rose vp after that they had eaten and drunke in Silo. (And Eli the priest sate vpon a stoole by one of the postes of the temple of the Lorde. |
[9]So HannahH2584 rose upH6965[H8799] afterH310 they had eatenH398[H8800] in ShilohH7887, and afterH310 they had drunkH8354[H8800]. Now EliH5941 the priestH3548 satH3427[H8802] upon a seatH3678 by a postH4201 of the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068. |
[10]And she was troubled in her minde, and prayed vnto the Lord, & wept sore |
[10]And she was in bitternessH4751 of soulH5315, and prayedH6419[H8691] unto the LORDH3068, and weptH1058[H8799] soreH1058.[H8800] |
[11]And vowed a vowe, and sayd: O Lord of hoastes, if thou wilt loke on the trouble of thyne handmayde and remembre me, and not forget thyne hand mayde, but geue vnto thyne handmayde a man childe, I will geue him vnto the Lorde all the dayes of his lyfe, and there shall no rasor come vpon his head |
[11]And she vowedH5087[H8799] a vowH5088, and saidH559[H8799], O LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, if thou wilt indeedH7200[H8800] lookH7200[H8799] on the afflictionH6040 of thine handmaidH519, and rememberH2142[H8804] me, and not forgetH7911[H8799] thine handmaidH519, but wilt giveH5414[H8804] unto thine handmaidH519 a manH582 childH2233, then I will giveH5414[H8804] him unto the LORDH3068 all the daysH3117 of his lifeH2416, and there shall no razorH4177 comeH5927[H8799] upon his headH7218. |
[12]And as she continued praying before the Lord, Eli marked her mouth |
[12]And it came to pass, as she continuedH7235[H8689] prayingH6419[H8692] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, that EliH5941 markedH8104[H8802] her mouthH6310. |
[13]For Hanna spake in her hearte, & her lippes did but moue onely, but her voyce was not hearde, & therfore Eli thought she had ben drunken |
[13]Now HannahH2584, she spakeH1696[H8764] in her heartH3820; only her lipsH8193 movedH5128[H8801], but her voiceH6963 was not heardH8085[H8735]: therefore EliH5941 thoughtH2803[H8799] she had been drunkenH7910. |
[14]And Eli sayde vnto her: Howe long wilt thou be drunken? Put away from thee the wine that thou hast |
[14]And EliH5941 saidH559[H8799] unto her, How long wilt thou be drunkenH7937[H8691]? put awayH5493[H8685] thy wine from theeH3196. |
[15]Hanna aunswered, and sayde, Not so my Lord: I am a woman of a sorowful hearte, I haue drunke neither wine nor strong drincke, but haue powred out my soule before the Lorde |
[15]And HannahH2584 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], No, my lordH113, I am a womanH802 of a sorrowfulH7186 spiritH7307: I have drunkH8354[H8804] neither wineH3196 nor strong drinkH7941, but have poured outH8210[H8799] my soulH5315 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. |
[16]Count not thine handmayde for a wicked woman: for out of the aboundaunce of my heauynesse & griefe, haue I spoken hytherto |
[16]CountH5414[H8799] not thine handmaidH519 forH6440 a daughterH1323 of BelialH1100: for out of the abundanceH7230 of my complaintH7879 and griefH3708 have I spokenH1696 hithertoH8765. |
[17]Eli aunswered her againe, and sayde: Go in peace, the God of Israel graunt thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him |
[17]Then EliH5941 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], GoH3212[H8798] in peaceH7965: and the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 grantH5414[H8799] thee thy petitionH7596 that thou hast askedH7592 of himH8804. |
[18]She said: Let thyne handmayde finde grace in thy sight. And so the woman went her way, and dyd eate, and loked no more sad |
[18]And she saidH559[H8799], Let thine handmaidH8198 findH4672[H8799] graceH2580 in thy sightH5869. So the womanH802 wentH3212[H8799] her wayH1870, and did eatH398[H8799], and her countenance was no more sadH6440. |
[19]And they rose vp early, & worshipped before the Lorde, and then returned, & came to their house to Ramath: And when Elkana knewe Hanna his wyfe, the Lorde remembred her |
[19]And they rose upH7925 in the morningH1242 earlyH7925[H8686], and worshippedH7812[H8691] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and returnedH7725[H8799], and cameH935[H8799] to their houseH1004 to RamahH7414: and ElkanahH511 knewH3045[H8799] HannahH2584 his wifeH802; and the LORDH3068 rememberedH2142 herH8799. |
[20]For in processe of time it came to passe, that she conceaued, and bare a sonne, & called his name Samuel, [saying:] Because I haue asked him of the Lorde |
[20]Wherefore it came to pass, when the timeH3117 was comeH8622 about after HannahH2584 had conceivedH2029[H8799], that she bareH3205[H8799] a sonH1121, and calledH7121[H8799] his nameH8034 SamuelH8050, saying, Because I have askedH7592[H8804] him of the LORDH3068. |
[21]And the man Elkana and all his house, went vp to offer vnto the Lorde the yerely sacrifice, and also his vowe |
[21]And the manH376 ElkanahH511, and all his houseH1004, went upH5927[H8799] to offerH2076[H8800] unto the LORDH3068 the yearlyH3117 sacrificeH2077, and his vowH5088. |
[22]Neuerthelesse, Hanna wet not vp, but sayde vnto her husband: I will tary vntill the lad be weaned, and then I will bryng hym, that he may appeare before the Lord, and there abyde for euer |
[22]But HannahH2584 went not upH5927[H8804]; for she saidH559[H8804] unto her husbandH376, I will not go up until the childH5288 be weanedH1580[H8735], and then I will bringH935[H8689] him, that he may appearH7200[H8738] beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, and there abideH3427[H8804] forH5704 everH5769. |
[23]Elkana her husband aunswered her: Do what seemeth thee best, tary at home vntyll thou hast weaned him, and I beseche the Lord to make good his saying. And so the woman abode, and gaue her sonne sucke, vntyll she weaned hym |
[23]And ElkanahH511 her husbandH376 saidH559[H8799] unto her, DoH6213[H8798] what seemethH5869 thee goodH2896; tarryH3427[H8798] until thou have weanedH1580[H8800] him; only the LORDH3068 establishH6965[H8686] his wordH1697. So the womanH802 abodeH3427[H8799], and gave her sonH1121 suckH3243[H8686] until she weanedH1580 himH8800. |
[24]And when she had weaned hym, she toke hym with her, with three bullockes, and an Epha of floure, and a bottle of wine, and brought hym vnto the house of the Lorde in Silo, and the child was young |
[24]And when she had weanedH1580[H8804] him, she took him upH5927[H8686] with her, with threeH7969 bullocksH6499, and oneH259 ephahH374 of flourH7058, and a bottleH5035 of wineH3196, and broughtH935[H8686] him unto the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068 in ShilohH7887: and the childH5288 was youngH5288. |
[25]And they slue a bulloke, and brought in the lad to Eli |
[25]And they slewH7819[H8799] a bullockH6499, and broughtH935[H8686] the childH5288 to EliH5941. |
[26]And she sayd: Oh my Lorde, as thy soule lyueth my Lorde, I am the woman that stoode before thee here praying vnto the Lorde |
[26]And she saidH559[H8799], OhH994 my lordH113, as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, my lordH113, I am the womanH802 that stoodH5324[H8737] by thee here, prayingH6419[H8692] unto the LORDH3068. |
[27]For this lad I prayed, and the Lorde hath geuen me my desyre whiche I asked of him |
[27]For this childH5288 I prayedH6419[H8694]; and the LORDH3068 hath givenH5414[H8799] me my petitionH7596 which I askedH7592 of himH8804: |
[28]And therfore I haue geuen him vnto the Lord, as long as he liueth he shalbe geuen to the Lorde. And he worshipped the Lorde there |
[28]Therefore also I have lentH7592[H8689] him to the LORDH3068; as long as he livethH3117 he shall be lentH7592[H8803] to the LORDH3068. And he worshippedH7812[H8691] the LORD thereH3068. |
