| [1]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל עַד־מָתַי֙ אַתָּה֙ מִתְאַבֵּ֣ל אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וַאֲנִ֣י מְאַסְתִּ֔יו מִמְּלֹ֖ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מַלֵּ֨א קַרְנְךָ֜ שֶׁ֗מֶן וְלֵ֤ךְ אֶֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֙ אֶל־יִשַׁ֣י בֵּֽית־הַלַּחְמִ֔י כִּֽי־רָאִ֧יתִי בְּבָנָ֛יו לִ֖י מֶֽלֶךְ׃ |
[1]And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto SamuelH8050, How long wilt thou mournH56[H8693] for SaulH7586, seeing I have rejectedH3988[H8804] him from reigningH4427[H8800] over IsraelH3478? fillH4390[H8761] thine hornH7161 with oilH8081, and goH3212[H8798], I will sendH7971[H8799] thee to JesseH3448 the BethlehemiteH1022: for I have providedH7200[H8804] me a kingH4428 among his sonsH1121. |
| [2]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֵ֣יךְ אֵלֵ֔ךְ וְשָׁמַ֥ע שָׁא֖וּל וַהֲרָגָ֑נִי וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה עֶגְלַ֤ת בָּקָר֙ תִּקַּ֣ח בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ לִזְבֹּ֥חַ לַֽיהוָ֖ה בָּֽאתִי׃ |
[2]And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799], How can I goH3212[H8799]? if SaulH7586 hearH8085[H8804] it, he will killH2026[H8804] me. And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799], TakeH3947[H8799] an heiferH1241[H5697] with theeH3027, and sayH559[H8804], I am comeH935[H8804] to sacrificeH2076[H8800] to the LORDH3068. |
| [3]וְקָרָ֥אתָ לְיִשַׁ֖י בַּזָּ֑בַח וְאָֽנֹכִ֗י אֹודִֽיעֲךָ֙ אֵ֣ת אֲשֶֽׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה וּמָשַׁחְתָּ֣ לִ֔י אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־אֹמַ֖ר אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ |
[3]And callH7121[H8804] JesseH3448 to the sacrificeH2077, and I will shewH3045[H8686] thee what thou shalt doH6213[H8799]: and thou shalt anointH4886[H8804] unto me him whom I nameH559 unto theeH8799. |
| [4]וַיַּ֣עַשׂ שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל אֵ֚ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֖א בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם וַיֶּחֶרְד֞וּ זִקְנֵ֤י הָעִיר֙ לִקְרָאתֹ֔ו וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שָׁלֹ֥ם בֹּואֶֽךָ׃ |
[4]And SamuelH8050 didH6213[H8799] that which the LORDH3068 spakeH1696[H8765], and cameH935[H8799] to BethlehemH1035. And the eldersH2205 of the townH5892 trembledH2729[H8799] at his comingH7125[H8800], and saidH559[H8799], ComestH935[H8800] thou peaceablyH7965? |
| [5]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ שָׁלֹ֗ום לִזְבֹּ֤חַ לַֽיהוָה֙ בָּ֔אתִי הִֽתְקַדְּשׁ֔וּ וּבָאתֶ֥ם אִתִּ֖י בַּזָּ֑בַח וַיְקַדֵּ֤שׁ אֶת־יִשַׁי֙ וְאֶת־בָּנָ֔יו וַיִּקְרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ם לַזָּֽבַח׃ |
[5]And he saidH559[H8799], PeaceablyH7965: I am comeH935[H8804] to sacrificeH2076[H8800] unto the LORDH3068: sanctifyH6942[H8690] yourselves, and comeH935[H8804] with me to the sacrificeH2077. And he sanctifiedH6942[H8762] JesseH3448 and his sonsH1121, and calledH7121[H8799] them to the sacrificeH2077. |
| [6]וַיְהִ֣י בְּבֹואָ֔ם וַיַּ֖רְא אֶת־אֱלִיאָ֑ב וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אַ֛ךְ נֶ֥גֶד יְהוָ֖ה מְשִׁיחֹֽו׃ |
[6]And it came to pass, when they were comeH935[H8800], that he lookedH7200[H8799] on EliabH446, and saidH559[H8799], Surely the LORD'SH3068 anointed is before himH4899. |
| [7]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל אַל־תַּבֵּ֧ט אֶל־מַרְאֵ֛הוּ וְאֶל־גְּבֹ֥הַּ קֹומָתֹ֖ו כִּ֣י מְאַסְתִּ֑יהוּ כִּ֣י ׀ לֹ֗א אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִרְאֶה֙ הָאָדָ֔ם כִּ֤י הָֽאָדָם֙ יִרְאֶ֣ה לַעֵינַ֔יִם וַיהוָ֖ה יִרְאֶ֥ה לַלֵּבָֽב׃ |
[7]But the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799] unto SamuelH8050, LookH5027[H8686] not on his countenanceH4758, or on the heightH1364 of his statureH6967; because I have refusedH3988[H8804] him: for the LORD seeth not as manH120 seethH7200[H8799]; for manH120 lookethH7200[H8799] on the outward appearanceH5869, but the LORDH3068 lookethH7200[H8799] on the heartH3824. |
| [8]וַיִּקְרָ֤א יִשַׁי֙ אֶל־אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וַיַּעֲבִרֵ֖הוּ לִפְנֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֕אמֶר גַּם־בָּזֶ֖ה לֹֽא־בָחַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃ |
[8]Then JesseH3448 calledH7121[H8799] AbinadabH41, and made him passH5674[H8686] beforeH6440 SamuelH8050. And he saidH559[H8799], Neither hath the LORDH3068 chosenH977 thisH8804. |
| [9]וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר יִשַׁ֖י שַׁמָּ֑ה וַיֹּ֕אמֶר גַּם־בָּזֶ֖ה לֹא־בָחַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃ |
[9]Then JesseH3448 made ShammahH8048 to pass byH5674[H8686]. And he saidH559[H8799], Neither hath the LORDH3068 chosenH977 thisH8804. |
| [10]וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר יִשַׁ֛י שִׁבְעַ֥ת בָּנָ֖יו לִפְנֵ֣י שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶל־יִשַׁ֔י לֹא־בָחַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בָּאֵֽלֶּה׃ |
[10]Again, JesseH3448 made sevenH7651 of his sonsH1121 to passH5674[H8686] beforeH6440 SamuelH8050. And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799] unto JesseH3448, The LORDH3068 hath not chosenH977 theseH8804. |
| [11]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֣ל אֶל־יִשַׁי֮ הֲתַ֣מּוּ הַנְּעָרִים֒ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר עֹ֚וד שָׁאַ֣ר הַקָּטָ֔ן וְהִנֵּ֥ה רֹעֶ֖ה בַּצֹּ֑אן וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל־יִשַׁי֙ שִׁלְחָ֣ה וְקָחֶ֔נּוּ כִּ֥י לֹא־נָסֹ֖ב עַד־בֹּאֹ֥ו פֹֽה׃ |
[11]And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799] unto JesseH3448, Are here allH8552[H8804] thy childrenH5288? And he saidH559[H8799], There remainethH7604[H8804] yet the youngestH6996, and, behold, he keepethH7462[H8802] the sheepH6629. And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799] unto JesseH3448, SendH7971[H8798] and fetchH3947[H8798] him: for we will not sit downH5437[H8799] till he comeH935[H8800] hitherH6311. |
| [12]וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח וַיְבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙ וְה֣וּא אַדְמֹונִ֔י עִם־יְפֵ֥ה עֵינַ֖יִם וְטֹ֣וב רֹ֑אִי וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה ק֥וּם מְשָׁחֵ֖הוּ כִּֽי־זֶ֥ה הֽוּא׃ |
[12]And he sentH7971[H8799], and brought him inH935[H8686]. Now he was ruddyH132, and withalH5973 of a beautifulH3303 countenanceH5869, and goodlyH2896 to look toH7210. And the LORDH3068 saidH559[H8799], AriseH6965[H8798], anointH4886 him: for this is heH8798. |
| [13]וַיִּקַּ֨ח שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל אֶת־קֶ֣רֶן הַשֶּׁ֗מֶן וַיִּמְשַׁ֣ח אֹתֹו֮ בְּקֶ֣רֶב אֶחָיו֒ וַתִּצְלַ֤ח רֽוּחַ־יְהוָה֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד מֵהַיֹּ֥ום הַה֖וּא וָמָ֑עְלָה וַיָּ֣קָם שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ הָרָמָֽתָה׃ |
[13]Then SamuelH8050 tookH3947[H8799] the hornH7161 of oilH8081, and anointedH4886[H8799] him in the midstH7130 of his brethrenH251: and the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 cameH6743[H8799] upon DavidH1732 from that dayH3117 forwardH4605. So SamuelH8050 rose upH6965[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799] to RamahH7414. |
| [14]וְר֧וּחַ יְהוָ֛ה סָ֖רָה מֵעִ֣ם שָׁא֑וּל וּבִֽעֲתַ֥תּוּ רֽוּחַ־רָעָ֖ה מֵאֵ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃ |
[14]But the SpiritH7307 of the LORDH3068 departedH5493[H8804] from SaulH7586, and an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from the LORDH3068 troubledH1204 himH8765. |
| [15]וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי־שָׁא֖וּל אֵלָ֑יו הִנֵּה־נָ֧א רֽוּחַ־אֱלֹהִ֛ים רָעָ֖ה מְבַעִתֶּֽךָ׃ |
[15]And Saul'sH7586 servantsH5650 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Behold now, an evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH430 troublethH1204 theeH8764. |
| [16]יֹאמַר־נָ֤א אֲדֹנֵ֙נוּ֙ עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ יְבַקְשׁ֕וּ אִ֕ישׁ יֹדֵ֖עַ מְנַגֵּ֣ן בַּכִּנֹּ֑ור וְהָיָ֗ה בִּֽהְיֹ֨ות עָלֶ֤יךָ רֽוּחַ־אֱלֹהִים֙ רָעָ֔ה וְנִגֵּ֥ן בְּיָדֹ֖ו וְטֹ֥וב לָֽךְ׃ |
[16]Let our lordH113 now commandH559[H8799] thy servantsH5650, which are beforeH6440 thee, to seek outH1245[H8762] a manH376, who is a cunningH3045[H8802] playerH5059[H8764] on an harpH3658: and it shall come to pass, when the evilH7451 spiritH7307 from GodH430 is upon thee, that he shall playH5059[H8765] with his handH3027, and thou shalt be wellH2895.[H8804] |
| [17]וַיֹּ֥אמֶר שָׁא֖וּל אֶל־עֲבָדָ֑יו רְאוּ־נָ֣א לִ֗י אִ֚ישׁ מֵיטִ֣יב לְנַגֵּ֔ן וַהֲבִיאֹותֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃ |
[17]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] unto his servantsH5650, ProvideH7200[H8798] me now a manH376 that can playH5059[H8763] wellH3190[H8688], and bringH935 him to meH8689. |
| [18]וַיַּעַן֩ אֶחָ֨ד מֵהַנְּעָרִ֜ים וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הִנֵּ֨ה רָאִ֜יתִי בֵּ֣ן לְיִשַׁי֮ בֵּ֣ית הַלַּחְמִי֒ יֹדֵ֣עַ נַ֠גֵּן וְגִבֹּ֨ור חַ֜יִל וְאִ֧ישׁ מִלְחָמָ֛ה וּנְבֹ֥ון דָּבָ֖ר וְאִ֣ישׁ תֹּ֑אַר וַיהוָ֖ה עִמֹּֽו׃ |
[18]Then answeredH6030[H8799] oneH259 of the servantsH5288, and saidH559[H8799], Behold, I have seenH7200[H8804] a sonH1121 of JesseH3448 the BethlehemiteH1022, that is cunningH3045[H8802] in playingH5059[H8763], and a mightyH1368 valiant manH2428, and a manH376 of warH4421, and prudentH995[H8737] in mattersH1697, and a comelyH8389 personH376, and the LORD is with himH3068. |
| [19]וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח שָׁא֛וּל מַלְאָכִ֖ים אֶל־יִשָׁ֑י וַיֹּ֕אמֶר שִׁלְחָ֥ה אֵלַ֛י אֶת־דָּוִ֥ד בִּנְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּצֹּֽאן׃ |
[19]Wherefore SaulH7586 sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 unto JesseH3448, and saidH559[H8799], SendH7971[H8798] me DavidH1732 thy sonH1121, which is with the sheepH6629. |
| [20]וַיִּקַּ֨ח יִשַׁ֜י חֲמֹ֥ור לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְנֹ֣אד יַ֔יִן וּגְדִ֥י עִזִּ֖ים אֶחָ֑ד וַיִּשְׁלַ֛ח בְּיַד־דָּוִ֥ד בְּנֹ֖ו אֶל־שָׁאֽוּל׃ |
[20]And JesseH3448 tookH3947[H8799] an assH2543 laden with breadH3899, and a bottleH4997 of wineH3196, and aH259 kidH1423[H5795], and sentH7971[H8799] them byH3027 DavidH1732 his sonH1121 unto SaulH7586. |
| [21]וַיָּבֹ֤א דָוִד֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד לְפָנָ֑יו וַיֶּאֱהָבֵ֣הֽוּ מְאֹ֔ד וַֽיְהִי־לֹ֖ו נֹשֵׂ֥א כֵלִֽים׃ |
[21]And DavidH1732 cameH935[H8799] to SaulH7586, and stoodH5975[H8799] beforeH6440 him: and he lovedH157[H8799] him greatlyH3966; and he became his armourbearerH5375[H8802].[H3627] |
| [22]וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח שָׁא֔וּל אֶל־יִשַׁ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר יַעֲמָד־נָ֤א דָוִד֙ לְפָנַ֔י כִּֽי־מָ֥צָא חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינָֽי׃ |
[22]And SaulH7586 sentH7971[H8799] to JesseH3448, sayingH559[H8800], Let DavidH1732, I pray thee, standH5975[H8799] beforeH6440 me; for he hath foundH4672[H8804] favourH2580 in my sightH5869. |
| [23]וְהָיָ֗ה בִּֽהְיֹ֤ות רֽוּחַ־אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל וְלָקַ֥ח דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־הַכִּנֹּ֖ור וְנִגֵּ֣ן בְּיָדֹ֑ו וְרָוַ֤ח לְשָׁאוּל֙ וְטֹ֣וב לֹ֔ו וְסָ֥רָה מֵעָלָ֖יו ר֥וּחַ הָרָעָֽה׃ |
[23]And it came to pass, when the evil spiritH7307 from GodH430 was upon SaulH7586, that DavidH1732 tookH3947[H8804] an harpH3658, and playedH5059[H8765] with his handH3027: so SaulH7586 was refreshedH7304[H8804], and was wellH2895[H8804], and the evilH7451 spiritH7307 departedH5493 from himH8804. |
