| [1]וַיַּאַסְפ֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים אֶת־מַֽחֲנֵיהֶם֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַיֵּאָ֣סְפ֔וּ שֹׂכֹ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִיהוּדָ֑ה וַֽיַּחֲנ֛וּ בֵּין־שֹׂוכֹ֥ה וּבֵין־עֲזֵקָ֖ה בְּאֶ֥פֶס דַּמִּֽים׃ |
[1]Now the PhilistinesH6430 gathered togetherH622[H8799] their armiesH4264 to battleH4421, and were gathered togetherH622[H8735] at ShochohH7755, which belongeth to JudahH3063, and pitchedH2583[H8799] between ShochohH7755 and AzekahH5825, in EphesdammimH658. |
| [2]וְשָׁא֤וּל וְאִֽישׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נֶאֶסְפ֔וּ וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּעֵ֣מֶק הָאֵלָ֑ה וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ מִלְחָמָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ |
[2]And SaulH7586 and the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were gathered togetherH622[H8738], and pitchedH2583[H8799] by the valleyH6010 of ElahH425, and set the battleH4421 in arrayH6186[H8799] againstH7125[H8800] the PhilistinesH6430. |
| [3]וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים עֹמְדִ֤ים אֶל־הָהָר֙ מִזֶּ֔ה וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל עֹמְדִ֥ים אֶל־הָהָ֖ר מִזֶּ֑ה וְהַגַּ֖יְא בֵּינֵיהֶֽם׃ |
[3]And the PhilistinesH6430 stoodH5975[H8802] on a mountainH2022 on the one side, and IsraelH3478 stoodH5975[H8802] on a mountainH2022 on the other side: and there was a valley between themH1516. |
| [4]וַיֵּצֵ֤א אִֽישׁ־הַבֵּנַ֙יִם֙ מִמַּחֲנֹ֣ות פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים גָּלְיָ֥ת שְׁמֹ֖ו מִגַּ֑ת גָּבְהֹ֕ו שֵׁ֥שׁ אַמֹּ֖ות וָזָֽרֶת׃ |
[4]And there went outH3318[H8799] a championH376[H1143] out of the campH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430, namedH8034 GoliathH1555, of GathH1661, whose heightH1363 was sixH8337 cubitsH520 and a spanH2239. |
| [5]וְכֹ֤ובַע נְחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ עַל־רֹאשֹׁ֔ו וְשִׁרְיֹ֥ון קַשְׂקַשִּׂ֖ים ה֣וּא לָב֑וּשׁ וּמִשְׁקַל֙ הַשִּׁרְיֹ֔ון חֲמֵשֶׁת־אֲלָפִ֥ים שְׁקָלִ֖ים נְחֹֽשֶֽׁת׃ |
[5]And he had an helmetH3553 of brassH5178 upon his headH7218, and he was armedH3847[H8803] with a coatH8302 of mailH7193; and the weightH4948 of the coatH8302 was fiveH2568 thousandH505 shekelsH8255 of brassH5178. |
| [6]וּמִצְחַ֥ת נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל־רַגְלָ֑יו וְכִידֹ֥ון נְחֹ֖שֶׁת בֵּ֥ין כְּתֵפָֽיו׃ |
[6]And he had greavesH4697 of brassH5178 upon his legsH7272, and a targetH3591 of brassH5178 between his shouldersH3802. |
| [7][וְחָץ כ] (וְעֵ֣ץ ק) חֲנִיתֹ֗ו כִּמְנֹור֙ אֹֽרְגִ֔ים וְלַהֶ֣בֶת חֲנִיתֹ֔ו שֵׁשׁ־מֵאֹ֥ות שְׁקָלִ֖ים בַּרְזֶ֑ל וְנֹשֵׂ֥א הַצִּנָּ֖ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ לְפָנָֽיו׃ |
[7]And the staffH6086[H8675][H2671] of his spearH2595 was like a weaver'sH707[H8802] beamH4500; and his spear'sH2595 headH3852 weighed sixH8337 hundredH3967 shekelsH8255 of ironH1270: and one bearingH5375[H8802] a shieldH6793 wentH1980[H8802] before himH6440. |
| [8]וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד וַיִּקְרָא֙ אֶל־מַעַרְכֹ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם לָ֥מָּה תֵצְא֖וּ לַעֲרֹ֣ךְ מִלְחָמָ֑ה הֲלֹ֧וא אָנֹכִ֣י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י וְאַתֶּם֙ עֲבָדִ֣ים לְשָׁא֔וּל בְּרוּ־לָכֶ֥ם אִ֖ישׁ וְיֵרֵ֥ד אֵלָֽי׃ |
[8]And he stoodH5975[H8799] and criedH7121[H8799] unto the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, Why are ye come outH3318[H8799] to set your battleH4421 in arrayH6186[H8800]? am not I a PhilistineH6430, and ye servantsH5650 to SaulH7586? chooseH1262[H8798] you a manH376 for you, and let him come downH3381 to meH8799. |
| [9]אִם־יוּכַ֞ל לְהִלָּחֵ֤ם אִתִּי֙ וְהִכָּ֔נִי וְהָיִ֥ינוּ לָכֶ֖ם לַעֲבָדִ֑ים וְאִם־אֲנִ֤י אֽוּכַל־לֹו֙ וְהִכִּיתִ֔יו וִהְיִ֤יתֶם לָ֙נוּ֙ לַעֲבָדִ֔ים וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֖ם אֹתָֽנוּ׃ |
[9]If he be ableH3201[H8799] to fightH3898[H8736] with me, and to killH5221[H8689] me, then will we be your servantsH5650: but if I prevailH3201[H8799] against him, and killH5221[H8689] him, then shall ye be our servantsH5650, and serveH5647 usH8804. |
| [10]וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אֲנִ֗י חֵרַ֛פְתִּי אֶת־מַעַרְכֹ֥ות יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַיֹּ֣ום הַזֶּ֑ה תְּנוּ־לִ֣י אִ֔ישׁ וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה יָֽחַד׃ |
[10]And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559[H8799], I defyH2778[H8765] the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478 this dayH3117; giveH5414[H8798] me a manH376, that we may fightH3898[H8735] togetherH3162. |
| [11]וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע שָׁאוּל֙ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֵּחַ֥תּוּ וַיִּֽרְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד׃ |
[11]When SaulH7586 and all IsraelH3478 heardH8085[H8799] those wordsH1697 of the PhilistineH6430, they were dismayedH2865[H8735], and greatlyH3966 afraidH3372.[H8799] |
| [12]וְדָוִד֩ בֶּן־אִ֨ישׁ אֶפְרָתִ֜י הַזֶּ֗ה מִבֵּ֥ית לֶ֙חֶם֙ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּשְׁמֹ֣ו יִשַׁ֔י וְלֹ֖ו שְׁמֹנָ֣ה בָנִ֑ים וְהָאִישׁ֙ בִּימֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל זָקֵ֖ן בָּ֥א בַאֲנָשִֽׁים׃ |
[12]Now DavidH1732 was the sonH1121 of that EphrathiteH376[H673] of BethlehemjudahH1035[H3063], whose nameH8034 was JesseH3448; and he had eightH8083 sonsH1121: and the manH376 wentH935[H8804] among menH582 for an old manH2204[H8804] in the daysH3117 of SaulH7586. |
| [13]וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת בְּנֵֽי־יִשַׁי֙ הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֥וּ אַחֲרֵי־שָׁא֖וּל לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְשֵׁ֣ם ׀ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֗יו אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָלְכוּ֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה אֱלִיאָ֣ב הַבְּכֹ֗ור וּמִשְׁנֵ֙הוּ֙ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וְהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֖י שַׁמָּֽה׃ |
[13]And the threeH7969 eldestH1419 sonsH1121 of JesseH3448 wentH3212[H8799] and followedH310 SaulH7586 to the battleH4421: and the namesH8034 of his threeH7969 sonsH1121 that wentH1980[H8804] to the battleH4421 were EliabH446 the firstbornH1060, and nextH4932 unto him AbinadabH41, and the thirdH7992 ShammahH8048. |
| [14]וְדָוִ֖ד ה֣וּא הַקָּטָ֑ן וּשְׁלֹשָׁה֙ הַגְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל׃ |
[14]And DavidH1732 was the youngestH6996: and the threeH7969 eldestH1419 followedH1980[H8804][H310] SaulH7586. |
| [15]וְדָוִ֛ד הֹלֵ֥ךְ וָשָׁ֖ב מֵעַ֣ל שָׁא֑וּל לִרְעֹ֛ות אֶת־צֹ֥אן אָבִ֖יו בֵּֽית־לָֽחֶם׃ |
[15]But DavidH1732 wentH1980[H8802] and returnedH7725[H8802] from SaulH7586 to feedH7462[H8800] his father'sH1 sheepH6629 at BethlehemH1035. |
| [16]וַיִּגַּ֥שׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְהַעֲרֵ֑ב וַיִּתְיַצֵּ֖ב אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יֹֽום׃ |
[16]And the PhilistineH6430 drew nearH5066[H8799] morningH7925[H8687] and eveningH6150[H8687], and presentedH3320[H8691] himself fortyH705 daysH3117. |
| [17]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יִשַׁ֜י לְדָוִ֣ד בְּנֹ֗ו קַח־נָ֤א לְאַחֶ֙יךָ֙ אֵיפַ֤ת הַקָּלִיא֙ הַזֶּ֔ה וַעֲשָׂרָ֥ה לֶ֖חֶם הַזֶּ֑ה וְהָרֵ֥ץ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה לְאַחֶֽיךָ׃ |
[17]And JesseH3448 saidH559[H8799] unto DavidH1732 his sonH1121, TakeH3947[H8798] now for thy brethrenH251 an ephahH374 of thisH2088 parchedH7039 corn, and these tenH6235 loavesH3899, and runH7323[H8685] to the campH4264 to thy brethrenH251; |
| [18]וְ֠אֵת עֲשֶׂ֜רֶת חֲרִצֵ֤י הֶֽחָלָב֙ הָאֵ֔לֶּה תָּבִ֖יא לְשַׂר־הָאָ֑לֶף וְאֶת־אַחֶ֙יךָ֙ תִּפְקֹ֣ד לְשָׁלֹ֔ום וְאֶת־עֲרֻבָּתָ֖ם תִּקָּֽח׃ |
[18]And carryH935[H8686] these tenH6235 cheesesH2461[H2757] unto the captainH8269 of their thousandH505, and lookH6485[H8799] how thy brethrenH251 fareH7965, and takeH3947[H8799] their pledgeH6161. |
| [19]וְשָׁא֤וּל וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ וְכָל־אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּעֵ֖מֶק הָֽאֵלָ֑ה נִלְחָמִ֖ים עִם־פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ |
[19]Now SaulH7586, and they, and all the menH376 of IsraelH3478, were in the valleyH6010 of ElahH425, fightingH3898[H8737] with the PhilistinesH6430. |
| [20]וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם דָּוִ֜ד בַּבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּטֹּ֤שׁ אֶת־הַצֹּאן֙ עַל־שֹׁמֵ֔ר וַיִּשָּׂ֣א וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖הוּ יִשָׁ֑י וַיָּבֹא֙ הַמַּעְגָּ֔לָה וְהַחַ֗יִל הַיֹּצֵא֙ אֶל־הַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔ה וְהֵרֵ֖עוּ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ |
[20]And DavidH1732 rose up earlyH7925[H8686] in the morningH1242, and leftH5203[H8799] the sheepH6629 with a keeperH8104[H8802], and tookH5375[H8799], and wentH3212[H8799], as JesseH3448 had commandedH6680[H8765] him; and he cameH935[H8799] to the trenchH4570, as the hostH2428 was going forthH3318[H8802] to the fightH4634, and shoutedH7321[H8689] for the battleH4421. |
| [21]וַתַּעֲרֹ֤ךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים מַעֲרָכָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את מַעֲרָכָֽה׃ |
[21]For IsraelH3478 and the PhilistinesH6430 had put the battle in arrayH6186[H8799], armyH4634 againstH7125[H8800] armyH4634. |
| [22]וַיִּטֹּשׁ֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת־הַכֵּלִ֜ים מֵעָלָ֗יו עַל־יַד֙ שֹׁומֵ֣ר הַכֵּלִ֔ים וַיָּ֖רָץ הַמַּעֲרָכָ֑ה וַיָּבֹ֕א וַיִּשְׁאַ֥ל לְאֶחָ֖יו לְשָׁלֹֽום׃ |
[22]And DavidH1732 leftH5203[H8799] his carriageH3627 in the handH3027 of the keeperH8104[H8802] of the carriageH3627, and ranH7323[H8799] into the armyH4634, and cameH935[H8799] and salutedH7592[H8799][H7965] his brethrenH251. |
| [23]וְה֣וּא ׀ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֗ם וְהִנֵּ֣ה אִ֣ישׁ הַבֵּנַ֡יִם עֹולֶ֞ה גָּלְיָת֩ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י שְׁמֹ֤ו מִגַּת֙ [מִמַּעֲרֹות כ] (מִמַּעַרְכֹ֣ות ק) פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע דָּוִֽד׃ |
[23]And as he talkedH1696[H8764] with them, behold, there came upH5927[H8802] the championH376[H1143], the PhilistineH6430 of GathH1661, GoliathH1555 by nameH8034, out of the armiesH4634[H8675][H4630] of the PhilistinesH6430, and spakeH1696[H8762] according to the sameH428 wordsH1697: and DavidH1732 heardH8085 themH8799. |
| [24]וְכֹל֙ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּרְאֹותָ֖ם אֶת־הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙ מִפָּנָ֔יו וַיִּֽירְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד׃ |
[24]And all the menH376 of IsraelH3478, when they sawH7200[H8800] the manH376, fledH5127[H8799] from himH6440, and were soreH3966 afraidH3372.[H8799] |
| [25]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הַרְּאִיתֶם֙ הָאִ֤ישׁ הָֽעֹלֶה֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֛י לְחָרֵ֥ף אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹלֶ֑ה וְֽ֠הָיָה הָאִ֨ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יַכֶּ֜נּוּ יַעְשְׁרֶ֥נּוּ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ ׀ עֹ֣שֶׁר גָּדֹ֗ול וְאֶת־בִּתֹּו֙ יִתֶּן־לֹ֔ו וְאֵת֙ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֔יו יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה חָפְשִׁ֖י בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ |
[25]And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 saidH559[H8799], Have ye seenH7200[H8804] this manH376 that is come upH5927[H8802]? surely to defyH2778[H8763] IsraelH3478 is he come upH5927[H8802]: and it shall be, that the manH376 who killethH5221[H8686] him, the kingH4428 will enrichH6238[H8686] him with greatH1419 richesH6239, and will giveH5414[H8799] him his daughterH1323, and makeH6213[H8799] his father'sH1 houseH1004 freeH2670 in IsraelH3478. |
| [26]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶֽל־הָאֲנָשִׁ֞ים הָעֹמְדִ֣ים עִמֹּו֮ לֵאמֹר֒ מַה־יֵּעָשֶׂ֗ה לָאִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַכֶּה֙ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַלָּ֔ז וְהֵסִ֥יר חֶרְפָּ֖ה מֵעַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֣י מִ֗י הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י הֶֽעָרֵל֙ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכֹ֖ות אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים׃ |
[26]And DavidH1732 spakeH559[H8799] to the menH582 that stoodH5975[H8802] by him, sayingH559[H8800], What shall be doneH6213[H8735] to the manH376 that killethH5221[H8686] thisH1975 PhilistineH6430, and taketh awayH5493[H8689] the reproachH2781 from IsraelH3478? for who is this uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistineH6430, that he should defyH2778[H8765] the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 GodH430? |
| [27]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לֹו֙ הָעָ֔ם כַּדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר כֹּ֣ה יֵעָשֶׂ֔ה לָאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַכֶּֽנּוּ׃ |
[27]And the peopleH5971 answeredH559[H8799] him after this mannerH1697, sayingH559[H8800], So shall it be doneH6213[H8735] to the manH376 that killethH5221 himH8686. |
| [28]וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע אֱלִיאָב֙ אָחִ֣יו הַגָּדֹ֔ול בְּדַבְּרֹ֖ו אֶל־הָאֲנָשִׁ֑ים וַיִּֽחַר־אַף֩ אֱלִיאָ֨ב בְּדָוִ֜ד וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ לָמָּה־זֶּ֣ה יָרַ֗דְתָּ וְעַל־מִ֨י נָטַ֜שְׁתָּ מְעַ֨ט הַצֹּ֤אן הָהֵ֙נָּה֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אֲנִ֧י יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶת־זְדֹנְךָ֗ וְאֵת֙ רֹ֣עַ לְבָבֶ֔ךָ כִּ֗י לְמַ֛עַן רְאֹ֥ות הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה יָרָֽדְתָּ׃ |
[28]And EliabH446 his eldestH1419 brotherH251 heardH8085[H8799] when he spakeH1696[H8763] unto the menH582; and Eliab'sH446 angerH639 was kindledH2734[H8799] against DavidH1732, and he saidH559[H8799], Why camest thou downH3381[H8804] hither? and with whom hast thou leftH5203[H8804] thoseH2007 fewH4592 sheepH6629 in the wildernessH4057? I knowH3045[H8804] thy prideH2087, and the naughtinessH7455 of thine heartH3824; for thou art come downH3381[H8804] that thou mightest seeH7200[H8800] the battleH4421. |
| [29]וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד מֶ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתִי עָ֑תָּה הֲלֹ֖וא דָּבָ֥ר הֽוּא׃ |
[29]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799], What have I now doneH6213[H8804]? Is there not a causeH1697? |
| [30]וַיִּסֹּ֤ב מֵֽאֶצְלֹו֙ אֶל־מ֣וּל אַחֵ֔ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַיְשִׁבֻ֤הוּ הָעָם֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּדָּבָ֖ר הָרִאשֹֽׁון׃ |
[30]And he turnedH5437[H8735] from himH681 towardH4136 anotherH312, and spakeH559[H8799] after the same mannerH1697: and the peopleH5971 answeredH1697 him againH7725[H8686] after the formerH7223 mannerH1697. |
| [31]וַיְּשָּֽׁמְעוּ֙ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר דָּוִ֑ד וַיַּגִּ֥דוּ לִפְנֵֽי־שָׁא֖וּל וַיִּקָּחֵֽהוּ׃ |
[31]And when the wordsH1697 were heardH8085[H8735] which DavidH1732 spakeH1696[H8765], they rehearsedH5046[H8686] them beforeH6440 SaulH7586: and he sentH3947 for himH8799. |
| [32]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל אַל־יִפֹּ֥ל לֵב־אָדָ֖ם עָלָ֑יו עַבְדְּךָ֣ יֵלֵ֔ךְ וְנִלְחַ֖ם עִם־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֥י הַזֶּֽה׃ |
[32]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] to SaulH7586, Let no man'sH120 heartH3820 failH5307[H8799] because of him; thy servantH5650 will goH3212[H8799] and fightH3898[H8738] with this PhilistineH6430. |
| [33]וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד לֹ֤א תוּכַל֙ לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַזֶּ֔ה לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם עִמֹּ֑ו כִּֽי־נַ֣עַר אַ֔תָּה וְה֛וּא אִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמָ֖ה מִנְּעֻרָֽיו׃ |
[33]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, Thou art not ableH3201[H8799] to goH3212[H8800] against this PhilistineH6430 to fightH3898[H8736] with him: for thou art but a youthH5288, and he a manH376 of warH4421 from his youthH5271. |
| [34]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל־שָׁא֔וּל רֹעֶ֨ה הָיָ֧ה עַבְדְּךָ֛ לְאָבִ֖יו בַּצֹּ֑אן וּבָ֤א הָֽאֲרִי֙ וְאֶת־הַדֹּ֔וב וְנָשָׂ֥א שֶׂ֖ה מֵהָעֵֽדֶר׃ |

| [35]וְיָצָ֧אתִי אַחֲרָ֛יו וְהִכִּתִ֖יו וְהִצַּ֣לְתִּי מִפִּ֑יו וַיָּ֣קָם עָלַ֔י וְהֶחֱזַ֙קְתִּי֙ בִּזְקָנֹ֔ו וְהִכִּתִ֖יו וַהֲמִיתִּֽיו׃ |
[35]And I went outH3318[H8804] afterH310 him, and smoteH5221[H8689] him, and deliveredH5337[H8689] it out of his mouthH6310: and when he aroseH6965[H8799] against me, I caughtH2388[H8689] him by his beardH2206, and smoteH5221[H8689] him, and slewH4191 himH8689. |
| [36]גַּ֧ם אֶֽת־הָאֲרִ֛י גַּם־הַדֹּ֖וב הִכָּ֣ה עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ וְֽ֠הָיָה הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י הֶעָרֵ֤ל הַזֶּה֙ כְּאַחַ֣ד מֵהֶ֔ם כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכֹ֖ת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים׃ |
[36]Thy servantH5650 slewH5221[H8689] both the lionH738 and the bearH1677: and this uncircumcisedH6189 PhilistineH6430 shall be as oneH259 of them, seeing he hath defiedH2778[H8765] the armiesH4634 of the livingH2416 GodH430. |
| [37]וַיֹּאמֶר֮ דָּוִד֒ יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּלַ֜נִי מִיַּ֤ד הָֽאֲרִי֙ וּמִיַּ֣ד הַדֹּ֔ב ה֣וּא יַצִּילֵ֔נִי מִיַּ֥ד הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַזֶּ֑ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֤וּל אֶל־דָּוִד֙ לֵ֔ךְ וַֽיהוָ֖ה יִהְיֶ֥ה עִמָּֽךְ׃ |

| [38]וַיַּלְבֵּ֨שׁ שָׁא֤וּל אֶת־דָּוִד֙ מַדָּ֔יו וְנָתַ֛ן קֹ֥ובַע נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל־רֹאשֹׁ֑ו וַיַּלְבֵּ֥שׁ אֹתֹ֖ו שִׁרְיֹֽון׃ |
[38]And SaulH7586 armedH3847[H8686] DavidH1732 with his armourH4055, and he putH5414[H8804] an helmetH6959 of brassH5178 upon his headH7218; also he armedH3847[H8686] him with a coat of mailH8302. |
| [39]וַיַּחְגֹּ֣ר דָּוִ֣ד אֶת־חַ֠רְבֹּו מֵעַ֨ל לְמַדָּ֜יו וַיֹּ֣אֶל לָלֶכֶת֮ כִּ֣י לֹֽא־נִסָּה֒ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־שָׁא֗וּל לֹ֥א אוּכַ֛ל לָלֶ֥כֶת בָּאֵ֖לֶּה כִּ֣י לֹ֣א נִסִּ֑יתִי וַיְסִרֵ֥ם דָּוִ֖ד מֵעָלָֽיו׃ |
[39]And DavidH1732 girdedH2296[H8799] his swordH2719 upon his armourH4055, and he assayedH2974[H8686] to goH3212[H8800]; for he had not provedH5254[H8765] it. And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto SaulH7586, I cannotH3201[H8799] goH3212[H8800] with these; for I have not provedH5254[H8765] them. And DavidH1732 putH5493 them off himH8686. |
| [40]וַיִּקַּ֨ח מַקְלֹ֜ו בְּיָדֹ֗ו וַיִּבְחַר־לֹ֣ו חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה חַלֻּקֵֽי־אֲבָנִ֣ים ׀ מִן־הַנַּ֡חַל וַיָּ֣שֶׂם אֹ֠תָם בִּכְלִ֨י הָרֹעִ֧ים אֲשֶׁר־לֹ֛ו וּבַיַּלְק֖וּט וְקַלְּעֹ֣ו בְיָדֹ֑ו וַיִּגַּ֖שׁ אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃ |
[40]And he tookH3947[H8799] his staffH4731 in his handH3027, and choseH977[H8799] him fiveH2568 smoothH2512 stonesH68 out of the brookH5158, and putH7760[H8799] them in a shepherd'sH7462[H8802] bagH3627 which he had, even in a scripH3219; and his slingH7050 was in his handH3027: and he drew nearH5066[H8799] to the PhilistineH6430. |
| [41]וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י הֹלֵ֥ךְ וְקָרֵ֖ב אֶל־דָּוִ֑ד וְהָאִ֛ישׁ נֹשֵׂ֥א הַצִּנָּ֖ה לְפָנָֽיו׃ |
[41]And the PhilistineH6430 cameH3212[H8799] onH1980[H8802] and drew nearH7131 unto DavidH1732; and the manH376 that bareH5375[H8802] the shieldH6793 went before himH6440. |
| [42]וַיַּבֵּ֧ט הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י וַיִּרְאֶ֥ה אֶת־דָּוִ֖ד וַיִּבְזֵ֑הוּ כִּֽי־הָיָ֣ה נַ֔עַר וְאַדְמֹנִ֖י עִם־יְפֵ֥ה מַרְאֶֽה׃ |
[42]And when the PhilistineH6430 looked aboutH5027[H8686], and sawH7200[H8799] DavidH1732, he disdainedH959[H8799] him: for he was but a youthH5288, and ruddyH132, and of a fairH3303 countenanceH4758. |
| [43]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֔ד הֲכֶ֣לֶב אָנֹ֔כִי כִּֽי־אַתָּ֥ה בָֽא־אֵלַ֖י בַּמַּקְלֹ֑ות וַיְקַלֵּ֧ל הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י אֶת־דָּוִ֖ד בֵּאלֹהָֽיו׃ |
[43]And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559[H8799] unto DavidH1732, Am I a dogH3611, that thou comestH935[H8802] to me with stavesH4731? And the PhilistineH6430 cursedH7043[H8762] DavidH1732 by his godsH430. |
| [44]וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל־דָּוִ֑ד לְכָ֣ה אֵלַ֔י וְאֶתְּנָה֙ אֶת־בְּשָׂ֣רְךָ֔ לְעֹ֥וף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּלְבֶהֱמַ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ |
[44]And the PhilistineH6430 saidH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, ComeH3212[H8798] to me, and I will giveH5414[H8799] thy fleshH1320 unto the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064, and to the beastsH929 of the fieldH7704. |
| [45]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אַתָּה֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י בְּחֶ֖רֶב וּבַחֲנִ֣ית וּבְכִידֹ֑ון וְאָנֹכִ֣י בָֽא־אֵלֶ֗יךָ בְּשֵׁם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָאֹ֔ות אֱלֹהֵ֛י מַעַרְכֹ֥ות יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר חֵרַֽפְתָּ׃ |
[45]Then saidH559[H8799] DavidH1732 to the PhilistineH6430, Thou comestH935[H8802] to me with a swordH2719, and with a spearH2595, and with a shieldH3591: but I comeH935[H8802] to thee in the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of the armiesH4634 of IsraelH3478, whom thou hast defiedH2778.[H8765] |
| [46]הַיֹּ֣ום הַזֶּ֡ה יְסַגֶּרְךָ֩ יְהוָ֨ה בְּיָדִ֜י וְהִכִּיתִ֗ךָ וַהֲסִרֹתִ֤י אֶת־רֹֽאשְׁךָ֙ מֵעָלֶ֔יךָ וְנָ֨תַתִּ֜י פֶּ֣גֶר מַחֲנֵ֤ה פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ הַיֹּ֣ום הַזֶּ֔ה לְעֹ֥וף הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּלְחַיַּ֣ת הָאָ֑רֶץ וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל־הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֛י יֵ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ |
[46]This dayH3117 will the LORDH3068 deliverH5462[H8762] thee into mine handH3027; and I will smiteH5221[H8689] thee, and takeH5493[H8689] thine headH7218 from thee; and I will giveH5414[H8804] the carcasesH6297 of the hostH4264 of the PhilistinesH6430 this dayH3117 unto the fowlsH5775 of the airH8064, and to the wild beastsH2416 of the earthH776; that all the earthH776 may knowH3045[H8799] that there isH3426 a GodH430 in IsraelH3478. |
| [47]וְיֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל־הַקָּהָ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה כִּֽי־לֹ֛א בְּחֶ֥רֶב וּבַחֲנִ֖ית יְהֹושִׁ֣יעַ יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֤י לַֽיהוָה֙ הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְנָתַ֥ן אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּיָדֵֽנוּ׃ |
[47]And all this assemblyH6951 shall knowH3045[H8799] that the LORDH3068 savethH3467[H8686] not with swordH2719 and spearH2595: for the battleH4421 is the LORD'SH3068, and he will giveH5414[H8804] you into our handsH3027. |
| [48]וְהָיָה֙ כִּֽי־קָ֣ם הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ וַיִּקְרַ֖ב לִקְרַ֣את דָּוִ֑ד וַיְמַהֵ֣ר דָּוִ֔ד וַיָּ֥רָץ הַמַּעֲרָכָ֖ה לִקְרַ֥את הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃ |
[48]And it came to pass, when the PhilistineH6430 aroseH6965[H8804], and cameH3212[H8799] and drew nighH7126[H8799] to meetH7125[H8800] DavidH1732, that DavidH1732 hastedH4116[H8762], and ranH7323[H8799] toward the armyH4634 to meetH7125[H8800] the PhilistineH6430. |
| [49]וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת־יָדֹ֜ו אֶל־הַכֶּ֗לִי וַיִּקַּ֨ח מִשָּׁ֥ם אֶ֙בֶן֙ וַיְקַלַּ֔ע וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל־מִצְחֹ֑ו וַתִּטְבַּ֤ע הָאֶ֙בֶן֙ בְּמִצְחֹ֔ו וַיִּפֹּ֥ל עַל־פָּנָ֖יו אָֽרְצָה׃ |
[49]And DavidH1732 putH7971[H8799] his handH3027 in his bagH3627, and tookH3947[H8799] thence a stoneH68, and slangH7049[H8762] it, and smoteH5221[H8686] the PhilistineH6430 in his foreheadH4696, that the stoneH68 sunkH2883[H8799] into his foreheadH4696; and he fellH5307[H8799] upon his faceH6440 to the earthH776. |
| [50]וַיֶּחֱזַ֨ק דָּוִ֤ד מִן־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ בַּקֶּ֣לַע וּבָאֶ֔בֶן וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י וַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּ וְחֶ֖רֶב אֵ֥ין בְּיַד־דָּוִֽד׃ |
[50]So DavidH1732 prevailedH2388[H8799] overH4480 the PhilistineH6430 with a slingH7050 and with a stoneH68, and smoteH5221[H8686] the PhilistineH6430, and slewH4191[H8686] him; but there was no swordH2719 in the handH3027 of DavidH1732. |
| [51]וַיָּ֣רָץ דָּ֠וִד וַיַּעֲמֹ֨ד אֶל־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜י וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֶת־חַ֠רְבֹּו וַֽיִּשְׁלְפָ֤הּ מִתַּעְרָהּ֙ וַיְמֹ֣תְתֵ֔הוּ וַיִּכְרָת־בָּ֖הּ אֶת־רֹאשֹׁ֑ו וַיִּרְא֧וּ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים כִּֽי־מֵ֥ת גִּבֹּורָ֖ם וַיָּנֻֽסוּ׃ |
[51]Therefore DavidH1732 ranH7323[H8799], and stoodH5975[H8799] upon the PhilistineH6430, and tookH3947[H8799] his swordH2719, and drewH8025[H8799] it out of the sheathH8593 thereof, and slewH4191[H8787] him, and cut offH3772[H8799] his headH7218 therewith. And when the PhilistinesH6430 sawH7200[H8799] their championH1368 was deadH4191[H8804], they fledH5127.[H8799] |
| [52]וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וִיהוּדָ֜ה וַיָּרִ֗עוּ וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים עַד־בֹּואֲךָ֣ גַ֔יְא וְעַ֖ד שַׁעֲרֵ֣י עֶקְרֹ֑ון וַֽיִּפְּל֞וּ חַֽלְלֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ שַׁעֲרַ֔יִם וְעַד־גַּ֖ת וְעַד־עֶקְרֹֽון׃ |
[52]And the menH582 of IsraelH3478 and of JudahH3063 aroseH6965[H8799], and shoutedH7321[H8686], and pursuedH7291[H8799] the PhilistinesH6430, until thou comeH935[H8800] to the valleyH1516, and to the gatesH8179 of EkronH6138. And the woundedH2491 of the PhilistinesH6430 fell downH5307[H8799] by the wayH1870 to ShaaraimH8189, even unto GathH1661, and unto EkronH6138. |
| [53]וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִדְּלֹ֖ק אַחֲרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיָּשֹׁ֖סּוּ אֶת־מַחֲנֵיהֶֽם׃ |
[53]And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 returnedH7725[H8799] from chasingH1814[H8800] afterH310 the PhilistinesH6430, and they spoiledH8155[H8799] their tentsH4264. |
| [54]וַיִּקַּ֤ח דָּוִד֙ אֶת־רֹ֣אשׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְאֶת־כֵּלָ֖יו שָׂ֥ם בְּאָהֳלֹֽו׃ |
[54]And DavidH1732 tookH3947[H8799] the headH7218 of the PhilistineH6430, and broughtH935[H8686] it to JerusalemH3389; but he putH7760[H8804] his armourH3627 in his tentH168. |
| [55]וְכִרְאֹ֨ות שָׁא֜וּל אֶת־דָּוִ֗ד יֹצֵא֙ לִקְרַ֣את הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אָמַ֗ר אֶל־אַבְנֵר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֔א בֶּן־מִי־זֶ֥ה הַנַּ֖עַר אַבְנֵ֑ר וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְנֵ֔ר חֵֽי־נַפְשְׁךָ֥ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אִם־יָדָֽעְתִּי׃ |
[55]And when SaulH7586 sawH7200[H8800] DavidH1732 go forthH3318[H8802] againstH7125[H8800] the PhilistineH6430, he saidH559[H8804] unto AbnerH74, the captainH8269 of the hostH6635, AbnerH74, whose sonH1121 is this youthH5288? And AbnerH74 saidH559[H8799], As thy soulH5315 livethH2416, O kingH4428, I cannotH518 tellH3045.[H8804] |
| [56]וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ שְׁאַ֣ל אַתָּ֔ה בֶּן־מִי־זֶ֖ה הָעָֽלֶם׃ |
[56]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], EnquireH7592[H8798] thou whose sonH1121 the stripling isH5958. |
| [57]וּכְשׁ֣וּב דָּוִ֗ד מֵֽהַכֹּות֙ אֶת־הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֹתֹו֙ אַבְנֵ֔ר וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ לִפְנֵ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וְרֹ֥אשׁ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י בְּיָדֹֽו׃ |
[57]And as DavidH1732 returnedH7725[H8800] from the slaughterH5221[H8687] of the PhilistineH6430, AbnerH74 tookH3947[H8799] him, and broughtH935[H8686] him beforeH6440 SaulH7586 with the headH7218 of the PhilistineH6430 in his handH3027. |
| [58]וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ שָׁא֔וּל בֶּן־מִ֥י אַתָּ֖ה הַנָּ֑עַר וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד בֶּֽן־עַבְדְּךָ֥ יִשַׁ֖י בֵּ֥ית הַלַּחְמִֽי׃ |
[58]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] to him, Whose sonH1121 art thou, thou young manH5288? And DavidH1732 answeredH559[H8799], I am the sonH1121 of thy servantH5650 JesseH3448 the BethlehemiteH1022. |
