[6]And it came to pass as they cameH935[H8800], when DavidH1732 was returnedH7725[H8800] from the slaughterH5221[H8687] of the PhilistineH6430, that the womenH802 came outH3318[H8799] of all citiesH5892 of IsraelH3478, singingH7891[H8800] and dancingH4246, to meetH7125[H8800] kingH4428 SaulH7586, with tabretsH8596, with joyH8057, and with instruments of musickH7991.
[7]And the womenH802 answeredH6030[H8799] one another as they playedH7832[H8764], and saidH559[H8799], SaulH7586 hath slainH5221[H8689] his thousandsH505, and DavidH1732 his ten thousandsH7233.
[8]And SaulH7586 was veryH3966 wrothH2734[H8799], and the sayingH1697 displeasedH3415[H8799][H5869] him; and he saidH559[H8799], They have ascribedH5414[H8804] unto DavidH1732 ten thousandsH7233, and to me they have ascribedH5414[H8804] but thousandsH505: and what can he have more but the kingdomH4410?

[11]And SaulH7586 castH2904[H8686] the javelinH2595; for he saidH559[H8799], I will smiteH5221[H8686] DavidH1732 even to the wallH7023 with it. And DavidH1732 avoided outH5437[H8735] of his presenceH6440 twiceH6471.
[12]And SaulH7586 was afraidH3372[H8799] ofH6440 DavidH1732, because the LORDH3068 was with him, and was departedH5493[H8804] from SaulH7586.
[13]Therefore SaulH7586 removedH5493[H8686] him from him, and madeH7760[H8799] him his captainH8269 over a thousandH505; and he went outH3318[H8799] and came inH935[H8799] beforeH6440 the peopleH5971.
[14]And DavidH1732 behaved himself wiselyH7919[H8688] in all his waysH1870; and the LORD was with himH3068.
[15]Wherefore when SaulH7586 sawH7200[H8799] that he behavedH7919 himself veryH3966 wiselyH7919[H8688], he was afraidH1481[H8799] of himH6440.
[16]But all IsraelH3478 and JudahH3063 lovedH157[H8802] DavidH1732, because he went outH3318[H8802] and came inH935[H8802] before themH6440.
[17]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, Behold my elderH1419 daughterH1323 MerabH4764, her will I giveH5414[H8799] thee to wifeH802: only be thou valiantH1121[H2428] for me, and fightH3898[H8734] the LORD'SH3068 battlesH4421. For SaulH7586 saidH559[H8804], Let not mine handH3027 be upon him, but let the handH3027 of the Philistines be upon himH6430.
[18]And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799] unto SaulH7586, Who am I? and what is my lifeH2416, or my father'sH1 familyH4940 in IsraelH3478, that I should be son in lawH2860 to the kingH4428?
[19]But it came to pass at the timeH6256 when MerabH4764 Saul'sH7586 daughterH1323 should have been givenH5414[H8800] to DavidH1732, that she was givenH5414[H8738] unto AdrielH5741 the MeholathiteH4259 to wifeH802.

Wherefore SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, Thou shalt this dayH3117 be my son in lawH2859[H8691] in the one of the twainH8147.
[22]And SaulH7586 commandedH6680[H8762] his servantsH5650, saying, CommuneH1696[H8761] with DavidH1732 secretlyH3909, and sayH559[H8800], Behold, the kingH4428 hath delightH2654[H8804] in thee, and all his servantsH5650 loveH157[H8804] thee: now therefore be the king'sH4428 son in lawH2859.[H8690]
[23]And Saul'sH7586 servantsH5650 spakeH1696[H8762] those wordsH1697 in the earsH241 of DavidH1732. And DavidH1732 saidH559[H8799], SeemethH5869 it to you a lightH7043[H8738] thing to be a king'sH4428 son in lawH2859[H8692], seeing that I am a poorH7326[H8802] manH376, and lightly esteemedH7034?[H8737]
[24]And the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586 toldH5046[H8686] him, sayingH559[H8800], On this mannerH1697 spakeH1696[H8765] DavidH1732.
[25]And SaulH7586 saidH559[H8799], Thus shall ye sayH559[H8799] to DavidH1732, The kingH4428 desirethH2656 not any dowryH4119, but an hundredH3967 foreskinsH6190 of the PhilistinesH6430, to be avengedH5358[H8736] of the king'sH4428 enemiesH341[H8802]. But SaulH7586 thoughtH2803[H8804] to make DavidH1732 fallH5307[H8687] by the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.
[26]And when his servantsH5650 toldH5046[H8686] DavidH1732 these wordsH1697, it pleasedH3474[H8799][H1697][H5869] DavidH1732 well to be the king'sH4428 son in lawH2859[H8692]: and the daysH3117 were not expiredH4390.[H8804]
[27]Wherefore DavidH1732 aroseH6965[H8799] and wentH3212[H8799], he and his menH582, and slewH5221[H8686] of the PhilistinesH6430 two hundredH3967 menH376; and DavidH1732 broughtH935[H8686] their foreskinsH6190, and they gave them in full taleH4390[H8762] to the kingH4428, that he might be the king'sH4428 son in lawH2859[H8692]. [28]And SaulH7586 sawH7200[H8799] and knewH3045[H8799] that the LORDH3068 was with DavidH1732, and that MichalH4324 Saul'sH7586 daughterH1323 lovedH157 himH8804.
[29]And SaulH7586 was yet the moreH3254[H8686] afraidH3372[H8800] ofH6440 DavidH1732; and SaulH7586 became David'sH1732 enemyH341[H8802] continuallyH3117.
[30]Then the princesH8269 of the PhilistinesH6430 went forthH3318[H8799]: and it came to pass, afterH1767 they went forthH3318[H8800], that DavidH1732 behaved himself more wiselyH7919[H8804] than all the servantsH5650 of SaulH7586; so that his nameH8034 was muchH3966 set byH3365.[H8799]
