[1]And the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 was in the countryH7704 of the PhilistinesH6430 sevenH7651 monthsH2320. |
[1]So the ark of the Lord was in the country of the Philistines seven months. |
[2]And the PhilistinesH6430 calledH7121[H8799] for the priestsH3548 and the divinersH7080[H8802], sayingH559[H8800], What shall we doH6213[H8799] to the arkH727 of the LORDH3068? tellH3045[H8685] us wherewith we shall sendH7971[H8762] it to his placeH4725. |
[2]And the Philistines called the priests and the soothsayers, saying, What shall we do with the ark of the Lord? Tell us wherewith we shall send it home again. |
[3]And they saidH559[H8799], If ye send awayH7971[H8764] the arkH727 of the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, sendH7971[H8762] it not emptyH7387; but in any wiseH7725[H8687] returnH7725[H8686] him a trespass offeringH817: then ye shall be healedH7495[H8735], and it shall be knownH3045[H8738] to you why his handH3027 is not removedH5493 from youH8799. |
[3]And they said, If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, send it not away empty, but give unto it a sin offering: then shall ye be healed, and it shall be known to you, why his hand departeth not from you. |
[4]Then saidH559[H8799] they, What shall be the trespass offeringH817 which we shall returnH7725[H8686] to him? They answeredH559[H8799], FiveH2568 goldenH2091 emerodsH2914[H8675][H6076], and fiveH2568 goldenH2091 miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430: for oneH259 plagueH4046 was on you all, and on your lordsH5633. |
[4]Then said they, What shall be the sin offering, which we shall give unto it? And they answered, Five golden emerods and five golden mice, according to the number of the princes of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your princes. |
[5]Wherefore ye shall makeH6213[H8804] imagesH6754 of your emerodsH2914[H8675][H6076], and imagesH6754 of your miceH5909 that marH7843[H8688] the landH776; and ye shall giveH5414[H8804] gloryH3519 unto the GodH430 of IsraelH3478: peradventure he will lightenH7043[H8686] his handH3027 from off you, and from off your godsH430, and from off your landH776. |
[5]Wherefore ye shall make the similitudes of your emerods, and the similitudes of your mice that destroy the land: so ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel, that he may take his hand from you, and from your gods, and from your land. |
[6]Wherefore then do ye hardenH3513[H8762] your heartsH3824, as the EgyptiansH4714 and PharaohH6547 hardenedH3513[H8765] their heartsH3820? when he had wrought wonderfullyH5953[H8694] among them, did they not let the people goH7971[H8762], and they departedH3212?[H8799] |
[6]Wherefore then should ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let them go, and they departed? |
[7]Now therefore makeH6213[H8798] aH259 newH2319 cartH5699, and takeH3947[H8798] twoH8147 milchH5763[H8802] kineH6510, on which there hath comeH5927[H8804] no yokeH5923, and tieH631[H8804] the kineH6510 to the cartH5699, and bringH7725[H8689] their calvesH1121 homeH1004 from themH310: |
[7]Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on whom there hath come no yoke: and tie the kine to the cart, and bring the calves home from them. |
[8]And takeH3947[H8804] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, and layH5414[H8804] it upon the cartH5699; and putH7760[H8799] the jewelsH3627 of goldH2091, which ye returnH7725[H8689] him for a trespass offeringH817, in a cofferH712 by the sideH6654 thereof; and send it awayH7971[H8765], that it may goH1980.[H8804] |
[8]Then take the ark of the Lord, and set it upon the cart, and put the jewels of gold which ye give it for a sin offering in a coffer by the side thereof, and send it away, that it may go. |
[9]And seeH7200[H8804], if it goeth upH5927[H8799] by the wayH1870 of his own coastH1366 to BethshemeshH1053, then he hath doneH6213[H8804] us this greatH1419 evilH7451: but if not, then we shall knowH3045[H8804] that it is not his handH3027 that smoteH5060[H8804] us: it was a chanceH4745 that happened to usH1961.[H8804] |
[9]And take heed, if it go up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, it is he that did us this great evil: but if not, we shall know then, that it is not his hand that smote us, but it was a chance that happened us. |
[10]And the menH582 did soH6213[H8799]; and tookH3947[H8799] twoH8147 milchH5763[H8802] kineH6510, and tiedH631[H8799] them to the cartH5699, and shut upH3607[H8804] their calvesH1121 at homeH1004: |
[10]And the men did so: for they took two kine that gave milk, and tied them to the cart, and shut the calves at home. |
[11]And they laidH7760[H8799] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068 upon the cartH5699, and the cofferH712 with the miceH5909 of goldH2091 and the imagesH6754 of their emerodsH2914. |
[11]So they set the ark of the Lord upon the cart, and the coffer with the mice of gold, and with the similitudes of their emerods. |
[12]And the kineH6510 took the straightH3474[H8799] wayH1870 to the wayH1870 of BethshemeshH1053, and went alongH1980[H8804] the highwayH4546[H259], lowingH1600[H8800] as they wentH1980[H8800], and turned not asideH5493[H8804] to the right handH3225 or to the leftH8040; and the lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 wentH1980[H8802] afterH310 them unto the borderH1366 of BethshemeshH1053. |
[12]And the kine went the straight way to Beth-shemesh, and kept one path and lowed as they went, and turned neither to the right hand nor to the left: also the princes of the Philistines went after them, unto the borders of Bethshemesh. |
[13]And they of BethshemeshH1053 were reapingH7114[H8802] their wheatH2406 harvestH7105 in the valleyH6010: and they lifted upH5375[H8799] their eyesH5869, and sawH7200[H8799] the arkH727, and rejoicedH8055[H8799] to seeH7200 itH8800. |
[13]Now they of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley, and they lift up their eyes, and spied the ark, and rejoiced when they saw it. |
[14]And the cartH5699 cameH935[H8802] into the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091, a BethshemiteH1030, and stoodH5975[H8799] there, where there was a greatH1419 stoneH68: and they claveH1234[H8762] the woodH6086 of the cartH5699, and offeredH5927[H8689] the kineH6510 a burnt offeringH5930 unto the LORDH3068. |
[14]And the cart came into the field of Joshua a Beth-shemite, and stood still there. There was also a great stone, and they clave the wood of the cart, and offered the kine for a burnt offering unto the Lord. |
[15]And the LevitesH3881 took downH3381[H8689] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, and the cofferH712 that was with it, wherein the jewelsH3627 of goldH2091 were, and putH7760[H8799] them on the greatH1419 stoneH68: and the menH582 of BethshemeshH1053 offeredH5927[H8689] burnt offeringsH5930 and sacrificedH2076[H8799] sacrificesH2077 the same dayH3117 unto the LORDH3068. |
[15]And the Levites took down the ark of the Lord, and the coffer that was with it, wherein the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone, and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offering, and sacrificed sacrifices that same day unto the Lord. |
[16]And when the fiveH2568 lordsH5633 of the PhilistinesH6430 had seenH7200[H8804] it, they returnedH7725[H8799] to EkronH6138 the same dayH3117. |
[16]And when the five princes of the Philistines had seen it, they returned to Ekron the same day. |
[17]And these are the goldenH2091 emerodsH2914 which the PhilistinesH6430 returnedH7725[H8689] for a trespass offeringH817 unto the LORDH3068; for AshdodH795 oneH259, for GazaH5804 oneH259, for AskelonH831 oneH259, for GathH1661 oneH259, for EkronH6138 oneH259; |
[17]So these are the golden emerods, which the Philistines gave for a sin offering to the Lord: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, and for Ekron one, |
[18]And the goldenH2091 miceH5909, according to the numberH4557 of all the citiesH5892 of the PhilistinesH6430 belonging to the fiveH2568 lordsH5633, both of fencedH4013 citiesH5892, and of countryH6521 villagesH3724, even unto the greatH1419 stone of AbelH59, whereon they set downH3240[H8689] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068: which stone remaineth unto this dayH3117 in the fieldH7704 of JoshuaH3091, the BethshemiteH1030. |
[18]And golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines, belonging to the five princes, both of walled towns, and of towns unwalled, unto the great stone of Abel, whereon they set the ark of the Lord: which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua the Bethshemite. |
[19]And he smoteH5221[H8686] the menH376 of BethshemeshH1053, because they had lookedH7200[H8804] into the arkH727 of the LORDH3068, even he smoteH5221[H8686] of the peopleH5971 fiftyH2572 thousandH505 and threescore and tenH7657 menH582: and the peopleH5971 lamentedH56[H8691], because the LORDH3068 had smittenH5221[H8689] many of the peopleH5971 with a greatH1419 slaughterH4347. |
[19]And he smote of the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked in the ark of the Lord: he slew even among the people fifty thousand men and threescore and ten men. and the people lamented, because the Lord had slain the people with so great a slaughter. |
[20]And the menH582 of BethshemeshH1053 saidH559[H8799], Who is ableH3201[H8799] to standH5975[H8800] beforeH6440 this holyH6918 LORDH3068 GodH430? and to whom shall he go upH5927 from usH8799? |
[20]Wherefore the men of Beth-shemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy Lord God? And to whom shall he go from us? |
[21]And they sentH7971[H8799] messengersH4397 to the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of KirjathjearimH7157, sayingH559[H8800], The PhilistinesH6430 have brought againH7725[H8689] the arkH727 of the LORDH3068; come ye downH3381[H8798], and fetch it upH5927 to youH8685. |
[21]And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-jearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the Lord: come ye down and take it up to you. |
