[1]There was now a man of Benjamin, mighty in power named Kish the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a man of Jemini. |
| [2]And he had a sonH1121, whose nameH8034 was SaulH7586, a choice young manH970, and a goodlyH2896: and there was not among the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 a goodlierH2896 personH376 than he: from his shouldersH7926 and upwardH4605 he was higherH1364 than any of the peopleH5971. |
[2]And he had a son called Saul, a goodly young man and a fair: so that among the children of Israel there was none goodlier than he: from the shoulders upward he was higher than any of the people. |
| [3]And the assesH860 of KishH7027 Saul'sH7586 fatherH1 were lostH6[H8799]. And KishH7027 saidH559[H8799] to SaulH7586 his sonH1121, TakeH3947[H8798] now oneH259 of the servantsH5288 with thee, and ariseH6965[H8798], goH3212[H8798] seekH1245[H8761] the assesH860. |
[3]And the asses of Kish Saul's father were lost: therefore Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go, and seek the asses. |

[4]So he passed through mount Ephraim, and went through the land of Shalishah, but they found them not. Then they went through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: he went also through the land of Jemini, but they found them not. |

[5]When they came to the land of Zuph, Saul said unto his servant that was with him, Come and let us return, lest my father leave the care of asses, and take thought for us. |

[6]And he said unto him, Behold now, in this city is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith cometh to pass: let us now go thither, if so be that he can show us what way we may go. |
| [7]Then saidH559[H8799] SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, But, behold, if we goH3212[H8799], what shall we bringH935[H8686] the manH376? for the breadH3899 is spentH235[H8804] in our vesselsH3627, and there is not a presentH8670 to bringH935[H8687] to the manH376 of God: what have weH430? |
[7]Then said Saul to his servant, Well then, let us go: but what shall we bring unto the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God: what have we? |
| [8]And the servantH5288 answeredH6030[H8800] SaulH7586 againH3254[H8686], and saidH559[H8799], Behold, I haveH4672[H8738] here at handH3027 the fourth partH7253 of a shekelH8255 of silverH3701: that will I giveH5414[H8804] to the manH376 of GodH430, to tellH5046[H8689] us our wayH1870. |
[8]And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have found about me the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give the man of God, to tell us our way. |

[9](Beforetime in Israel when a man went to seek an answer of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is called now a Prophet, was in the old time called a Seer) |
| [10]Then saidH1697 SaulH7586 to his servantH5288, WellH2896 saidH559[H8799]; comeH3212[H8798], let us goH3212[H8799]. So they wentH3212[H8799] unto the cityH5892 where the manH376 of God wasH430. |
[10]Then said Saul to his servant, Well said, come, let us go: so they went into the city where the man of God was. |
| [11]And as they went upH5927[H8802] the hillH4608 to the cityH5892, they foundH4672[H8804] young maidensH5291 going outH3318[H8802] to drawH7579[H8800] waterH4325, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, IsH3426 the seerH7200 hereH8802? |
[11]And as they were going up the highway to the city, they found maids that came out to draw water, and said unto them, Is there here a seer? |
| [12]And they answeredH6030[H8799] them, and saidH559[H8799], He isH3426; behold, he is beforeH6440 you: make hasteH4116[H8761] now, for he cameH935[H8804] to dayH3117 to the cityH5892; for there is a sacrificeH2077 of the peopleH5971 to dayH3117 in the high placeH1116: |
[12]And they answered them, and said, Yea: lo, he is before you: make haste now, for he came this day to the city: for there is an offering of the people this day in the high place. |
| [13]As soon as ye be comeH935[H8800] into the cityH5892, ye shall straightwayH3651 findH4672[H8799] him, before he go upH5927[H8799] to the high placeH1116 to eatH398[H8800]: for the peopleH5971 will not eatH398[H8799] until he comeH935[H8800], because he doth blessH1288[H8762] the sacrificeH2077; and afterwardsH310[H3651] they eatH398[H8799] that be biddenH7121[H8803]. Now therefore get you upH5927[H8798]; for about this timeH3117 ye shall findH4672 himH8799. |
[13]When ye shall come into the city, ye shall find him straightway yet he come up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he will bless the sacrifice: and then eat they that be bidden to the feast: now therefore go up: for even now shall ye find him. |
| [14]And they went upH5927[H8799] intoH8432 the cityH5892: and when they were comeH935[H8802] into the cityH5892, behold, SamuelH8050 came outH3318[H8802] againstH7125[H8800] them, for to go upH5927[H8800] to the high placeH1116. |
[14]Then they went up into the city, and when they were come into the midst of the city, Samuel came out against them, to go up to the high place. |
| [15]Now the LORDH3068 had toldH1540[H8804] SamuelH8050 in his earH241 aH259 dayH3117 beforeH6440 SaulH7586 cameH935[H8800], sayingH559,[H8800] |
[15]But the Lord had revealed to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying, |
| [16]To morrowH4279 about this timeH6256 I will sendH7971[H8799] thee a manH376 out of the landH776 of BenjaminH1144, and thou shalt anointH4886[H8804] him to be captainH5057 over my peopleH5971 IsraelH3478, that he may saveH3467[H8689] my peopleH5971 out of the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430: for I have lookedH7200[H8804] upon my peopleH5971, because their cryH6818 is comeH935 unto meH8804. |
[16]Tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin: him shalt thou anoint to be governor over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hands of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, and their cry is come unto me. |
| [17]And when SamuelH8050 sawH7200[H8804] SaulH7586, the LORDH3068 saidH6030[H8804] unto him, Behold the manH376 whom I spakeH559[H8804] to thee of! this same shall reignH6113[H8799] over my peopleH5971. |
[17]When Samuel therefore saw Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people. |
| [18]Then SaulH7586 drew nearH5066[H8799] to SamuelH8050 inH8432 the gateH8179, and saidH559[H8799], TellH5046[H8685] me, I pray thee, whereH335 the seer'sH7200[H8802] house isH1004. |
[18]Then went Saul to Samuel in the midst of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer's house is. |
| [19]And SamuelH8050 answeredH6030[H8799] SaulH7586, and saidH559[H8799], I am the seerH7200[H8802]: go upH5927[H8798] beforeH6440 me unto the high placeH1116; for ye shall eatH398[H8804] with me to dayH3117, and to morrowH1242 I will let thee goH7971[H8765], and will tellH5046[H8686] thee all that is in thine heartH3824. |
[19]And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place: for ye shall eat with me today, and tomorrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart. |
| [20]And as for thine assesH860 that were lostH6[H8802] threeH7969 daysH3117 agoH3117, setH7760[H8799] not thy mindH3820 on them; for they are foundH4672[H8738]. And on whom is all the desireH2532 of IsraelH3478? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father'sH1 houseH1004? |
[20]And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, care not for them: for they are found. and on whom is set all the desire of Israel? Is it not upon thee and on all thy father's house? |
| [21]And SaulH7586 answeredH6030[H8799] and saidH559[H8799], Am not I a BenjamiteH1145, of the smallestH6996 of the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478? and my familyH4940 the leastH6810 of all the familiesH4940 of the tribeH7626 of BenjaminH1144? wherefore then speakestH1696[H8765] thou so to meH1697? |
[21]But Saul answered, and said, Am not I the son of Jemini of the smallest tribe of Israel? And my family is the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me? |
| [22]And SamuelH8050 tookH3947[H8799] SaulH7586 and his servantH5288, and broughtH935[H8686] them into the parlourH3957, and made them sitH5414[H8799] in the chiefestH7218 placeH4725 among them that were biddenH7121[H8803], which were about thirtyH7970 personsH376. |
[22]And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the chamber, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden: which were about thirty persons. |
| [23]And SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8799] unto the cookH2876, BringH5414[H8798] the portionH4490 which I gaveH5414[H8804] thee, of which I saidH559[H8804] unto thee, SetH7760 it by theeH8798. |
[23]And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring forth the portion which I gave thee, and whereof I said unto thee, Keep it with thee. |
| [24]And the cookH2876 took upH7311[H8686] the shoulderH7785, and that which was upon it, and setH7760[H8799] it beforeH6440 SaulH7586. And Samuel saidH559[H8799], Behold that which is leftH7604[H8737]! setH7760[H8798] it beforeH6440 thee, and eatH398[H8798]: for unto this timeH4150 hath it been keptH8104[H8803] for thee since I saidH559[H8800], I have invitedH7121[H8804] the peopleH5971. So SaulH7586 did eatH398[H8799] with SamuelH8050 that dayH3117. |
[24]And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold, that which is left, set it before thee and eat: for hitherto hath it been kept for thee, saying, Also I have called the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day. |
| [25]And when they were come downH3381[H8799] from the high placeH1116 into the cityH5892, Samuel communedH1696[H8762] with SaulH7586 upon the top of the houseH1406. |
[25]And when they were come down from the high place into the city, he communed with Saul upon the top of the house. |
| [26]And they arose earlyH7925[H8686]: and it came to pass about the springH5927[H8800] of the dayH7837, that SamuelH8050 calledH7121[H8799] SaulH7586 to the top of the houseH1406, sayingH559[H8800], UpH6965[H8798], that I may send thee awayH7971[H8762]. And SaulH7586 aroseH6965[H8799], and they went outH3318[H8799] bothH8147 of them, he and SamuelH8050, abroadH2351. |
[26]And when they arose early about the spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel. |
| [27]And as they were going downH3381[H8802] to the endH7097 of the cityH5892, SamuelH8050 saidH559[H8804] to SaulH7586, BidH559[H8798] the servantH5288 pass onH5674[H8799] beforeH6440 us, (and he passed onH5674[H8798],) but standH5975[H8798] thou still a whileH3117, that I may shewH8085[H8686] thee the wordH1697 of GodH430. |
[27]And when they were come down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant go before us, (and he went) but stand thou still now, that I may show thee the word of God. |
