| [1]περι δε των χρονων και των καιρων αδελφοι ου χρειαν εχετε υμιν γραφεσθαι |
[1]But of the times and the seasons, my brethren, you need not that I write to you; |
| [2]αυτοι γαρ ακριβως οιδατε οτι η ημερα κυριου ως κλεπτης εν νυκτι ουτως ερχεται |
[2]For you truly know that the day of our Lord as a thief in the night so cometh. |
| [3]οταν γαρ λεγωσιν ειρηνη και ασφαλεια τοτε αιφνιδιος αυτοις εφισταται ολεθρος ωσπερ η ωδιν τη εν γαστρι εχουση και ου μη εκφυγωσιν |
[3]While they shall be saying, Peace and tranquillity, then unawares will destruction arise against them, as distress upon the child-bearer, and they shall not escape. |
| [4]υμεις δε αδελφοι ουκ εστε εν σκοτει ινα η ημερα υμας ως κλεπτης καταλαβη |
[4]But you, my brethren, are not in darkness, that that day as a thief should overtake you. |
| [5]παντες υμεις υιοι φωτος εστε και υιοι ημερας ουκ εσμεν νυκτος ουδε σκοτους |
[5]For all of you are sons of light, and sons of the day; and are not sons of the night, nor sons of darkness. |
| [6]αρα ουν μη καθευδωμεν ως και οι λοιποι αλλα γρηγορωμεν και νηφωμεν |
[6]Sleep we not, therefore, as the rest; but be wakeful and sober. |
| [7]οι γαρ καθευδοντες νυκτος καθευδουσιν και οι μεθυσκομενοι νυκτος μεθυουσιν |
[7]For they who sleep, in the night sleep; and they who are drunken, in the night are drunken. |
| [8]ημεις δε ημερας οντες νηφωμεν ενδυσαμενοι θωρακα πιστεως και αγαπης και περικεφαλαιαν ελπιδα σωτηριας |
[8]But we who are sons of the day must be wakeful in our minds, and wear the mail-coatⓘ of faith and of love, and put on the helmet of the hope of salvation. |
| [9]οτι ουκ εθετο ημας ο θεος εις οργην αλλ εις περιποιησιν σωτηριας δια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου |
[9]For Aloha hath not appointed us to wrath, but to the possession of salvation in our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, |
| [10]του αποθανοντος υπερ ημων ινα ειτε γρηγορωμεν ειτε καθευδωμεν αμα συν αυτω ζησωμεν |
[10]Who died on our behalf, that, whether we wake or sleep, together with him we may live. |
| [11]διο παρακαλειτε αλληλους και οικοδομειτε εις τον ενα καθως και ποιειτε |
[11]Wherefore comfort one another, and edify one another, as also you do. |
| [12]ερωτωμεν δε υμας αδελφοι ειδεναι τους κοπιωντας εν υμιν και προισταμενους υμων εν κυριω και νουθετουντας υμας |
[12]BUT I entreat of you, my brethren, to know them who labour among you, and stand before your faces teaching you, |
| [13]και ηγεισθαι αυτους υπερ εκπερισσου εν αγαπη δια το εργον αυτων ειρηνευετε εν εαυτοις |
[13]That they be esteemed by you in abundant love; and on account of their work be at peace with them. |
| [14]παρακαλουμεν δε υμας αδελφοι νουθετειτε τους ατακτους παραμυθεισθε τους ολιγοψυχους αντεχεσθε των ασθενων μακροθυμειτε προς παντας |
[14]And I entreat of you, my brethren, [to] admonish the offenders, and encourage the little of soul, and bear the burden of the weak, and prolong your spirit toward every man. |
| [15]ορατε μη τις κακον αντι κακου τινι αποδω αλλα παντοτε το αγαθον διωκετε και εις αλληλους και εις παντας |
[15]And beware, lest any of you evil render for evil; but always follow after [those things which are] good [pl.] toward one another, and toward every man. |
| [16]παντοτε χαιρετε |
[16]Be joyful always, |
| [17]αδιαλειπτως προσευχεσθε |
[17]And pray without ceasing, |
| [18]εν παντι ευχαριστειτε τουτο γαρ θελημα θεου εν χριστω ιησου εις υμας |
[18]And in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of Aloha in Jeshu Meshiha concerning you. |
| [19]το πνευμα μη σβεννυτε |
[19]The Spirit quench not. |
| [20]προφητειας μη εξουθενειτε |
[20]Prophecy do not despise. |
| [21]παντα δοκιμαζετε το καλον κατεχετε |
[21]Prove every thing, and what is good retain. |
| [22]απο παντος ειδους πονηρου απεχεσθε |
[22]And from every evil thingⓘ flee. |
| [23]αυτος δε ο θεος της ειρηνης αγιασαι υμας ολοτελεις και ολοκληρον υμων το πνευμα και η ψυχη και το σωμα αμεμπτως εν τη παρουσια του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου τηρηθειη |
[23]But the God of peace himself will sanctify perfectly all of you; and your whole spirit, and your soul, and your body will he keep without fault, to the coming of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha. |
| [24]πιστος ο καλων υμας ος και ποιησει |
[24]Faithful is he who hath called you, who himself will do it! |
| [25]αδελφοι προσευχεσθε περι ημων |
[25]My brethren, pray for us. |
| [26]ασπασασθε τους αδελφους παντας εν φιληματι αγιω |
[26]Ask the peace of all our brethren, with the holy kiss. |
| [27]ορκιζω υμας τον κυριον αναγνωσθηναι την επιστολην πασιν τοις αγιοις αδελφοις |
[27]I adjure you, by our Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren. |
| [28]η χαρις του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου μεθ υμων αμην [προς θεσσαλονικεις πρωτη εγραφη απο αθηνων] |
[28]The grace of our Lord Jeshu Meshiha be with you. Amen.
