|
[1]Now there criedH6817[H8804] a certainH259 womanH802 of the wivesH802 of the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 unto ElishaH477, sayingH559[H8800], Thy servantH5650 my husbandH376 is deadH4191[H8804]; and thou knowestH3045[H8804] that thy servantH5650 did fearH3373 the LORDH3068: and the creditorH5383[H8802] is comeH935[H8804] to takeH3947[H8800] unto him my twoH8147 sonsH3206 to be bondmenH5650. |
[1]And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets hath cried unto Elisha, saying, `Thy servant, my husband, is dead, and thou hast known that thy servant was fearing Jehovah, and the lender hath come to take my two children to him for servants.' |
[2]And ElishaH477 saidH559[H8799] unto her, What shall I doH6213[H8799] for thee? tellH5046[H8685] me, what hastH3426 thou in the houseH1004? And she saidH559[H8799], Thine handmaidH8198 hath not any thing in the houseH1004, save a potH610 of oilH8081. |
[2]And Elisha saith unto her, `What do I do for thee? declare to me, what hast thou in the house?' and she saith, `Thy maid-servant hath nothing in the house except a pot of oil.' |
[3]Then he saidH559[H8799], GoH3212[H8798], borrowH7592[H8798] thee vesselsH3627 abroadH2351 of all thy neighboursH7934, even emptyH7386 vesselsH3627; borrow not a fewH4591.[H8686] |
[3]And he saith, `Go, ask for thee vessels from without, from all thy neighbours -- empty vessels -- let [them] not be few; |
[4]And when thou art come inH935[H8804], thou shalt shutH5462[H8804] the doorH1817 upon thee and upon thy sonsH1121, and shalt pour outH3332[H8804] into all those vesselsH3627, and thou shalt set asideH5265[H8686] that which is fullH4392. |
[4]and thou hast entered, and shut the door upon thee, and upon thy sons, and hast poured out into all these vessels, and the full ones thou dost remove.' |
[5]So she wentH3212[H8799] from him, and shutH5462[H8799] the doorH1817 upon her and uponH1157 her sonsH1121, whoH1992 broughtH5066[H8688] the vessels to her; and she poured outH3332.[H8716] |
[5]And she goeth from him, and shutteth the door upon her, and upon her sons; they are bringing nigh unto her, and she is pouring out, |
[6]And it came to pass, when the vesselsH3627 were fullH4390[H8800], that she saidH559[H8799] unto her sonH1121, BringH5066[H8685] me yet a vesselH3627. And he saidH559[H8799] unto her, There is not a vesselH3627 more. And the oilH8081 stayedH5975.[H8799] |
[6]and it cometh to pass, at the filling of the vessels, that she saith unto her son, `Bring nigh unto me a vessel more,' and he saith unto her, `There is not a vessel more;' and the oil stayeth. |
[7]Then she cameH935[H8799] and toldH5046[H8686] the manH376 of GodH430. And he saidH559[H8799], GoH3212[H8798], sellH4376[H8798] the oilH8081, and payH7999[H8761] thy debtH5386, and liveH2421[H8799] thou and thy childrenH1121 of the restH3498.[H8737] |
[7]And she cometh and declareth to the man of God, and he saith, `Go, sell the oil, and repay thy loan; and thou [and] thy sons do live of the rest.' |
[8]And it fell on a dayH3117, that ElishaH477 passedH5674[H8799] to ShunemH7766, where was a greatH1419 womanH802; and she constrainedH2388[H8686] him to eatH398[H8800] breadH3899. And so it was, that as oftH1767 as he passed byH5674[H8800], he turnedH5493[H8799] in thither to eatH398[H8800] breadH3899. |
[8]And the day cometh that Elisha passeth over unto Shunem, and there [is] a great woman, and she layeth hold on him to eat bread, and it cometh to pass, at the time of his passing over, he turneth aside thither to eat bread, |
[9]And she saidH559[H8799] unto her husbandH376, Behold now, I perceiveH3045[H8804] that this is an holyH6918 manH376 of GodH430, which passethH5674[H8802] by us continuallyH8548. |
[9]and she saith unto her husband, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that a holy man of God he is, passing over by us continually; |
[10]Let us makeH6213[H8799] a littleH6996 chamberH5944, I pray thee, on the wallH7023; and let us setH7760[H8799] for him there a bedH4296, and a tableH7979, and a stoolH3678, and a candlestickH4501: and it shall be, when he comethH935[H8800] to us, that he shall turnH5493 in thitherH8799. |
[10]let us make, I pray thee, a little upper chamber of the wall, and we set for him there a bed, and a table, and a high seat, and a candlestick; and it hath been, in his coming in unto us, he doth turn aside thither.' |
[11]And it fell on a dayH3117, that he cameH935[H8799] thither, and he turnedH5493[H8799] into the chamberH5944, and layH7901 thereH8799. |
[11]And the day cometh, that he cometh in thither, and turneth aside unto the upper chamber, and lieth there, |
[12]And he saidH559[H8799] to GehaziH1522 his servantH5288, CallH7121[H8798] this ShunammiteH7767. And when he had calledH7121[H8799] her, she stoodH5975[H8799] before himH6440. |
[12]and he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Call for this Shunammite;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth before him. |
[13]And he saidH559[H8799] unto him, SayH559[H8798] now unto her, Behold, thou hast been carefulH2729[H8804] for us with all this careH2731; what is to be doneH6213[H8800] for thee? wouldestH3426 thou be spokenH1696[H8763] for to the kingH4428, or to the captainH8269 of the hostH6635? And she answeredH559[H8799], I dwellH3427[H8802] amongH8432 mine own peopleH5971. |
[13]And he saith to him, `Say, I pray thee, unto her, Lo, thou hast troubled thyself concerning us with all this trouble; what -- to do for thee? is it to speak for thee unto the king, or unto the head of the host?' and she saith, `In the midst of my people I am dwelling.' |
[14]And he saidH559[H8799], What then is to be doneH6213[H8800] for her? And GehaziH1522 answeredH559[H8799], VerilyH61 she hath no childH1121, and her husbandH376 is oldH2204.[H8804] |
[14]And he saith, `And what -- to do for her?' and Gehazi saith, `Verily she hath no son, and her husband [is] aged.' |
[15]And he saidH559[H8799], CallH7121[H8798] her. And when he had calledH7121[H8799] her, she stoodH5975[H8799] in the doorH6607. |
[15]And he saith, `Call for her;' and he calleth for her, and she standeth at the opening, |
[16]And he saidH559[H8799], About this seasonH4150, according to the timeH6256 of lifeH2416, thou shalt embraceH2263[H8802] a sonH1121. And she saidH559[H8799], Nay, my lordH113, thou manH376 of GodH430, do not lieH3576[H8762] unto thine handmaidH8198. |
[16]and he saith, `At this season, according to the time of life, thou art embracing a son;' and she saith, `Nay, my lord, O man of God, do not lie unto thy maid-servant.' |
[17]And the womanH802 conceivedH2029[H8799], and bareH3205[H8799] a sonH1121 at that seasonH4150 that ElishaH477 had saidH1696[H8765] unto her, according to the timeH6256 of lifeH2416. |
[17]And the woman conceiveth and beareth a son, at this season, according to the time of life, that Elisha spake of unto her. |
[18]And when the childH3206 was grownH1431[H8799], it fell on a dayH3117, that he went outH3318[H8799] to his fatherH1 to the reapersH7114.[H8802] |
[18]And the lad groweth, and the day cometh that he goeth out unto his father, unto the reapers, |
[19]And he saidH559[H8799] unto his fatherH1, My headH7218, my headH7218. And he saidH559[H8799] to a ladH5288, CarryH5375[H8798] him to his motherH517. |
[19]and he saith unto his father, `My head, my head;' and he saith unto the young man, `Bear him unto his mother;' |
[20]And when he had takenH5375[H8799] him, and broughtH935[H8686] him to his motherH517, he satH3427[H8799] on her kneesH1290 till noonH6672, and then diedH4191.[H8799] |
[20]and he beareth him, and bringeth him in unto his mother, and he sitteth on her knees till the noon, and dieth. |
[21]And she went upH5927[H8799], and laidH7901[H8686] him on the bedH4296 of the manH376 of GodH430, and shutH5462[H8799] the door upon him, and went outH3318.[H8799] |
[21]And she goeth up, and layeth him on the bed of the man of God, and shutteth [the door] upon him, and goeth out, |
[22]And she calledH7121[H8799] unto her husbandH376, and saidH559[H8799], SendH7971[H8798] me, I pray thee, oneH259 of the young menH5288, and oneH259 of the assesH860, that I may runH7323[H8799] to the manH376 of GodH430, and come againH7725.[H8799] |
[22]and calleth unto her husband, and saith, `Send, I pray thee, to me, one of the young men, and one of the asses, and I run unto the man of God, and return.' |
[23]And he saidH559[H8799], Wherefore wilt thou goH1980[H8802] to him to dayH3117? it is neither new moonH2320, nor sabbathH7676. And she saidH559[H8799], It shall be wellH7965. |
[23]And he saith, `Wherefore art thou going unto him to-day? -- neither new moon nor sabbath!' and she saith, `Peace [to thee]!' |
[24]Then she saddledH2280[H8799] an assH860, and saidH559[H8799] to her servantH5288, DriveH5090[H8798], and go forwardH3212[H8798]; slackH6113[H8799] not thy ridingH7392[H8800] for me, except I bidH559 theeH8804. |
[24]And she saddleth the ass, and saith unto her young man, `Lead, and go, do not restrain riding for me, except I have said [so] to thee.' |
[25]So she wentH3212[H8799] and cameH935[H8799] unto the manH376 of GodH430 to mountH2022 CarmelH3760. And it came to pass, when the manH376 of GodH430 saw her afar offH7200[H8800], that he saidH559[H8799] to GehaziH1522 his servantH5288, Behold, yonder is thatH1975 ShunammiteH7767: |
[25]And she goeth, and cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill of Carmel, and it cometh to pass, at the man of God's seeing her from over-against, that he saith unto Gehazi his young man, `Lo, this Shunammite; |
[26]RunH7323[H8798] now, I pray thee, to meetH7125[H8800] her, and sayH559[H8798] unto her, Is it wellH7965 with thee? is it wellH7965 with thy husbandH376? is it wellH7965 with the childH3206? And she answeredH559[H8799], It is wellH7965. |
[26]now, run, I pray thee, to meet her, and say to her, Is there peace to thee? is there peace to thy husband? is there peace to the lad?' and she saith, `Peace.' |
[27]And when she cameH935[H8799] to the manH376 of GodH430 to the hillH2022, she caughtH2388[H8686] him by the feetH7272: but GehaziH1522 came nearH5066[H8799] to thrust her awayH1920[H8800]. And the manH376 of GodH430 saidH559[H8799], Let her aloneH7503[H8685]; for her soulH5315 is vexedH4843[H8804] within her: and the LORDH3068 hath hidH5956[H8689] it from me, and hath not toldH5046 meH8689. |
[27]And she cometh in unto the man of God, unto the hill, and layeth hold on his feet, and Gehazi cometh nigh to thrust her away, and the man of God saith, `Let her alone, for her soul [is] bitter to her, and Jehovah hath hidden [it] from me, and hath not declared [it] to me.' |
[28]Then she saidH559[H8799], Did I desireH7592[H8804] a sonH1121 of my lordH113? did I not sayH559[H8804], Do not deceiveH7952 meH8686? |
[28]And she saith, `Did I ask a son from my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?' |
[29]Then he saidH559[H8799] to GehaziH1522, Gird upH2296[H8798] thy loinsH4975, and takeH3947[H8798] my staffH4938 in thine handH3027, and go thy wayH3212[H8798]: if thou meetH4672[H8799] any manH376, saluteH1288[H8762] him not; and if anyH376 saluteH1288[H8762] thee, answer him not againH6030[H8799]: and layH7760[H8804] my staffH4938 upon the faceH6440 of the childH5288. |
[29]And he saith to Gehazi, `Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thy hand, and go; when thou dost meet a man, thou dost not salute him; and when a man doth salute thee, thou dost not answer him; and thou hast laid my staff on the face of the youth.' |
[30]And the motherH517 of the childH5288 saidH559[H8799], As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, and as thy soulH5315 livethH2416, I will not leaveH5800[H8799] thee. And he aroseH6965[H8799], and followedH3212[H8799] herH310. |
[30]And the mother of the youth saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth -- if I leave thee;' and he riseth and goeth after her. |
[31]And GehaziH1522 passed onH5674[H8804] beforeH6440 them, and laidH7760[H8799] the staffH4938 upon the faceH6440 of the childH5288; but there was neither voiceH6963, nor hearingH7182. Wherefore he went againH7725[H8799] to meetH7125[H8800] him, and toldH5046[H8686] him, sayingH559[H8800], The childH5288 is not awakedH6974.[H8689] |
[31]And Gehazi hath passed on before them, and layeth the staff on the face of the youth, and there is no voice, and there is no attention, and he turneth back to meet him, and declareth to him, saying, `The youth hath not awaked.' |
[32]And when ElishaH477 was comeH935[H8799] into the houseH1004, behold, the childH5288 was deadH4191[H8801], and laidH7901[H8716] upon his bedH4296. |
[32]And Elisha cometh in to the house, and lo, the youth is dead, laid on his bed, |
[33]He went inH935[H8799] therefore, and shutH5462[H8799] the doorH1817 upon them twainH8147, and prayedH6419[H8691] unto the LORDH3068. |
[33]and he goeth in and shutteth the door upon them both, and prayeth unto Jehovah. |
[34]And he went upH5927[H8799], and layH7901[H8799] upon the childH3206, and putH7760[H8799] his mouthH6310 upon his mouthH6310, and his eyesH5869 upon his eyesH5869, and his handsH3709 upon his handsH3709: and he stretchedH1457[H8799] himself upon the child; and the fleshH1320 of the childH3206 waxed warmH2552.[H8799] |
[34]And he goeth up, and lieth down on the lad, and putteth his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands, and stretcheth himself upon him, and the flesh of the lad becometh warm; |
[35]Then he returnedH7725[H8799], and walkedH3212[H8799] in the houseH1004 toH259[H2008] and froH259[H2008]; and went upH5927[H8799], and stretchedH1457[H8799] himself upon him: and the childH5288 sneezedH2237[H8779] sevenH7651 timesH6471, and the childH5288 openedH6491[H8799] his eyesH5869. |
[35]and he turneth back and walketh in the house, once hither and once thither, and goeth up and stretcheth himself upon him, and the youth sneezeth till seven times, and the youth openeth his eyes. |
[36]And he calledH7121[H8799] GehaziH1522, and saidH559[H8799], CallH7121[H8798] this ShunammiteH7767. So he calledH7121[H8799] her. And when she was come inH935[H8799] unto him, he saidH559[H8799], Take upH5375[H8798] thy sonH1121. |
[36]And he calleth unto Gehazi, and saith, `Call unto this Shunammite;' and he calleth her, and she cometh in unto him, and he saith, `Lift up thy son.' |
[37]Then she went inH935[H8799], and fellH5307[H8799] at his feetH7272, and bowedH7812[H8691] herself to the groundH776, and took upH5375[H8799] her sonH1121, and went outH3318.[H8799] |
[37]And she goeth in, and falleth at his feet, and boweth herself to the earth, and lifteth up her son, and goeth out. |
[38]And ElishaH477 came againH7725[H8804] to GilgalH1537: and there was a dearthH7458 in the landH776; and the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030 were sittingH3427[H8802] beforeH6440 him: and he saidH559[H8799] unto his servantH5288, SetH8239[H8798] on the greatH1419 potH5518, and seetheH1310[H8761] pottageH5138 for the sonsH1121 of the prophetsH5030. |
[38]And Elisha hath turned back to Gilgal, and the famine [is] in the land, and the sons of the prophets are sitting before him, and he saith to his young man, `Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets.' |
[39]And oneH259 went outH3318[H8799] into the fieldH7704 to gatherH3950[H8763] herbsH219, and foundH4672[H8799] a wildH7704 vineH1612, and gatheredH3950[H8762] thereof wildH7704 gourdsH6498 his lapH899 fullH4393, and cameH935[H8799] and shredH6398[H8762] them into the potH5518 of pottageH5138: for they knewH3045 them notH8804. |
[39]And one goeth out unto the field to gather herbs, and findeth a vine of the field, and gathereth of it gourds of the field -- the fulness of his garment -- and cometh in and splitteth [them] into the pot of pottage, for they knew [them] not; |
[40]So they poured outH3332[H8799] for the menH582 to eatH398[H8800]. And it came to pass, as they were eatingH398[H8800] of the pottageH5138, that they cried outH6817[H8804], and saidH559[H8799], O thou manH376 of GodH430, there is deathH4194 in the potH5518. And they couldH3201[H8804] not eatH398 thereofH8800. |
[40]and they pour out for the men to eat, and it cometh to pass at their eating of the pottage, that they have cried out, and say, `Death [is] in the pot, O man of God!' and they have not been able to eat. |
[41]But he saidH559[H8799], Then bringH3947[H8798] mealH7058. And he castH7993[H8686] it into the potH5518; and he saidH559[H8799], Pour outH3332[H8798] for the peopleH5971, that they may eatH398[H8799]. And there was no harmH1697[H7451] in the potH5518. |
[41]And he saith, `Then bring ye meal;' and he casteth into the pot, and saith, `Pour out for the people, and they eat;' and there was no evil thing in the pot. |
[42]And there cameH935[H8802] a manH376 from BaalshalishaH1190, and broughtH935[H8686] the manH376 of GodH430 breadH3899 of the firstfruitsH1061, twentyH6242 loavesH3899 of barleyH8184, and full ears of cornH3759 in the huskH6861 thereof. And he saidH559[H8799], GiveH5414[H8798] unto the peopleH5971, that they may eatH398.[H8799] |
[42]And a man hath come from Baal-Shalishah, and bringeth in to the man of God bread of first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in its husk, and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat.' |
[43]And his servitorH8334[H8764] saidH559[H8799], What, should I setH5414[H8799] this beforeH6440 an hundredH3967 menH376? He said againH559[H8799], GiveH5414[H8798] the peopleH5971, that they may eatH398[H8799]: for thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068, They shall eatH398[H8800], and shall leaveH3498 thereofH8687. |
[43]And his minister saith, `What -- do I give this before a hundred men?' and he saith, `Give to the people, and they eat, for thus said Jehovah, Eat and leave;' |
[44]So he setH5414[H8799] it beforeH6440 them, and they did eatH398[H8799], and leftH3498[H8686] thereof, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068. |
[44]and he giveth before them, and they eat and leave, according to the word of Jehovah. |
