[1]`Sons ye [are] to Jehovah your God; ye do not cut yourselves, nor make baldness between your eyes for the dead; [1]Ye are the children of the Lord your God. Ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make you any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
[2]for a holy people [art] thou to Jehovah thy God, and on thee hath Jehovah fixed to be to Him for a people, a peculiar treasure, out of all the peoples who [are] on the face of the ground. [2]For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a precious people unto himself, above all the people that are upon the earth.
[3]`Thou dost not eat any abominable thing; [3]Thou shalt eat no manner of abomination.
[4]`this [is] the beast which ye do eat: ox, lamb of the sheep, or kid of the goats, [4]These are the beasts, which ye shall eat, the beef, the sheep, and the goat,
[5]hart, and roe, and fallow deer, and wild goat, and pygarg, and wild ox, and chamois; [5]The hart, and the roebuck, and the bugle, and the wild goat, and the unicorn, and the wild ox, and the chamois.
[6]and every beast dividing the hoof, and cleaving the cleft into two hoofs, bringing up the cud, among the beasts -- it ye do eat. [6]And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and is of the beasts that cheweth the cud, that shall ye eat.
[7]`Only, this ye do not eat, of those bringing up the cud, and of those dividing the cloven hoof: the camel, and the hare, and the rabbit, for they are bringing up the cud but the hoof have not divided; unclean they [are] to you; [7]But these ye shall not eat, of them that chew the cud, and of them that divide and cleave the hoof only: the camel, nor the hare, nor the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof: therefore they shall be unclean unto you:
[8]and the sow, for it is dividing the hoof, and not [bringing] up the cud, unclean it [is] to you; of their flesh ye do not eat, and against their carcase ye do not come. [8]Also the swine, because he divideth the hoof, and cheweth not the cud, shall be unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcasses.
[9]`This ye do eat of all that [are] in the waters; all that hath fins and scales ye do eat; [9]These ye shall eat, of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat.
[10]and anything which hath not fins and scales ye do not eat; unclean it [is] to you. [10]And whatsoever hath no fins nor scales, ye shall not eat: it shall be unclean unto you.
[11]`Any clean bird ye do eat; [11]Of all clean birds ye shall eat:
[12]and these [are] they of which ye do not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, [12]But these are they, whereof ye shall not eat: the eagle, nor the goshawk, nor the osprey,
[13]and the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after its kind, [13]Nor the glede nor the kite, nor the vulture, after their kind,
[14]and every raven after its kind; [14]Nor all kind of ravens,
[15]and the owl, and the night-hawk, and the cuckoo, and the hawk after its kind; [15]Nor the ostrich, nor the night crow, nor the semeaw, nor the hawk after her kind,
[16]the [little] owl, and the [great] owl, and the swan, [16]Neither the little owl, nor the great owl, nor the redshank,
[17]and the pelican, and the gier-eagle, and the cormorant, [17]Nor the pelican, nor the swan, nor the cormorant:
[18]and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the lapwing, and the bat; [18]The stork also, and the heron in his kind, nor the lapwing, nor the back.
[19]and every teeming thing which is flying, unclean it [is] to you; they are not eaten; [19]And every creeping thing that flieth, shall be unclean unto you: it shall not be eaten.
[20]any clean fowl ye do eat. [20]But of all clean fowls ye may eat.
[21]`Ye do not eat of any carcase; to the sojourner who [is] within thy gates thou dost give it, and he hath eaten it; or sell [it] to a stranger; for a holy people thou [art] to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not boil a kid in its mother's milk. [21]Ye shall eat of nothing that dieth alone, but thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is within thy gates, that he may eat it: or thou mayest sell it unto a stranger: for thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
[22]`Thou dost certainly tithe all the increase of thy seed which the field is bringing forth year by year; [22]Thou shalt give the tithe of all the increase of thy seed, that cometh forth of the field year by year.
[23]and thou hast eaten before Jehovah thy God, in the place where He doth choose to cause His name to tabernacle, the tithe of thy corn, of thy new wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herd, and of thy flock, so that thou dost learn to fear Jehovah thy God all the days. [23]And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God (in the place which he shall choose to cause his name to dwell there) the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstborn of thy kine and of thy sheep, that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.
[24]`And when the way is too much for thee, that thou art not able to carry it -- when the place is too far off from thee which Jehovah thy God doth choose to put His name there, when Jehovah thy God doth bless thee; -- [24]And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is far from thee, where the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name, when the Lord thy God shall bless thee,
[25]then thou hast given [it] in money, and hast bound up the money in thy hand, and gone unto the place on which Jehovah thy God doth fix; [25]Then shalt thou make it in money, and take the money in thine hand, and go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose.
[26]and thou hast given the money for any thing which thy soul desireth, for oxen, and for sheep, and for wine, and for strong drink, and for any thing which thy soul asketh, and thou hast eaten there before Jehovah thy God, and thou hast rejoiced, thou and thy house. [26]And thou shalt bestow the money for whatsoever thine heart desireth: whether it be ox, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatsoever thine heart desireth: and shalt eat it there before the Lord thy God, and rejoice, both thou, and thine household.
[27]As to the Levite who [is] within thy gates, thou dost not forsake him, for he hath no portion and inheritance with thee. [27]And the Levite that is within thy gates, shalt thou not forsake: for he hath neither part nor inheritance with thee.
[28]`At the end of three years thou dost bring out all the tithe of thine increase in that year, and hast placed [it] within thy gates; [28]At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithes of thine increase of the same year, and lay it up within thy gates.
[29]and come in hath the Levite (for he hath no part and inheritance with thee), and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who [are] within thy gates, and they have eaten, and been satisfied, so that Jehovah thy God doth bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou dost. [29]Then the Levite shall come, because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, and shall eat, and be filled, that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
