Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1][23:2]He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. [1]NO adulterer shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.
[2][23:3]A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. [2]Neither shall a bastard enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation, his descendants shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD.
[3][23:4]An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever: [3]An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to the tenth generation, his descendants shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD for ever;
[4][23:5]Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee. [4]Because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-nahrin (Mesopotamia) to curse you.
[5][23:6]Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee. [5]Nevertheless the LORD your God would not hearken to Balaam; but the LORD your God turned his curses into blessings to you, because the LORD your God loved you.
[6][23:7]Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever. [6]You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all the days of your life for ever.
[7][23:8]Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he [is] thy brother: and thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land. [7]You shall not drive away an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not drive away an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land.
[8][23:9]The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation. [8]The children that are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD in their third generation
[9][23:10]When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing. [9]When you go forth into the camp against your enemies, you shall beware of every wicked thing.
[10][23:11]If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: [10]If there is among you any man who is not clean by reason of an emission at night, then he shall go outside the camp, he shall not come within the camp;
[11][23:12]But it shall be, he shall wash his flesh in water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp [again]. [11]But when the evening comes on, he shall bathe himself with water; and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.
[12][23:13]Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad: [12]You shall have a latrine outside the camp, to which you shall go to relieve yourself.
[13][23:14]And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: [13]And you shall have a peg upon your weapon; and it shall be, when you relieve yourself, you shall dig with it, and then you shall cover your dung;
[14][23:15]For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee. [14]For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to subdue your enemies before you; therefore shall your camp be holy, that he may not see anything unclean in your camp, and turn away from you
[15][23:16]Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee: [15]You shall not deliver to his master a servant who has escaped from his master to you;
[16][23:17]He shall dwell with thee, [even] among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him. [16]But he shall dwell with you in the place which he shall choose in one of your towns, where it pleases him best; you shall not oppress him.
[17][23:18]There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. [17]There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, also there shall be no sodomite of the sons of Israel.
[18][23:19]Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God. [18]You shall not bring the hire of a whore or the price of a dog into the house of the LORD your God for any vow; for both of these are an abomination before the LORD your God.
[19][23:20]Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury: [19]You shall not lend with interest to your brother: interest of money, interest of grain, and the interest of anything that is lent with interest;
[20][23:21]Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hands to in the land whither thou goest to possess it. [20]To a foreigner you may lend with interest; but to your brother you shall not lend with interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you set your hand to in the land which you shall go in to possess.
[21][23:22]When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. [21]When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not be slack to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be a sin in you.
[22][23:23]But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee. [22]But if you are unwilling to make a vow, then it shall be no sin in you.
[23][23:24]That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; [even] a freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth. [23]That which is gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform; just as you have vowed a freewill offering to the LORD your God, which you have promised with your mouth.
[24][23:25]When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put [any] in thy vessel. [24]When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat grapes, your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any into your vessel.
[25][23:26]When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn. [25]When you come into the standing wheat of your neighbor, you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain
