[1]ω ανοητοι γαλαται τις υμας εβασκανεν οις κατ οφθαλμους ιησους χριστος προεγραφη εσταυρωμενος [1]O ye Galatians, deficient in understanding ! Who hath fascinated you? For lo, Jesus the Messiah hath been portrayed as in a picture, crucified before your eyes.
[2]τουτο μονον θελω μαθειν αφ υμων εξ εργων νομου το πνευμα ελαβετε η εξ ακοης πιστεως [2]This only would I learn from you, Was it by works of the law, that ye received the Spirit? or by the hearing of faith?
[3]ουτως ανοητοι εστε εναρξαμενοι πνευματι νυν σαρκι επιτελεισθε [3]Are ye so foolish, that having begun in the Spirit, ye now would consummate in the flesh?
[4]τοσαυτα επαθετε εικη ει γε και εικη [4]And have ye borne all these things in vain? And I would, it were in vain !
[5]ο ουν επιχορηγων υμιν το πνευμα και ενεργων δυναμεις εν υμιν εξ εργων νομου η εξ ακοης πιστεως [5]He therefore who giveth the Spirit in you, and who worketh miracles among you, [doth he these things] by the deeds of the law? or by the hearing of faith?
[6]καθως αβρααμ επιστευσεν τω θεω και ελογισθη αυτω εις δικαιοσυνην [6]In like manner Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
[7]γινωσκετε αρα οτι οι εκ πιστεως ουτοι υιοι εισιν αβρααμ [7]Know ye, therefore, that those who are of faith, they are the children of Abraham.
[8]προιδουσα δε η γραφη οτι εκ πιστεως δικαιοι τα εθνη ο θεος προευηγγελισατο τω αβρααμ οτι ενευλογηθησονται εν σοι παντα τα εθνη [8]For, because God knew beforehand that the Gentiles would be made just by faith, he preannounced it to Abraham; as saith the holy scripture, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
[9]ωστε οι εκ πιστεως ευλογουνται συν τω πιστω αβρααμ [9]Believers, therefore, it is, who are blessed with believing Abraham.
[10]οσοι γαρ εξ εργων νομου εισιν υπο καταραν εισιν γεγραπται γαρ οτι επικαταρατος πας ος ουκ εμμενει πασιν τοις γεγραμμενοις εν τω βιβλιω του νομου του ποιησαι αυτα [10]For they who are of the deeds of the law, are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one who shall not do every thing written in this law.
[11]οτι δε εν νομω ουδεις δικαιουται παρα τω θεω δηλον οτι ο δικαιος εκ πιστεως ζησεται [11]And that no one becometh just before God, by the law, is manifest: because it is written, The just by faith, shall live.
[12]ο δε νομος ουκ εστιν εκ πιστεως αλλ ο ποιησας αυτα ζησεται εν αυτοις [12]Now the law is not of faith; but, whoever shall do the things written in it, shall live by them.
[13]χριστος ημας εξηγορασεν εκ της καταρας του νομου γενομενος υπερ ημων καταρα οτι γεγραπται επικαταρατος πας ο κρεμαμενος επι ξυλου [13]But the Messiah hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, and hath been a curse for us; (for it is written, Cursed is everyone that is hanged on a tree;)
[14]ινα εις τα εθνη η ευλογια του αβρααμ γενηται εν ιησου χριστω χριστω ιησου ινα την επαγγελιαν του πνευματος λαβωμεν δια της πιστεως [14]that the blessing of Abraham might be on the Gentiles, through Jesus the Messiah; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.
[15]αδελφοι κατα ανθρωπον λεγω ομως ανθρωπου κεκυρωμενην διαθηκην ουδεις αθετει η επιδιατασσεται [15]My brethren, I speak as among men; a man's covenant which is confirmed, no one setteth aside, or changeth any thing in it.
[16]τω δε αβρααμ ερρεθησαν αι επαγγελιαι και τω σπερματι αυτου ου λεγει και τοις σπερμασιν ως επι πολλων αλλ ως εφ ενος και τω σπερματι σου ος εστιν χριστος [16]Now to Abraham was the promise made, and to his seed. And it said to him, not, to thy seeds, as being many; but to thy seed, as being one, which is the Messiah.
[17]τουτο δε λεγω διαθηκην προκεκυρωμενην υπο του θεου ο μετα τετρακοσια και τριακοντα ετη γεγονως νομος ουκ ακυροι εις το καταργησαι την επαγγελιαν [17]And this I say: That the covenant which was previously confirmed by God in the Messiah, the law which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot set it aside, and nullify the promise.
[18]ει γαρ εκ νομου η κληρονομια ουκετι εξ επαγγελιας τω δε αβρααμ δι επαγγελιας κεχαρισται ο θεος [18]And if the inheritance were by the law, it would not be by promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
[19]τι ουν ο νομος των παραβασεων χαριν προσετεθη αχρις αν ου ελθη το σπερμα ω επηγγελται διαταγεις δι αγγελων εν χειρι μεσιτου [19]What then is the law? It was added on account of transgression, until that seed should come, to whom belonged the promise: and the law was given by angels through a mediator.
[20]ο δε μεσιτης ενος ουκ εστιν ο δε θεος εις εστιν [20]Now a mediator is not of one; but God is one.
[21]ο ουν νομος κατα των επαγγελιων [του θεου] μη γενοιτο ει γαρ εδοθη νομος ο δυναμενος ζωοποιησαι οντως εν νομω εκ νομου αν ην η δικαιοσυνη [21]Is the law then opposed to the promise of God? Far be it. For if a law had been given, which could make alive, certainly, righteousness would have been by the law.
[22]αλλα συνεκλεισεν η γραφη τα παντα υπο αμαρτιαν ινα η επαγγελια εκ πιστεως ιησου χριστου δοθη τοις πιστευουσιν [22]But the scripture hath inclosed all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus the Messiah might be given to them that believe.
[23]προ του δε ελθειν την πιστιν υπο νομον εφρουρουμεθα συγκλειομενοι εις την μελλουσαν πιστιν αποκαλυφθηναι [23]But before the faith came, the law kept us shut up unto the faith that was to be revealed.
[24]ωστε ο νομος παιδαγωγος ημων γεγονεν εις χριστον ινα εκ πιστεως δικαιωθωμεν [24]The law, therefore, was a monitor for us unto the Messiah, that we might become just by faith.
[25]ελθουσης δε της πιστεως ουκετι υπο παιδαγωγον εσμεν [25]But the faith having come, we are not under the monitor.
[26]παντες γαρ υιοι θεου εστε δια της πιστεως εν χριστω ιησου [26]For ye are all the children of God, by faith in Jesus the Messiah.
[27]οσοι γαρ εις χριστον εβαπτισθητε χριστον ενεδυσασθε [27]For they who have been baptized into the Messiah, have put on the Messiah.
[28]ουκ ενι ιουδαιος ουδε ελλην ουκ ενι δουλος ουδε ελευθερος ουκ ενι αρσεν και θηλυ παντες γαρ υμεις εις εστε εν χριστω ιησου [28]There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free-born, neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Jesus the Messiah.
[29]ει δε υμεις χριστου αρα του αβρααμ σπερμα εστε κατ επαγγελιαν κληρονομοι [29]And if ye are the Messiah's, then are ye the seed of Abraham, and heirs by the promise.
