[1]Aftir that Jacob herde the wordis of the sones of Laban, that seiden, Jacob hath take awei alle thingis that weren oure fadris, and of his catel Jacob is maad riche, and noble. |

[2]Also Jacob perseyuede the face of Laban, that it was not ayens hym as yistirdai, and the thridde dai agoon, |

[3]moost for the Lord seide to hym, Turne ayen into the lond of thi fadris, and to thi generacioun, and Y shal be with thee. |

[4]He sente, and clepide Rachel, and Lya, in to the feeld, where he kepte flockis, and he seide to hem, |

[5]Y se the face of youre fadir, that it is not ayens me as `yisterdai and the thridde dai agoon; but God of my fadir was with me. |
| [6]And yeH859 knowH3045 H8804that with all my powerH3581 I have servedH5647 H8804your fatherH1. |
[6]And ye witen that with alle my strengthis Y seruede youre fadir; |
| [7]And your fatherH1 hath deceivedH2048 H8765me, and changedH2498 H8689my wagesH4909 tenH6235 timesH4489; but GodH430 suffered himH5414 H8804not to hurtH7489 H8687meH5978. |
[7]but and youre fadir disseyuyde me, and chaungide my meede ten sithis; and netheles God suffride not hym to anoye me. |
| [8]If he saidH559 H8799thus, The speckledH5348 shall be thy wagesH7939; then all the cattleH6629 bareH3205 H8804speckledH5348: and if he saidH559 H8799thus, The ringstrakedH6124 shall be thy hireH7939; then bareH3205 H8804all the cattleH6629 ringstrakedH6124. |
[8]If he seide ony tyme, Dyuerse colourid sheep schulen be thi medis, alle sheep brouyten forth dyuerse colourid lambren; forsothe whanne he seide ayenward, Thou shalte take alle white for mede, alle the flockis brouyten forth white beestis; |
| [9]Thus GodH430 hath taken awayH5337 H8686the cattleH4735 of your fatherH1, and givenH5414 them to meH8799. |
[9]and God took a wey the substaunce of youre fadir, and yaf to me. |
| [10]And it came to pass at the timeH6256 that the cattleH6629 conceivedH3179 , H8763that I lifted upH5375 H8799mine eyesH5869, and sawH7200 H8799in a dreamH2472, and, behold, the ramsH6260 which leapedH5927 H8802upon the cattleH6629 were ringstrakedH6124, speckledH5348, and grisledH1261. |
[10]For aftir that the tyme of conseyuyng of sheep cam, Y reiside myn iyen, and seiy in sleep malis dyuerse, and spotti, and of dyuerse colouris, stiynge on femalis. |
| [11]And the angelH4397 of GodH430 spakeH559 H8799unto me in a dreamH2472, saying, JacobH3290: And I saidH559, Here am IH8799. |
[11]And the aungel of the Lord seide to me in sleep, Jacob! and Y answeride, Y am redy. |
| [12]And he saidH559 , H8799Lift upH5375 H8798now thine eyesH5869, and seeH7200 , H8798all the ramsH6260 which leapH5927 H8802upon the cattleH6629 are ringstrakedH6124, speckledH5348, and grisledH1261: for I have seenH7200 H8804all that LabanH3837 doethH6213 unto theeH8802. |
[12]Which seide, Reise thin iyen, and se alle malis dyuerse, byspreynt, and spotti, stiynge on femalis; for Y seiy alle thingis whiche Laban dide to thee; |
| [13]I am the GodH410 of BethelH1008, where thou anointedstH4886 H8804the pillarH4676, and where thou vowedstH5087 H8804a vowH5088 unto me: now ariseH6965 , H8798get thee outH3318 H8798from this landH776, and returnH7725 H8798unto the landH776 of thy kindredH4138. |
[13]Y am God of Bethel, where thou anoyntidist a stoon, and madist auow to me. Now therefor rise thou, and go out of this lond, and turne ayen in to the lond of thi birthe. |
| [14]And RachelH7354 and LeahH3812 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799unto him, Is there yet any portionH2506 or inheritanceH5159 for us in our father'sH1 houseH1004? |
[14]And Rachel and Lya answeriden, Wher we han ony thing residue in the catels, and eritage of oure fadir? |
| [15]Are we not countedH2803 H8738of him strangersH5237? for he hath soldH4376 H8804us, and hath quiteH398 H8800devouredH398 H8799also our moneyH3701. |
[15]Wher he `arettide not vs as aliens, and selde, and eet oure prijs? |
| [16]For all the richesH6239 which GodH430 hath takenH5337 H8689from our fatherH1, that is ours, and our children'sH1121: now then, whatsoever GodH430 hath saidH559 H8804unto thee, doH6213.[H8798] |
[16]But God took awei the richessis of oure fadir, and yaf tho to vs, and to oure sones; wherfor do thou alle thingis whiche God hath comaundide to thee. |
| [17]Then JacobH3290 rose upH6965 , H8799and setH5375 H8799his sonsH1121 and his wivesH802 upon camelsH1581; |
[17]Forsothe Jacob roos, and puttide hise fre children and wyues on camels, and yede forth; |

[18]and he took al his catel, flockis, and what euer thing he hadde gete in Mesopotanye, and yede to Isaac, his fadir, into the lond of Canaan. |

[19]In that tyme Laban yede to schere scheep, and Rachel stal the idols of hir fadir. |
| [20]And JacobH3290 stole awayH1589 H8799unawaresH3820 to LabanH3837 the SyrianH761, in thatH5921 he toldH5046 H8689him notH1097 that he fledH1272.[H8802] |
[20]And Jacob nolde knouleche to the fadir of his wijf, that he wolde fle; |
| [21]So he fledH1272 H8799with all that he had; and he rose upH6965 , H8799and passed overH5674 H8799the riverH5104, and setH7760 H8799his faceH6440 toward the mountH2022 GileadH1568. |
[21]and whanne he hadde go, as wel he as alle thingis that weren of his riyt, and whanne he hadde passid the water, and he yede ayens the hil of Galaad, |

[22]it was teld to Laban, in the thridde dai, that Jacob fledde. |

[23]And Laban took his britheren, and pursuede hym seuene daies, and took hym in the hil of Galaad. |

[24]And Laban seiy in sleep the Lord seiynge to him, Be war that thou speke not ony thing sharpli ayens Jacob. |
| [25]Then LabanH3837 overtookH5381 H8686JacobH3290. Now JacobH3290 had pitchedH8628 H8804his tentH168 in the mountH2022: and LabanH3837 with his brethrenH251 pitchedH8628 H8804in the mountH2022 of GileadH1568. |
[25]And thanne Jacob hadde stretchid forth the tabernacle in the hil; and whanne he hadde sued Jacob with his britheren, `he settide tente in the same hil of Galaad; and he seide to Jacob, |
| [26]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799to JacobH3290, What hast thou doneH6213 , H8804that thou hast stolen awayH1589 H8799unawaresH3824 to me, and carried awayH5090 H8762my daughtersH1323, as captivesH7617 H8803taken with the swordH2719? |
[26]Whi hast thou do so, that the while I wiste not thou woldist dryue awey my douytris as caitifs by swerd? |
| [27]Wherefore didst thou flee awayH1272 H8800secretlyH2244 , H8738and steal awayH1589 H8799from me; and didst not tellH5046 H8689me, that I might have sent thee awayH7971 H8762with mirthH8057, and with songsH7892, with tabretH8596, and with harpH3658? |
[27]Whi woldist thou fle the while Y wiste not, nether woldist shewe to me, that Y shulde sue thee with ioie, and songis, and tympans, and harpis? |
| [28]And hast not sufferedH5203 H8804me to kissH5401 H8763my sonsH1121 and my daughtersH1323? thou hast now done foolishlyH5528 H8689in so doingH6213.[H8800] |
[28]Thou suffridist not that Y schulde kisse my sones and douytris; thou hast wrouyt folili. |
| [29]It isH3426 in the powerH410 of my handH3027 to doH6213 H8800you hurtH7451: but the GodH430 of your fatherH1 spakeH559 H8804unto me yesternightH570, sayingH559 , H8800Take thou heedH8104 H8734that thou speak notH1696 H8763to JacobH3290 either goodH2896 or badH7451. |
[29]And now sotheli myn hond mai yelde yuel to thee, but the God of thi fadir seide to me yisterdai, Be war that thou speke not ony harder thing with Jacob. |
| [30]And now, though thou wouldest needsH1980 H8800be goneH1980 , H8804because thou soreH3700 H8736longedstH3700 H8738after thy father'sH1 houseH1004, yet wherefore hast thou stolenH1589 H8804my godsH430? |
[30]Suppose, if thou coueitedist to go to thi kynesmen, and the hows of thi fadir was in desir to thee, whi hast thou stole my goddis? |
| [31]And JacobH3290 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799to LabanH3837, Because I was afraidH3372 : H8804for I saidH559 , H8804PeradventureH6435 thou wouldest take by forceH1497 H8799thy daughters from meH1323. |
[31]Jacob answeride, That Y yede forth while thou wistist not, Y dredde lest thou woldist take awey thi douytris violentli; |
| [32]With whomsoeverH834 thou findestH4672 H8799thy godsH430, let him not liveH2421 : H8799beforeH5048 our brethrenH251 discernH5234 H8685thou what is thine with me, and takeH3947 H8798it to thee. For JacobH3290 knewH3045 H8804not that RachelH7354 had stolenH1589 themH8804. |
[32]sotheli that thou repreuest me of thefte, at whom euer thou fyndist thi goddis, be he slayn bifor oure britheren; seke thou, what euer thing of thine thou fyndist at me, and take awei. Jacob seide these thingis, and wiste not that Rachel stal the idols. |
| [33]And LabanH3837 wentH935 H8799into Jacob'sH3290 tentH168, and into Leah'sH3812 tentH168, and into the twoH8147 maidservants'H519 tentsH168; but he foundH4672 H8804them not. Then went he outH3318 H8799of Leah'sH3812 tentH168, and enteredH935 H8799into Rachel'sH7354 tentH168. |
[33]And so Laban entride into the tabernacle of Jacob, and of Lya, and of euer eithir meyne, and foond not; and whanne Laban hadde entrid in to the tente of Rachel, |
| [34]Now RachelH7354 had takenH3947 H8804the imagesH8655, and putH7760 H8799them in the camel'sH1581 furnitureH3733, and satH3427 H8799upon them. And LabanH3837 searchedH4959 H8762all the tentH168, but foundH4672 them notH8804. |
[34]sche hastide, and hidde the idols vndur the strewyngis of the camel, and sat aboue. And sche seide to Laban, sekynge al the tente and fyndynge no thing, |
| [35]And she saidH559 H8799to her fatherH1, Let it not displeaseH2734[H8799] H5869my lordH113 that I cannotH3201 H8799rise upH6965 H8800before theeH6440; for the customH1870 of womenH802 is upon me. And he searchedH2664 , H8762but foundH4672 H8804not the imagesH8655. |
[35]My lord, be not wrooth that Y may not rise bifore thee, for it bifelde now to me bi the custom of wymmen; so the bisynesse of the sekere was scorned. |
| [36]And JacobH3290 was wrothH2734 , H8799and chodeH7378 H8799with LabanH3837: and JacobH3290 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799to LabanH3837, What is my trespassH6588? what is my sinH2403, that thou hast so hotly pursuedH1814 H8804after meH310? |
[36]And Jacob bolnyde, and seide with strijf, For what cause of me, and for what synne of me, hast thou come so fersly aftir me, |
| [37]WhereasH3588 thou hast searchedH4959 H8765all my stuffH3627, what hast thou foundH4672 H8804of all thy householdH1004 stuffH3627? setH7760 H8798it hereH3541 before my brethrenH251 and thy brethrenH251, that they may judgeH3198 H8686betwixtH996 us bothH8147. |
[37]and hast souyt al `the portenaunce of myn hous? What `hast thou founde of al the catel of thin hows? Putte thou here bifore my britheren and thi britheren, and deme thei betwixe me and thee. |
| [38]This twentyH6242 yearsH8141 have I been with thee; thy ewesH7353 and thy she goatsH5795 have not cast their youngH7921 , H8765and the ramsH352 of thy flockH6629 have I not eatenH398.[H8804] |
[38]Was I with thee herfore twenti yeer? Thi sheep and geet weren not bareyn, Y eet not the rammes of thi flok, |
| [39]That which was tornH2966 of beasts I broughtH935 H8689not unto thee; I bare the lossH2398 H8762of it; of my handH3027 didst thou requireH1245 H8762it, whether stolenH1589 H8803by dayH3117, or stolenH1589 H8803by nightH3915. |
[39]nether Y schewide to thee ony thing takun of a beeste; Y yeldide al harm; what euer thing perischide bi thefte, thou axidist of me; |
| [40]Thus I was; in the dayH3117 the droughtH2721 consumedH398 H8804me, and the frostH7140 by nightH3915; and my sleepH8142 departedH5074 H8799from mine eyesH5869. |
[40]Y was angwischid in dai and nyyt with heete and frost, and sleep fledde fro myn iyen; |
| [41]Thus have I been twentyH6242 yearsH8141 in thy houseH1004; I served theeH5647 H8804fourteenH702 H6240yearsH8141 for thy twoH8147 daughtersH1323, and sixH8337 yearsH8141 for thy cattleH6629: and thou hast changedH2498 H8686my wagesH4909 tenH6235 timesH4489. |
[41]so Y seruede thee bi twenti yeer in thin hows, fourtene yeer for thi douytris, and sixe yeer for thi flockis; and thou chaungidist my mede ten sithis. |
| [42]ExceptH3884 the GodH430 of my fatherH1, the GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the fearH6343 of IsaacH3327, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me awayH7971 H8765now emptyH7387. GodH430 hath seenH7200 H8804mine afflictionH6040 and the labourH3018 of my handsH3709, and rebukedH3198 H8686thee yesternightH570. |
[42]If God of my fadir Abraham, and the drede of Isaac hadde not helpid me, perauenture now thou haddist left me nakid; the Lord bihelde my turmentyng and the traueyl of myn hondis, and repreuyde thee yistirdai. |
| [43]And LabanH3837 answeredH6030 H8799and saidH559 H8799unto JacobH3290, These daughtersH1323 are my daughtersH1323, and these childrenH1121 are my childrenH1121, and these cattleH6629 are my cattleH6629, and all that thou seestH7200 H8802is mine: and what can I doH6213 H8799this dayH3117 unto these my daughtersH1323, orH176 unto their childrenH1121 which they have bornH3205?[H8804] |
[43]Laban answeride hym, The douytris, and thi sones, and flockis, and alle thingis whiche thou seest, ben myne, what mai Y do to my sones, and to the sones of sones? |
| [44]Now therefore come thouH3212 , H8798let us makeH3772 H8799a covenantH1285, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and theeH5707. |
[44]Therfor come thou, and make we boond of pees, that it be witnessyng bitwixe me, and thee. |
| [45]And JacobH3290 tookH3947 H8799a stoneH68, and set it upH7311 H8686for a pillarH4676. |
[45]And so Jacob took a stoon, and reiside it in to a signe, and seide to hise britheren, |
| [46]And JacobH3290 saidH559 H8799unto his brethrenH251, GatherH3950 H8798stonesH68; and they tookH3947 H8799stonesH68, and madeH6213 H8799an heapH1530: and they did eatH398 H8799there upon the heapH1530. |
[46]Brynge ye stoonus; whiche gadriden, and maden an heep, and eten on it. |
| [47]And LabanH3837 calledH7121 H8799it JegarsahaduthaH3026: but JacobH3290 calledH7121 H8804it GaleedH1567. |
[47]And Laban clepide it the heep of wittnesse, and Jacob clepide it the heep of witnessyng; euer eithir clepide bi the proprete of his langage. |
| [48]And LabanH3837 saidH559 , H8799This heapH1530 is a witnessH5707 between me and thee this dayH3117. Therefore was the nameH8034 of it calledH7121 H8804GaleedH1567; |
[48]And Laban seide, This heep schal be witnesse bytwixe me and thee to day, and herfor the name therof was clepid Galaad, that is, the heep of witnesse. |

[49]And Laban addide, The Lord biholde, and deme bitwixe vs, whanne we schulen go awei fro yow; |
| [50]If thou shalt afflictH6031 H8762my daughtersH1323, or if thou shalt takeH3947 H8799other wivesH802 besideH5921 my daughtersH1323, no manH376 is with us; seeH7200 , H8798GodH430 is witness betwixt me and theeH5707. |
[50]if thou schalt turmente my douytris, and if thou schal brynge yn othere wyues on hem, noon is witnesse of oure word, outakun God, whiche is present, and biholdith. |
| [51]And LabanH3837 saidH559 H8799to JacobH3290, Behold this heapH1530, and behold this pillarH4676, which I have castH3384 betwixt me and theeH8804; |
[51]And eft he seide to Jacob, Lo! this heep, and stoon, whiche Y reiside bitwixe me and thee, schal be witnesse; |
| [52]This heapH1530 be witnessH5707, and this pillarH4676 be witnessH5713, that I will not pass overH5674 H8799this heapH1530 to thee, and that thou shalt not pass overH5674 H8799this heapH1530 and this pillarH4676 unto me, for harmH7451. |
[52]sotheli this heep, and stoon be in to witnessyng, forsothe if Y schal passe it, and go to thee, ether thou shalt passe, and thenke yuel to me. |
| [53]The GodH430 of AbrahamH85, and the GodH430 of NahorH5152, the GodH430 of their fatherH1, judgeH8199 H8799betwixt us. And JacobH3290 swareH7650 H8735by the fearH6343 of his fatherH1 IsaacH3327. |
[53]God of Abraham, and God of Nachor, God of the fadir of hem, deme bitwixe vs. Therfor Jacob swoor by the drede of his fadir Ysaac; |

[54]and whanne slayn sacrifices weren offrid in the hil, he clepyde his britheren to ete breed, and whanne thei hadden ete, thei dwelliden there. |

[55]Forsothe Laban roos bi nyyt, and kisside his sones, and douytris, and blesside hem, and turnede ayen in to his place. |
