[1]Fayth is the grounde of thynges hoped for, the euidence of thynges not seene [1]εστιν δε πιστις ελπιζομενων υποστασις πραγματων ελεγχος ου βλεπομενων
[2]For by it, the elders obtayned a good report [2]εν ταυτη γαρ εμαρτυρηθησαν οι πρεσβυτεροι
[3]Through fayth, we vnderstande that the worldes were ordeined by the word of God, and that thynges whiche are seene, were made of thynges whiche were not seene [3]πιστει νοουμεν κατηρτισθαι τους αιωνας ρηματι θεου εις το μη εκ φαινομενων το βλεπομενον γεγονεναι
[4]By fayth Abel offered vnto God a more excellent sacrifice then Cain: by whiche he was witnessed to be ryghteous, God testifiyng of his gyftes: by which also he beyng dead, yet speaketh [4]πιστει πλειονα θυσιαν αβελ παρα καιν προσηνεγκεν τω θεω δι ης εμαρτυρηθη ειναι δικαιος μαρτυρουντος επι τοις δωροις αυτου του θεου και δι αυτης αποθανων ετι λαλει
[5]By fayth was Enoch translated, that he shoulde not see death, neither was he founde, for God had taken hym away: For afore he was taken away, he was reported of to haue pleased God [5]πιστει ενωχ μετετεθη του μη ιδειν θανατον και ουχ ηυρισκετο διοτι μετεθηκεν αυτον ο θεος προ γαρ της μεταθεσεως μεμαρτυρηται ευαρεστηκεναι τω θεω
[6]But without fayth it is vnpossible to please hym: For he that cometh to God, must beleue that God is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seeke him [6]χωρις δε πιστεως αδυνατον ευαρεστησαι πιστευσαι γαρ δει τον προσερχομενον [τω] τω θεω οτι εστιν και τοις εκζητουσιν αυτον μισθαποδοτης γινεται
[7]By fayth Noe beyng warned of God of thinges not seene as yet, moued with reuerence, prepared the arke to the sauyng of his house, through the whiche [arke] he condempned the worlde, and became heire of the righteousnes which is by fayth [7]πιστει χρηματισθεις νωε περι των μηδεπω βλεπομενων ευλαβηθεις κατεσκευασεν κιβωτον εις σωτηριαν του οικου αυτου δι ης κατεκρινεν τον κοσμον και της κατα πιστιν δικαιοσυνης εγενετο κληρονομος
[8]By fayth Abraham when he was called, obeyed, to go out into a place whiche he shoulde afterwarde receaue to inheritaunce: and he went out, not knowyng whyther he shoulde go [8]πιστει καλουμενος αβρααμ υπηκουσεν εξελθειν εις τοπον ον ημελλεν λαμβανειν εις κληρονομιαν και εξηλθεν μη επισταμενος που ερχεται
[9]By fayth he remoued into the lande of promise, as into a straunge countrey, whe he had dwelt in tabernacles, with Isaac and Iacob, heires with hym of the same promise [9]πιστει παρωκησεν εις γην της επαγγελιας ως αλλοτριαν εν σκηναις κατοικησας μετα ισαακ και ιακωβ των συγκληρονομων της επαγγελιας της αυτης
[10]For he loked for a citie hauyng a foundation, whose buylder and maker is God [10]εξεδεχετο γαρ την τους θεμελιους εχουσαν πολιν ης τεχνιτης και δημιουργος ο θεος
[11]Through fayth also Sara her selfe receaued strength to conceaue seede, and was delyuered of a chylde whe she was past age, because she iudged hym faythfull which had promised [11]πιστει και αυτη σαρρα στειρα δυναμιν εις καταβολην σπερματος ελαβεν και παρα καιρον ηλικιας επει πιστον ηγησατο τον επαγγειλαμενον
[12]And therfore sprang there of one, euen of one whiche was as good as dead [so many] in multitude, as are the starres in the skye, and as the sande the whiche is by the sea shore innumerable [12]διο και αφ ενος εγεννηθησαν και ταυτα νενεκρωμενου καθως τα αστρα του ουρανου τω πληθει και ως η αμμος η παρα το χειλος της θαλασσης η αναριθμητος
[13]These all dyed according to fayth, not hauing receaued the promises, but seing them a farre of, and beleuyng, and salutyng, and confessyng that they were straungers and pilgrimes on the earth [13]κατα πιστιν απεθανον ουτοι παντες μη κομισαμενοι λαβοντες τας επαγγελιας αλλα πορρωθεν αυτας ιδοντες και ασπασαμενοι και ομολογησαντες οτι ξενοι και παρεπιδημοι εισιν επι της γης
[14]For they that saye suche thynges, declare that they seke a countrey [14]οι γαρ τοιαυτα λεγοντες εμφανιζουσιν οτι πατριδα επιζητουσιν
[15]Also yf they had ben myndfull of that [countrey] from whence they came out, they had leasure to haue returned [15]και ει μεν εκεινης εμνημονευον αφ ης εξεβησαν ειχον αν καιρον ανακαμψαι
[16]But nowe they desire a better, that is, a heauenly. Wherefore God is not ashamed of them to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a citie [16]νυν δε κρειττονος ορεγονται τουτ εστιν επουρανιου διο ουκ επαισχυνεται αυτους ο θεος θεος επικαλεισθαι αυτων ητοιμασεν γαρ αυτοις πολιν
[17]By fayth Abraham offered by Isaac when he was proued: and he that had receaued the promises, offered vp his only begotten sonne [17]πιστει προσενηνοχεν αβρααμ τον ισαακ πειραζομενος και τον μονογενη προσεφερεν ο τας επαγγελιας αναδεξαμενος
[18]To whom it was saide, that in Isaac shall thy seede be called [18]προς ον ελαληθη οτι εν ισαακ κληθησεται σοι σπερμα
[19]For he considered that God was able to rayse the dead vp agayne, fro whence also he receaued hym in a similitude [of the resurrection. [19]λογισαμενος οτι και εκ νεκρων εγειρειν δυνατος ο θεος οθεν αυτον και εν παραβολη εκομισατο
[20]By fayth did Isaac blesse Iacob and Esau, concernyng thynges to come [20]πιστει και περι μελλοντων ευλογησεν ισαακ τον ιακωβ και τον ησαυ
[21]By fayth Iacob when he was a dying, blessed both the sonnes of Ioseph, and worshypped towarde the toppe of his scepter [21]πιστει ιακωβ αποθνησκων εκαστον των υιων ιωσηφ ευλογησεν και προσεκυνησεν επι το ακρον της ραβδου αυτου
[22]By fayth Ioseph when he dyed, remembred the departyng of the chyldren of Israel, and gaue commaundement of his bones [22]πιστει ιωσηφ τελευτων περι της εξοδου των υιων ισραηλ εμνημονευσεν και περι των οστεων αυτου ενετειλατο
[23]By fayth Moyses whe he was borne, was hyd three monethes of his father and mother, because they sawe he was a proper chylde, neither feared they the kynges commaundement [23]πιστει μωυσης γεννηθεις εκρυβη τριμηνον υπο των πατερων αυτου διοτι ειδον αστειον το παιδιον και ουκ εφοβηθησαν το διαταγμα του βασιλεως
[24]By fayth Moyses when he was great, refused to be called the sonne of Pharaos daughter [24]πιστει μωυσης μεγας γενομενος ηρνησατο λεγεσθαι υιος θυγατρος φαραω
[25]Chosyng rather to suffer aduersitie with the people of God, then to enioye the pleasures of sinne for a season [25]μαλλον ελομενος συγκακουχεισθαι τω λαω του θεου η προσκαιρον εχειν αμαρτιας απολαυσιν
[26]Esteemyng the rebuke of Christ, greater riches, then the treasures of Egypt: For he had respect vnto the recompence of the rewarde [26]μειζονα πλουτον ηγησαμενος των αιγυπτου θησαυρων τον ονειδισμον του χριστου απεβλεπεν γαρ εις την μισθαποδοσιαν
[27]By fayth he forsoke Egypt, fearyng not the wrath of the kyng: For he endured, euen as though he had seene him which is inuisible [27]πιστει κατελιπεν αιγυπτον μη φοβηθεις τον θυμον του βασιλεως τον γαρ αορατον ως ορων εκαρτερησεν
[28]Through fayth, he ordeyned the Passouer and the effusion of blood, lest he that destroyed the first borne, shoulde touche them [28]πιστει πεποιηκεν το πασχα και την προσχυσιν του αιματος ινα μη ο ολοθρευων τα πρωτοτοκα θιγη αυτων
[29]By fayth, they passed through the redde sea, as by drye lande: which the Egyptians assaying to do, were drowned [29]πιστει διεβησαν την ερυθραν θαλασσαν ως δια ξηρας γης ης πειραν λαβοντες οι αιγυπτιοι κατεποθησαν
[30]By fayth, the walles of Iericho fell downe, after they were compassed about seuen dayes [30]πιστει τα τειχη ιεριχω επεσαν κυκλωθεντα επι επτα ημερας
[31]By fayth, the harlot Rahab perished not with them that were disobedient, when she had receaued the spyes with peace [31]πιστει ρααβ η πορνη ου συναπωλετο τοις απειθησασιν δεξαμενη τους κατασκοπους μετ ειρηνης
[32]And what shall I more say? for the tyme woulde fayle me, to rehearse of Gedeon, of Barac, and of Sampson, and of Iephte, of Dauid also and Samuel, and of the prophetes [32]και τι ετι λεγω επιλειψει με γαρ διηγουμενον ο χρονος περι γεδεων βαρακ σαμψων ιεφθαε δαυιδ τε και σαμουηλ και των προφητων
[33]Which through faith subdued kingdomes, wrought righteousnesse, obteyned the promises, stopped the mouthes of the Lions [33]οι δια πιστεως κατηγωνισαντο βασιλειας ειργασαντο δικαιοσυνην επετυχον επαγγελιων εφραξαν στοματα λεοντων
[34]Quenched the violence of fyre, escaped the edge of the sworde, out of weakenesse were made strong, wared valiant in fyght, turned to flyght the armies of the aliantes [34]εσβεσαν δυναμιν πυρος εφυγον στοματα μαχαιρης εδυναμωθησαν απο ασθενειας εγενηθησαν ισχυροι εν πολεμω παρεμβολας εκλιναν αλλοτριων
[35]The women receaued their dead, raysed to lyfe agayne: Other were racked, not lokyng for deliueraunce, that they might receaue a better resurrectio [35]ελαβον γυναικες εξ αναστασεως τους νεκρους αυτων αλλοι δε ετυμπανισθησαν ου προσδεξαμενοι την απολυτρωσιν ινα κρειττονος αναστασεως τυχωσιν
[36]And others were tryed with mockynges, and scourgynges: Yea, moreouer with bondes and prisonment [36]ετεροι δε εμπαιγμων και μαστιγων πειραν ελαβον ετι δε δεσμων και φυλακης
[37]They were stoned, were hewen asunder, were tempted, were slaine with sword, wandred about in sheepskinnes, and goates skinnes, beyng destitute, afflicted [and] tormented [37]ελιθασθησαν επειρασθησαν επρισθησαν εν φονω μαχαιρης απεθανον περιηλθον εν μηλωταις εν αιγειοις δερμασιν υστερουμενοι θλιβομενοι κακουχουμενοι
[38]Of who the worlde was not worthie: They wandred in wildernesse, and in mountaynes, and in dennes, and caues of the earth [38]ων ουκ ην αξιος ο κοσμος επι ερημιαις πλανωμενοι και ορεσιν και σπηλαιοις και ταις οπαις της γης
[39]And these all through fayth, obteyned good report, and receaued not the promise [39]και ουτοι παντες μαρτυρηθεντες δια της πιστεως ουκ εκομισαντο την επαγγελιαν
[40]God prouidyng a better thyng for vs, that they without vs shoulde not be made perfect [40]του θεου περι ημων κρειττον τι προβλεψαμενου ινα μη χωρις ημων τελειωθωσιν
