[1]The burdenH4853 of the valleyH1516 of visionH2384. What aileth thee nowH645, that thou art wholly gone upH5927[H8804] to the housetopsH1406? [1]The burden concerning the Valley of Vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops,
[2]Thou that art fullH4392 of stirsH8663, a tumultuousH1993[H8802] cityH5892, a joyousH5947 cityH7151: thy slainH2491 men are not slainH2491 with the swordH2719, nor deadH4191[H8801] in battleH4421. [2]Thou that art full of uproar, a tumultuous city, a joyous town? Thy slain are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.
[3]All thy rulersH7101 are fledH5074[H8804] togetherH3162, they are boundH631[H8795] by the archersH7198: all that are foundH4672[H8737] in thee are boundH631[H8795] togetherH3162, which have fledH1272[H8804] from farH7350. [3]All thy rulers are fled together, without the bow they are bound; all that are found of thee are bound together, they are fled afar off.
[4]Therefore saidH559[H8804] I, Look awayH8159[H8798] from me; I will weepH1065 bitterlyH4843[H8762], labourH213[H8686] not to comfortH5162[H8763] me, because of the spoilingH7701 of the daughterH1323 of my peopleH5971. [4]Therefore said I: 'Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; strain not to comfort me, for the destruction of the daughter of m people.'
[5]For it is a dayH3117 of troubleH4103, and of treading downH4001, and of perplexityH3998 by the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635 in the valleyH1516 of visionH2384, breakingH6979[H8772] down the wallsH7023, and of cryingH7771 to the mountainsH2022. [5]For it is a day of trouble, and of trampling, and of perplexity, from the Lord, the ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts, in the Valley of Vision; Kir shouting, and Shoa at the mount.
[6]And ElamH5867 bareH5375[H8804] the quiverH827 with chariotsH7393 of menH120 and horsemenH6571, and KirH7024 uncoveredH6168[H8765] the shieldH4043. [6]And Elam bore the quiver, with troops of men, even horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield.
[7]And it shall come to pass, that thy choicestH4005 valleysH6010 shall be fullH4390[H8804] of chariotsH7393, and the horsemenH6571 shall setH7896[H8804] themselves in arrayH7896[H8800] at the gateH8179. [7]And it came to pass, when thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate,
[8]And he discoveredH1540[H8762] the coveringH4539 of JudahH3063, and thou didst lookH5027[H8686] in that dayH3117 to the armourH5402 of the houseH1004 of the forestH3293. [8]And the covering of Judah was laid bare, that thou didst look in that day to the armour in the house of the forest.
[9]Ye have seenH7200[H8804] also the breachesH1233 of the cityH5892 of DavidH1732, that they are manyH7231[H8804]: and ye gathered togetherH6908[H8762] the watersH4325 of the lowerH8481 poolH1295. [9]And ye saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
[10]And ye have numberedH5608[H8804] the housesH1004 of JerusalemH3389, and the housesH1004 have ye broken downH5422[H8799] to fortifyH1219[H8763] the wallH2346. [10]And ye numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye broke down the houses to fortify the wall;
[11]Ye madeH6213[H8804] also a ditchH4724 between the two wallsH2346 for the waterH4325 of the oldH3465 poolH1295: but ye have not lookedH5027[H8689] unto the makerH6213[H8802] thereof, neither had respectH7200[H8804] unto him that fashionedH3335[H8802] it long agoH7350. [11]Ye made also a basin between the two walls for the water of the old pool—but ye looked not unto Him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto Him that fashioned it long ago.
[12]And in that dayH3117 did the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635 callH7121[H8799] to weepingH1065, and to mourningH4553, and to baldnessH7144, and to girdingH2296[H8800] with sackclothH8242: [12]And in that day did the Lord, the ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts, call to weeping, and to lamentation, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth;
[13]And behold joyH8342 and gladnessH8057, slayingH2026[H8800] oxenH1241, and killingH7819[H8800] sheepH6629, eatingH398[H8800] fleshH1320, and drinkingH8354[H8800] wineH3196: let us eatH398[H8800] and drinkH8354[H8800]; for to morrowH4279 we shall dieH4191.[H8799] [13]And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine—' Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die!'
[14]And it was revealedH1540[H8738] in mine earsH241 by the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, Surely this iniquityH5771 shall not be purgedH3722[H8792] from you till ye dieH4191[H8799], saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635. [14]And ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts revealed Himself in mine ears: Surely this iniquity shall not be expiated by you till ye die, saith the Lord, the ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts.
[15]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069 of hostsH6635, GoH3212[H8798], getH935[H8798] thee unto this treasurerH5532[H8802], even unto ShebnaH7644, which is over the house, and sayH1004, [15]Thus saith the Lord, the ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts: Go, get thee unto this steward, even unto Shebna, who is over the house:
[16]What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee outH2672[H8804] a sepulchreH6913 hereH6311, as he that heweth him outH2672[H8802] a sepulchreH6913 on highH4791, and that gravethH2710[H8802] an habitationH4908 for himself in a rockH5553? [16]What hast thou here, and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out here a sepulchre, thou that hewest thee out a sepulchre on high, and gravest a habitation for thyself in the rock?
[17]Behold, the LORDH3068 will carry thee awayH2904[H8772] with a mightyH1397 captivityH2925, and will surelyH5844[H8800] coverH5844 theeH8802. [17]Behold, ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ will hurl thee up and down with a man's throw; yea, He will wind thee round and round;
[18]He will surelyH6801[H8800] violently turnH6801[H8799] and tossH6802 thee like a ballH1754 into a largeH7342[H3027] countryH776: there shalt thou dieH4191[H8799], and there the chariotsH4818 of thy gloryH3519 shall be the shameH7036 of thy lord'sH113 houseH1004. [18]He will violently roll and toss thee like a ball into a large country; there shalt thou die, and there shall be the chariots of thy glory, thou shame of the lord's house.
[19]And I will driveH1920[H8804] thee from thy stationH4673, and from thy stateH4612 shall he pull thee downH2040.[H8799] [19]And I will thrust thee from thy post, and from thy station shalt thou be pulled down.
[20]And it shall come to pass in that dayH3117, that I will callH7121[H8804] my servantH5650 EliakimH471 the sonH1121 of HilkiahH2518: [20]And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah;
[21]And I will clotheH3847[H8689] him with thy robeH3801, and strengthenH2388[H8762] him with thy girdleH73, and I will commitH5414[H8799] thy governmentH4475 into his handH3027: and he shall be a fatherH1 to the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] of JerusalemH3389, and to the houseH1004 of JudahH3063. [21]And I will clothe him with thy robe, and bind him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
[22]And the keyH4668 of the houseH1004 of DavidH1732 will I layH5414[H8804] upon his shoulderH7926; so he shall openH6605[H8804], and none shall shutH5462[H8802]; and he shall shutH5462[H8804], and none shall openH6605.[H8802] [22]And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
[23]And I will fastenH8628[H8804] him as a nailH3489 in a sureH539[H8737] placeH4725; and he shall be for a gloriousH3519 throneH3678 to his father'sH1 houseH1004. [23]And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place; and he shall be for a throne of honour to his father's house.
[24]And they shall hangH8518[H8804] upon him all the gloryH3519 of his father'sH1 houseH1004, the offspringH6631 and the issueH6849, all vesselsH3627 of smallH6996 quantity, from the vesselsH3627 of cupsH101, even to all the vesselsH3627 of flagonsH5035. [24]And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups even to all the vessels of flagons.
[25]In that dayH3117, saithH5002[H8803] the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, shall the nailH3489 that is fastenedH8628[H8803] in the sureH539[H8737] placeH4725 be removedH4185[H8799], and be cut downH1438[H8738], and fallH5307[H8804]; and the burdenH4853 that was upon it shall be cut offH3772[H8738]: for the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696 itH8765. [25]In that day, saith ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ of hosts, shall the peg that was fastened in a sure place give way; and it shall be hewn down, and fall, and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for ‏𐤉𐤇𐤅𐤇‎ hath spoken it.
