| [1]And it came to pass a longH7227 timeH3117 afterH310 that the LORDH3068 had given restH5117[H8689] unto IsraelH3478 from all their enemiesH341[H8802] round aboutH5439, that JoshuaH3091 waxed oldH2204[H8804] and strickenH935[H8804] in ageH3117. |
[1]And a long season after that the Lord had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old, and stricken in age, |
| [2]And JoshuaH3091 calledH7121[H8799] for all IsraelH3478, and for their eldersH2205, and for their headsH7218, and for their judgesH8199[H8802], and for their officersH7860[H8802], and saidH559[H8799] unto them, I am oldH2204[H8804] and strickenH935[H8804] in ageH3117: |
[2]Then Joshua called all Israel, and their elders, and their heads, and their judges, and their officers, and said unto them, I am old, and stricken in age. |
| [3]And ye have seenH7200[H8804] all that the LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath doneH6213[H8804] unto all these nationsH1471 becauseH6440 of you; for the LORDH3068 your GodH430 is he that hath foughtH3898 for youH8737. |
[3]Also ye have seen all that the Lord your God hath done unto all these nations before you, how the Lord your God himself hath fought for you. |
| [4]BeholdH7200[H8798], I have dividedH5307[H8689] unto you by lot these nationsH1471 that remainH7604[H8737], to be an inheritanceH5159 for your tribesH7626, from JordanH3383, with all the nationsH1471 that I have cut offH3772[H8689], even unto the greatH1419 seaH3220 westwardH3996.[H8121] |
[4]Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be an inheritance according to your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have destroyed, even unto the great sea westward. |
| [5]And the LORDH3068 your GodH430, he shall expelH1920[H8799] them from beforeH6440 you, and driveH3423[H8689] them from out of your sightH6440; and ye shall possessH3423[H8804] their landH776, as the LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath promisedH1696 unto youH8765. |
[5]And the Lord your God shall expel them before you, and cast them out of your sight, and ye shall possess their land, as the Lord your God hath said unto you. |
| [6]Be ye therefore veryH3966 courageousH2388[H8804] to keepH8104[H8800] and to doH6213[H8800] all that is writtenH3789[H8803] in the bookH5612 of the lawH8451 of MosesH4872, that ye turnH5493[H8800] not aside therefrom to the right handH3225 or to the leftH8040; |
[6]Be ye therefore of a valiant courage, to observe and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not there from to the right hand nor to the left, |
| [7]That ye comeH935[H8800] not among these nationsH1471, these that remainH7604[H8737] among you; neither make mentionH2142[H8686] of the nameH8034 of their godsH430, nor cause to swearH7650[H8686] by them, neither serveH5647[H8799] them, nor bowH7812 yourselves unto themH8691: |
[7]Neither company with these nations: that is, with them which are left with you, neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them nor bow unto them: |
| [8]But cleaveH1692[H8799] unto the LORDH3068 your GodH430, as ye have doneH6213[H8804] unto this dayH3117. |
[8]But stick fast unto the Lord your God, as ye have done unto this day. |
| [9]For the LORDH3068 hath driven outH3423[H8686] from beforeH6440 you greatH1419 nationsH1471 and strongH6099: but as for you, no manH376 hath been able to standH5975[H8804] beforeH6440 you unto this dayH3117. |
[9]For the Lord hath cast out before you great nations and mighty, and no man hath stand before your face hitherto. |
| [10]OneH259 manH376 of you shall chaseH7291[H8799] a thousandH505: for the LORDH3068 your GodH430, he it is that fightethH3898[H8737] for you, as he hath promisedH1696 youH8765. |
[10]One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the Lord your God, he fighteth for you, as he hath promised you. |
| [11]Take goodH3966 heedH8104[H8738] therefore unto yourselvesH5315, that ye loveH157[H8800] the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[11]Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the Lord your God. |
| [12]Else if ye do in any wiseH7725[H8800] go backH7725[H8799], and cleaveH1692[H8804] unto the remnantH3499 of these nationsH1471, even these that remainH7604[H8737] among you, and shall make marriagesH2859[H8694] with them, and go inH935 unto them, and they to youH8804: |
[12]Else, if ye go back, and cleave unto the rest of these nations: that is, of them that remain with you, and shall make marriages with them, and go unto them, and they to you, |
| [13]KnowH3045[H8799] for a certaintyH3045[H8800] that the LORDH3068 your GodH430 will no moreH3254[H8686] drive outH3423[H8687] any of these nationsH1471 from beforeH6440 you; but they shall be snaresH6341 and trapsH4170 unto you, and scourgesH7850 in your sidesH6654, and thornsH6796 in your eyesH5869, until ye perishH6[H8800] from off this goodH2896 landH127 which the LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath givenH5414 youH8804. |
[13]Know ye for certain, that the Lord your God will cast out no more of these nations from before you: but they shall be a snare and destruction unto you, and a whip on your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish out of this good land, which the Lord your God hath given you. |
| [14]And, behold, this dayH3117 I am goingH1980[H8802] the wayH1870 of all the earthH776: and ye knowH3045[H8804] in all your heartsH3824 and in all your soulsH5315, that not oneH259 thingH1697 hath failedH5307[H8804] of all the goodH2896 thingsH1697 which the LORDH3068 your GodH430 spakeH1696[H8765] concerning you; all are come to passH935[H8804] unto you, and not oneH259 thingH1697 hath failedH5307 thereofH8804. |
[14]And behold, this day do I enter into the way of all the world, and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that nothing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God promised you, but all are come to pass unto you: nothing hath failed thereof. |
| [15]Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all goodH2896 thingsH1697 are comeH935[H8804] upon you, which the LORDH3068 your GodH430 promisedH1696[H8765] you; so shall the LORDH3068 bringH935[H8686] upon you all evilH7451 thingsH1697, until he have destroyedH8045[H8687] you from off this goodH2896 landH127 which the LORDH3068 your GodH430 hath givenH5414 youH8804. |
[15]Therefore as all good things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you, so shall the Lord bring upon you every evil thing, until he have destroyed you out of this good land, which the Lord your God hath given you. |
| [16]When ye have transgressedH5674[H8800] the covenantH1285 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430, which he commandedH6680[H8765] you, and have goneH1980[H8804] and servedH5647[H8804] otherH312 godsH430, and bowedH7812[H8694] yourselves to them; then shall the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 be kindledH2734[H8804] against you, and ye shall perishH6[H8804] quicklyH4120 from off the goodH2896 landH776 which he hath givenH5414 unto youH8804. |
[16]When ye shall transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and shall go and serve other gods, and bow yourselves to them, then shall the wrath of the Lord wax hot against you, and ye shall perish quickly out of the good land which he hath given you. |
