[1]AndG2532 it came to passG1096[G5633], that onG1722 oneG3391 of thoseG1565 daysG2250, as heG846 taughtG1321[G5723] the peopleG2992 inG1722 the templeG2411, andG2532 preached the gospelG2097[G5734], the chief priestsG749 andG2532 the scribesG1122 came uponG2186[G5627] him withG4862 the eldersG4245, |
[1]And it came to pass that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the Temple, and preached the Gospel, the high Priests and the Scribes came upon him with the Elders, |
[2]AndG2532 spakeG2036[G5627] untoG4314 himG846, sayingG3004[G5723], TellG2036[G5628] usG2254, byG1722 whatG4169 authorityG1849 doest thouG4160[G5719] these thingsG5023? orG2228 whoG5101 is heG2076[G5748] that gaveG1325[G5631] theeG4671 thisG5026 authorityG1849? |
[2]And spake unto him, saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is he that hath given thee this authority? |
[3]AndG1161 he answeredG611[G5679] and saidG2036[G5627] untoG4314 themG846, IG2504 willG2065 alsoG2504 askG2065[G5692] youG5209 oneG1520 thingG3056; andG2532 answerG2036[G5628] meG3427: |
[3]And he answered, and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing: tell me therefore: |
[4]The baptismG908 of JohnG2491, was itG2258[G5713] fromG1537 heavenG3772, orG2228 ofG1537 menG444? |
[4]The baptism of John was it from heaven, or of men? |
[5]AndG1161 they reasonedG4817[G5662] withG4314 themselvesG1438, sayingG3004[G5723],[G3754] IfG1437 we shall sayG2036[G5632], FromG1537 heavenG3772; he will sayG2046[G5692], WhyG1302 thenG3767 believed yeG4100[G5656] himG846 notG3756? |
[5]And they reasoned within themselves, saying, If we shall say from heaven, he will say, Why then believed ye him not? |
[6]But andG1161 ifG1437 we sayG2036[G5632], OfG1537 menG444; allG3956 the peopleG2992 will stoneG2642[G5692] usG2248: forG1063 they beG2076[G5748] persuadedG3982[G5772] that JohnG2491 wasG1511[G5750] a prophetG4396. |
[6]But if we shall say, Of men, all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a Prophet. |
[7]AndG2532 they answeredG611[G5662], that they couldG1492 notG3361 tellG1492[G5760] whence it wasG4159. |
[7]Therefore they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. |
[8]AndG2532 JesusG2424 saidG2036[G5627] unto themG846, NeitherG3761 tellG3004[G5719] IG1473 youG5213 byG1722 whatG4169 authorityG1849 I doG4160[G5719] these thingsG5023. |
[8]Then Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you, by what authority I do these things. |
[9]ThenG1161 began heG756[G5662] to speakG3004[G5721] toG4314 the peopleG2992 thisG5026 parableG3850; A certainG5100 manG444 plantedG5452[G5656] a vineyardG290, andG2532 letG1554 itG846 forthG1554[G5639] to husbandmenG1092, andG2532 went into a far countryG589[G5656] for a longG2425 timeG5550. |
[9]Â Then began he to speak to the people this parable, A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen: and went into a strange country, for a great season. |
[10]AndG2532 atG1722 the seasonG2540 he sentG649[G5656] a servantG1401 toG4314 the husbandmenG1092, thatG2443 they should giveG1325[G5632] himG846 ofG575 the fruitG2590 of the vineyardG290: butG1161 the husbandmenG1092 beatG1194[G5660] himG846, and sent him awayG1821[G5656] emptyG2756. |
[10]And at a time he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard, but the husbandmen did beat him, and sent him away empty. |
[11]AndG2532 againG4369[G5639] he sentG3992[G5658] anotherG2087 servantG1401: andG1161 they beatG1194[G5660] him alsoG2548, andG2532 entreated him shamefullyG818[G5660], and sent him awayG1821[G5656] emptyG2756. |
[11]Again he sent yet another servant: and they did beat him, and foul entreated him, and sent him away empty. |
[12]AndG2532 againG4369[G5639] he sentG3992[G5658] a thirdG5154: andG1161 they woundedG5135[G5660] himG5126 alsoG2532, and cast him outG1544.[G5627] |
[12]Moreover, he sent the third, and him they wounded, and cast out. |
[13]ThenG1161 saidG2036[G5627] the lordG2962 of the vineyardG290, WhatG5101 shall I doG4160[G5661]? I will sendG3992[G5692] myG3450 belovedG27 sonG5207: it may beG2481 they will reverenceG1788[G5691] him when they seeG1492[G5631] himG5126. |
[13]Then said the Lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be that they will do reverence, when they see him. |
[14]ButG1161 when the husbandmenG1092 sawG1492[G5631] himG846, they reasonedG1260[G5711] amongG4314 themselvesG1438, sayingG3004[G5723], ThisG3778 isG2076[G5748] the heirG2818: comeG1205[G5773], let us killG615[G5725] himG846, thatG2443 the inheritanceG2817 may beG1096[G5638] oursG2257. |
[14]But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned with themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. |
[15]SoG2532 they castG1544[G5631] himG846 out ofG1854 the vineyardG290, and killedG615[G5656] him. WhatG5101 thereforeG3767 shallG4160 the lordG2962 of the vineyardG290 doG4160[G5692] unto themG846? |
[15]So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What shall the Lord of the vineyard therefore do unto them? |
[16]He shall comeG2064[G5695] andG2532 destroyG622[G5692] theseG5128 husbandmenG1092, andG2532 shall giveG1325[G5692] the vineyardG290 to othersG243. AndG1161 when they heardG191[G5660] it, they saidG2036[G5627], God forbidG3361[G1096].[G5636] |
[16]He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give out his vineyard to others. But when they heard it, they said, God forbid. |
[17]AndG1161 he beheldG1689[G5660] themG846, and saidG2036[G5627], WhatG5101 isG2076[G5748] thisG5124 thenG3767 that is writtenG1125[G5772], The stoneG3037 whichG3739 the buildersG3618[G5723] rejectedG593[G5656], the sameG3778 is becomeG1096[G5675] the headG2776 ofG1519 the cornerG1137? |
[17]Â And he beheld them, and said, What meaneth this then that is written, The stone that the builders refused, that is made the head of the corner? |
[18]WhosoeverG3956 shall fallG4098[G5631] uponG1909 thatG1565 stoneG3037 shall be brokenG4917[G5701]; butG1161 onG1909 whomsoeverG3739[G302] it shall fallG4098[G5632], it will grindG3039 himG846 to powderG3039.[G5692] |
[18]Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken: and on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. |
[19]AndG2532 the chief priestsG749 andG2532 the scribesG1122 the sameG1722[G846] hourG5610 soughtG2212[G5656] to layG1911[G5629] handsG5495 onG1909 himG846; andG2532 they fearedG5399[G5675] the peopleG2992: forG1063 they perceivedG1097[G5627] thatG3754 he had spokenG2036[G5627] thisG5026 parableG3850 againstG4314 themG846. |
[19]Then the high Priests and the Scribes the same hour went about to lay hands on him: (but they feared the people) for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. |
[20]AndG2532 they watchedG3906[G5660] him, and sent forthG649[G5656] spiesG1455, which should feignG5271[G5740][G1511][G5750] themselvesG1438 just menG1342, thatG2443 they might take holdG1949[G5638] of hisG846 wordsG3056, that soG1519 they might deliverG3860[G5629] himG846 unto the powerG746 andG2532 authorityG1849 of the governorG2232. |
[20]And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, to take him in his talk, and to deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. |
[21]AndG2532 they askedG1905[G5656] himG846, sayingG3004[G5723], MasterG1320, we knowG1492[G5758] thatG3754 thou sayestG3004[G5719] andG2532 teachestG1321[G5719] rightlyG3723,[G2532] neitherG3756 acceptest thouG2983[G5719] the personG4383 of any, butG235 teachestG1321[G5719] the wayG3598 of GodG2316 trulyG225:[G1909] |
[21]And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest, and teachest right, neither dost thou accept man's person, but teachest the way of God truly . |
[22]Is it lawfulG1832[G5748] for usG2254 to giveG1325[G5629] tributeG5411 unto CaesarG2541, orG2228 noG3756? |
[22]Is it lawful for us to give Caesar tribute or no? |
[23]ButG1161 he perceivedG2657[G5660] theirG846 craftinessG3834, and saidG2036[G5627] untoG4314 themG846, WhyG5101 tempt yeG3985[G5719] meG3165? |
[23]But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? |
[24]ShewG1925[G5657] meG3427 a pennyG1220. WhoseG5101 imageG1504 andG2532 superscriptionG1923 hath itG2192[G5719]? They answeredG611[G5679] andG1161 saidG2036[G5627], Caesar'sG2541. |
[24]Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. |
[25]AndG1161 he saidG2036[G5627] unto themG846, RenderG591[G5628] thereforeG5106 unto CaesarG2541 the things which beG3588 Caesar'sG2541, andG2532 unto GodG2316 the things which beG3588 God'sG2316. |
[25]Then he said unto them, Give then unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God those which are God's. |
[26]AndG2532 they couldG2480[G5656] notG3756 take holdG1949[G5635] of hisG846 wordsG4487 beforeG1726 the peopleG2992: andG2532 they marvelledG2296[G5660] atG1909 hisG846 answerG612, and held their peaceG4601.[G5656] |
[26]And they could not reprove his saying before the people: but they marveled at his answer, and held their peace. |
[27]ThenG1161 cameG4334[G5631] to him certainG5100 of the SadduceesG4523, whichG3588 denyG483[G5723] that there isG1511[G5750] anyG3361 resurrectionG386; and they askedG1905[G5656] himG846, |
[27]Then came to him certain of the Sadducees (which deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him, |
[28]SayingG3004[G5723], MasterG1320, MosesG3475 wroteG1125[G5656] unto usG2254, IfG1437 any man'sG5100 brotherG80 dieG599[G5632], havingG2192[G5723] a wifeG1135, andG2532 heG3778 dieG599[G5632] without childrenG815, thatG2443 hisG846 brotherG80 should takeG2983[G5632] his wifeG1135, andG2532 raise upG1817[G5661] seedG4690 unto hisG846 brotherG80. |
[28]Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. |
[29]There wereG2258[G5713] thereforeG3767 sevenG2033 brethrenG80: andG2532 the firstG4413 tookG2983[G5631] a wifeG1135, and diedG599[G5627] without childrenG815. |
[29]Now there were seven brethren, and the first took a wife, and he died without children. |
[30]AndG2532 the secondG1208 tookG2983[G5627] her to wifeG1135, andG2532 heG3778 diedG599[G5627] childlessG815. |
[30]And the second took the wife, and he died childless. |
[31]AndG2532 the thirdG5154 tookG2983[G5627] herG846; andG1161 in like mannerG5615 the sevenG2033 alsoG2532: and they leftG2641[G5627] noG3756 childrenG5043, andG2532 diedG599.[G5627] |
[31]Then the third took her: and so likewise the seven died, and left no children. |
[32][G1161]LastG5305 of allG3956 the womanG1135 diedG599[G5627] alsoG2532. |
[32]And last of all, the woman died also. |
[33]ThereforeG3767 inG1722 the resurrectionG386 whoseG5101 wifeG1135 of themG846 is sheG1096[G5736]? forG1063 sevenG2033 hadG2192[G5627] herG846 to wifeG1135. |
[33]Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? For seven had her to wife. |
[34]AndG2532 JesusG2424 answeringG611[G5679] saidG2036[G5627] unto themG846, The childrenG5207 of thisG5127 worldG165 marryG1060[G5719], andG2532 are given in marriageG1548:[G5743] |
[34]Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, The children of this world marry wives and are married. |
[35]ButG1161 they which shall be accounted worthyG2661[G5685] to obtainG5177[G5629] thatG1565 worldG165, andG2532 the resurrectionG386 fromG1537 the deadG3498, neitherG3777 marryG1060[G5719], norG3777 are given in marriageG1548:[G5743] |
[35]But they which shall be counted worthy to enjoy that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry wives, neither are married. |
[36]NeitherG3777[G1063] canG1410[G5736] they dieG599[G5629] any moreG2089: forG1063 they areG1526[G5748] equal unto the angelsG2465; andG2532 areG1526[G5748] the childrenG5207 of GodG2316, beingG5607[G5752] the childrenG5207 of the resurrectionG386. |
[36]For they can die no more, forasmuch as they are equal unto the Angels, and are the sons of God, since they are the children of the resurrection. |
[37]NowG1161 thatG3754 the deadG3498 are raisedG1453[G5743], evenG2532 MosesG3475 shewedG3377[G5656] atG1909 the bushG942, whenG5613 he callethG3004[G5719] the LordG2962 the GodG2316 of AbrahamG11, andG2532 the GodG2316 of IsaacG2464, andG2532 the GodG2316 of JacobG2384. |
[37]And that the dead shall rise again, even Moses showed it besides the bush, when he said, The Lord is the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. |
[38]ForG1161 he isG2076[G5748] notG3756 a GodG2316 of the deadG3498, butG235 of the livingG2198[G5723]: forG1063 allG3956 liveG2198[G5719] unto himG846. |
[38]For he is not the God of the dead, but of them which live: for all live unto him. |
[39]ThenG1161 certainG5100 of the scribesG1122 answeringG611[G5679] saidG2036[G5627], MasterG1320, thou hast wellG2573 saidG2036.[G5627] |
[39]Then certain of the Pharisees answered and said, Master, thou hast well said. |
[40]AndG1161 after thatG3765 they durstG5111[G5707] notG3765 askG1905[G5721] himG846 any question at allG3762. |
[40]And after that, durst they not ask him any thing at all. |
[41]AndG1161 he saidG2036[G5627] untoG4314 themG846, HowG4459 sayG3004[G5719] they that ChristG5547 isG1511[G5750] David'sG1138 sonG5207? |
[41]Â Then said he unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? |
[42]AndG2532 DavidG1138 himselfG846 saithG3004[G5719] inG1722 the bookG976 of PsalmsG5568, The LORDG2962 saidG2036[G5627] unto myG3450 LordG2962, Sit thouG2521[G5737] onG1537 myG3450 right handG1188, |
[42]And David himself saith in the book of the Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, sit at my right hand, |
[43]TillG2193[G302] I makeG5087[G5632] thineG4675 enemiesG2190 thyG4675 footstoolG4228.[G5286] |
[43]Till I shall make thine enemies thy footstool. |
[44]DavidG1138 thereforeG3767 callethG2564[G5719] himG846 LordG2962, howG4459 is heG2076[G5748] thenG2532 hisG846 sonG5207? |
[44]Seeing David calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? |
[45]ThenG1161 in the audienceG191[G5723] of allG3956 the peopleG2992 he saidG2036[G5627] unto hisG846 disciplesG3101, |
[45]Â Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, |
[46]BewareG4337[G5720] ofG575 the scribesG1122, whichG3588 desireG2309[G5723] to walkG4043[G5721] inG1722 long robesG4749, andG2532 loveG5368[G5723] greetingsG783 inG1722 the marketsG58, andG2532 the highest seatsG4410 inG1722 the synagoguesG4864, andG2532 the chief roomsG4411 atG1722 feastsG1173; |
[46]Beware of the Scribes, which desire to go in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the highest seats in the Synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts: |
[47]WhichG3739 devourG2719[G5719] widows'G5503 housesG3614, andG2532 for a shewG4392 makeG4336 longG3117 prayersG4336[G5736]: the sameG3778 shall receiveG2983[G5695] greaterG4055 damnationG2917. |
[47]Which devour widow's houses, even under a color of long praying: these shall receive greater damnation. |
