[1]וקמו כלה כנשׁהונ ואיתיוהי לות פילטוס [1]THEN the whole company of them rose up, and brought him to Pilate;
[2]ושׁריו אכלינ קרצוהי ואמרינ להנא אשׁכחנ דמטעא עמנ וכלא דכספ רשׁא לקסר לא נתל ואמר על נפשׁה דמלכא הו משׁיחא [2]And began to accuse him, saying, We found this man misleading our people, and forbidding to pay the head-tax to Caesar; and he says concerning himself that he is a King, even the Christ.
[3]פילטוס דינ שׁאלה ואמר לה אנת הו מלכא דיהודיא אמר לה אנת אמרת [3]Pilate asked him and said, Are you the king of the Jews? He said to him, You say that.
[4]ואמר פילטוס לרבי כהנא ולכנשׁא אנא מדמ עלתא לא משׁכח אנא על גברא הנא [4]Then Pilate said to the high priests and the people, I cannot find any fault against this man.
[5]הנונ דינ מזעקינ הוו ואמרינ דשׁגשׁה לעמנ כד מלפ בכלה יהוד ושׁרי מנ גלילא ועדמא להרכא [5]But they shouted and said, He has stirred up our people, teaching throughout Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even to this place.
[6]פילטוס דינ כד שׁמע שׁמא דגלילא שׁאל דאנ גברא הו גליליא [6]When Pilate heard the name Galilee, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
[7]וכד ידע דמנ תחית שׁולטנא הו דהרודס שׁדרה לותה דהרודס מטל דבאורשׁלמ הוא בהנונ יומתא [7]And when he knew that he was under the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent him to Herod, because he was in Jerusalem in those days.
[8]הרודס דינ כד חזיהי לישׁוע חדי טב צבא הוא גיר למחזיה מנ זבנא סגיאא מטל דשׁמע הוא עלוהי סגיאתא ומסבר הוא דמדמ אתא נחזא מנה [8]When Herod saw Jesus he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things concerning him; and he hoped to see some miracle by him.
[9]ומלא סגיאתא משׁאל הוא לה ישׁוע דינ מדמ פתגמא לא אתיבה [9]And he asked him many words; but Jesus gave him no answer.
[10]קימינ הוו דינ רבי כהנא וספרא ועזיזאית אכלינ הוו קרצוהי [10]But the high priests and the scribes stood, and accused him bitterly.
[11]הרודס דינ שׁטה הו ופלחוהי וכד מבזח אלבשׁה נחתא דזחוריתא ושׁדרה לות פילטוס [11]And Herod and his soldiers insulted him, and mocked him, and dressed him in a scarlet robe, and sent him to Pilate.
[12]ובהו יומא הוו רחמא פילטוס והרודס עמ חדדא בעלדבבותא הות גיר מנ קדימ בינתהונ [12]And that day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other; for there was a longstanding enmity between them.
[13]קרא דינ פילטוס לרבי כהנא ולארכונא ולעמא [13]Then Pilate called the high priests and the leaders of the people,
[14]ואמר להונ קרבתונ לי גברא הנא איכ מהפכ עמכונ והא אנא עקבתה לעניכונ ועלתא מדמ לא אשׁכחת בגברא הנא מנ כל דמרשׁינ אנתונ בה [14]And he said to them, You brought me this man, as if he were misleading your people; and behold, I have examined him before your own eyes, and I have found no fault in this man concerning all that you accuse him.
[15]אלא אפלא הרודס שׁדרתה גיר לותה והא לא מדמ דשׁוא למותא סעיר לה [15]Not even has Herod; for I sent him to him; and behold, he has done nothing worthy of death.
[16]ארדיוהי הכיל ואשׁבקיוהי [16]I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
[17]עידא גיר אית הוא דנשׁרא להונ חד בעדעדא [17]For there was a custom to release to them one at the feast.
[18]קעו דינ כלה כנשׁא ואמרינ שׁקוליהי להנא ושׁרי לנ לבר-אבא [18]But all the people cried out saying, Get rid of him, and release to us Bar-Abbas;
[19]הו אינא דמטל אסטסיס דהות במדינתא וקטלא רמא הוא בית אסירא [19]Who because of sedition and murder which had happened in the city, was cast into prison.
[20]תוב דינ מלל עמהונ פילטוס כד צבא דנשׁרא לישׁוע [20]Again Pilate spoke to them, desiring to release Jesus.
[21]הנונ דינ קעינ הוו ואמרינ זקופיהי זקופיהי [21]But they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
[22]הו דינ דתלת זבנינ אמר להונ מנא גיר דבישׁ עבד הנא מדמ עלתא דשׁויא למותא לא אשׁכחת בה ארדיוהי הכיל ואשׁבקיוהי [22]And he said to them the third time, What evil has he done? I have found nothing in him, worthy of death; I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
[23]הנונ דינ תכבינ הוו בקלא רמא ושׁאלינ הוו לה דנזקפוניהי ועשׁנ הוא קלהונ דילהונ ודרבי כהנא [23]But they persisted with loud voices, and asked to crucify him. And their voice and that of the high priests prevailed.
[24]פילטוס דינ פקד דתהוא שׁאלתהונ [24]Then Pilate commanded to have their request granted.
[25]ושׁרא להונ להו דמטל אסטסיס וקטלא רמא הוא בית אסירא הו דשׁאלו לישׁוע דינ אשׁלמ לצבינהונ [25]So he released to them the one who because of sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they asked for; and he delivered Jesus to their will.
[26]וכד מובלינ לה אחדו לשׁמעונ קוריניא דאתא מנ קריתא וסמו עלוהי זקיפא דנטענ בתרה דישׁוע [26]And while they took him away, they laid hold of Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming from the field, and they placed the end of the cross on him, to carry it with Jesus.
[27]ואתא הוא בתרה סוגאא דעמא ונשׁא אילינ דמרקדנ הוי ואלינ עלוהי [27]And many people followed him, and the women who were mourning and wailing over him.
[28]ואתפני ישׁוע לותהינ ואמר בנת אורשׁלמ לא תבכינ עלי ברמ על נפשׁכינ בכיינ ועל בניכינ [28]But Jesus turned to them and said, O daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me; but weep over yourselves, and over your own children.
[29]דהא אתינ יומתא דבהונ נאמרונ טוביהינ לעקרתא ולכרסתא דלא ילד ולתדיא דלא אינקו [29]For behold, the days are coming, in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never gave birth, and the breasts that never gave suck.
[30]הידינ תשׁרונ למאמר לטורא דפלו עלינ ולרמתא דכסיננ [30]Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
[31]דאנ בקיסא רטיבא הלינ עבדינ ביבישׁא מנא נהוא [31]For if they do these things with the green wood, what will be done with dry wood?
[32]ואתינ הוו עמה תרינ אחרנינ עבדי בישׁתא דנתקטלונ [32]And there were coming with him two others, malefactors, to be put to death.
[33]וכד אתו לדוכתא חדא דמתקריא קרקפתא זקפוהי תמנ ולהנונ עבדי בישׁתא חד מנ ימינה וחד מנ סמלה [33]And when they came to a place which is called The Skull, they crucified him there, and the malefactors, one on his right and one on his left.
[34]הו דינ ישׁוע אמר הוא אבא שׁבוק להונ לא גיר ידעינ מנא עבדינ ופלגו נחתוהי וארמיו עליהונ פסא [34]And Jesus said, O Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. And they divided his garments and cast lots over them.
[35]קאמ הוא דינ עמא וחזא וממיקינ הוו בה אפ ארכונא ואמרינ לאחרנא אחי נחא נפשׁה אנ הויו משׁיחא גביה דאלהא [35]The people stood looking on. And even the leaders of the synagogue mocked him, and said, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ, the chosen one of God.
[36]ומבזחינ הוו בה אפ אסטרטיוטא כד קרבינ לותה ומקרבינ לה חלא [36]And the soldiers ridiculed him, as they came near him and offered him vinegar,
[37]ואמרינ לה אנ אנת הו מלכא דיהודיא אחא נפשׁכ [37]Saying to him, If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.
[38]אית הוא דינ אפ כתבא דכתיב לעל מנה יונאית ורהומאית ועבראית הנו מלכא דיהודיא [38]There was also an inscription which was written over him, in Greek and Roman, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
[39]חד דינ מנ הנונ עבדי בישׁתא דצליבינ הוו עמה מגדפ הוא עלוהי ואמר אנ אנת הו משׁיחא פצא נפשׁכ ופצא אפ לנ [39]Now one of the malefactors who were crucified with him, blasphemed against him, saying, If you are the Christ, save yourself and save us also.
[40]וכאא בה חברה ואמר לה אפ לא מנ אלהא דחל אנת דאפ אנת בה אנת בדינא [40]But the other rebuked him, and said to him, Do you not fear even God, for you are also in the same judgment?
[41]וחננ כאנאית איכ דשׁוינ הוינ גיר ואיכ דעבדנ אתפרענ הנא דינ מדמ דסנא לא עביד לה [41]And ours is just, for we are paid as we deserve and as we have done; but he has done nothing wrong.
[42]ואמר לישׁוע אתדכריני מרי מא דאתא אנת במלכותכ [42]And he said to Jesus, Remember me, my Lord, when you come in your kingdom.
[43]אמר לה ישׁוע אמינ אמר אנא לכ דיומנא עמי תהוא בפרדיסא [43]Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you today, you will be with me in Paradise.
[44]אית הוי דינ איכ שׁעא שׁת והוא חשׁוכא על כלה ארעא עדמא לתשׁע שׁעינ [44]Now it was about the sixth hour, and darkness fell upon the whole earth, until the ninth hour.
[45]ושׁמשׁא חשׁכ ואצטרי אפי תרעא דהיכלא מנ מצעתה [45]And the sun was darkened, and the door curtains of the temple were torn in the center.
[46]וקעא ישׁוע בקלא רמא ואמר אבי באידיכ סאמ אנא רוחי הדא אמר ושׁלמ [46]Then Jesus cried with a loud voice and said, O my Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. He said this and passed away.
[47]כד חזא דינ קנטרונא מדמ דהוא שׁבח לאלהא ואמר שׁריראית הנא גברא זדיקא הוא [47]When the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God and said, Truly this was a righteous man.
[48]וכלהונ כנשׁא אילינ דכנישׁינ הוו לחזתא הדא כד חזו מדמ דהוא הפכו כד טרפינ על חדיהונ [48]And all the people who were gathered together to see this sight, when they saw what had happened, returned, beating their breasts.
[49]וקימינ הוו מנ רוחקא כלהונ ידועוהי דישׁוע ונשׁא אילינ דאתי הוי עמה מנ גלילא וחזינ הוו הלינ [49]And all the acquaintances of Jesus stood afar off, and the women who had come with him from Galilee, and they were beholding these things.
[50]גברא דינ חד דשׁמה יוספ בולוטא מנ רמתא מדינתא דיהוד גברא הוא טבא וזדיקא [50]There was a man named Joseph the counsellor of Arimathaea, a city of Judaea, a good and righteous man.
[51]הנא לא שׁלמ הוא לצבינהונ ולסוערנהונ ומסכא הוא למלכותא דאלהא [51]He did not agree with their wishes and their actions; and he waited for the kingdom of God.
[52]הנא קרב לות פילטוס ושׁאל פגרה דישׁוע [52]He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
[53]ואחתה וכרכה בחיצא דכתנא וסמה בבית קבורא נקירא הו דלא אנשׁ עדכיל אתתסימ הוא בה [53]And he took it down and wrapped it in fine linen, and laid it in a hewn tomb, in which no one was ever laid.
[54]ויומא ערובתא הות ושׁבתא נגהא הות [54]This was a Friday, and the sabbath was approaching.
[55]קריבנ הוי דינ נשׁא הלינ דאתי עמה מנ גלילא וחזייהי לקברא ואיכנא אתתסימ פגרה [55]The women who had come with him from Galilee were near, and they saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.
[56]והפכ טיב הרומא ובסמא ובשׁבתא שׁלי איכ דפקיד [56]And they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the sabbath they rested, as it is commanded.
