| [1]בשׁנת חמשׁעסרא דינ דמלכותה דטבריוס קסר בהגמונותא דפנטיוס-פילטוס ביהוד כד רשׁא רביעיא הרודס בגלילא ופיליפוס אחוהי רשׁא רביעיא באיטוריא ובאתרא דטרכונא ולוסניא רשׁא רביעיא דאבילינא |
[1]Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being Tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip Tetrarch of Ituraea, and of the country of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the Tetrarch of Galilee, |
| [2]ברבות כהנותא דחננ ודקיפא הות מלתא דאלהא על יוחננ בר זכריא בחורבא |
[2](When Annas and Caiaphas were the high Priests) the word of God came unto John, the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. |
| [3]ואתא בכלה אתרא דחדרי יורדננ כד מכרז מעמודיתא דתיבותא לשׁובקנא דחטהא |
[3]And he came into all the coasts about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins, |
| [4]איכנא דכתיב בכתבא דמלא דאשׁעיא נביא דאמר קלא דקרא בחורבא טיבו אורחה דמריא ותרוצו בפקעתא שׁבילא לאלהנ |
[4]As it is written in the book of the sayings of Isaiah the Prophet, which saith, The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness is, Prepare ye the way of the Lord: make his paths straight. |
| [5]כלהונ נחלא נתמלונ וכלהונ טורא ורמתא נתמככונ ונהוא ערמא לשׁפיא ואתרא עסקא לפקעתא |
[5]Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and crooked things shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth. |
| [6]ונחזא כל בסר חיא דאלהא |
[6]And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. |
| [7]ואמר הוא לכנשׁא אילינ דאתינ הוו לותה למעמד ילדא דאכדנא מנו חויכונ למערק מנ רוגזא דעתיד |
[7]Then said he to the people that were come out to be baptized of him, O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the wrath to come? |
| [8]עבדו הכיל פארא דשׁוינ לתיבותא ולא תשׁרונ למאמר בנפשׁכונ דאבא אית לנ אברהמ אמר אנא לכונ גיר דמנ הלינ כאפא משׁכח אלהא למקמו בניא לאברהמ |
[8]Bring forth therefore fruits worthy amendment of life, and begin not to say with yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. |
| [9]הא דינ נרגא סימ על עקרא דאילנא כל אילנא הכיל דפארא טבא לא עבד מתפסק ובנורא נפל |
[9]Now also is the ax laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be hewn down and cast into the fire. |
| [10]ומשׁאלינ הוו לה כנשׁא ואמרינ מנא הכיל נעבד |
[10] Then the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? |
| [11]ענא ואמר להונ מנ דאית לה תרתינ כותינינ נתל למנ דלית לה ומנ דאית לה סיברתא הכנא נעבד |
[11]And he answered, and said unto them, He that hath two coats, let him part with him that hath none: and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. |
| [12]ואתו אפ מכסא למעמד ואמרינ לה מלפנא מנא נעבד |
[12]Then came their Publicans also to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? |
| [13]הו דינ אמר להונ לא תתבעונ מדמ יתיר על מא דפקיד לכונ למתבע |
[13]And he said unto them, Require no more than that which is appointed unto you. |
| [14]ומשׁאלינ הוו לה פלחי אסטרטיא ואמרינ מנא נעבד אפ חננ אמר להונ לא באנשׁ תתטגרונ ולאנשׁ לא תעשׁקונ ונספקנ לכונ אפסוניתכונ |
[14]The soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, and what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages. |
| [15]כד דינ מסבר הוא עמא על יוחננ וכלהונ מתחשׁבינ הוו בלבהונ דדלמא הויו משׁיחא |
[15]As the people waited, and all men mused in their hearts of John, if he were not the Christ, |
| [16]ענא יוחננ ואמר להונ אנא הא מעמד אנא לכונ במיא אתא דינ בתרי הו דחילתנ מני הו דלא שׁוא אנא דאשׁרא ערקא דמסנוהי הו נעמדכונ ברוחא דקודשׁא ובנורא |
[16]John answered, and said to them all, Indeed I baptize you with water, but one stronger than I, cometh, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to unloose: he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. |
| [17]הו דאחיד רפשׁא באידה ומדכא אדרוהי וחטא כנשׁ לאוצרוהי ותבנא נוקד בנורא דלא דעכא |
[17]Whose fan is in his hand, and he will make clean his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff will he burn up with fire that never shall be quenched. |
| [18]אפ אחרניתא דינ סגיאתא מלפ הוא ומסבר לעמא |
[18]Thus then exhorting with many other things, he preached unto the people. |
| [19]הרודס דינ טטררכא מטל דמתכסס הוא מנ יוחננ על הרודיא אנתת פיליפוס אחוהי ועל כלהינ בישׁתא דעבד הוא |
[19]But when Herod the Tetrarch was rebuked of him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done, |
| [20]אוספ אפ הדא על כלהינ וחבשׁה ליוחננ בית אסירא |
[20]He added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison. |
| [21]הוא דינ כד עמדו כלה עמא ואפ ישׁוע עמד וכד מצלא אתפתחו שׁמיא |
[21]Now it came to pass, as all the people were baptized, and that Jesus was baptized and did pray, that the heaven was opened: |
| [22]ונחתת רוחא דקודשׁא עלוהי בדמות גושׁמא דיונא וקלא הוא מנ שׁמיא דאמר אנת הו ברי חביבא בכ אצטבית |
[22]And the Holy Ghost came down in a bodily shape like a dove, upon him, and there was a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son: in thee I am well pleased. |
| [23]הו דינ ישׁוע איתוהי הוא איכ בר שׁנינ תלתינ ומסתבר הוא בר יוספ בר הלי |
[23] And Jesus himself began to be about thirty year of age, being as men supposed the son of Joseph, which was the son of Eli, |
| [24]בר מטתת בר לוי בר מלכי בר יאני בר יוספ |
[24]The son of Matthan, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, |
| [25]בר מתתא בר עמוץ בר נחומ בר חסלי בר נגי |
[25]The son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Hesli, the son of Naggai, |
| [26]בר מאת בר מטת בר שׁמעי בר יוספ בר יהודא |
[26]The son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, |
| [27]בר יוחננ בר רסא בר זורבבל בר שׁלתאיל בר נרי |
[27]The son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri, |
| [28]בר מלכי בר אדי בר קוסמ בר אלמודד בר עיר |
[28]The son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er, |
| [29]בר יוסא בר אליעזר בר יורמ בר מתיתא בר לוי |
[29] The son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthan, the son of Levi, |
| [30]בר שׁמעונ בר יהודא בר יוספ בר יונמ בר אליקימ |
[30]The son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim, |
| [31]בר מליא בר מאני בר מטתא בר נתנ בר דויד |
[31]The son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David, |
| [32]בר אישׁי בר עוביד בר בעז בר סלמונ בר נחשׁונ |
[32]The son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon, |
| [33]בר עמינדב בר ארמ בר חצרונ בר פרץ בר יהודא |
[33]The son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Herzen, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, |
| [34]בר יעקוב בר איסחק בר אברהמ בר תרח בר נחור |
[34]The son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, |
| [35]בר סרוג בר ארעו בר פלג בר עבר בר שׁלח |
[35]The son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah, |
| [36]בר קיננ בר ארפכשׁר בר שׁימ בר נוח בר למכ |
[36]The son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, |
| [37]בר מתושׁלח בר חנוכ בר ירד בר מהללאיל בר קיננ |
[37]The son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, |
| [38]בר אנושׁ בר שׁית בר אדמ דמנ אלהא |
[38]The son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God. |
