| [1]Καὶ εὐθέως ἐπὶ τὸ πρωῒ συμβούλιον ποιήσαντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς μετὰ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον, δήσαντες τὸν ᾿Ιησοῦν ἀπήνεγκαν καὶ παρέδωκαν τῷ Πιλάτῳ. |
[1]And anon in the dawning, the high Priests held a Council with the Elders, and the Scribes, and the whole Council, and bound Jesus, and led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. |
| [2]καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ Πιλᾶτος· σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων; ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· σὺ λέγεις. |
[2]Then Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered, and said unto him, Thou sayest it. |
| [3]καὶ κατηγόρουν αὐτοῦ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς πολλά, αὐτὸς δὲ οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο. |
[3]And the high Priests accused him of many things. |
| [4]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος πάλιν ἐπηρώτα αὐτὸν λέγων· οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδέν; ἴδε πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν. |
[4]Wherefore Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee. |
| [5]ὁ δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦς οὐκέτι οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίθη, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν Πιλᾶτον. |
[5]But Jesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marveled. |
| [6]Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν ἀπέλυεν αὐτοῖς ἕνα δέσμιον, ὅνπερ ᾐτοῦντο. |
[6]Now at the feast Pilate did deliver a prisoner unto them, whomsoever they would desire. |
| [7]ἦν δὲ ὁ λεγόμενος Βαραββᾶς μετὰ τῶν συστασιαστῶν δεδεμένος, οἵτινες ἐν τῇ στάσει φόνον πεποιήκεισαν. |
[7]Then there was one named Barabbas, which was bound with his fellows, that had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murder. |
| [8]καὶ ἀναβοήσας ὁ ὄχλος ἤρξατο αἰτεῖσθαι καθὼς ἀεὶ ἐποίει αὐτοῖς. |
[8]And the people cried aloud, and began to desire that he would do as he had ever done unto them. |
| [9]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς λέγων· θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν τὸν βασιλέα τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων; |
[9]Then Pilate answered them, and said, Will ye that I let loose unto you the King of the Jews? |
| [10]ἐγίνωσκε γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παραδεδώκεισαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς. |
[10]For he knew that the high Priests had delivered him of envy. |
| [11]οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς ἀνέσεισαν τὸν ὄχλον ἵνα μᾶλλον τὸν Βαραββᾶν ἀπολύσῃ αὐτοῖς. |
[11]But the high Priests had moved the people to desire that he would rather deliver Barabbas unto them. |
| [12]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἀποκριθεὶς πάλιν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· τί οὖν θέλετε ποιήσω ὃν λέγετε τὸν βασιλέα τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων; |
[12]And Pilate answered, and said again unto them, What will ye then that I do with him, whom ye call the King of the Jews? |
| [13]οἱ δὲ πάλιν ἔκραξαν· σταύρωσον αὐτόν. |
[13]And they cried again, Crucify him. |
| [14]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· τί γὰρ ἐποίησε κακόν; οἱ δὲ περισσοτέρως ἔκραξαν· σταύρωσον αὐτόν. |
[14]Then Pilate said unto them, But what evil hath he done? And they cried the more fervently, Crucify him. |
| [15]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος βουλόμενος τῷ ὄχλῳ τὸ ἱκανὸν ποιῆσαι, ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, καὶ παρέδωκε τὸν ᾿Ιησοῦν φραγελλώσας ἵνα σταυρωθῇ. |
[15]So Pilate willing to content the people, loosed them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified. |
| [16]Οἱ δὲ στρατιῶται ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν ἔσω τῆς αὐλῆς, ὅ ἐστι πραιτώριον, καὶ συγκαλοῦσιν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν· |
[16]Then the soldiers led him away into the hall, which is the common hall, and called together the whole band, |
| [17]καὶ ἐνδύουσιν αὐτὸν πορφύραν καὶ περιτιθέασιν αὐτῷ πλέξαντες ἀκάνθινον στέφανον, |
[17]And clad him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, |
| [18]καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀσπάζεσθαι αὐτόν. χαῖρε ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων· |
[18]And began to salute him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews. |
| [19]καὶ ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν καλάμῳ καὶ ἐνέπτυον αὐτῷ, καὶ τιθέντες τὰ γόνατα προσεκύνουν αὐτῷ. |
[19]And they smote him on the head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowed the knees, and did him reverence. |
| [20]καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν πορφύραν καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια τὰ ἴδια, καὶ ἐξάγουσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα σταυρώσωσιν αὐτόν. |
[20]And when they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him. |
| [21]Καὶ ἀγγαρεύουσι παράγοντά τινα Σίμωνα Κυρηναῖον, ἐρχόμενον ἀπ᾿ ἀγροῦ, τὸν πατέρα ᾿Αλεξάνδρου καὶ ῾Ρούφου, ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ. |
[21]And they compelled one that passed by, called Simon of Cyrene (which came out of the country, and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to bear his cross. |
| [22]Καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ Γολγοθᾶ τόπον, ὅ ἐστι μεθερμηνευόμενον κρανίου τόπος. |
[22]And they brought him to a place named Golgotha, which is by interpretation, the place of dead mens skulls. |
| [23]καὶ ἐδίδουν αὐτῷ πιεῖν ἐσμυρνισμένον οἶνον· ὁ δὲ οὐκ ἔλαβε. |
[23]And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. |
| [24]καὶ σταυρώσαντες αὐτὸν διαμερίζονται τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον ἐπ᾿ αὐτὰ τίς τί ἄρῃ. |
[24]And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots for them, what every man should have. |
| [25]ἦν δὲ ὥρα τρίτη καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν. |
[25]And it was the third hour, when they crucified him. |
| [26]καὶ ἦν ἡ ἐπιγραφὴ τῆς αἰτίας αὐτοῦ ἐπιγεγραμμένη· ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων. |
[26]And the title of his cause was written above, THE KING OF THE JEWS. |
| [27]Καὶ σὺν αὐτῷ σταυροῦσι δύο λῃστάς, ἕνα ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ ἕνα ἐξ εὐωνύμων αὐτοῦ. |
[27]They crucified also with him two thieves, the one on the right hand, and the other on his left. |
| [28]καὶ ἐπληρώθη ἡ γραφὴ ἡ λέγουσα· καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη. |
[28]Thus the Scripture was fulfilled, which says, And he was counted among the wicked. |
| [29]Καὶ οἱ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν καὶ λέγοντες· οὐά, ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν! |
[29]And they that went by, railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Hey, thou that destroyest the Temple, and buildest it in three days, |
| [30]σῶσον σεαυτὸν καὶ κατάβα ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ. |
[30]Save thyself, and come down from the cross. |
| [31]ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων ἔλεγον· ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι. |
[31]Likewise also even the high Priests mocking, said among themselves with the Scribes, He saved other men, himself he cannot save. |
| [32]ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ ᾿Ισραὴλ καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ, ἵνα ἴδωμεν καὶ πιστεύσωμεν αὐτῷ. καὶ οἱ συνεσταυρωμένοι αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν. |
[32]Let Christ the King of Israel now come down from the cross, that we may see, and believe. They also that were crucified with him, reviled him. |
| [33]Γενομένης δὲ ὥρας ἕκτης σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ᾿ ὅλην τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης· |
[33]Now when the sixth hour was come, darkness arose over all the land until the ninth hour. |
| [34]καὶ τῇ ὥρᾳ τῇ ἐνάτῃ ἐβόησεν ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων· ᾿Ελωῒ ᾿Ελωΐ, λιμᾶ σαβαχθανί; ὅ ἐστι μεθερμηνευόμενον, ὁ Θεός μου ὁ Θεός μου, εἰς τί με ἐγκατέλιπες; |
[34]And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is by interpretation, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? |
| [35]καί τινες τῶν παρεστηκότων ἀκούσαντες ἔλεγον· ἴδε ᾿Ηλίαν φωνεῖ. |
[35]And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elijah. |
| [36]δραμὼν δὲ εἷς καὶ γεμίσας σπόγγον ὄξους περιθείς τε καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτὸν λέγων· ἄφετε ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται ᾿Ηλίας καθελεῖν αὐτόν. |
[36]And one ran, and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let him alone: let us see if Elijah will come and take him down. |
| [37]ὁ δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦς ἀφεὶς φωνὴν μεγάλην ἐξέπνευσε. |
[37]And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. |
| [38]Καὶ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο ἀπὸ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω. |
[38]And the vail of the Temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom. |
| [39]᾿Ιδὼν δὲ ὁ κεντυρίων ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐξ ἐναντίας αὐτοῦ ὅτι οὕτω κράξας ἐξέπνευσεν, εἶπεν· ἀληθῶς ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος υἱὸς ἦν Θεοῦ. |
[39]Now when the Centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he thus crying gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. |
| [40]῏Ησαν δὲ καὶ γυναῖκες ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, ἐν αἷς ἦν καὶ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ ᾿Ιακώβου τοῦ μικροῦ καὶ ᾿Ιωσῆ μήτηρ, καὶ Σαλώμη, |
[40]There were also women, which beheld afar off, among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary (the mother of James the Less, and of Joseph) and Salome, |
| [41]αἳ καὶ ὅτε ἦν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ ἠκολούθουν αὐτῷ καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἄλλαι πολλαὶ αἱ συναναβᾶσαι αὐτῷ εἰς ῾Ιεροσόλυμα. |
[41]Which also when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered unto him, and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem. |
| [42]Καὶ ἤδη ὀψίας γενομένης, ἐπεὶ ἦν παρασκευή, ὅ ἐστι προσάββατον, |
[42]And now when night was come (because it was the day of the preparation that is before the Sabbath) |
| [43]ἐλθὼν ᾿Ιωσὴφ ὁ ἀπὸ ᾿Αριμαθαίας, εὐσχήμων βουλευτής, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν προσδεχόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ, τολμήσας εἰσῆλθε πρὸς Πιλᾶτον καὶ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ᾿Ιησοῦ. |
[43]Joseph of Arimathea, an honorable Counselor, which also looked for the Kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. |
| [44]ὁ δὲ Πιλᾶτος ἐθαύμασεν εἰ ἤδη τέθνηκε, καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν κεντυρίωνα ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν εἰ πάλαι ἀπέθανε· |
[44]And Pilate marveled, if he were already dead, and called unto him the Centurion, and asked of him whether he had been any while dead. |
| [45]καὶ γνοὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ κεντυρίωνος ἐδωρήσατο τὸ σῶμα τῷ ᾿Ιωσήφ. |
[45]And when he knew the truth of the Centurion, he gave the body to Joseph, |
| [46]καὶ ἀγοράσας σινδόνα καὶ καθελὼν αὐτὸν ἐνείλησε τῇ σινδόνι καὶ κατέθηκεν αὐτὸν ἐν μνημείῳ, ὃ ἦν λελατομημένον ἐκ πέτρας, καὶ προσεκύλισε λίθον ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τοῦ μνημείου. |
[46]Who bought a linen cloth, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulcher: |
| [47]ἡ δὲ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ Μαρία ᾿Ιωσῆ ἐθεώρουν ποῦ τίθεται. |
[47]And Mary Magdalene, and Mary Josephs mother beheld where he should be laid. |
