[1]And he came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. [1]AndG2532 they came overG2064[G5627] untoG1519 the other sideG4008 of the seaG2281, intoG1519 the countryG5561 of the GadarenesG1046.
[2]And as he went out of the ship, there met him from the place of sepulchres a man in whom was an unclean spirit. [2]AndG2532 when heG846 was comeG1831[G5631] out ofG1537 the shipG4143, immediatelyG2112 there metG528[G5656] himG846 out ofG1537 the tombsG3419 a manG444 withG1722 an uncleanG169 spiritG4151,
[3]And he dwelt in the place of sepulchres; and no one could confine him with chains: [3]WhoG3739 hadG2192[G5707] his dwellingG2731 amongG1722 the tombsG3419; andG2532 no manG3762 couldG1410[G5711] bindG1210[G5658] himG846, no, notG3777 with chainsG254:
[4]because, as often as he had been confined with fetters and chains, he had broken the chains and burst the fetters: and no one could subdue him. [4]BecauseG1223 that heG846 had been oftenG4178 boundG1210[G5771] with fettersG3976 andG2532 chainsG254, andG2532 the chainsG254 had been plucked asunderG1288[G5771] byG5259 himG846, andG2532 the fettersG3976 broken in piecesG4937[G5771]: neitherG2532 couldG2480[G5707] any man tameG1150[G5658] himG846.[G3762]
[5]And continually, by night and by day, he was in the place of sepulchres, and cried and wounded himself with stones. [5]AndG2532 alwaysG1275, nightG3571 andG2532 dayG2250, he wasG2258[G5713] inG1722 the mountainsG3735, andG2532 inG1722 the tombsG3418, cryingG2896[G5723], andG2532 cuttingG2629[G5723] himselfG1438 with stonesG3037.
[6]And when he saw Jesus at a distance, he ran and worshipped him; [6]ButG1161 when he sawG1492[G5631] JesusG2424 afar offG575[G3113], he ranG5143[G5627] andG2532 worshippedG4352[G5656] himG846,
[7]and cried with a loud voice, and said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the High God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. [7]AndG2532 criedG2896[G5660] with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, and saidG2036[G5627], WhatG5101 have IG1698 to doG2532 with theeG4671, JesusG2424, thou SonG5207 of the most highG5310 GodG2316? I adjureG3726[G5719] theeG4571 by GodG2316, that thou tormentG928[G5661] meG3165 notG3361.
[8]For he had said to him: Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. [8]ForG1063 he saidG3004[G5707] unto himG846, ComeG1831[G5628] out ofG1537 the manG444, thou uncleanG169 spiritG4151.
[9]And he demanded of him: What is thy name? And he replied to him: Our name is Legion; for we are many. [9]AndG2532 he askedG1905[G5707] himG846, WhatG5101 is thyG4671 nameG3686? AndG2532 he answeredG611[G5662], sayingG3004[G5723], MyG3427 nameG3686 is LegionG3003: forG3754 we areG2070[G5748] manyG4183.
[10]And he besought him much, that he would not send him out of the country. [10]AndG2532 he besoughtG3870[G5707] himG846 muchG4183 thatG3363 he wouldG649 notG3363 sendG649 themG846 awayG649[G5661] out ofG1854 the countryG5561.
[11]And there was there by the mountain, a great herd of swine grazing. [11]NowG1161 there wasG2258[G5713] thereG1563 nighG4314 unto the mountainsG3735 a greatG3173 herdG34 of swineG5519 feedingG1006.[G5746]
[12]And the demons besought him, and said: Send us upon those swine, that we may enter them. [12]AndG2532 allG3956 the devilsG1142 besoughtG3870[G5656] himG846, sayingG3004[G5723], SendG3992[G5657] usG2248 intoG1519 the swineG5519, thatG2443 we may enterG1525[G5632] intoG1519 themG846.
[13]And he permitted them. And those unclean spirits went out, and entered the swine: and the herd, of about two thousand, ran to a precipice, and fell into the sea, and were strangled in the waters. [13]AndG2532 forthwithG2112 JesusG2424 gaveG2010 themG846 leaveG2010[G5656]. AndG2532 the uncleanG169 spiritsG4151 went outG1831[G5631], and enteredG1525[G5627] intoG1519 the swineG5519: andG2532 the herdG34 ranG3729[G5656] violently downG2596 a steep placeG2911 intoG1519 the seaG2281,[G1161] (they wereG2258[G5713] aboutG5613 two thousandG1367;) andG2532 were chokedG4155[G5712] inG1722 the seaG2281.
[14]And they who tended them, fled and told [it] in the city and in the villages: and they came out to see what had occurred. [14]AndG1161 they that fedG1006[G5723] the swineG5519 fledG5343[G5627], andG2532 toldG312[G5656] it inG1519 the cityG4172, andG2532 inG1519 the countryG68. AndG2532 they went outG1831[G5627] to seeG1492[G5629] whatG5101 it wasG2076[G5748] that was doneG1096.[G5756]
[15]And: they came to Jesus, and saw him in whom the demons had been, him in whom had been the legion, clothed, and sober, and sitting; and they were afraid. [15]AndG2532 they comeG2064[G5736] toG4314 JesusG2424, andG2532 seeG2334[G5719] him that was possessed with the devilG1139[G5740], and hadG2192[G5761] the legionG3003, sittingG2521[G5740], andG2532 clothedG2439[G5772], andG2532 in his right mindG4993[G5723]: andG2532 they were afraidG5399.[G5675]
[16]And those who had seen [it] told them how it occurred to him who had the demons, and also concerning the swine. [16]AndG2532 they that sawG1492[G5631] it toldG1334[G5662] themG846 howG4459 it befellG1096[G5633] to him that was possessed with the devilG1139[G5740], andG2532 also concerningG4012 the swineG5519.
[17]And they began to request him, that he would go from their border. [17]AndG2532 they beganG756[G5662] to prayG3870[G5721] himG846 to departG565[G5629] out ofG575 theirG846 coastsG3725.
[18]And as he ascended the ship, the late demoniac requested that he might continue with him. [18]AndG2532 when heG846 was comeG1684[G5631] intoG1519 the shipG4143, he that had been possessed with the devilG1139[G5679] prayedG3870[G5707] himG846 thatG2443 he might beG5600[G5753] withG3326 himG846.
[19]And he suffered him not, but said to him: Go home to thy people, and tell them what the Lord hath done for thee, and hath compassionated thee. [19]HowbeitG1161 JesusG2424 sufferedG863[G5656] himG846 notG3756, butG235 saithG3004[G5719] unto himG846, GoG5217[G5720] homeG1519[G3624][G4675] toG4314 thy friendsG4674, andG2532 tellG312[G5657] themG846 how great thingsG3745 the LordG2962 hath doneG4160[G5656] for theeG4671, andG2532 hath had compassionG1653[G5656] on theeG4571.
[20]And he went, and began to publish in Decapolis, what Jesus had done for him. And they were all amazed. [20]AndG2532 he departedG565[G5627], andG2532 beganG756[G5662] to publishG2784[G5721] inG1722 DecapolisG1179 how great thingsG3745 JesusG2424 had doneG4160[G5656] for himG846: andG2532 allG3956 men did marvelG2296.[G5707]
[21]And when Jesus had passed by ship to the other side, great multitudes again assembled about him as he was on the shore of the sea. [21]AndG2532 when JesusG2424 was passed overG1276[G5660] againG3825 byG1722 shipG4143 untoG1519 the other sideG4008, muchG4183 peopleG3793 gatheredG4863[G5681] untoG1909 himG846: andG2532 he wasG2258[G5713] nighG3844 unto the seaG2281.
[22]And one of the rulers of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus, came, and, on seeing him, fell at his feet, [22]AndG2532, beholdG2400[G5628], there comethG2064[G5736] oneG1520 of the rulers of the synagogueG752, JairusG2383 by nameG3686; andG2532 when he sawG1492[G5631] himG846, he fellG4098[G5719] atG4314 hisG846 feetG4228,
[23]and besought him much, and said to him: My daughter is very sick; but come and lay thy hand on her, and she will be cured, and will live. [23]AndG2532 besoughtG3870[G5707] himG846 greatlyG4183, sayingG3004[G5723],[G3754] MyG3450 little daughterG2365 liethG2079 at the point of deathG2192[G5719]: I pray thee, comeG2064[G5631] andG2443 layG2007[G5632] thy handsG5495 on herG846, thatG3704 she may be healedG4982[G5686]; andG2532 she shall liveG2198.[G5695]
[24]And Jesus went with him; and a great company attended him, and pressed upon him. [24]AndG2532 Jesus wentG565[G5627] withG3326 himG846; andG2532 muchG4183 peopleG3793 followedG190[G5707] himG846, andG2532 throngedG4918[G5707] himG846.
[25]And a woman who had had a defluxion of blood twelve years, [25]AndG2532 a certainG5100 womanG1135, which had anG1722 issueG4511 of bloodG129[G5607][G5752] twelveG1427 yearsG2094,
[26]and who had suffered much from many physicians, and had expended all she possessed, and was not profited, but was even the more afflicted; [26]AndG2532 had sufferedG3958[G5631] many thingsG4183 ofG5259 manyG4183 physiciansG2395, andG2532 had spentG1159[G5660] allG3956 that sheG1438 hadG3844, andG2532 wasG5623 nothingG3367 betteredG5623[G5685], butG235 ratherG3123 grewG2064[G5631] G1519worseG5501
[27]when she heard of Jesus, came behind him in the press of the crowd, and touched his garment [27]When she had heardG191[G5660] ofG4012 JesusG2424, cameG2064[G5631] inG1722 the pressG3793 behindG3693, and touchedG680[G5662] hisG846 garmentG2440.
[28]For she said: If I but touch his garment, I shall live. [28]ForG1063 she saidG3004[G5707], IfG3754[G2579] I may touchG680[G5672] butG2579 hisG846 clothesG2440, I shall be wholeG4982.[G5701]
[29]And immediately the fountain of her blood dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague. [29]AndG2532 straightwayG2112 the fountainG4077 of herG846 bloodG129 was dried upG3583[G5681]; andG2532 she feltG1097[G5627] in her bodyG4983 thatG3754 she was healedG2390[G5769] ofG575 that plagueG3148.
[30]And Jesus at once knew in himself, that virtue had issued from him: and he turned to the throng, and said: Who touched my clothes? [30]AndG2532 JesusG2424, immediatelyG2112 knowingG1921[G5631] inG1722 himselfG1438 that virtueG1411 had goneG1831[G5631] out ofG1537 himG846, turned him aboutG1994[G5651] inG1722 the pressG3793, and saidG3004[G5707], WhoG5101 touchedG680[G5662] myG3450 clothesG2440?
[31]And his disciples said to him: Thou seest the throngs that press upon thee; and sayest thou, Who touched me? [31]AndG2532 hisG846 disciplesG3101 saidG3004[G5707] unto himG846, Thou seestG991[G5719] the multitudeG3793 throngingG4918[G5723] theeG4571, andG2532 sayest thouG3004[G5719], WhoG5101 touchedG680[G5662] meG3450?
[32]And he looked around, to see who had done this. [32]AndG2532 he looked round aboutG4017[G5710] to seeG1492[G5629] her that had doneG4160[G5660] this thingG5124.
[33]And the woman, fearing and trembling, for she knew what had taken place in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. [33]ButG1161 the womanG1135 fearingG5399[G5679] andG2532 tremblingG5141[G5723], knowingG1492[G5761] whatG3739 was doneG1096[G5754] inG1909 herG846, cameG2064[G5627] andG2532 fell down beforeG4363[G5627] himG846, andG2532 toldG2036[G5627] himG846 allG3956 the truthG225.
[34]And he said to her: My daughter, thy faith hath made thee live: go in peace; and be thou healed of thy plague. [34]AndG1161 he saidG2036[G5627] unto herG846, DaughterG2364, thyG4675 faithG4102 hath madeG4982 theeG4571 wholeG4982[G5758]; goG5217[G5720] inG1519 peaceG1515, andG2532 beG2468[G5749] wholeG5199 ofG575 thyG4675 plagueG3148.
[35]And while he was speaking, some domestics of the ruler of the synagogue came, and said: Thy daughter is dead: why therefore troublest thou the teacher? [35]WhileG2089 heG846 yetG2089 spakeG2980[G5723], there cameG2064[G5736] fromG575 the ruler of the synagogue'sG752 house certain which saidG3004[G5723],[G3754] ThyG4675 daughterG2364 is deadG599[G5627]: whyG5101 troublest thouG4660[G5719] the MasterG1320 any furtherG2089?
[36]But Jesus heard the word they spoke, and said to the ruler of the synagogue: Fear not; only believe. [36]As soon asG1161[G2112] JesusG2424 heardG191[G5660] the wordG3056 that was spokenG2980[G5746], he saithG3004[G5719] unto the ruler of the synagogueG752, BeG5399 notG3361 afraidG5399[G5737], onlyG3440 believeG4100.[G5720]
[37]And he suffered no one to go with him, except Simon Cephas, and James, and John the brother of James. [37]AndG2532 he sufferedG863[G5656][G3756] no manG3762 to followG4870[G5658] himG846, saveG1508 PeterG4074, andG2532 JamesG2385, andG2532 JohnG2491 the brotherG80 of JamesG2385.
[38]And they came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he saw, that they were in a tumult, and weeping, and howling. [38]AndG2532 he comethG2064[G5736] toG1519 the houseG3624 of the ruler of the synagogueG752, andG2532 seethG2334[G5719] the tumultG2351, and them that weptG2799[G5723] andG2532 wailedG214[G5723] greatlyG4183.
[39]And he entered in and said to them: Why are ye in a tumult, and weep? The maid is not dead, but is asleep. [39]AndG2532 when he was come inG1525[G5631], he saithG3004[G5719] unto themG846, WhyG5101 make ye this adoG2350[G5743], andG2532 weepG2799[G5719]? the damselG3813 isG599 notG3756 deadG599[G5627], butG235 sleepethG2518.[G5719]
[40]And they laughed at him. But Jesus put them all out. And he took the maids father, and her mother, and those that accompanied him, and entered into where the maid lay. [40]AndG2532 they laughedG2606 himG846 to scornG2606[G5707]. ButG1161 when he had putG1544 them allG537 outG1544[G5631], he takethG3880[G5719] the fatherG3962 andG2532 the motherG3384 of the damselG3813, andG2532 them that were withG3326 himG846, andG2532 entereth inG1531[G5736] whereG3699 the damselG3813 wasG2258[G5713] lyingG345.[G5740]
[41]And he took the maid's hand, and said to her: Maiden, arise. [41]AndG2532 he tookG2902[G5660] the damselG3813 by the handG5495, and saidG3004[G5719] unto herG846, TalithaG5008 cumiG2891; whichG3739 isG2076[G5748], being interpretedG3177[G5746], DamselG2877, I sayG3004[G5719] unto theeG4671, ariseG1453.[G5669]
[42]And immediately the maid arose, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. [42]AndG2532 straightwayG2112 the damselG2877 aroseG450[G5627], andG2532 walkedG4043[G5707]; forG1063 she wasG2258[G5713] of the age of twelveG1427 yearsG2094. AndG2532 they were astonishedG1839[G5627] with a greatG3173 astonishmentG1611.
[43]And he enjoined it upon them much, that no one should know of it. And he directed, that they should give her to eat. [43]AndG2532 he chargedG1291[G5668] themG846 straitlyG4183 thatG2443 no manG3367 should knowG1097[G5632] itG5124; andG2532 commandedG2036[G5627] that something should be givenG1325[G5683] herG846 to eatG5315.[G5629]
