| [1]AND it was that when Jeshu had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he removed from thence to teach and preach in their cities. |
[1]והוא דכד שׁלמ ישׁוע למפקדו לתרעסר תלמידוהי שׁני מנ תמנ למלפו ולמכרזו במדינתהונ |
| [2]But Juchanon, when he heard in the house of the bound the works of the Meshicha, sent by his disciples, |
[2]יוחננ דינ כד שׁמע בית אסירא עבדוהי דמשׁיחא שׁדר ביד תלמידוהי |
| [3]And said to him, Art thou He that cometh, or another are we to expect? |
[3]ואמר לה אנת הו הו דאתא או לאחרינ הו מסכינ אנחננ |
| [4]Jeshu answered and said to them, Go, recount to Juchanon these things which you hear and see; |
[4]ענא ישׁוע ואמר להונ זלו אשׁתעו ליוחננ אילינ דשׁמעינ אנתונ וחזינ |
| [5][That] the blind see, the lame are walking, the lepers are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead arise, and the poor are evangelized; |
[5]סמיא חזינ וחגירא מהלכינ וגרבא מתדכינ וחרשׁא שׁמעינ ומיתא קימינ ומסכנא מסתברינ |
| [6]And blessed is he who shall not be offended with me. |
[6]וטובוהי לאינא דלא נתכשׁל בי |
| [7]But when they were gone, Jeshu began to speak to the assembly concerning Juchanon: What went you forth into the waste to see? a reed that by the wind was shaken? |
[7]כד דינ אזלו שׁרי ישׁוע למאמר לכנשׁא על יוחננ מנא נפקתונ לחורבא למחזא קניא דמנ רוחא מתתזיע |
| [8]And if not, what went you forth to see? a man clothed in soft vestments? Behold, they who are softly clothed are in the house of kings. |
[8]ואלא מנא נפקתונ למחזא גברא דנחתא רכיכא לבישׁ הא אילינ דרכיכא לבישׁינ בית מלכא אנונ |
| [9]And if not, what went you forth to see? a prophet? I tell you, Yes; and more than a prophet. |
[9]ואלא מנא נפקתונ למחזא נביא אינ אמר אנא לכונ ויתיר מנ נביא |
| [10]For this is he concerning whom it is written, Behold, I send my angel before thy face, to prepare the way before thee. |
[10]הנו גיר דעלוהי כתיב דהא אנא משׁדר אנא מלאכי קדמ פרצופכ דנתקנ אורחא קדמיכ |
| [11]Amen I say to you, there hath not arisen among them born of women [one] who [is] greater than Juchanon the Baptizer: yet, the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. |
[11]אמינ אמרנא לכונ דלא קמ בילידי נשׁא דרב מנ יוחננ מעמדנא זעורא דינ במלכות שׁמיא רב הו מנה |
| [12]But from the days of Juchanon the Baptizer until now, the kingdom of the heavens by violence is taken, and the violent ones seize it. |
[12]מנ יומי יוחננ דינ מעמדנא ועדמא להשׁא מלכותא דשׁמיא בקטירא מתדברא וקטירנא מחטפינ לה |
| [13]For all the prophets and the law prophesiedⓘ until Juchanon; |
[13]כלהונ גיר נביא ואוריתא עדמא ליוחננ אתנביו |
| [14]And if you are willing, receive, that he is Elia who was to come. |
[14]ואנ צבינ אנתונ קבלו דהויו אליא דעתיד למאתא |
| [15]Whoever hath ears to hear, he shall hear. |
[15]מנ דאית לה אדנא דנשׁמע נשׁמע |
| [16]BUT to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in the public place, and cry to their companions, |
[16]למנ דינ אדמיה לשׁרבתא הדא דמיא לטליא דיתבינ בשׁוקא וקעינ לחבריהונ |
| [17]And say, We have sung to you, and you have not danced; we have wailed unto you, and you have not mourned. |
[17]ואמרינ זמרנ לכונ ולא רקדתונ ואלינ לכונ ולא ארקדתונ |
| [18]For Juchanon came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. |
[18]אתא גיר יוחננ דלא אכל ולא שׁתא ואמרינ דיוא אית בה |
| [19]The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, See a man a devourer, a wine-drinker, a friend of tribute-takers and of sinners. But justified is wisdom by her servants. |
[19]אתא ברה דאנשׁא אכל ושׁתא ואמרינ הא גברא אכולא ושׁתא חמרא ורחמא דמכסא ודחטיא ואזדדקת חכמתא מנ עבדיה |
| [20]Then began Jeshu to reproach those cities in which were done many of his miracles, and which did not repent, |
[20]הידינ שׁרי ישׁוע למחסדו מדינתא אילינ דהוו בהינ חילוהי סגיאא ולא תבו |
| [21]Saying, Woe to thee, Korazin! woe to thee, Bethtsaida! for if in Tsur and in Tsaidon those miracles had been done which have been performed in you, they would a while ago in sackcloth and ashes have repented. |
[21]ואמר הוא וי לכי כורזינ וי לכי בית-צידא דאלו בצור ובצידנ הוו חילא אילינ דהוו בכינ כבר דינ בסקא ובקטמא תבו |
| [22]But I say to you, that for Tsur and Tsaidon it shall be more tolerableⓘ in the day of judgment than for you. |
[22]ברמ אמר אנא לכינ דלצור ולצידנ נהוא ניח ביומא דדינא או לכינ |
| [23]And thou, Kaphernachum, who unto heaven art exalted, unto Shiul shalt be brought down; for if in Sadum had been done those miracles which have been done in thee, it would have stood until this day. |
[23]ואנתי כפרנחומ הי דעדמא לשׁמיא אתתרימתי עדמא לשׁיול תתחתינ דאלו בסדומ הוו חילא אילינ דהוו בכי קימא הות עדמא ליומנא |
| [24]But I tell you that for the land of Sadum it shall be more tolerableⓘ in the day of judgment than for thee. |
[24]ברמ אמרנא לכי דלארעא דסדומ נהוא ניח ביומא דדינא או לכי |
| [25]IN that time Jeshu answered and said, I praise thee, my Father, the Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that thou hast concealed these [things] from the wise and prudent, [ones] but hast revealed them unto little children. |
[25]בהו זבנא ענא ישׁוע ואמר מודא אנא לכ אבי מרא דשׁמיא ודארעא דכסית הלינ מנ חכימא וסכולתנא וגלית אנינ לילודא |
| [26]Yes, my Father, for thus was it pleasing before thee! |
[26]אינ אבי דהכנא הוא צבינא קדמיכ |
| [27]All things are delivered to me from my Father; and no man knoweth the Son but the Father; also the Father no man knoweth, except the Son, and he [to] whom the Son pleaseth to reveal [him]. |
[27]כל מדמ אשׁתלמ לי מנ אבי ולא אנשׁ ידע לברא אלא אנ אבא אפ לא לאבא אנשׁ ידע אלא אנ ברא ולמנ דצבא ברא דנגלא |
| [28]Come unto me, all you [who] are wearied and bearing burdens, and I will give you rest. |
[28]תו לותי כלכונ לאיא ושׁקילי מובלא ואנא אניחכונ |
| [29]Bear my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am peaceful and lowly in my heart, and you shall find repose for your souls. |
[29]שׁקולו נירי עליכונ וילפו מני דניח אנא ומכיכ אנא בלבי ומשׁכחינ אנתונ ניחא לנפשׁתכונ |
| [30]For my yoke is kindly, and my burden is light. |
[30]נירי גיר בסימ הו ומובלי קלילא הי |
