| [1]At that time Jeshu was walking on the sabbath among the grain;ⓘ and his disciples hungered, and began to pluck the ears and to eat. |
[1]בהו זבנא מהלכ הוא ישׁוע בשׁבתא בית זרעא ותלמידוהי כפנו ושׁריו מלגינ שׁבלא ואכלינ |
| [2]But when the Pharishee saw them, they say to him, Look, thy disciples do something which is not lawful to be done on the sabbath. |
[2]פרישׁא דינ כד חזו אנונ אמרינ לה הא תלמידיכ עבדינ מדמ דלא שׁליט למעבד בשׁבתא |
| [3]But he said to them, Have you not read what David did when he hungered, and they who were with him? |
[3]הו דינ אמר להונ לא קריתונ מנא עבד דויד כד כפנ ואילינ דעמה |
| [4]How he went to the house of Aloha, and the bread of the table of the Lord did he eat,—that which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for them who were with him, but for the priests only? |
[4]איכנא על לביתא דאלהא ולחמא דפתורה דמריא אכל הו דלא שׁליט הוא לה למאכל ולא לאילינ דעמה אלא אנ לכהנא בלחוד |
| [5]Or have you not read in the law that the priests in the temple profane the sabbath in it, and are without blame? |
[5]או לא קריתונ באוריתא דכהנא בהיכלא מחלינ לה לשׁבתא ודלא עדלי אנונ |
| [6]But I say to you, that [one] greater than the temple is here. |
[6]אמר אנא לכונ דינ דרב מנ היכלא אית הרכא |
| [7]Moreover, if you knew what that [meaneth], "I desire mercy and not a sacrifice," you would not have condemned them who are not faulty. |
[7]אלו דינ ידעינ הויתונ מנו חננא צבא אנא ולא דבחתא לא מחיבינ הויתונ לאילינ דדלא עדלי אנונ |
| [8]For the Lord of the sabbath is the Son of man. |
[8]מרה גיר דשׁבתא איתוהי ברה דאנשׁא |
| [9]AND Jeshu passed thence, and came into their synagogue. |
[9]ושׁני מנ תמנ ישׁוע ואתא לכנושׁתהונ |
| [10]And a certain man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned him, saying, Is it lawful on the sabbath to heal? that they might accuse him. |
[10]וגברא חד אית הוא תמנ דיבישׁא אידה ומשׁאלינ הוו לה ואמרינ דאנ שׁליט בשׁבתא למאסיו איכ דנאכלונ קרצוהי |
| [11]But he said to them, What man is there among you that hath one sheep, [who], if it fall into a pit on the sabbath-day, doth not take and lift it up? |
[11]הו דינ אמר להונ מנו מנכונ גברא דאית לה ערבא חד ואנ נפל בחברא ביומא דשׁבתא לא אחד ומקימ לה |
| [12]How much more precious is a child of man than a sheep! Wherefore it is lawful on the sabbath-day to do that which is good. |
[12]כמא דינ יתיר ברנשׁא מנ ערבא מדינ שׁליט הו בשׁבתא למעבד דשׁפיר |
| [13]Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand! and he stretched forth his hand, and it was restored like the other its fellow. |
[13]הידינ אמר להו גברא פשׁוט אידכ ופשׁט אידה ותקנת איכ חברתה |
| [14]And the Pharishee went forth and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him. |
[14]ונפקו פרישׁא ומלכא נסבו עלוהי איכ דנובדוניהי |
| [15]But Jeshu knew, and passed from thence; and great crowds went after him, and he healed them all. |
[15]ישׁוע דינ ידע ושׁני לה מנ תמנ ואזלו בתרה כנשׁא סגיאא ואסי לכלהונ |
| [16]And he forbad that they should make him known. |
[16]וכאא בהונ דלא נגלוניהי |
| [17]That what was spoken by the prophet Eshaia might be fulfilled, who said, |
[17]דנתמלא מדמ דאתאמר ביד אשׁעיא נביא דאמר |
| [18]Behold my servant, in whom is my pleasure: my beloved, in whom my soul delighteth. My Spirit will I put upon him, and judgment to the peoples shall he preach. |
[18]הא עבדי דאצטבית בה חביבי דסוחת בה נפשׁי רוחי אסימ עלוהי ודינא לעממא נכרז |
| [19]He shall not contend nor cry, and no man shall hear his voice in the street. |
[19]לא נתחרא ולא נקעא ולא אנשׁ נשׁמע קלה בשׁוקא |
| [20]A bruised reed he will not break, and a flickering lamp he will not extinguish, until he bring forth judgment unto victory. |
[20]קניא רעיעא לא נתבר ושׁרגא דמטפטפ לא נדעכ עדמא דנפק דינא לזכותא |
| [21]And in his name shall the gentiles hope. |
[21]ובשׁמה עממא נסברונ |
| [22]THEN they brought to him a certain demoniac who was dumb and blind; and he healed him, so that the dumb and blind could speak and see. |
[22]הידינ קרבו לה דיונא חד דחרשׁ ועויר ואסיה איכנא דחרשׁא וסמיא נמלל ונחזא |
| [23]And all the multitude were amazed, and said, Is not this the Son of David? |
[23]ומתדמרינ הוו כלהונ כנשׁא ואמרינ דלמא הנו ברה דדויד |
| [24]But the Pharishee, when they heard, said, This [man] doth not cast forth demons unless by Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. |
[24]פרישׁא דינ כד שׁמעו אמרינ הנא לא מפק שׁאדא אלא בבעלזבוב רשׁא דדיוא |
| [25]But Jeshu knew their reasonings, and said to them, Every kingdom that is divided against itself is destroyed; and every city which is divided against itself shall not stand. |
[25]ישׁוע דינ ידע מחשׁבתהונ ואמר להונ כל מלכו דתתפלג על נפשׁה תחרב וכל בי ומדינא דנתפלג על נפשׁה לא נקומ |
| [26]And if Satanⓘ cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then standeth his kingdom? |
[26]ואנ סטנא לסטנא מפק על נפשׁה אתפלג איכנא הכיל קימא מלכותה |
| [27]And if I by Beelzebub cast forth demons, your sons, by whom do they cast them forth? On this account they shall be your judges. |
[27]ואנ אנא בבעלזבוב מפק אנא דיוא בניכונ במנא מפקינ להונ מטל הנא הנונ נהוונ לכונ דינא |
| [28]But if I by the Spirit of Aloha cast forth demons, the kingdom of Aloha hath come nigh upon you. |
[28]ואנ ברוחא דאלהא אנא מפק אנא דיוא קרבת לה עליכונ מלכותא דאלהא |
| [29]Or, how can one enter the strong one's house, and spoil his goods, unless he first bind the strong one? and then can he spoil his house. |
[29]או איכנא אנשׁ משׁכח דנעול לבית חסינא ומאנוהי נבוז אלא אנ לוקדמ נאסריוהי לחסינא והידינ ביתה נבוז |
| [30]He who is not with me is against me; and he who gathereth not with me, in scattering scattereth. |
[30]מנ דלא הוא עמי לוקבלי הו ומנ דלא כנשׁ עמי מבדרו מבדר |
| [31]Wherefore, this I say to you: That all sins and blasphemies shall be forgiven unto the sons of men; but the blasphemy which is against the Spirit shall not be forgiven to the sons of men. |
[31]מטל הנא אמר אנא לכונ דכל חטהינ וגודפינ נשׁתבקונ לבנינשׁא גודפא דינ דעל רוחא לא נשׁתבק לבנינשׁא |
| [32]And every one who shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but every one who against the Spirit of Holiness shall speak, it shall not be forgiven to him, neither in this world nor in the world to come. |
[32]וכל מנ דנאמר מלתא על ברה דאנשׁא נשׁתבק לה כל דינ דעל רוחא דקודשׁא נאמר לא נשׁתבק לה לא בעלמא הנא ולא בעלמא דעתיד |
| [33]Or make the tree good, and the fruits [will be] good; or make the tree evil, and the fruits [will be] evil: for by the fruits the tree is known. |
[33]או עבדו אילנא שׁפירא ופארוהי שׁפירא או עבדו אילנא בישׁא ופארוהי בישׁא מנ פארוהי הו גיר מתידע אילנא |
| [34]Brood of vipers! how can you speak good who are evil? For from the abundancies of the heart the mouth speaketh. |
[34]ילדא דאכדנא איכנא משׁכחינ אנתונ טבתא לממללו דבישׁא אנתונ מנ תותרי לבא גיר ממלל פומא |
| [35]A good man from the good treasuries bringeth forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasuries bringeth forth evil [things]. |
[35]גברא טבא מנ סימתא טבתא מפק טבתא וגברא בישׁא מנ סימתא בישׁתא מפק בישׁתא |
| [36]But I tell you, that for every useless word which the sons of men shall speak, they must give the answer for it in the day of judgment. |
[36]אמר אנא לכונ גיר דכל מלא בטלא דנאמרונ בני אנשׁא נתלונ פתגמה ביומא דדינא |
| [37]For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. |
[37]מנ מליכ גיר תזדדק ומנ מליכ תתחיב |
| [38]THEN answered certain from the scribes and Pharishee, and said to him, Teacher, we would wish to see a sign from thee. |
[38]הידינ ענו אנשׁא מנ ספרא ומנ פרישׁא ואמרינ לה מלפנא צבינ חננ דנחזא מנכ אתא |
| [39]But he answered them and said, A generation depraved and adulterous requireth a sign; but a sign shall not be given to it, but the sign of Jaunon the prophet; |
[39]הו דינ ענא ואמר להונ שׁרבתא בישׁתא וגירתא אתא בעיא ואתא לא תתיהב לה אלא אתה דיוננ נביא |
| [40]For as Jaunon was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so the Son of man shall be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. |
[40]איכנא גיר דהוא יוננ בכרסה דנונא תלתא יומינ ותלתא לילונ הכנא נהוא ברה דאנשׁא בלבה דארעא תלתא איממינ ותלתא לילונ |
| [41]The men of Ninevoë. shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jaunon; and, behold, a greater than Jaunon [is] here. |
[41]גברא נינויא נקומונ בדינא עמ שׁרבתא הדא ונחיבונה דהנונ תבו בכרוזותה דיוננ והא דרב מנ יוננ תננ |
| [42]The queen of the south shall arise in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it; for she came from the confines of the earth that she might hear the wisdom of Shelemun; but one more excellent than Shelemun is here. |
[42]מלכתא דתימנא תקומ בדינא עמ שׁרבתא הדא ותחיביה דאתת מנ עבריה דארעא דתשׁמע חכמתה דשׁלימונ והא דיתיר מנ שׁלימונ הרכא |
| [43]When the unclean spirit shall have gone forth from a child of man, he wandereth through places that have no waters in them, and seeketh repose, but findeth [it] not. |
[43]אמתי דינ דרוחא טנפתא תפוק מנ ברנשׁא מתכרכא באתרותא דמיא לית בהונ ובעיא ניחא ולא משׁכחא |
| [44]Then he saith, I will return unto the house from whence I came forth; and coming, he findeth it untenanted, cleansed, and decorated. |
[44]הידינ אמרא אהפוכ לביתי מנ איכא דנפקת ואתיא משׁכחא דסריק וחמימ ומצבת |
| [45]Then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits, than himself more wicked, and they enter and dwell in him. And the end of that man is worse than his beginning. So shall it be with this wicked race! |
[45]הידינ אזלא דברא עמה שׁבע רוחא אחרנינ דמנה בישׁנ ועאלנ ועמרנ בה והויא חרתה דגברא הו בישׁא מנ קדמיתה הכנא נהוא לה לשׁרבתא הדא בישׁתא |
| [46]While he spake to the assembly, his mother and his brethren came, standing without, and seeking to speak with him. |
[46]כד הו דינ ממלל לכנשׁא אתו אמה ואחוהי קימינ לבר ובעינ דנמללונ עמה |
| [47]And a man said to him, Thy mother and thy brethren are standing without, and are requesting to speak with thee. |
[47]אמר לה דינ אנשׁ הא אמכ ואחיכ קימינ לבר ובעינ דנמללונ עמכ |
| [48]But he answered and said to him who spake to him, Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? |
[48]הו דינ ענא ואמר למנ דאמר לה מנ הי אמי ומנ אנונ אחי |
| [49]And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples, and said, Behold my mother, and behold my brethren! |
[49]ופשׁט אידה לות תלמידוהי ואמר הא אמי והא אחי |
| [50]For every one who doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and my sister, and my mother. |
[50]כלנשׁ גיר דעבד צבינה דאבי דבשׁמיא הויו אחי וחתי ואמי |
