[1]AT that very hour the disciples came up to Jesus and said, Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? [1]In illa hora accesserunt discipuli ad Jesum, dicentes: Quis, putas, major est in regno cælorum?
[2]So Jesus called a little boy, and made him to stand up in the midst of them, [2]Et advocans Jesus parvulum, statuit eum in medio eorum,
[3]And he said, Truly I say to you, Unless you change and become like little boys, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. [3]et dixit: Amen dico vobis, nisi conversi fueritis, et efficiamini sicut parvuli, non intrabitis in regnum cælorum.
[4]Whoever therefore will humble himself like this little boy, shall be great in the kingdom of heaven. [4]Quicumque ergo humiliaverit se sicut parvulus iste, hic est major in regno cælorum.
[5]And he who will welcome one like this little boy, in my name, welcomes me. [5]Et qui susceperit unum parvulum talem in nomine meo, me suscipit:
[6]And whoever misleads one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for him that an ass' millstone were hanged on his neck and he were sunk in the depths of the sea. [6]qui autem scandalizaverit unum de pusillis istis, qui in me credunt, expedit ei ut suspendatur mola asinaria in collo ejus, et demergatur in profundum maris.
[7]Woe to the world because of offences! Offences are bound to come; but woe to the man by whose hand the offences come! [7]Væ mundo a scandalis ! Necesse est enim ut veniant scandala: verumtamen væ homini illi, per quem scandalum venit.
[8]If your hand or your foot offends you, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is much better for you to go through life lamed or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, and fall into the everlasting fire. [8]Si autem manus tua, vel pes tuus scandalizat te, abscide eum, et projice abs te: bonum tibi est ad vitam ingredi debilem, vel claudum, quam duas manus vel duos pedes habentem mitti in ignem æternum.
[9]And if your eye offends you, remove it and throw it away from you; it is better for you to go through life with one eye, rather than having two eyes and fall into the gehenna of fire. [9]Et si oculus tuus scandalizat te, erue eum, et projice abs te: bonum tibi est cum uno oculo in vitam intrare, quam duos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam ignis.
[10]See to it that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you, their angels always see the face of my Father in heaven. [10]Videte ne contemnatis unum ex his pusillis: dico enim vobis, quia angeli eorum in cælis semper vident faciem Patris mei, qui in cælis est.
[11]For the Son of man has come to save what was lost. [11]Venit enim Filius hominis salvare quod perierat.
[12]What do you think? If a man should have a hundred sheep, and one of them is lost, would he not leave the ninety and nine on the mountain, and go in search of the one which is lost? [12]Quid vobis videtur? si fuerint alicui centum oves, et erravit una ex eis: nonne relinquit nonaginta novem in montibus, et vadit quærere eam quæ erravit?
[13]And if he should find it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety and nine which were not lost. [13]Et si contigerit ut inveniat eam: amen dico vobis, quia gaudet super eam magis quam super nonaginta novem, quæ non erraverunt.
[14]Even so, your Father in heaven does not want one of these little ones to be lost. [14]Sic non est voluntas ante Patrem vestrum, qui in cælis est, ut pereat unus de pusillis istis.
[15]Now then, if your brother is at fault with you, go and rebuke him alone; if he listens to you, then you have won your brother. [15]Si autem peccaverit in te frater tuus, vade, et corripe eum inter te, et ipsum solum: si te audierit, lucratus eris fratrem tuum.
[16]But if he will not listen to you, take one or two with you, because at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word is sustained. [16]Si autem te non audierit, adhibe tecum adhuc unum, vel duos, ut in ore duorum, vel trium testium stet omne verbum.
[17]And if he will not listen to them, tell the congregation; and if he will not listen to the congregation, then regard him as a publican and a heathen. [17]Quod si non audierit eos: dic ecclesiæ. Si autem ecclesiam non audierit, sit tibi sicut ethnicus et publicanus.
[18]Truly I say to you, Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will be released in heaven. [18]Amen dico vobis, quæcumque alligaveritis super terram, erunt ligata et in cælo: et quæcumque solveritis super terram, erunt soluta et in cælo.
[19]Again I say to you, that if two of you are worthy on earth, anything that they would ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. [19]Iterum dico vobis, quia si duo ex vobis consenserint super terram, de omni re quamcumque petierint, fiet illis a Patre meo, qui in cælis est.
[20]For wherever two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them. [20]Ubi enim sunt duo vel tres congregati in nomine meo, ibi sum in medio eorum.
[21]Then Peter came up and said to him, My Lord, if my brother is at fault with me, how many times should I forgive him? up to seven times? [21]Tunc accedens Petrus ad eum, dixit: Domine, quoties peccabit in me frater meus, et dimittam ei? usque septies?
[22]Jesus said to him, I do not say to you up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. [22]Dicit illi Jesus: Non dico tibi usque septies: sed usque septuagies septies.
[23]Therefore the kingdom of heaven is likened to a king who wanted to take an accounting from his servants. [23]Ideo assimilatum est regnum cælorum homini regi, qui voluit rationem ponere cum servis suis.
[24]And when he began to take the accounting, they brought to him one who owed ten thousand talents. [24]Et cum cœpisset rationem ponere, oblatus est ei unus, qui debebat ei decem millia talenta.
[25]And as he could not pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, together with his wife and children, and all that he had, so that he could pay. [25]Cum autem non haberet unde redderet, jussit eum dominus ejus venundari, et uxorem ejus, et filios, et omnia quæ habebat, et reddi.
[26]The servant then fell down, worshipped him, and said, My lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. [26]Procidens autem servus ille, orabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
[27]Then the master of that servant had pity, so he released him, and cancelled his debt. [27]Misertus autem dominus servi illius, dimisit eum, et debitum dimisit ei.
[28]But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him one hundred cents; and he seized him, and tried to choke him, saying to him, Give me what you owe me. [28]Egressus autem servus ille invenit unum de conservis suis, qui debebat ei centum denarios: et tenens suffocavit eum, dicens: Redde quod debes.
[29]So his fellow-servant fell down at his feet, and begged him and said, Have patience with me, and I will pay you. [29]Et procidens conservus ejus, rogabat eum, dicens: Patientiam habe in me, et omnia reddam tibi.
[30]But he was not willing; and he went and had him put into prison, until he should pay him what he owed him. [30]Ille autem noluit: sed abiit, et misit eum in carcerem donec redderet debitum.
[31]When their fellow-servants saw what had happened, they were very sorry, and they came and informed their master of everything that had happened. [31]Videntes autem conservi ejus quæ fiebant, contristati sunt valde: et venerunt, et narraverunt domino suo omnia quæ facta fuerant.
[32]Then his master called him and said to him, O wicked servant, I cancelled all your debt because you begged me. [32]Tunc vocavit illum dominus suus: et ait illi: Serve nequam, omne debitum dimisi tibi quoniam rogasti me:
[33]Was it not right for you to have mercy on your fellow-servant, just as I had mercy on you? [33]nonne ergo oportuit et te misereri conservi tui, sicut et ego tui misertus sum?
[34]So his master was angry, and delivered him to the scourgers, until he should pay everything he owed him. [34]Et iratus dominus ejus tradidit eum tortoribus, quoadusque redderet universum debitum.
[35]So will my Father in heaven do to you, if you do not forgive each man his brother's fault from your heart. [35]Sic et Pater meus cælestis faciet vobis, si non remiseritis unusquisque fratri suo de cordibus vestris.
