[1]And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, |
| [2]SendH7971[H8798] thou menH582, that they may searchH8446[H8799] the landH776 of CanaanH3667, which I giveH5414[H8802] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478: of everyH376 tribeH4294 of their fathersH1 shall ye sendH7971[H8799] a manH259, every one a ruler among themH5387. |
[2]Send thou men out to search the land of Canaan which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, such as are all rulers among them. |
| [3]And MosesH4872 by the commandmentH6310 of the LORDH3068 sentH7971[H8799] them from the wildernessH4057 of ParanH6290: all those menH582 wereH1992 headsH7218 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478. |
[3]Then Moses sent them out of the wilderness of Paran at the commandment of the Lord: all those men were heads of the children of Israel. |
| [4]And these were their namesH8034: of the tribeH4294 of ReubenH7205, ShammuaH8051 the sonH1121 of ZaccurH2139. |
[4]Also their names are these: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur: |
| [5]Of the tribeH4294 of SimeonH8095, ShaphatH8202 the sonH1121 of HoriH2753. |
[5]Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori: |
| [6]Of the tribeH4294 of JudahH3063, CalebH3612 the sonH1121 of JephunnehH3312. |
[6]Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh: |
| [7]Of the tribeH4294 of IssacharH3485, IgalH3008 the sonH1121 of JosephH3130. |
[7]Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph: |
| [8]Of the tribeH4294 of EphraimH669, OsheaH1954 the sonH1121 of NunH5126. |
[8]Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun: |
| [9]Of the tribeH4294 of BenjaminH1144, PaltiH6406 the sonH1121 of RaphuH7505. |
[9]Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu: |
| [10]Of the tribeH4294 of ZebulunH2074, GaddielH1427 the sonH1121 of SodiH5476. |
[10]Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi: |
| [11]Of the tribeH4294 of JosephH3130, namely, of the tribeH4294 of ManassehH4519, GaddiH1426 the sonH1121 of SusiH5485. |
[11]Of the tribe of Joseph, to wit, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi: |
| [12]Of the tribeH4294 of DanH1835, AmmielH5988 the sonH1121 of GemalliH1582. |
[12]Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli: |
| [13]Of the tribeH4294 of AsherH836, SethurH5639 the sonH1121 of MichaelH4317. |
[13]Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael: |
| [14]Of the tribeH4294 of NaphtaliH5321, NahbiH5147 the sonH1121 of VophsiH2058. |
[14]Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi: |
| [15]Of the tribeH4294 of GadH1410, GeuelH1345 the sonH1121 of MachiH4352. |
[15]Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi. |
| [16]These are the namesH8034 of the menH582 which MosesH4872 sentH7971[H8804] to spy outH8446[H8800] the landH776. And MosesH4872 calledH7121[H8799] OsheaH1954 the sonH1121 of NunH5126 JehoshuaH3091. |
[16]These are the names of the men, which Moses sent to spy out the land: and Moses called the name of Hoshea the son of Nun, Jehoshua [Joshua]. |
| [17]And MosesH4872 sentH7971[H8799] them to spy outH8446[H8800] the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and saidH559[H8799] unto them, Get you upH5927[H8798] this way southwardH5045, and go upH5927[H8804] into the mountainH2022: |
[17]So Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Go up this way toward the south, and go up into the mountains, |
| [18]And seeH7200[H8804] the landH776, what it is; and the peopleH5971 that dwellethH3427[H8802] therein, whether they be strongH2389 or weakH7504, fewH4592 or manyH7227; |
[18]And consider the land what it is, and the people that dwell therein, whether they be strong or weak, either few or many, |
| [19]And what the landH776 is that they dwell inH3427[H8802], whether it be goodH2896 or badH7451; and what citiesH5892 they be that they dwellH3427[H8802] inH2007, whether in tentsH4264, or in strong holdsH4013; |
[19]Also what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad: and what cities they be, that they dwell in, whether they dwell in tents, or in walled towns: |
| [20]And what the landH776 is, whether it be fatH8082 or leanH7330, whether there beH3426 woodH6086 therein, or not. And be ye of good courageH2388[H8694], and bringH3947[H8804] of the fruitH6529 of the landH776. Now the timeH3117 was the timeH3117 of the firstripeH1061 grapesH6025. |
[20]And what the land is: whether it be fat or lean, whether there be trees therein, or not. And be of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land (for then was the time of the first ripe grapes) |
| [21]So they went upH5927[H8799], and searchedH8446[H8799] the landH776 from the wildernessH4057 of ZinH6790 unto RehobH7340, as men comeH935[H8800] to HamathH2574. |
[21]So they went up, and searched out the land, from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, to go to Hamath, |
| [22]And they ascendedH5927[H8799] by the southH5045, and cameH935[H8799] unto HebronH2275; where AhimanH289, SheshaiH8344, and TalmaiH8526, the childrenH3211 of AnakH6061, were. (Now HebronH2275 was builtH1129[H8738] sevenH7651 yearsH8141 beforeH6440 ZoanH6814 in EgyptH4714.) |
[22]they ascended toward the south, and came unto Hebron, where were Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sons of Anak. And Hebron was built seven year before Zoan in Egypt. |
| [23]And they cameH935[H8799] unto the brookH5158 of EshcolH812, and cut downH3772[H8799] from thence a branchH2156 with oneH259 clusterH811 of grapesH6025, and they bareH5375[H8799] it between twoH8147 upon a staffH4132; and they brought of the pomegranatesH7416, and of the figsH8384. |
[23]Then they came to the river of Eshcol, and cut down thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it upon a bar between two, and brought of the pomegranates and of the figs. |
| [24]The placeH4725 was calledH7121[H8804] the brookH5158 EshcolH812, because ofH182 the cluster of grapesH811 which the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 cut downH3772 from thenceH8804. |
[24]That place was called the river Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes, which the children of Israel cut down thence. |
| [25]And they returnedH7725[H8799] from searchingH8446[H8800] of the landH776 afterH7093 fortyH705 daysH3117. |
[25]Then after forty days, they turned again from searching of the land. |
| [26]And they wentH3212[H8799] and cameH935[H8799] to MosesH4872, and to AaronH175, and to all the congregationH5712 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, unto the wildernessH4057 of ParanH6290, to KadeshH6946; and brought backH7725[H8686] wordH1697 unto them, and unto all the congregationH5712, and shewedH7200[H8686] them the fruitH6529 of the landH776. |
[26]And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, in the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh, and brought to them, and to all the congregation tidings, and showed them the fruit of the land. |
| [27]And they toldH5608[H8762] him, and saidH559[H8799], We cameH935[H8804] unto the landH776 whither thou sentestH7971[H8804] us, and surely it flowethH2100[H8802] with milkH2461 and honeyH1706; and this is the fruit of itH6529. |
[27]And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou hast sent us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey: and here is of the fruit of it. |
| [28]NeverthelessH657 the peopleH5971 be strongH5794 that dwellH3427[H8802] in the landH776, and the citiesH5892 are walledH1219[H8803], and veryH3966 greatH1419: and moreover we sawH7200[H8804] the childrenH3211 of Anak thereH6061. |
[28]Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled and exceeding great: and moreover, we saw the sons of Anak there. |
| [29]The AmalekitesH6002 dwellH3427[H8802] in the landH776 of the southH5045: and the HittitesH2850, and the JebusitesH2983, and the AmoritesH567, dwellH3427[H8802] in the mountainsH2022: and the CanaanitesH3669 dwellH3427[H8802] by the seaH3220, and by the coastH3027 of JordanH3383. |
[29]The Amalekites dwell in the south country, and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains, and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan. |
| [30]And CalebH3612 stilledH2013[H8686] the peopleH5971 before MosesH4872, and saidH559[H8799], Let us go upH5927[H8799] at onceH5927[H8800], and possessH3423[H8804] it; for we are well ableH3201[H8799] to overcomeH3201 itH8800. |
[30]Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it: for undoubtedly we shall overcome it. |
| [31]But the menH582 that went upH5927[H8804] with him saidH559[H8804], We be not ableH3201[H8799] to go upH5927[H8800] against the peopleH5971; for they are stronger than weH2389. |
[31]But the men, that went up with him, said, we be not able to go up against the people: for they are stronger than we. |
| [32]And they brought upH3318[H8686] an evil reportH1681 of the landH776 which they had searchedH8446[H8804] unto the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, sayingH559[H8800], The landH776, through which we have goneH5674[H8804] to searchH8446[H8800] it, is a landH776 that eateth upH398[H8802] the inhabitantsH3427[H8802] thereof; and all the peopleH5971 that we sawH7200[H8804] in itH8432 are menH582 of a great statureH4060. |
[32]So they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched for the children of Israel, saying, The land which we have gone through to search it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof: for all the people that we saw in it, are men of great stature. |
| [33]And there we sawH7200[H8804] the giantsH5303, the sonsH1121 of AnakH6061, which come of the giantsH5303: and we were in our own sightH5869 as grasshoppersH2284, and so we were in their sightH5869. |
[33]For there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants, so that we seemed in our sight like grasshoppers: and so we were in their sight. |
