[1]O GIVE thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever. [1]Praise the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
[2]Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, [2]Let them, which have been redeemed of the Lord, show how he hath delivered them from the hand of the oppressor,
[3]And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the islands in the sea. [3]And gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
[4]They were lost in the wilderness in a place without water; they found not the right way to an inhabited town. [4]When they wandered in the desert and wilderness out of the way, and found no city to dwell in,
[5]Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. [5]Both hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
[6]Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses, [6]Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress,
[7]And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to inhabited villages. [7]And led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
[8]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men! [8]Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men.
[9]For he satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness, [9]For he satisfied the thirsty soul, and filled the hungry soul with goodness.
[10]Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; [10]They that dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in misery and iron,
[11]Because they murmured against the words of God, and scorned the counsel of the most High; [11]Because they rebelled against the words of the Lord, and despised the counsel of the Most High,
[12]Therefore he brought down their hearts with labor; they became weak and there was none to help. [12]When he humbled their heart with heaviness, then they fell down and there was no helper.
[13]Then they prayed to the LORD in their trouble and he saved them out of their distresses. [13]Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.
[14]He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder. [14]He brought them out of darkness, and out of the shadow of death, and brake their bands asunder.
[15]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men. [15]Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men.
[16]For he has broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron asunder. [16]For he hath broken the gates of brass, and burst the bars of iron asunder.
[17]He helped them out of the way of their sins, he relieved them of their afflictions. [17]Fools by reason of their transgression, and because of their iniquities are afflicted.
[18]Their soul abhorred all manner of food, and they drew near to the gates of death. [18]Their soul abhorreth all meat, and they are brought to death's door.
[19]Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. [19]Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivereth them from their distress.
[20]He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from destruction. [20]He sendeth his word and healeth them, and delivereth them from their graves.
[21]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him, for his mercies are upon the children of men! [21]Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men,
[22]Sacrifice to him the sacrifices of praise, and glorify him, O you, his servants, for his wonders. [22]And let them offer sacrifices of praise, and declare his works with rejoicing.
[23]They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, [23]They that go down to the sea in ships, and occupy by the great waters,
[24]These see the works of the LORD and his wonders in the deep. [24]They see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
[25]For he commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof. [25]For he commandeth and raiseth the stormy wind, and it lifteth up the waves thereof.
[26]They mount up to the sky; then they go down again to the depths; their soul is troubled within them. [26]They mount up to the heaven, and descend to the deep, so that their soul melteth for trouble.
[27]They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end. [27]They are tossed to and from, and stagger like a drunken man, and all their cunning is gone.
[28]Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble and he brings them out of their distresses. [28]Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble , and he bringeth them out of their distress.
[29]He makes the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. [29]He turneth the storm to calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
[30]Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he brings them to their desired haven. [30]When they are quieted, they are glad, and he bringeth them unto the haven, where they would be.
[31]Let the righteous of the LORD give thanks to him; for his mercies are upon the children of men. [31]Let them therefore confess before the Lord his loving kindness, and his wonderful works before the sons of men.
[32]Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. [32]And let them exalt him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
[33]He turns rivers into a wilderness and the water-springs into dry ground, [33]He turneth the floods into a wilderness, and the springs of waters into dryness,
[34]A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. [34]And a fruitful land into barrenness for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
[35]He turns the wilderness into pools of water and dry land into watersprings. [35]Again he turneth the wilderness into pools of water, and the dry land into water springs.
[36]And there he makes the hungry to dwell, that they may build villages and settle, [36]And there he placeth the hungry, and they build a city to dwell in,
[37]And sow the fields and plant vineyards, and eat of the fruits thereof. [37]And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which bring forth fruitful increase.
[38]He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffers not their cattle to decrease. [38]For he blesseth them, and they multiply exceedingly, and he diminisheth not their cattle.
[39]Again, they are diminished and humbled through oppression, affliction, and misery. [39]Again men are diminished, and brought low by oppression, evil and sorrow.
[40]He pours contempt upon rulers, and causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way. [40]He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to err in desert places out of the way.
[41]He strengthens the poor and he multiplies their families like a flock. [41]Yet he raiseth up the poor out of misery, and maketh him families like a flock of sheep.
[42]The righteous shall see it, and rejoice; and all the ungodly shall shut their mouths. [42]The righteous shall see it, and rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
[43]Whosoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD. [43]Who is wise that he may observe these things? For they shall understand the loving kindness of the Lord.
