The Septuagint
LXX
Peshitta (Lamsa, 1933)
Pes(Lam)
[1]συνέσεως τῷ ασαφ ἵνα τί ἀπώσω ὁ θεός εἰς τέλος ὠργίσθη ὁ θυμός σου ἐπὶ πρόβατα νομῆς σου [1]TRULY God is good to Israel, and to those who are pure in heart.
[2]μνήσθητι τῆς συναγωγῆς σου ἧς ἐκτήσω ἀπ ἀρχῆς ἐλυτρώσω ῥάβδον κληρονομίας σου ὄρος σιων τοῦτο ὃ κατεσκήνωσας ἐν αὐτῷ [2]But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
[3]ἔπαρον τὰς χεῖράς σου ἐπὶ τὰς ὑπερηφανίας αὐτῶν εἰς τέλος ὅσα ἐπονηρεύσατο ὁ ἐχθρὸς ἐν τοῖς ἁγίοις σου [3]For I was envious of the wicked when I saw the prosperity of the ungodly.
[4]καὶ ἐνεκαυχήσαντο οἱ μισοῦντές σε ἐν μέσῳ τῆς ἑορτῆς σου ἔθεντο τὰ σημεῖα αὐτῶν σημεῖα καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωσαν [4]For there is no end to their death, and their folly is great.
[5]ὡς εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον ὑπεράνω [5]They share not in the toil of men; neither are they scourged like other men.
[6]ὡς ἐν δρυμῷ ξύλων ἀξίναις ἐξέκοψαν τὰς θύρας αὐτῆς ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἐν πελέκει καὶ λαξευτηρίῳ κατέρραξαν αὐτήν [6]Therefore pride holds them fast; they have concealed their wickedness and ungodliness.
[7]ἐνεπύρισαν ἐν πυρὶ τὸ ἁγιαστήριόν σου εἰς τὴν γῆν ἐβεβήλωσαν τὸ σκήνωμα τοῦ ὀνόματός σου [7]Their iniquity comes through like grease; they do according to the evil dictates of the heart.
[8]εἶπαν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν ἡ συγγένεια αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό δεῦτε καὶ κατακαύσωμεν πάσας τὰς ἑορτὰς τοῦ θεοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς [8]They imagine and speak evil things: they talk unjustly against the most High.
[9]τὰ σημεῖα ἡμῶν οὐκ εἴδομεν οὐκ ἔστιν ἔτι προφήτης καὶ ἡμᾶς οὐ γνώσεται ἔτι [9]They have set their mouths in the sky, but their tongues drag in the dirt;
[10]ἕως πότε ὁ θεός ὀνειδιεῖ ὁ ἐχθρός παροξυνεῖ ὁ ὑπεναντίος τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τέλος [10]Therefore will my people return hither, and they shall have everything in abundance.
[11]ἵνα τί ἀποστρέφεις τὴν χεῖρά σου καὶ τὴν δεξιάν σου ἐκ μέσου τοῦ κόλπου σου εἰς τέλος [11]They shall say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
[12]ὁ δὲ θεὸς βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν πρὸ αἰῶνος εἰργάσατο σωτηρίαν ἐν μέσῳ τῆς γῆς [12]Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they are strong in power.
[13]σὺ ἐκραταίωσας ἐν τῇ δυνάμει σου τὴν θάλασσαν σὺ συνέτριψας τὰς κεφαλὰς τῶν δρακόντων ἐπὶ τοῦ ὕδατος [13]As for me, I have cleansed my heart, and washed my hands in innocence.
[14]σὺ συνέθλασας τὰς κεφαλὰς τοῦ δράκοντος ἔδωκας αὐτὸν βρῶμα λαοῖς τοῖς αἰθίοψιν [14]All the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
[15]σὺ διέρρηξας πηγὰς καὶ χειμάρρους σὺ ἐξήρανας ποταμοὺς ηθαμ [15]If I say, I shall do as they do, this is sinful for me.
[16]σή ἐστιν ἡ ἡμέρα καὶ σή ἐστιν ἡ νύξ σὺ κατηρτίσω φαῦσιν καὶ ἥλιον [16]When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me.
[17]σὺ ἐποίησας πάντα τὰ ὅρια τῆς γῆς θέρος καὶ ἔαρ σὺ ἔπλασας αὐτά [17]Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
[18]μνήσθητι ταύτης ἐχθρὸς ὠνείδισεν τὸν κύριον καὶ λαὸς ἄφρων παρώξυνεν τὸ ὄνομά σου [18]Thou didst appoint their portion according to their deceitfulness; thou didst cast them down when they exalted themselves.
[19]μὴ παραδῷς τοῖς θηρίοις ψυχὴν ἐξομολογουμένην σοι τῶν ψυχῶν τῶν πενήτων σου μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ εἰς τέλος [19]How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.
[20]ἐπίβλεψον εἰς τὴν διαθήκην σου ὅτι ἐπληρώθησαν οἱ ἐσκοτισμένοι τῆς γῆς οἴκων ἀνομιῶν [20]As one who awakes from a dream, so, O LORD, thou shalt despise their idolatry.
[21]μὴ ἀποστραφήτω τεταπεινωμένος κατῃσχυμμένος πτωχὸς καὶ πένης αἰνέσουσιν τὸ ὄνομά σου [21]Thus my heart was grieved, and my conscience troubled me.
[22]ἀνάστα ὁ θεός δίκασον τὴν δίκην σου μνήσθητι τῶν ὀνειδισμῶν σου τῶν ὑπὸ ἄφρονος ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν [22]So foolish was I, and ignorant; I was as a beast before thee.
[23]μὴ ἐπιλάθῃ τῆς φωνῆς τῶν ἱκετῶν σου ἡ ὑπερηφανία τῶν μισούντων σε ἀνέβη διὰ παντὸς πρὸς σέ [23]Thou shalt comfort me with thy counsel, and lead me according to thy honour.
24[No verse] [24]Whom have I in heaven but thee? and whom have I desired upon earth besides thee?
25[No verse] [25]Nevertheless I am continually with thee; thou hast held me by my right hand.
26[No verse] [26]My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
27[No verse] [27]For lo, they that are far from thee shall perish; thou hast destroyed all them that go astray from thee.
28[No verse] [28]I was pleased to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the LORD God, that I mar declare all thy works.
