[1]And in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, came certain of the elders of Israel to inquire of the Lord, and sat before me. |
| [2]Then came the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[2]Then came the word of the Lord unto me, saying, |
| [3]SonH1121 of manH120, speakH1696[H8761] unto the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478, and sayH559[H8804] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Are ye comeH935[H8802] to enquireH1875[H8800] of me? As I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, I will not be enquiredH1875 of by youH8735. |
[3]Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God, Are ye come to inquire of me? As I live, saith the Lord God, when I am asked, I will not answer you. |
| [4]Wilt thou judgeH8199[H8799] them, sonH1121 of manH120, wilt thou judgeH8199[H8799] them? cause them to knowH3045[H8685] the abominationsH8441 of their fathersH1: |
[4]Wilt thou judge them, son of man? Wilt thou judge them? Cause them to understand the abominations of their fathers, |
| [5]And sayH559[H8804] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; In the dayH3117 when I choseH977[H8800] IsraelH3478, and lifted upH5375[H8799] mine handH3027 unto the seedH2233 of the houseH1004 of JacobH3290, and made myself knownH3045[H8735] unto them in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, when I liftedH5375[H8799] up mine handH3027 unto them, sayingH559[H8800], I am the LORDH3068 your GodH430; |
[5]And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God, In the day when I chose Israel, and lift up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lift up mine hand unto them, and said, I am the Lord your God, |
| [6]In the dayH3117 that I lifted upH5375[H8804] mine handH3027 unto them, to bring them forthH3318[H8687] of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 into a landH776 that I had espiedH8446[H8804] for them, flowingH2100[H8802] with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, which is the gloryH6643 of all landsH776: |
[6]In the day that I lift up mine hand unto them to bring them forth of the land of Egypt, into a land that I had provided for them, flowing with milk and honey which is pleasant among all lands, |
| [7]Then saidH559[H8799] I unto them, Cast ye awayH7993[H8685] every manH376 the abominationsH8251 of his eyesH5869, and defileH2930[H8691] not yourselves with the idolsH1544 of EgyptH4714: I am the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[7]Then said I unto them, Let every man cast away the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: for I am the Lord your God. |
| [8]But they rebelledH4784[H8686] against me, and wouldH14[H8804] not hearkenH8085[H8800] unto me: they did not every manH376 cast awayH7993[H8689] the abominationsH8251 of their eyesH5869, neither did they forsakeH5800[H8804] the idolsH1544 of EgyptH4714: then I saidH559[H8799], I will pour outH8210[H8800] my furyH2534 upon them, to accomplishH3615[H8763] my angerH639 against them in the midstH8432 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[8]But they rebelled against me, and would not hear me: for none cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I thought to pour out mine indignation upon them, and to accomplish my wrath against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. |
| [9]But I wroughtH6213[H8799] for my name'sH8034 sake, that it should not be pollutedH2490[H8736] beforeH5869 the heathenH1471, amongH8432 whom they were, in whose sightH5869 I made myself knownH3045[H8738] unto them, in bringing them forthH3318[H8687] out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. |
[9]But I had respect to my name, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, and in whose sight I made myself known unto them in bringing them forth of the land of Egypt. |
| [10]Wherefore I caused them to go forthH3318[H8686] out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and broughtH935[H8686] them into the wildernessH4057. |
[10]Now I carried them out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. |
| [11]And I gaveH5414[H8799] them my statutesH2708, and shewedH3045[H8689] them my judgmentsH4941, which if a manH120 doH6213[H8799], he shall even liveH2425 in themH8804. |
[11]And I gave them my statutes, and declared my judgments unto them, which if a man do, he shall live in them. |
| [12]Moreover also I gaveH5414[H8804] them my sabbathsH7676, to be a signH226 between me and them, that they might knowH3045[H8800] that I am the LORDH3068 that sanctifyH6942 themH8764. |
[12]Moreover I gave them also my Sabbaths to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord, that sanctify them. |
| [13]But the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 rebelledH4784[H8686] against me in the wildernessH4057: they walkedH1980[H8804] not in my statutesH2708, and they despisedH3988[H8804] my judgmentsH4941, which if a manH120 doH6213[H8799], he shall even liveH2425[H8804] in them; and my sabbathsH7676 they greatlyH3966 pollutedH2490[H8765]: then I saidH559[H8799], I would pour outH8210[H8800] my furyH2534 upon them in the wildernessH4057, to consumeH3615 themH8763. |
[13]But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they cast away my judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them, and my Sabbaths have they greatly polluted: then I thought to pour out mine indignation upon them in the wilderness to consume them, |
| [14]But I wroughtH6213[H8799] for my name'sH8034 sake, that it should not be pollutedH2490[H8736] beforeH5869 the heathenH1471, in whose sightH5869 I brought them outH3318.[H8689] |
[14]But I had respect to my name, that it should not be polluted before the heathen in whose sight I brought them out. |
| [15]Yet also I lifted upH5375[H8804] my handH3027 unto them in the wildernessH4057, that I would not bringH935[H8687] them into the landH776 which I had givenH5414[H8804] them, flowingH2100[H8802] with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, which is the gloryH6643 of all landsH776; |
[15]Yet nevertheless, I lift up mine hand unto them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land, which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which was pleasant above all lands, |
| [16]Because they despisedH3988[H8804] my judgmentsH4941, and walkedH1980[H8804] not in my statutesH2708, but pollutedH2490[H8765] my sabbathsH7676: for their heartH3820 wentH1980[H8802] afterH310 their idolsH1544. |
[16]Because they cast away my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but have polluted my Sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. |
| [17]Nevertheless mine eyeH5869 sparedH2347[H8799] them from destroyingH7843[H8763] them, neither did I makeH6213[H8804] an endH3617 of them in the wildernessH4057. |
[17]Nevertheless, mine eye spared them, that I would not destroy them, neither would I consume them in the wilderness. |
| [18]But I saidH559[H8799] unto their childrenH1121 in the wildernessH4057, WalkH3212[H8799] ye not in the statutesH2706 of your fathersH1, neither observeH8104[H8799] their judgmentsH4941, nor defileH2930[H8691] yourselves with their idolsH1544: |
[18]But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the ordinances of your fathers, neither observe their manners, nor defile yourselves with their idols. |
| [19]I am the LORDH3068 your GodH430; walkH3212[H8798] in my statutesH2708, and keepH8104[H8798] my judgmentsH4941, and doH6213 themH8798; |
[19]I am the Lord your God: walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments and do them, |
| [20]And hallowH6942[H8761] my sabbathsH7676; and they shall be a signH226 between me and you, that ye may knowH3045[H8800] that I am the LORDH3068 your GodH430. |
[20]And sanctify my Sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God. |

[21]Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, nor kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall live in them, but they polluted my Sabbaths: then I thought to pour out mine indignation upon them, and to accomplish my wrath against them in the wilderness. |
| [22]Nevertheless I withdrewH7725[H8689] mine handH3027, and wroughtH6213[H8799] for my name'sH8034 sake, that it should not be pollutedH2490[H8736] in the sightH5869 of the heathenH1471, in whose sightH5869 I brought them forthH3318.[H8689] |
[22]Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand and had respect to my name that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth. |
| [23]I lifted upH5375[H8804] mine handH3027 unto them also in the wildernessH4057, that I would scatterH6327[H8687] them among the heathenH1471, and disperseH2219[H8763] them through the countriesH776; |
[23]Yet I lift up mine hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries, |
| [24]Because they had not executedH6213[H8804] my judgmentsH4941, but had despisedH3988[H8804] my statutesH2708, and had pollutedH2490[H8765] my sabbathsH7676, and their eyesH5869 were afterH310 their fathers'H1 idolsH1544. |
[24]Because they had not executed my judgments, but had cast away my statutes and had polluted my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their father's idols. |
| [25]Wherefore I gaveH5414[H8804] them also statutesH2706 that were not goodH2896, and judgmentsH4941 H2421whereby they should not liveH8799 |
[25]Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments, wherein they should not live. |
| [26]And I pollutedH2930[H8762] them in their own giftsH4979, in that they caused to pass throughH5674[H8687] the fire all that openethH6363 the wombH7356, that I might make them desolateH8074[H8686], to the end that they might knowH3045[H8799] that I am the LORDH3068. |
[26]And I polluted them in their own gifts in that they caused to pass by the fire all that first openeth the womb, that I might destroy them, to the end that they might know that I am the Lord. |
| [27]Therefore, sonH1121 of manH120, speakH1696[H8761] unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, and sayH559[H8804] unto them, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Yet in this your fathersH1 have blasphemedH1442[H8765] me, in that they have committedH4603[H8800] a trespass against meH4604. |
[27]Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God, Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, though they had before grievously transgressed against me. |
| [28]For when I had broughtH935[H8686] them into the landH776, for the which I lifted upH5375[H8804] mine handH3027 to giveH5414[H8800] it to them, then they sawH7200[H8799] every highH7311[H8802] hillH1389, and all the thickH5687 treesH6086, and they offeredH2076[H8799] there their sacrificesH2077, and there they presentedH5414[H8799] the provocationH3708 of their offeringH7133: there also they madeH7760[H8799] their sweetH5207 savourH7381, and poured outH5258[H8686] there their drink offeringsH5262. |
[28]For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented their offering of provocation: there also they made their sweet savor, and poured out there their drink offerings. |
| [29]Then I saidH559[H8799] unto them, What is the high placeH1116 whereunto ye goH935[H8802]? And the nameH8034 thereof is calledH7121[H8735] BamahH1117 unto this dayH3117. |
[29]Then I said unto them, What is the high place where unto ye go? And the name thereof was called Bamah unto this day. |
| [30]Wherefore sayH559[H8798] unto the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Are ye pollutedH2930[H8737] after the mannerH1870 of your fathersH1? and commit ye whoredomH2181[H8802] afterH310 their abominationsH8251? |
[30]Wherefore, say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God, Are ye not polluted after the manner of your fathers? And commit ye not whoredom after their abominations? |
| [31]For when ye offerH5375[H8800] your giftsH4979, when ye make your sonsH1121 to pass throughH5674[H8687] the fireH784, ye polluteH2930[H8737] yourselves with all your idolsH1544, even unto this dayH3117: and shall I be enquiredH1875[H8735] of by you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478? As I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, I will not be enquiredH1875 of by youH8735. |
[31]For when you offer your gifts, and make your sons to pass through the fire, you pollute yourselves with all your idols unto this day: shall I answer you when I am asked, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not answer you when I am asked. |
| [32]And that which comethH5927[H8802] into your mindH7307 shall not be at all, that ye sayH559[H8802], We will beH1961[H8799] as the heathenH1471, as the familiesH4940 of the countriesH776, to serveH8334[H8763] woodH6086 and stoneH68. |
[32]Neither shall that be done that cometh into your mind: for ye say, We will be as the heathen, and as the families of the countries, and serve wood, and stone. |
| [33]As I liveH2416, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, surely with a mightyH2389 handH3027, and with a stretched outH5186[H8803] armH2220, and with furyH2534 poured outH8210[H8803], will I ruleH4427 over youH8799: |
[33]As I live, saith the Lord God, I will surely rule you with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and in my wrath poured out, |
| [34]And I will bring you outH3318[H8689] from the peopleH5971, and will gatherH6908[H8765] you out of the countriesH776 wherein ye are scatteredH6327[H8738], with a mightyH2389 handH3027, and with a stretched outH5186[H8803] armH2220, and with furyH2534 poured outH8210.[H8803] |
[34]And will bring you from the people, and will gather you out of the countries, wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and in my wrath poured out, |
| [35]And I will bringH935[H8689] you into the wildernessH4057 of the peopleH5971, and there will I pleadH8199[H8738] with you faceH6440 to faceH6440. |
[35]And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. |
| [36]Like as I pleadedH8199[H8738] with your fathersH1 in the wildernessH4057 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, so will I pleadH8199[H8735] with you, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. |
[36]Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord God. |
| [37]And I will cause you to passH5674[H8689] under the rodH7626, and I will bringH935[H8689] you into the bondH4562 of the covenantH1285: |
[37]And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and will bring you into the bond of the covenant. |
| [38]And I will purge outH1305[H8804] from among you the rebelsH4775[H8802], and them that transgressH6586[H8802] against me: I will bring them forthH3318[H8686] out of the countryH776 where they sojournH4033, and they shall not enterH935[H8799] into the landH127 of IsraelH3478: and ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068. |
[38]And I will choose out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them out of the land where they dwell, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel, and you shall know that I am the Lord. |
| [39]As for you, O houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; GoH3212[H8798] ye, serveH5647[H8798] ye every oneH376 his idolsH1544, and hereafterH310 also, if ye will not hearkenH8085[H8802] unto me: but polluteH2490[H8762] ye my holyH6944 nameH8034 no more with your giftsH4979, and with your idolsH1544. |
[39]As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord God, Go you, and serve every one his idol, seeing that ye will not obey me, and pollute mine holy name no more with your gifts and with your idols. |
| [40]For in mine holyH6944 mountainH2022, in the mountainH2022 of the heightH4791 of IsraelH3478, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069, there shall all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, all of them in the landH776, serveH5647[H8799] me: there will I acceptH7521[H8799] them, and there will I requireH1875[H8799] your offeringsH8641, and the firstfruitsH7225 of your oblationsH4864, with all your holy thingsH6944. |
[40]For in mine holy mountain, even in the high mountain of Israel, saith the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel, and all in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings and the first fruits of your oblations, with all your holy things. |
| [41]I will acceptH7521[H8799] you with your sweetH5207 savourH7381, when I bring you outH3318[H8687] from the peopleH5971, and gatherH6908[H8765] you out of the countriesH776 wherein ye have been scatteredH6327[H8738]; and I will be sanctifiedH6942[H8738] in you beforeH5869 the heathenH1471. |
[41]I will accept your sweet savor, when I bring you from the people, and gather you out of the countries, wherein ye have been scattered, that I may be sanctified in you before the heathen. |
| [42]And ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068, when I shall bringH935[H8687] you into the landH127 of IsraelH3478, into the countryH776 for the which I lifted upH5375[H8804] mine handH3027 to giveH5414[H8800] it to your fathersH1. |
[42]And ye shall know, that I am the Lord, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers. |
| [43]And there shall ye rememberH2142[H8804] your waysH1870, and all your doingsH5949, wherein ye have been defiledH2930[H8738]; and ye shall lotheH6962[H8738] yourselves in your own sightH6440 for all your evilsH7451 that ye have committedH6213.[H8804] |
[43]And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your works, wherein ye have been defiled, and ye shall judge yourselves worthy to be cut off, for all your evils, that ye have committed. |
| [44]And ye shall knowH3045[H8804] that I am the LORDH3068, when I have wroughtH6213[H8800] with you for my name'sH8034 sake, not according to your wickedH7451 waysH1870, nor according to your corruptH7843[H8737] doingsH5949, O ye houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. |
[44]And ye shall know, that I am the Lord, when I have respect unto you for my name's sake, and not after your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt works, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord God. |
| [45]Moreover the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] |
[45]Moreover, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, |
| [46]SonH1121 of manH120, setH7760[H8798] thy faceH6440 towardH1870 the southH8486, and dropH5197[H8685] thy word toward the southH1864, and prophesyH5012[H8734] against the forestH3293 of the southH5045 fieldH7704; |
[46]Son of man, set thy face toward the way of Teman, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy toward the forest of the field of the south, |
| [47]And sayH559[H8804] to the forestH3293 of the southH5045, HearH8085[H8798] the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068; Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Behold, I will kindleH3341[H8688] a fireH784 in thee, and it shall devourH398[H8804] every greenH3892 treeH6086 in thee, and every dryH3002 treeH6086: the flamingH3852 flameH7957 shall not be quenchedH3518[H8799], and all facesH6440 from the southH5045 to the northH6828 shall be burnedH6866 thereinH8738. |
[47]And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the Lord: thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour all the green wood in thee, and all the dry wood: the continual flame shall not be quenched, and every face from the south to the north shall be burned therein. |
| [48]And all fleshH1320 shall seeH7200[H8804] that I the LORDH3068 have kindledH1197[H8765] it: it shall not be quenchedH3518.[H8799] |
[48]And all flesh shall see, that I the Lord have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched. Then said I, Ah Lord God, they say of me, Doth not he speak parables? |
| [49]Then saidH559[H8799] I, AhH162 LordH136 GODH3069! they sayH559[H8802] of me, Doth he not speakH4911[H8764] parablesH4912? |
