[1]And the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] [1]The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,
[2]SonH1121 of manH120, setH7760[H8798] thy faceH6440 toward JerusalemH3389, and dropH5197[H8685] thy word toward the holy placesH4720, and prophesyH5012[H8734] against the landH127 of IsraelH3478, [2]Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel.
[3]And sayH559[H8804] to the landH127 of IsraelH3478, Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forthH3318[H8689] my swordH2719 out of his sheathH8593, and will cut offH3772[H8689] from thee the righteousH6662 and the wickedH7563. [3]And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I come against thee, and will draw my sword out of his sheath, and cut off from thee both the righteous and the wicked.
[4]SeeingH3282 then that I will cut offH3772[H8689] from thee the righteousH6662 and the wickedH7563, therefore shall my swordH2719 go forthH3318[H8799] out of his sheathH8593 against all fleshH1320 from the southH5045 to the northH6828: [4]Seeing then that I will cut off from thee both the righteous and wicked, therefore shall my sword go out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north,
[5]That all fleshH1320 may knowH3045[H8804] that I the LORDH3068 have drawn forthH3318[H8689] my swordH2719 out of his sheathH8593: it shall not returnH7725 any moreH8799. [5]That all flesh may know that I the Lord have drawn my sword out of his sheath, and it shall not return anymore.
[6]SighH584[H8734] therefore, thou sonH1121 of manH120, with the breakingH7670 of thy loinsH4975; and with bitternessH4814 sighH584[H8735] before their eyesH5869. [6]Mourn therefore, thou son of man, as in the pain of thy reins, and mourn bitterly before them.
[7]And it shall be, when they sayH559[H8799] unto thee, Wherefore sighestH584[H8737] thou? that thou shalt answerH559[H8804], For the tidingsH8052; because it comethH935[H8802]: and every heartH3820 shall meltH4549[H8738], and all handsH3027 shall be feebleH7503[H8804], and every spiritH7307 shall faintH3543[H8765], and all kneesH1290 shall be weakH3212[H8799] as waterH4325: behold, it comethH935[H8802], and shall be brought to passH1961[H8738], saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. [7]And if they say unto thee, Wherefore mournest thou? Then answer, Because of the bruit: for it cometh, and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be weak, and all minds shall faint, and all knees shall fall away as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be done, saith the Lord God.
[8]Again the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me, sayingH559,[H8800] [8]Again, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
[9]SonH1121 of manH120, prophesyH5012[H8734], and sayH559[H8804], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LORDH3068; SayH559[H8798], A swordH2719, a swordH2719 is sharpenedH2300[H8717], and also furbishedH4803:[H8803] [9]Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord God, say, A sword, a sword both sharp, and furbished.
[10]It is sharpenedH2300[H8717] to make a soreH2874 slaughterH2873[H8800]; it is furbishedH4178[H8794] that it may glitterH1300: shouldH176 we then make mirthH7797[H8799]? it contemnethH3988[H8802] the rodH7626 of my sonH1121, as every treeH6086. [10]It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter, and it is furbished that it may glitter: how shall we rejoice? For it contemneth the rod of my son, as all other trees.
[11]And he hath givenH5414[H8799] it to be furbishedH4803[H8800], that it may be handledH3709[H8610][H8800]: this swordH2719 is sharpenedH2300[H8717], and it is furbishedH4178[H8794], to giveH5414[H8800] it into the handH3027 of the slayerH2026.[H8802] [11]And he hath given it to be furbished, that he may handle it: this sword is sharp, and is furbished, that he may give it into the hand of the slayer.
[12]CryH2199[H8798] and howlH3213[H8685], sonH1121 of manH120: for it shall be upon my peopleH5971, it shall be upon all the princesH5387 of IsraelH3478: terrorsH4048[H8803] by reason ofH413 the swordH2719 shall be upon my peopleH5971: smiteH5606[H8798] therefore upon thy thighH3409. [12]Cry, and howl, son of man: for this shall come to my people, and it shall come unto all the princes of Israel: the terrors of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh.
[13]Because it is a trialH974[H8795], and what if the sword contemnH3988[H8802] even the rodH7626? it shall be no more, saithH5002[H8803] the LordH136 GODH3069. [13]For it is a trial, and what shall this be, if the sword contemn even the rod? It shall be no more, saith the Lord God.
[14]Thou therefore, sonH1121 of manH120, prophesyH5012[H8734], and smiteH5221 thine handsH3709[H3709] togetherH5221[H8685], and let the swordH2719 be doubledH3717[H8735] the thirdH7992 time, the swordH2719 of the slainH2491: it is the swordH2719 of the greatH1419 men that are slainH2491, which entereth into their privy chambersH2314.[H8802] [14]Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite hand to hand, and let the sword be doubled: let the sword that hath killed, return the third time: it is the sword of the great slaughter entering into their privy chambers.
[15]I have setH5414[H8804] the pointH19 of the swordH2719 against all their gatesH8179, that their heartH3820 may faintH4127[H8800], and their ruinsH4383 be multipliedH7235[H8687]: ahH253! it is madeH6213[H8803] brightH1300, it is wrapped upH4593 for the slaughterH2874. [15]I have brought the fear of the sword into all their gates to make their heart to faint, and to multiply their ruins. Ah it is made bright, and it is dressed for the slaughter.
[16]Go thee one way or otherH258[H8690], either onH7760[H8685] the right handH3231[H8685], or on the leftH8041[H8685], whithersoeverH575 thy faceH6440 is setH3259.[H8716] [16]Get thee alone: go to the right hand, or get thyself to the left hand, whithersoever thy face turneth.
[17]I will also smiteH5221[H8686] mine handsH3709 togetherH3709, and I will cause my furyH2534 to restH5117[H8689]: I the LORDH3068 have saidH1696 itH8765. [17]I will also smite mine hands together, and will cause my wrath to cease. I the Lord have said it.
[18]The wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto me again, sayingH559,[H8800] [18]The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying,
[19]Also, thou sonH1121 of manH120, appointH7760[H8798] thee twoH8147 waysH1870, that the swordH2719 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 may comeH935[H8800]: both twainH8147 shall come forthH3318[H8799] out of oneH259 landH776: and chooseH1254[H8761] thou a placeH3027, chooseH1254[H8761] it at the headH7218 of the wayH1870 to the cityH5892. [19]Also thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come out of one land, and choose a place, and choose it in the corner of the way of the city.
[20]AppointH7760[H8799] a wayH1870, that the swordH2719 may comeH935[H8800] to RabbathH7237 of the AmmonitesH1121[H5983], and to JudahH3063 in JerusalemH3389 the defencedH1219.[H8803] [20]Appoint a way that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the strong city.
[21]For the kingH4428 of BabylonH894 stoodH5975[H8804] at the partingH517 of the wayH1870, at the headH7218 of the twoH8147 waysH1870, to useH7080[H8800] divinationH7081: he made his arrowsH2671 brightH7043[H8773], he consultedH7592[H8804] with imagesH8655, he lookedH7200[H8804] in the liverH3516. [21]And the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, consulting by divination, and made his arrows bright: he consulted with idols, and looked in the liver.
[22]At his right handH3225 was the divinationH7081 for JerusalemH3389, to appointH7760[H8800] captainsH3733, to openH6605[H8800] the mouthH6310 in the slaughterH7524, to lift upH7311[H8687] the voiceH6963 with shoutingH8643, to appointH7760[H8800] battering ramsH3733 against the gatesH8179, to castH8210[H8800] a mountH5550, and to buildH1129[H8800] a fortH1785. [22]At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem to appoint captains, to open their mouth in the slaughter, and to lift up their voice with shouting, to lay engines of war against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fortress.
[23]And it shall be unto them as a falseH7723 divinationH7080[H8800] in their sightH5869, to them that have swornH7650[H8803] oathsH7621: but he will call to remembranceH2142[H8688] the iniquityH5771, that they may be takenH8610.[H8736] [23]And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight for the oaths made unto them: but he will call to remembrance their iniquity, to the intent they should be taken.
[24]Therefore thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; Because ye have made your iniquityH5771 to be rememberedH2142[H8687], in that your transgressionsH6588 are discoveredH1540[H8736], so that in all your doingsH5949 your sinsH2403 do appearH7200[H8736]; because, I say, that ye are come to remembranceH2142[H8736], ye shall be takenH8610[H8735] with the handH3709. [24]Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in discovering your rebellion, that in all your works your sins might appear: because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
[25]And thou, profaneH2491 wickedH7563 princeH5387 of IsraelH3478, whose dayH3117 is comeH935[H8804], whenH6256 iniquityH5771 shall have an endH7093, [25]And thou prince of Israel polluted, and wicked, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,
[26]Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069; RemoveH5493[H8685] the diademH4701, and take offH7311[H8685] the crownH5850: this shall not be the sameH2063: exaltH1361[H8687] him that is lowH8217, and abaseH8213[H8687] him that is highH1364. [26]Thus saith the Lord God, I will take away the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall be no more the same: I will exalt the humble, and will abase him that is high.
[27]I will overturnH5754, overturnH5754, overturnH5754, it: and it shall beH7760[H8799] no more, until he comeH935[H8800] whose rightH4941 it is; and I will giveH5414 it himH8804. [27]I will overturn, overturn, overturn it, and it shall be no more until he come, whose right it is, and I will give it him.
[28]And thou, sonH1121 of manH120, prophesyH5012[H8734] and sayH559[H8804], Thus saithH559[H8804] the LordH136 GODH3069 concerning the AmmonitesH1121[H5983], and concerning their reproachH2781; even sayH559[H8804] thou, The swordH2719, the swordH2719 is drawnH6605[H8803]: for the slaughterH2874 it is furbishedH4803[H8803], to consumeH398[H8687] because of the glitteringH1300: [28]And thou, son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord God to the children of Ammon, and to their blasphemy: say thou, I say, The sword, the sword is drawn forth, and furbished to the slaughter, to consume, because of the glittering:
[29]Whiles they seeH2372[H8800] vanityH7723 unto thee, whiles they divineH7080[H8800] a lieH3577 unto thee, to bringH5414[H8800] thee upon the necksH6677 of them that are slainH2491, of the wickedH7563, whose dayH3117 is comeH935[H8804], whenH6256 their iniquityH5771 shall have an endH7093. [29]Whiles they see vanity unto thee, and prophesied a lie unto thee to bring thee upon the necks of the wicked that are slain, whose day is come when their iniquity shall have an end.
[30]Shall I cause it to returnH7725[H8685] into his sheathH8593? I will judgeH8199[H8799] thee in the placeH4725 where thou wast createdH1254[H8738], in the landH776 of thy nativityH4351. [30]Shall I cause it to return into his sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou wast created, even in the land of thine habitation.
[31]And I will pour outH8210[H8804] mine indignationH2195 upon thee, I will blowH6315[H8686] against thee in the fireH784 of my wrathH5678, and deliverH5414[H8804] thee into the handH3027 of brutishH1197[H8802] menH582, and skilfulH2796 to destroyH4889. [31]And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, and will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of beastly men, and skillful to destroy.
[32]Thou shalt be for fuelH402 to the fireH784; thy bloodH1818 shall be in the midstH8432 of the landH776; thou shalt be no more rememberedH2142[H8735]: for I the LORDH3068 have spokenH1696 itH8765. [32]Thou shalt be in the fire to be devoured: thy blood shall be in the midst of the land, and thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the Lord have spoken it.
