[1]Now when Jesus entered and passed through Jericho,
[2]Behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, which was the chief receiver of the tribute, and he was rich.
[3]And he sought to see Jesus, who he should be, and could not for the press, because he was of a low stature.
[4]Wherefore he ran before, and climbed up into a wild fig tree, that he might see him: for he should come that way.
[5]And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zaccheus, come down at once: for today I must abide at thine house.
[6]Then he came down hastily, and received him joyfully.
[7]And when all they saw it, they murmured, saying, that he was gone in to lodge with a sinful man.
[8]And Zaccheus stood forth, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor: and if I have taken from any man by forged accusation, I restore him four fold.
[9]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι σήμερον σωτηρία τῶ οἴκῳ τούτῳ ἐγένετο, καθότι καὶ αὐτὸς υἱὸς ἀβραάμ ἐστιν· [9]Then Jesus said to him, This day is salvation come unto this house, forasmuch as he is also become the son of Abraham.
[10]For the Son of man is come to seek, and to save that which was lost.
[11]And whiles they heard these things, he continued and spake a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because also they thought that the kingdom of God should shortly appear.
[12]He said therefore, A certain noble man went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and so to come again.
[13]And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pieces of money, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
[14]Now his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassador after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
[15]And it came to pass, when he was come again, and had received his kingdom, that he commanded the servants to be called to him, to whom he gave his money, that he might know what every man had gained.
[16]Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy piece hath increased ten pieces.
[17]And he said unto him, Well, good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little thing, take thou authority over ten cities.
[18]And the second came, saying, Lord, thy piece hath increased five pieces.
[19]And to the same he said, Be thou also ruler over five cities.
[20]καὶ ὁ ἕτερος ἦλθεν λέγων, κύριε, ἰδοὺ ἡ μνᾶ σου ἣν εἶχον ἀποκειμένην ἐν σουδαρίῳ· [20]So the other came and said, Lord, behold thy piece, which I have laid up in a napkin.
[21]For I feared thee, because thou art a straight man: thou takest up, that thou laidst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
ᾔδεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος αὐστηρός εἰμι, αἴρων ὃ οὐκ ἔθηκα καὶ θερίζων ὃ οὐκ ἔσπειρα; [22]Then he said unto him, Of thine own mouth will I judge thee, O evil servant. Thou knewest that I am a straight man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow.
[23]Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required it with vantage?
[24]καὶ τοῖς παρεστῶσιν εἶπεν, ἄρατε ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ τὴν μνᾶν καὶ δότε τῶ τὰς δέκα μνᾶς ἔχοντι [24]And he said to them that stood by, Take from him that piece, and give it him that hath ten pieces.
[25]_ καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, κύριε, ἔχει δέκα μνᾶς _ [25](And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pieces.)
[26]For I say unto you, that unto all them that have, it shall be given: and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken from him.
[27]Moreover those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
[28] And when he had thus spoken, he went forth before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
[29]καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤγγισεν εἰς βηθφαγὴ καὶ βηθανία[ν] πρὸς τὸ ὄρος τὸ καλούμενον ἐλαιῶν, ἀπέστειλεν δύο τῶν μαθητῶν [29]And it came to pass, when he was come near to Bethphage, and Bethany, besides the mount which is called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
[30]Saying, Go ye to the town which is before you, wherein, as soon as ye are come, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
[31]And if any man ask you, why ye loose him, thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
[32]So they that were sent, went their way, and found it as he had said unto them.
[33]λυόντων δὲ αὐτῶν τὸν πῶλον εἶπαν οἱ κύριοι αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτούς, τί λύετε τὸν πῶλον; [33]And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
[34]And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
[35] So they brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments on the colt, and set Jesus thereon.
[36]And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
[37]ἐγγίζοντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤδη πρὸς τῇ καταβάσει τοῦ ὄρους τῶν ἐλαιῶν ἤρξαντο ἅπαν τὸ πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν χαίροντες αἰνεῖν τὸν θεὸν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ περὶ πασῶν ὧν εἶδον δυνάμεων, [37]And when he was now come near to the going down of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice, and to praise God with a loud voice, for all the great works that they had seen,
[38]Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the Name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest places.
[39]Then some of the Pharisees of the company said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
[40]But he answered, and said unto them, I tell you, that if these should hold their peace, the stones would cry.
[41]καὶ ὡς ἤγγισεν, ἰδὼν τὴν πόλιν ἔκλαυσεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτήν, [41] And when he was come near, he beheld the City, and wept for it,
[42]Saying, O if thou haddest even known at the least in this thy day those things, which belong unto thy peace: but now are they hid from thine eyes.
[43]ὅτι ἥξουσιν ἡμέραι ἐπὶ σὲ καὶ παρεμβαλοῦσιν οἱ ἐχθροί σου χάρακά σοι καὶ περικυκλώσουσίν σε καὶ συνέξουσίν σε πάντοθεν, [43]For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
[44]And shall make thee even with the ground, and thy children which are in thee, and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone, because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
[45]καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν ἤρξατο ἐκβάλλειν τοὺς πωλοῦντας, [45] He went also into the Temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought,
[46]Saying unto them, It is written, Mine house is the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves.
οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἀπολέσαι καὶ οἱ πρῶτοι τοῦ λαοῦ· [47]And he taught daily in the Temple. And the high Priests and the Scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy him.
[48]But they could not find what they might do to him: for all the people hanged upon him when they heard him.
