| [1]καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῶ ἱερῶ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις, |
[1]And it came to pass that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the Temple, and preached the Gospel, the high Priests and the Scribes came upon him with the Elders, |
| [2]καὶ εἶπαν λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν, εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην. |
[2]And spake unto him, saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is he that hath given thee this authority? |
| [3]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι· |
[3]And he answered, and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing: tell me therefore: |
| [4]τὸ βάπτισμα ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων; |
[4]The baptism of John was it from heaven, or of men? |
| [5]οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι ἐὰν εἴπωμεν, ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ, διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῶ; |
[5]And they reasoned within themselves, saying, If we shall say from heaven, he will say, Why then believed ye him not? |
| [6]ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν, ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ὁ λαὸς ἅπας καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι. |
[6]But if we shall say, Of men, all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a Prophet. |
| [7]καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν. |
[7]Therefore they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. |
| [8]καὶ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ. |
[8]Then Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you, by what authority I do these things. |
| [9]ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ἄνθρωπός [τις] ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς. |
[9] Then began he to speak to the people this parable, A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen: and went into a strange country, for a great season. |
| [10]καὶ καιρῶ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς δοῦλον, ἵνα ἀπὸ τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος δώσουσιν αὐτῶ· οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν δείραντες κενόν. |
[10]And at a time he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard, but the husbandmen did beat him, and sent him away empty. |
| [11]καὶ προσέθετο ἕτερον πέμψαι δοῦλον· οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν. |
[11]Again he sent yet another servant: and they did beat him, and foul entreated him, and sent him away empty. |
| [12]καὶ προσέθετο τρίτον πέμψαι· οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον. |
[12]Moreover, he sent the third, and him they wounded, and cast out. |
| [13]εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, τί ποιήσω; πέμψω τὸν υἱόν μου τὸν ἀγαπητόν· ἴσως τοῦτον ἐντραπήσονται. |
[13]Then said the Lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be that they will do reverence, when they see him. |
| [14]ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες, οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία. |
[14]But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned with themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. |
| [15]καὶ ἐκβαλόντες αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ἀπέκτειναν. τί οὗν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος; |
[15]So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What shall the Lord of the vineyard therefore do unto them? |
| [16]ἐλεύσεται καὶ ἀπολέσει τοὺς γεωργοὺς τούτους, καὶ δώσει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλοις. ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἶπαν, μὴ γένοιτο. |
[16]He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give out his vineyard to others. But when they heard it, they said, God forbid. |
| [17]ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν, τί οὗν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο· λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὖτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας; |
[17] And he beheld them, and said, What meaneth this then that is written, The stone that the builders refused, that is made the head of the corner? |
| [18]πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπ᾽ ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφ᾽ ὃν δ᾽ ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν. |
[18]Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken: and on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. |
| [19]καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπ᾽ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν τὸν λαόν· ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην. |
[19]Then the high Priests and the Scribes the same hour went about to lay hands on him: (but they feared the people) for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. |
| [20]καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ὥστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος. |
[20]And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, to take him in his talk, and to deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. |
| [21]καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπ᾽ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις· |
[21]And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest, and teachest right, neither dost thou accept man's person, but teachest the way of God truly . |
| [22]ἔξεστιν ἡμᾶς καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ; |
[22]Is it lawful for us to give Caesar tribute or no? |
| [23]κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, |
[23]But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? |
| [24]δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν, καίσαρος. |
[24]Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. |
| [25]ὁ δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε τὰ καίσαρος καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῶ θεῶ. |
[25]Then he said unto them, Give then unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God those which are God's. |
| [26]καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι αὐτοῦ ῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν. |
[26]And they could not reprove his saying before the people: but they marveled at his answer, and held their peace. |
| [27]προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν σαδδουκαίων, οἱ [ἀντι]λέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν |
[27]Then came to him certain of the Sadducees (which deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him, |
| [28]λέγοντες, διδάσκαλε, μωϊσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὖτος ἄτεκνος ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῶ ἀδελφῶ αὐτοῦ. |
[28]Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. |
| [29]ἑπτὰ οὗν ἀδελφοὶ ἦσαν· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος λαβὼν γυναῖκα ἀπέθανεν ἄτεκνος· |
[29]Now there were seven brethren, and the first took a wife, and he died without children. |
| [30]καὶ ὁ δεύτερος |
[30]And the second took the wife, and he died childless. |
| [31]καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἔλαβεν αὐτήν, ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἑπτὰ οὐ κατέλιπον τέκνα καὶ ἀπέθανον. |
[31]Then the third took her: and so likewise the seven died, and left no children. |
| [32]ὕστερον καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν. |
[32]And last of all, the woman died also. |
| [33]ἡ γυνὴ οὗν ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα. |
[33]Therefore at the resurrection, whose wife of them shall she be? For seven had her to wife. |
| [34]καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ γαμίσκονται, |
[34]Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, The children of this world marry wives and are married. |
| [35]οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε γαμίζονται· |
[35]But they which shall be counted worthy to enjoy that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry wives, neither are married. |
| [36]οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀποθανεῖν ἔτι δύνανται, ἰσάγγελοι γάρ εἰσιν, καὶ υἱοί εἰσιν θεοῦ, τῆς ἀναστάσεως υἱοὶ ὄντες. |
[36]For they can die no more, forasmuch as they are equal unto the Angels, and are the sons of God, since they are the children of the resurrection. |
| [37]ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ μωϊσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἀβραὰμ καὶ θεὸν ἰσαὰκ καὶ θεὸν ἰακώβ· |
[37]And that the dead shall rise again, even Moses showed it besides the bush, when he said, The Lord is the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. |
| [38]θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῶ ζῶσιν. |
[38]For he is not the God of the dead, but of them which live: for all live unto him. |
| [39]ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν, διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας· |
[39]Then certain of the Pharisees answered and said, Master, thou hast well said. |
| [40]οὐκέτι γὰρ ἐτόλμων ἐπερωτᾶν αὐτὸν οὐδέν. |
[40]And after that, durst they not ask him any thing at all. |
| [41]εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς, πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν εἶναι δαυὶδ υἱόν; |
[41] Then said he unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? |
| [42]αὐτὸς γὰρ δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν, εἶπεν κύριος τῶ κυρίῳ μου, κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου |
[42]And David himself saith in the book of the Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, sit at my right hand, |
| [43]ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου. |
[43]Till I shall make thine enemies thy footstool. |
| [44]δαυὶδ οὗν κύριον αὐτὸν καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς αὐτοῦ υἱός ἐστιν; |
[44]Seeing David calleth him Lord, how is he then his son? |
| [45]ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς [αὐτοῦ], |
[45] Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples, |
| [46]προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις, |
[46]Beware of the Scribes, which desire to go in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the highest seats in the Synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts: |
| [47]οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὖτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα. |
[47]Which devour widow's houses, even under a color of long praying: these shall receive greater damnation. |
