| [1]When the morning was come, all the chief Priests, and the Elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to put him to death, |
[1]Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ ᾿Ιησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν· |
| [2]And led him away bound, and delivered him unto Pontius Pilate the governor. |
[2]καὶ δήσαντες αὐτὸν ἀπήγαγον καὶ παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν Ποντίῳ Πιλάτῳ τῷ ἡγεμόνι. |
| [3]Then when Judas which betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief Priests, and Elders, |
[3]Τότε ἰδὼν ᾿Ιούδας ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ὅτι κατεκρίθη, μεταμεληθεὶς ἀπέστρεψε τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσι καὶ τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις |
| [4]Saying, I have sinned betraying the innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou to it. |
[4]λέγων· ἥμαρτον παραδοὺς αἷμα ἀθῷον. οἱ δὲ εἶπον· τί πρὸς ἡμᾶς; σὺ ὄψει. |
| [5]And when he had cast down the silver pieces in the Temple, he departed, and went, and hanged himself. |
[5]καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια ἐν τῷ ναῷ ἀνεχώρησε, καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο. |
| [6]And the chief Priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for us to put them into the treasure, because it is the price of blood. |
[6]οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπον· οὐκ ἔξεστι βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστι. |
| [7]And they took counsel, and bought with them a potters field, for the burial of strangers. |
[7]συμβούλιον δὲ λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς ξένοις· |
| [8]Wherefore that field is called, the field of blood, until this day. |
[8]διὸ ἐκλήθη ὁ ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος ἀγρὸς αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον. |
| [9](Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the Prophet, saying, And they took thirty silver pieces, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel valued. |
[9]τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ ῾Ιερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· καὶ ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια, τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν ᾿Ισραήλ, |
| [10]And they gave them for the potters field, as the Lord appointed me.) |
[10]καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως, καθὰ συνέταξέ μοι Κύριος. |
| [11]And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest it. |
[11]῾Ο δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦς ἔστη ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ἡγεμόνος· καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ ἡγεμὼν λέγων· σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων; ὁ δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦς ἔφη αὐτῷ· σὺ λέγεις. |
| [12]And when he was accused of the chief Priests and Elders, he answered nothing. |
[12]καὶ ἐν τῷ κατηγορεῖσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο. |
| [13]Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they lay against thee? |
[13]τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πιλᾶτος· οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσι; |
| [14]But he answered him not to one word, in so much that the governor marveled greatly. |
[14]καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ρῆμα, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν. |
| [15]Now at the feast, the governor was wont to deliver unto the people a prisoner whom they would. |
[15]Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ὁ ἡγεμὼν ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον, ὃν ἤθελον. |
| [16]And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. |
[16]εἶχον δὲ τότε δέσμιον ἐπίσημον λεγόμενον Βαραββᾶν. |
| [17]When they were then gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whether will ye that I let loose unto you Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? |
[17]συνηγμένων οὖν αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· τίνα θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; Βαραββᾶν ἢ ᾿Ιησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον Χριστόν; |
| [18](For he knew well, that for envy they had delivered him. |
[18]ᾔδει γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παρέδωκαν αὐτόν. |
| [19]Also when he was set down upon the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream by reason of him.) |
[19]Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλε πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα· μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ· πολλὰ γὰρ ἔπαθον σήμερον κατ᾿ ὄναρ δι᾿ αὐτόν. |
| [20]But the chief Priests and the Elders had persuaded the people that they should ask Barabbas, and should destroy Jesus. |
[20]Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ἵνα αἰτήσωνται τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦν ἀπολέσωσιν. |
| [21]Then the governor answered, and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I let loose unto you? And they said, Barabbas. |
[21]ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἡγεμὼν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· τίνα θέλετε ἀπὸ τῶν δύο ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; οἱ δὲ εἶπον· Βαραββᾶν. |
| [22]Pilate said unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all said to him, Let him be crucified. |
[22]λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· τί οὖν ποιήσω ᾿Ιησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον Χριστόν; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ πάντες· σταυρωθήτω. |
| [23]Then said the governor, But what evil hath he done? Then they cried the more, saying, Let him be crucified. |
[23]ὁ δὲ ἡγεμὼν ἔφη· τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν; οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραζον λέγοντες· σταυρωθήτω. |
| [24]When Pilate saw that he availed nothing, but that more tumult was made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man: look you to it. |
[24]ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ὅτι οὐδὲν ὠφελεῖ, ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον θόρυβος γίνεται, λαβὼν ὕδωρ ἀπενίψατο τὰς χεῖρας ἀπέναντι τοῦ ὄχλου λέγων· ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ δικαίου τούτου· ὑμεῖς ὄψεσθε. |
| [25]Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. |
[25]καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πᾶς ὁ λαὸς εἶπε· τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐφ᾿ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ἡμῶν. |
| [26]Thus let he Barabbas loose unto them, and scourged Jesus, and delivered him to be crucified. |
[26]τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ. |
| [27]Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered about him the whole band, |
[27]Τότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν ᾿Ιησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπ᾿ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν· |
| [28]And they stripped him, and put upon him a scarlet robe, |
[28]καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ χλαμύδα κοκκίνην, |
| [29]And platted a crown of thorns, and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand, and bowed their knees before him, and mocked him, saying, God save thee King of the Jews, |
[29]καὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ἐπὶ τὴν δεξιὰν αὐτοῦ, καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ λέγοντες· χαῖρε ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων· |
| [30]And spitted upon him, and took a reed, and smote him on the head. |
[30]καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ. |
| [31]Thus when they had mocked him, they took the robe from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. |
[31]καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι. |
| [32]And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon: him they compelled to bear his cross. |
[32]᾿Εξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα· τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ. |
| [33]And when they came unto the place called Golgotha, (that is to say, the place of dead mens skulls.) |
[33]Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ὅ ἐστι λεγόμενος κρανίου τόπος, |
| [34]They gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. |
[34]ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν ὄξος μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ἤθελε πιεῖν. |
| [35]And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, and did cast lots, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, They divided my garments among them, and upon my vesture did cast lots. |
[35]σταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βαλόντες κλῆρον, |
| [36]And they sat, and watched him there. |
[36]καὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ. |
| [37]They set up also over his head his cause written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. |
[37]καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· οὗτός ἐστιν ᾿Ιησοῦς ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾿Ιουδαίων. |
| [38]And there were two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. |
[38]Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων. |
| [39]And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their heads, |
[39]Οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν |
| [40]And saying, Thou that destroyest the Temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. |
[40]καὶ λέγοντες· ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν! σῶσον σεαυτόν· εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ Θεοῦ, κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ. |
| [41]Likewise also the high Priests mocking him, with the Scribes, and Elders, and Pharisees, said, |
[41]ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων καὶ Φαρισαίων ἔλεγον· |
| [42]He saved others, but he cannot save himself: if he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. |
[42]ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι· εἰ βασιλεὺς ᾿Ισραήλ ἐστι, καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπ᾿ αὐτῷ· |
| [43]He trusteth in God, let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. |
[43]πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν Θεόν, ῥυσάσθω νῦν αὐτόν, εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπε γὰρ ὅτι Θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός. |
| [44]That same also the thieves which were crucified with him, cast in his teeth. |
[44]τὸ δ᾿ αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν. |
| [45]Now from the sixth hour was there darkness over all the land, unto the ninth hour. |
[45]᾿Απὸ δὲ ἕκτης ὥρας σκότος ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης. |
| [46]And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? |
[46]περὶ δὲ τὴν ἐνάτην ὥραν ἀνεβόησεν ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων· ἠλὶ ἠλί, λιμᾶ σαβαχθανί; τοῦτ᾿ ἔστι, Θεέ μου Θεέ μου, ἱνατί με ἐγκατέλιπες; |
| [47]And some of them that stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah. |
[47]τινὲς δὲ τῶν ἐκεῖ ἑστώτων ἀκούσαντες ἔλεγον ὅτι ᾿Ηλίαν φωνεῖ οὗτος. |
| [48]And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. |
[48]καὶ εὐθέως δραμὼν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ λαβὼν σπόγγον πλήσας τε ὄξους καὶ περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν. |
| [49]Other said, Let be: let us see, if Elijah will come and save him. |
[49]οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ ἔλεγον· ἄφες ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται ᾿Ηλίας σώσων αὐτόν. |
| [50]Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up the ghost. |
[50]ὁ δὲ ᾿Ιησοῦς πάλιν κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἀφῆκε τὸ πνεῦμα. |
| [51]And behold, the veil of the Temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and the stones were cloven. |
[51]Καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη εἰς δύο ἀπὸ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω, καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐσείσθη καὶ αἱ πέτραι ἐσχίσθησαν, |
| [52]And the graves did open themselves, and many bodies of the Saints which slept, arose, |
[52]καὶ τὰ μνημεῖα ἀνεῴχθησαν καὶ πολλὰ σώματα τῶν κεκοιμημένων ἁγίων ἠγέρθη, |
| [53]And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the Holy city, and appeared unto many. |
[53]καὶ ἐξελθόντες ἐκ τῶν μνημείων, μετὰ τὴν ἔγερσιν αὐτοῦ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν καὶ ἐνεφανίσθησαν πολλοῖς. |
| [54]When the Centurion, and they that were with him watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. |
[54]῾Ο δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ οἱ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν ᾿Ιησοῦν, ἰδόντες τὸν σεισμὸν καὶ τὰ γενόμενα ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα λέγοντες· ἀληθῶς Θεοῦ υἱὸς ἦν οὗτος. |
| [55]And many women were there, beholding him a far off, which had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him. |
[55]῏Ησαν δὲ ἐκεῖ καὶ γυναῖκες πολλαὶ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, αἵτινες ἠκολούθησαν τῷ ᾿Ιησοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας διακονοῦσαι αὐτῷ· |
| [56]Among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedees sons. |
[56]ἐν αἷς ἦν Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνή, καὶ Μαρία ἡ τοῦ ᾿Ιακώβου καὶ ᾿Ιωσῆ μήτηρ, καὶ ἡ μήτηρ τῶν υἱῶν Ζεβεδαίου. |
| [57]And when the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who had also himself been Jesus disciple. |
[57]᾿Οψίας δὲ γενομένης ἦλθεν ἄνθρωπος πλούσιος ἀπὸ ᾿Αριμαθαίας, τοὔνομα ᾿Ιωσήφ, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐμαθήτευσε τῷ ᾿Ιησοῦ· |
| [58]He went to Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. |
[58]οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ ᾿Ιησοῦ. τότε ὁ Πιλᾶτος ἐκέλευσεν ἀποδοθῆναι τὸ σῶμα. |
| [59]So Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, |
[59]καὶ λαβὼν τὸ σῶμα ὁ ᾿Ιωσὴφ ἐνετύλιξεν αὐτὸ σινδόνι καθαρᾷ, |
| [60]And put it in his new tomb, which he had hewn out in a rock, and rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulcher, and departed. |
[60]καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ καινῷ αὐτοῦ μνημείῳ ὃ ἐλατόμησεν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ, καὶ προσκυλίσας λίθον μέγαν τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπῆλθεν. |
| [61]And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulcher. |
[61]῏Ην δὲ ἐκεῖ Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ ἡ ἄλλη Μαρία, καθήμεναι ἀπέναντι τοῦ τάφου. |
| [62]Now the next day that followed the Preparation of the Sabbath, the high Priests and Pharisees assembled to Pilate, |
[62]Τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον, ἥτις ἐστὶ μετὰ τὴν παρασκευήν, συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς Πιλᾶτον |
| [63]And said, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, Within three days I will rise. |
[63]λέγοντες· κύριε, ἐμνήσθημεν ὅτι ἐκεῖνος ὁ πλάνος εἶπεν ἔτι ζῶν, μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἐγείρομαι. |
| [64]Command therefore, that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so shall the last error be worse then the first. |
[64]κέλευσον οὖν ἀσφαλισθῆναι τὸν τάφον ἕως τῆς τρίτης ἡμέρας, μήποτε ἐλθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς κλέψωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ εἴπωσι τῷ λαῷ, ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν νεκρῶν· καὶ ἔσται ἡ ἐσχάτη πλάνη χείρων τῆς πρώτης. |
| [65]Then Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go, and make it sure as ye know. |
[65]ἔφη αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· ἔχετε κουστωδίαν· ὑπάγετε ἀσφαλίσασθε ὡς οἴδατε. |
| [66]And they went, and made the sepulcher sure with the watch, and sealed the stone. |
[66]οἱ δὲ πορευθέντες ἠσφαλίσαντο τὸν τάφον σφραγίσαντες τὸν λίθον μετὰ τῆς κουστωδίας. |
