| [1]Nile ye deme, `that ye be not demed; for in what doom ye demen, |
[1]לא תדונונ דלא תתדינונ |
| [2]ye schulen be demed, and in what mesure ye meten, it schal be meten ayen to you. |
[2]בדינא גיר דדינינ אנתונ תתדינונ ובכילתא דמכילונ מתתכיל לכונ |
| [3]But what seest thou a litil mote in the iye of thi brother, and seest not a beem in thin owne iye? |
[3]מנא דינ חזא אנת גלא דבעינה דאחוכ וקריתא דבעינכ לא בחר אנת |
| [4]Or hou seist thou to thi brothir, Brothir, suffre I schal do out a mote fro thin iye, and lo! a beem is in thin owne iye? |
[4]או איכנא אמר אנת לאחוכ שׁבוק אפק גלא מנ עינכ והא קריתא בעינכ |
| [5]Ipocrite, `do thou out first the beem of thin iye, and thanne thou schalt se to do out the mote of the iye of thi brothir. |
[5]נסב באפא אפק לוקדמ קריתא מנ עינכ והידינ נתבחר לכ למפקו גלא מנ עינה דאחוכ |
| [6]Nile ye yyue hooli thing to houndis, nethir caste ye youre margaritis bifore swyne, lest perauenture thei defoulen hem with her feet, and the houndis be turned, and al to-tere you. |
[6]לא תתלונ קודשׁא לכלבא ולא תרמונ מרגניתכונ קדמ חזירא דלמא נדושׁונ אנינ ברגליהונ ונהפכונ נבזעונכונ |
| [7]Axe ye, and it schal be youun to you; seke ye, and ye schulen fynde; knocke ye, and it schal be openyd to you. |
[7]שׁאלו ונתיהב לכונ בעו ותשׁכחונ קושׁו ונתפתח לכונ |
| [8]For ech that axith, takith; and he that sekith, fyndith; and it schal be openyd to hym, that knockith. |
[8]כל גיר דשׁאל נסב ודבעא משׁכח ולאינא דנקשׁ מתפתח לה |
| [9]What man of you is, that if his sone axe hym breed, whethir he wole take hym a stoon? |
[9]או מנו מנכונ גברא דנשׁאלווהי ברה לחמא למא כאפא מושׁט לה |
| [10]Or if he axe fische, whether he wole take hym an edder? |
[10]ואנ נונא נשׁאליוהי למא חויא מושׁט לה |
| [11]Therfor if ye, whanne ye ben yuele men, kunnen yyue good yiftis to youre sones, hou myche more youre fadir that is in heuenes schal yyue good thingis to men that axen hym? |
[11]ואנ הכיל אנתונ דבישׁא אנתונ ידעינ אנתונ מוהבתא טבתא למתל לבניכונ כמא יתיראית אבוכונ דבשׁמיא נתל טבתא לאילינ דשׁאלינ לה |
| [12]Therfor alle thingis, what euere thingis ye wolen that men do to you, do ye to hem, for this is the lawe and the prophetis. |
[12]כל מא דצבינ אנתונ דנעבדונ לכונ בנינשׁא הכנא אפ אנתונ עבדו להונ הנו גיר נמוסא ונביא |
| [13]Entre ye bi the streyt yate; for the yate that ledith to perdicioun is large, and the weie is broode, and there ben many that entren bi it. |
[13]עולו בתרעא אליצא דפתא הו תרעא וארויחא אורחא אידא דמובלא לאבדנא וסגיאא אנונ אילינ דאזלינ בה |
| [14]Hou streit is the yate, and narwy the weye, that ledith to lijf, and ther ben fewe that fynden it. |
[14]מא קטינ תרעא ואליצא אורחא דמובלא לחיא וזעורא אנונ אילינ דמשׁכחינ לה |
| [15]Be ye war of fals prophetis, that comen to you in clothingis of scheep, but withynneforth thei ben as wolues of raueyn; |
[15]אזדהרו מנ נביא דגלא דאתינ לותכונ בלבושׁא דאמרא מנ לגו דינ איתיהונ דאבא חטופא |
| [16]of her fruytis ye schulen knowe hem. Whether men gaderen grapis of thornes, or figus of breris? |
[16]מנ פאריהונ דינ תדעונ אנונ למא לקטינ מנ כובא ענבא או מנ קורטבא תאנא |
| [17]So euery good tre makith good fruytis; but an yuel tre makith yuel fruytis. |
[17]הכנא כל אילנא טבא פארא שׁפירא עבד אילנא דינ בישׁא פארא בישׁא עבד |
| [18]A good tre may not make yuel fruytis, nethir an yuel tre make good fruytis. |
[18]לא משׁכח אילנא טבא פארא בישׁא למעבד ולא אילנא בישׁא פארא טבא למעבד |
| [19]Euery tre that makith not good fruyt, schal be kyt doun, and schal be cast in to the fier. |
[19]כל אילנא דלא עבד פארא טבא מתפסק ובנורא נפל |
| [20]Therfor of her fruytis ye schulen knowe hem. |
[20]מדינ מנ פאריהונ תדעונ אנונ |
| [21]Not ech man that seith to me, Lord, Lord, schal entre in to the kyngdom of heuenes; but he that doith the wille of my fadir that is in heuenes, he schal entre in to the kyngdoom of heuenes. |
[21]לא הוא כל דאמר לי מרי מרי עאל למלכותא דשׁמיא אלא מנ דעבד צבינה דאבי דבשׁמיא |
| [22]Many schulen seie to me in that dai, Lord, Lord, whether we han not prophesied in thi name, and han caste out feendis in thi name, and han doon many vertues in thi name? |
[22]סגיאא נאמרונ לי בהו יומא מרי מרי לא בשׁמכ אתנבינ ובשׁמכ שׁאדא אפקנ ובשׁמכ חילא סגיאא עבדנ |
| [23]And thanne Y schal knouleche to hem, That Y knewe you neuere; departe awei fro me, ye that worchen wickidnesse. |
[23]והידינ אודא להונ דממתומ לא ידעתכונ ארחקו לכונ מני פלחי עולא |
| [24]Therfor ech man that herith these my wordis, and doith hem, schal be maad lijk to a wise man, that hath bildid his hous on a stoon. |
[24]כל הכיל דשׁמע מלי הלינ ועבד להינ נתדמא לגברא חכימא הו דבנא ביתה על שׁועא |
| [25]And reyn felde doun, and flodis camen, and wyndis blewen, and russchiden `in to that hous; and it felde not doun, for it was foundun on a stoon. |
[25]ונחת מטרא ואתו נהרותא ונשׁב רוחא ואתטריו בה בביתא הו ולא נפל שׁתאסוהי גיר על שׁועא סימנ הוי |
| [26]And euery man that herith these my wordis, and doith hem not, is lijk to a fool, that hath bildid his hous on grauel. |
[26]וכל מנ דשׁמע מלי הלינ ולא עבד להינ נתדמא לגברא סכלא דבנא ביתה על חלא |
| [27]And reyn cam doun, and floodis camen, and wyndis blewen, and thei hurliden ayen that hous; and it felde doun, and the fallyng doun therof was greet. |
[27]ונחת מטרא ואתו נהרותא ונשׁב רוחא ואתטריו בביתא הו ונפל והות מפולתה רבא |
| [28]And it was doon, whanne Jhesus hadde endid these wordis, the puple wondride on his techyng; |
[28]והוא דכד שׁלמ ישׁוע מלא הלינ תהירינ הוו כנשׁא על יולפנה |
| [29]for he tauyte hem, as he that hadde power, and not as the scribis `of hem, and the Farisees. |
[29]מלפ הוא להונ גיר איכ משׁלטא ולא איכ ספריהונ ופרישׁא |
