[1]διο αναπολογητος ει ω ανθρωπε πας ο κρινων εν ω γαρ κρινεις τον ετερον σεαυτον κατακρινεις τα γαρ αυτα πρασσεις ο κρινων [1]There is therefore no excuse for thee, O man, that judgest thy neighbor; for by judging thy neighbor, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest, dost practise the same things.
[2]οιδαμεν δε οτι το κριμα του θεου εστιν κατα αληθειαν επι τους τα τοιαυτα πρασσοντας [2]And we know that the judgment of God is in accordance with truth, in regard to those who practise these things.
[3]λογιζη δε τουτο ω ανθρωπε ο κρινων τους τα τοιαυτα πρασσοντας και ποιων αυτα οτι συ εκφευξη το κριμα του θεου [3]And what thinkest thou, O man, that judgest those who practise these things, while practising them thyself, that thou wilt escape the judgment of God?
[4]η του πλουτου της χρηστοτητος αυτου και της ανοχης και της μακροθυμιας καταφρονεις αγνοων οτι το χρηστον του θεου εις μετανοιαν σε αγει [4]Or wilt thou abuse the riches of his benevolence, and his long suffering, and the opportunity which he giveth thee? And dost thou not know, that the benevolence of God should bring thee to repentance?
[5]κατα δε την σκληροτητα σου και αμετανοητον καρδιαν θησαυριζεις σεαυτω οργην εν ημερα οργης και αποκαλυψεως δικαιοκρισιας του θεου [5]But, because of the hardness of thy unrepenting heart, thou art treasuring up a store of wrath against the day of wrath, and against the revelation of the righteous judgment of God:
[6]ος αποδωσει εκαστω κατα τα εργα αυτου [6]who will recompense to every man, according to his deeds;
[7]τοις μεν καθ υπομονην εργου αγαθου δοξαν και τιμην και αφθαρσιαν ζητουσιν ζωην αιωνιον [7]to them who, by perseverance in good works, seek for glory and honor and immortality, to them he will give life eternal;
[8]τοις δε εξ εριθειας και απειθουσιν μεν τη αληθεια πειθομενοις δε τη αδικια θυμος και οργη [8]but to them who are obstinate and obey not the truth, but obey iniquity, to them he will retribute wrath and ire.
[9]θλιψις και στενοχωρια επι πασαν ψυχην ανθρωπου του κατεργαζομενου το κακον ιουδαιου τε πρωτον και ελληνος [9]And tribulation and anguish [will be] to every man that doeth evil; to the Jews first, and also to the Gentiles:
[10]δοξα δε και τιμη και ειρηνη παντι τω εργαζομενω το αγαθον ιουδαιω τε πρωτον και ελληνι [10]but glory and honor and peace to every one that doeth good; to the Jews first, and also to the Gentiles.
[11]ου γαρ εστιν προσωποληψια παρα τω θεω [11]For there is no respect of persons with God:
[12]οσοι γαρ ανομως ημαρτον ανομως και απολουνται και οσοι εν νομω ημαρτον δια νομου κριθησονται [12]for those without law, who sin, will also perish without law; and those under the law, who sin, will be judged by the law,
[13]ου γαρ οι ακροαται του νομου δικαιοι παρα τω θεω αλλ οι ποιηται του νομου δικαιωθησονται [13](for not the hearers of the law, are righteous before God; but the doers of the law are justified;
[14]οταν γαρ εθνη τα μη νομον εχοντα φυσει τα του νομου ποιη ουτοι νομον μη εχοντες εαυτοις εισιν νομος [14]for if Gentiles who have not the law, shall, by their nature, do the things of the law; they, while without the law, become a law to themselves:
[15]οιτινες ενδεικνυνται το εργον του νομου γραπτον εν ταις καρδιαις αυτων συμμαρτυρουσης αυτων της συνειδησεως και μεταξυ αλληλων των λογισμων κατηγορουντων η και απολογουμενων [15]and they show the work of the law, as it is inscribed on their heart; and their conscience beareth testimony to them, their own reflections rebuking or vindicating one another,)
[16]εν ημερα οτε κρινει ο θεος τα κρυπτα των ανθρωπων κατα το ευαγγελιον μου δια ιησου χριστου [16]in the day in which God will judge the secret [actions] of men, as my gospel [teacheth], by Jesus the Messiah.
[17]ιδε συ ιουδαιος επονομαζη και επαναπαυη τω νομω και καυχασαι εν θεω [17]But if thou, who art called a Jew, and reposest thyself on the law, and gloriest in God,
[18]και γινωσκεις το θελημα και δοκιμαζεις τα διαφεροντα κατηχουμενος εκ του νομου [18]that thou knowest his good pleasure, and discernest obligations, because thou art instructed in the law;
[19]πεποιθας τε σεαυτον οδηγον ειναι τυφλων φως των εν σκοτει [19]and hast confidence in thyself, that thou art a guide to the blind, and a light to them who are in darkness,
[20]παιδευτην αφρονων διδασκαλον νηπιων εχοντα την μορφωσιν της γνωσεως και της αληθειας εν τω νομω [20]and an instructor of those lacking knowledge, and a preceptor to the young; and thou hast the appearance of knowledge and of verity in the law :
[21]ο ουν διδασκων ετερον σεαυτον ου διδασκεις ο κηρυσσων μη κλεπτειν κλεπτεις [21]Thou therefore, who teachest others, teachest thou not thyself? And thou who teachest that men must not steal, dost thou steal?
[22]ο λεγων μη μοιχευειν μοιχευεις ο βδελυσσομενος τα ειδωλα ιεροσυλεις [22]And thou who sayest, Men must not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? And thou who contemnest idols, dost thou plunder the sanctuary?
[23]ος εν νομω καυχασαι δια της παραβασεως του νομου τον θεον ατιμαζεις [23]And thou who gloriest in the law, dost thou, by acting contrary to the law, insult God himself?
[24]το γαρ ονομα του θεου δι υμας βλασφημειται εν τοις εθνεσιν καθως γεγραπται [24]For, the name of God, as it is written, is reviled among the Gentiles on your account.
[25]περιτομη μεν γαρ ωφελει εαν νομον πρασσης εαν δε παραβατης νομου ης η περιτομη σου ακροβυστια γεγονεν [25]For circumcision profiteth, indeed, if thou fulfillest the law: but if thou departest from the law, thy circumcision becometh uncircumcision.
[26]εαν ουν η ακροβυστια τα δικαιωματα του νομου φυλασση ουχι η ακροβυστια αυτου εις περιτομην λογισθησεται [26]And if uncircumcision should keep the precepts of the law, would not that uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision?
[27]και κρινει η εκ φυσεως ακροβυστια τον νομον τελουσα σε τον δια γραμματος και περιτομης παραβατην νομου [27]And the uncircumcision, which from its nature fulfilleth the law, will judge thee; who, with the scripture, and with circumcision, transgressest against the law.
[28]ου γαρ ο εν τω φανερω ιουδαιος εστιν ουδε η εν τω φανερω εν σαρκι περιτομη [28]For he is not a Jew, who is so in what is external: nor is that circumcision, which is visible in the flesh.
[29]αλλ ο εν τω κρυπτω ιουδαιος και περιτομη καρδιας εν πνευματι ου γραμματι ου ο επαινος ουκ εξ ανθρωπων αλλ εκ του θεου [29]But he is a Jew, who is so in what is hidden: and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter, whose praise is not from men, but from God.
