| [1]Then NaomiH5281 her mother in lawH2545 saidH559[H8799] unto her, My daughterH1323, shall I not seekH1245[H8762] restH4494 for thee, that it may be wellH3190 with theeH8799? |
[1]Afterward Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall not I seek rest for thee, that thou mayest prosper? |
| [2]And now is not BoazH1162 of our kindredH4130, with whose maidensH5291 thou wast? Behold, he winnowethH2219[H8802] barleyH8184 to nightH3915 in the threshingfloorH1637. |
[2]Now also is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maids thou wast? Behold, he winoweth barley tonight in the floor. |
| [3]WashH7364[H8804] thyself therefore, and anointH5480[H8804] thee, and putH7760[H8804] thy raimentH8071 upon thee, and get thee downH3381[H8804] to the floorH1637: but make not thyself knownH3045[H8735] unto the manH376, until he shall have doneH3615[H8763] eatingH398[H8800] and drinkingH8354.[H8800] |
[3]Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: let not the man know of thee, until he have left eating and drinking. |
| [4]And it shall be, when he lieth downH7901[H8800], that thou shalt markH3045[H8804] the placeH4725 where he shall lieH7901[H8799], and thou shalt go inH935[H8804], and uncoverH1540[H8765] his feetH4772, and lay thee downH7901[H8804]; and he will tellH5046[H8686] thee what thou shalt doH6213.[H8799] |
[4]And when he shall sleep, mark the place where he layeth him down, and go, and uncover the place of his feet, and lay thee down, and he shall tell thee what thou shalt do. |
| [5]And she saidH559[H8799] unto her, All that thou sayestH559[H8799] unto me I will doH6213.[H8799] |
[5]And she answered her, All that thou biddest me, I will do. |
| [6]And she went downH3381[H8799] unto the floorH1637, and didH6213[H8799] according to all that her mother in lawH2545 badeH6680 herH8765. |
[6]So she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her. |
| [7]And when BoazH1162 had eatenH398[H8799] and drunkH8354[H8799], and his heartH3820 was merryH3190[H8799], he wentH935[H8799] to lie downH7901[H8800] at the endH7097 of the heap of cornH6194: and she cameH935[H8799] softlyH3909, and uncoveredH1540[H8762] his feetH4772, and laid her downH7901.[H8799] |
[7]And when Boaz had eaten, and drunken, and cheered his heart, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn, and she came softly, and uncovered the place of his feet, and lay down. |
| [8]And it came to pass at midnightH2677[H3915], that the manH376 was afraidH2729[H8799], and turnedH3943[H8735] himself: and, behold, a womanH802 layH7901[H8802] at his feetH4772. |
[8]And at midnight the man was afraid and caught hold: and lo, a woman lay at his feet. |
| [9]And he saidH559[H8799], Who art thou? And she answeredH559[H8799], I am RuthH7327 thine handmaidH519: spreadH6566[H8804] therefore thy skirtH3671 over thine handmaidH519; for thou art a near kinsmanH1350.[H8802] |
[9]Then he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore the wing of thy garment over thine handmaid: for thou art the kinsman. |
| [10]And he saidH559[H8799], BlessedH1288[H8803] be thou of the LORDH3068, my daughterH1323: for thou hast shewedH3190[H8689] more kindnessH2617 in the latter endH314 than at the beginningH7223, inasmuch as thou followedstH3212[H8800][H310] notH1115 young menH970, whether poorH1800 or richH6223. |
[10]Then said he, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: thou hast showed more goodness in the latter end, than at the beginning, in as much as thou followedst not young men, were they poor or rich. |
| [11]And now, my daughterH1323, fearH3372[H8799] not; I will doH6213[H8799] to thee all that thou requirestH559[H8799]: for all the cityH8179 of my peopleH5971 doth knowH3045[H8802] that thou art a virtuousH2428 womanH802. |
[11]And now, my daughter, fear not: I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know, that thou art a virtuous woman. |
| [12]And now it is trueH551 that I am thy near kinsmanH1350[H8802]: howbeit there isH3426 a kinsmanH1350[H8802] nearer than IH7138. |
[12]And now, it is true that I am thy kinsman, howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I. |
| [13]TarryH3885[H8798] this nightH3915, and it shall be in the morningH1242, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsmanH1350[H8799], wellH2896; let him do the kinsman's partH1350[H8799]: but if he willH2654[H8799] not do the part of a kinsmanH1350[H8800] to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsmanH1350[H8804] to thee, as the LORDH3068 livethH2416: lie downH7901[H8798] until the morningH1242. |
[13]Tarry tonight, and when morning is come, if he will do the duty of a kinsman unto thee, well, let him do the kinsman's duty: but if he will not do the kinsman's part, then will I do the duty of a kinsman, as the Lord liveth: sleep until the morning. |
| [14]And she layH7901[H8799] at his feetH4772 until the morningH1242: and she rose upH6965[H8799] beforeH2958 oneH376 could knowH5234[H8686] anotherH7453. And he saidH559[H8799], Let it not be knownH3045[H8735] that a womanH802 cameH935[H8804] into the floorH1637. |
[14]And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she arose before one could know another: for he said, Let no man know, that a woman came into the floor. |
| [15]Also he saidH559[H8799], BringH3051[H8798] the vailH4304 that thou hast upon thee, and holdH270[H8798] it. And when she heldH270[H8799] it, he measuredH4058[H8799] sixH8337 measures of barleyH8184, and laidH7896[H8799] it on her: and she wentH935[H8799] into the cityH5892. |
[15]Also he said, Bring the sheet that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid them on her, and went into the city. |
| [16]And when she cameH935[H8799] to her mother in lawH2545, she saidH559[H8799], Who art thou, my daughterH1323? And she toldH5046[H8686] her all that the manH376 had doneH6213 to herH8804. |
[16]And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her, |
| [17]And she saidH559[H8799], These sixH8337 measures of barleyH8184 gaveH5414[H8804] he me; for he saidH559[H8804] to me, GoH935[H8799] not emptyH7387 unto thy mother in lawH2545. |
[17]And said, These six measures of barley gave he me: for he said to me, Thou shalt not come empty unto thy mother in law. |
| [18]Then saidH559[H8799] she, Sit stillH3427[H8798], my daughterH1323, until thou knowH3045[H8799] how the matterH1697 will fallH5307[H8799]: for the manH376 will not be in restH8252[H8799], untilH518 he have finishedH3615[H8765] the thingH1697 this dayH3117. |
[18]Then said she, My daughter, sit still, until thou know how the thing will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he hath finished the matter this same day. |
