[1]Seniorem ne increpaveris, sed obsecra ut patrem: juvenes, ut fratres: [1]An elder do not reprimand, but persuade him as a father, and those who are young as thy brethren,
[2]anus, ut matres: juvenculas, ut sorores in omni castitate: [2]And the elderly women as mothers, and those who are young as thy sisters, with all purity.
[3]viduas honora, quæ vere viduæ sunt. [3]The widows honour them who are widows in truth.
[4]Si qua autem vidua filios, aut nepotes habet: discat primum domum suam regere, et mutuam vicem reddere parentibus: hoc enim acceptum est coram Deo. [4]And if there be a widow who hath children, or children's children, let them learn first to do justly for their families, and to repay the debts [owing] to their parents; for this is acceptable before Aloha.
[5]Quæ autem vere vidua est, et desolata, speret in Deum, et instet obsecrationibus, et orationibus nocte ac die. [5]But she who is truly a widow and solitary [is one] whose hope is in Aloha, and who persevereth in prayer and in supplication by night and by day.
[6]Nam quæ in deliciis est, vivens mortua est. [6]But she who serveth pleasure is dead while she liveth.
[7]Et hoc præcipe, ut irreprehensibiles sint. [7]These things prescribe to them, that they be without blame.
[8]Si quis autem suorum, et maxime domesticorum, curam non habet, fidem negavit, et est infideli deterior. [8]For if a man hath not care of them who are his own, and especially of them who are children of the household of faith, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than those who believe not.
[9]Vidua eligatur non minus sexaginta annorum, quæ fuerit unius viri uxor, [9]Elect, then, the widow who is not less than sixty years, who hath had one husband,
[10]in operibus bonis testimonium habens, si filios educavit, si hospitio recepit, si sanctorum pedes lavit, si tribulationem patientibus subministravit, si omne opus bonum subsecuta est. [10]And who hath the testimony of good works: if she have brought up children, if she have received guests, if she have washed the feet of the saints, if she have cheered the afflicted, if she have walked in every gracious work.
[11]Adolescentiores autem viduas devita: cum enim luxuriatæ fuerint in Christo, nubere volunt: [11]But from the widows who are young, withhold [the election]; for these become schismatical against the Meshiha, and seek to marry,
[12]habentes damnationem, quia primam fidem irritam fecerunt; [12]And their condemnation is confirmed, because they have rejected their first fidelity.
[13]simul autem et otiosæ discunt circuire domos: non solum otiosæ, sed et verbosæ, et curiosæ, loquentes quæ non oportet. [13]They also learn idleness, wandering from house to house; and not only idleness, but also to multiply words, and to follow vain [pursuits], and to speak things which they ought not.
[14]Volo ergo juniores nubere, filios procreare, matresfamilias esse, nullam occasionem dare adversario maledicti gratia. [14]I will therefore that those who are young should marry, and bear children, and conduct their households, and not give to the adversary any occasion to revile.
[15]Jam enim quædam conversæ sunt retro Satanam. [15]For already have some begun to turn aside after Satana.
[16]Si quis fidelis habet viduas, subministret illis, et non gravetur ecclesia: ut iis quæ vere viduæ sunt, sufficiat. [16]If any believing man or believing woman have widows, let them support them, that they may not be burden-some on the church, that they who are widows indeed may have sufficient.
[17]Qui bene præsunt presbyteri, duplici honore digni habeantur: maxime qui laborant in verbo et doctrina. [17]Those presbyters who well conduct themselves shall be worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and in doctrine.
[18]Dicit enim Scriptura: Non alligabis os bovi trituranti. Et: Dignus est operarius mercede sua. [18]For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox in the treading out; and, Worthy is the labourer of his hire.
[19]Adversus presbyterum accusationem noli recipere, nisi sub duobus aut tribus testibus. [19]Against a presbyter an accusation receive not, except on the mouth of two or three witnesses.
[20]Peccantes coram omnibus argue: ut et ceteri timorem habeant. [20]Those who sin before all men reprove, that the rest may be afraid.
[21]Testor coram Deo et Christo Jesu, et electis angelis, ut hæc custodias sine præjudicio, nihil faciens in alteram partem declinando. [21]I attest thee before Aloha and our Lord Jeshu Meshiha and his elect angels, that thou keep these, [precepts,] and let not thy mind be pre-occupied by any thing, and do nothing with acceptance of persons.
[22]Manus cito nemini imposueris, neque communicaveris peccatis alienis. Teipsum castum custodi. [22]The hand suddenly on any man lay not, neither participate in others' sins. Keep thyself in purity.
[23]Noli adhuc aquam bibere, sed modico vino utere propter stomachum tuum, et frequentes tuas infirmitates. [23]And henceforth water drink not, but wine a little drink, on account of thy stomach, and on account of thy constant infirmities.
[24]Quorumdam hominum peccata manifesta sunt, præcedentia ad judicium: quosdam autem et subsequuntur. [24]THERE are men whose sins are known, and they precede them to the place of judgment; and there are whose [sins] go after them.
[25]Similiter et facta bona, manifesta sunt: et quæ aliter se habent, abscondi non possunt. [25]So also good men are known; and those who are otherwise cannot be hid.
