[1]On that nightH3915 could notH5074[H8804] the kingH4428 sleepH8142, and he commandedH559[H8799] to bringH935[H8687] the bookH5612 of recordsH2146 of the chroniclesH1697[H3117]; and they were readH7121[H8737] beforeH6440 the kingH4428. [1]The same night the king slept not, and he commanded to bring the book of the records, and the chronicles: and they were read before the king.
[2]And it was foundH4672[H8735] writtenH3789[H8803], that MordecaiH4782 had toldH5046[H8689] of BigthanaH904 and TereshH8657, twoH8147 of the king'sH4428 chamberlainsH5631, the keepersH8104[H8802] of the doorH5592, who soughtH1245[H8765] to layH7971[H8800] handH3027 on the kingH4428 AhasuerusH325. [2]Then it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana, and Teresh two of the king's eunuchs, keepers of the door, who sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus [Xerxes].
[3]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], What honourH3366 and dignityH1420 hath been doneH6213[H8738] to MordecaiH4782 for this? Then saidH559[H8799] the king'sH4428 servantsH5288 that ministeredH8334[H8764] unto him, There is nothingH1697 doneH6213 for himH8738. [3]Then the king said, What honor and dignity hath been given to Mordecai for this? And the king's servants that ministered unto him, said, There is nothing done for him.
[4]And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], Who is in the courtH2691? Now HamanH2001 was comeH935[H8804] into the outwardH2435 courtH2691 of the king'sH4428 houseH1004, to speakH559[H8800] unto the kingH4428 to hangH8518[H8800] MordecaiH4782 on the gallowsH6086 that he had preparedH3559 for himH8689. [4]And the king said, Who is in the court? (Now Haman was come into the inner court of the king's house, that he might speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the tree that he had prepared for him.)
[5]And the king'sH4428 servantsH5288 saidH559[H8799] unto him, Behold, HamanH2001 standethH5975[H8802] in the courtH2691. And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799], Let him come inH935.[H8799] [5]And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
[6]So HamanH2001 came inH935[H8799]. And the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] unto him, What shall be doneH6213[H8800] unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654[H8804] to honourH3366? Now HamanH2001 thoughtH559[H8799] in his heartH3820, To whom would the kingH4428 delightH2654[H8799] to doH6213[H8800] honourH3366 more than to myselfH3148? [6]And when Haman came in, the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man, whom the king will honor? Then Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king do honor more than to me?
[7]And HamanH2001 answeredH559[H8799] the kingH4428, For the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654[H8804] to honourH3366, [7]And Haman answered the king, The man whom the king would honor,
[8]Let the royalH4438 apparelH3830 be broughtH935[H8686] which the kingH4428 useth to wearH3847[H8804], and the horseH5483 that the kingH4428 ridethH7392[H8804] upon, and the crownH3804 royalH4438 which is setH5414[H8738] upon his headH7218: [8]Let them bring for him royal apparel, which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and that the crown royal may be set upon his head.
[9]And let this apparelH3830 and horseH5483 be deliveredH5414[H8800] to the handH3027 of oneH376 of the king'sH4428 most nobleH6579 princesH8269, that they may arrayH3847[H8689] the manH376 withal whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654[H8804] to honourH3366, and bringH7392[H8689] him on horsebackH5483 through the streetH7339 of the cityH5892, and proclaimH7121[H8804] beforeH6440 him, Thus shall it be doneH6213[H8735] to the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654[H8804] to honourH3366. [9]And let the raiment and the horse be delivered by the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, and let them apparel the man (whom the king will honor) and cause him to ride upon the horse through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man, whom the king will honor.
[10]Then the kingH4428 saidH559[H8799] to HamanH2001, Make hasteH4116[H8761], and takeH3947[H8798] the apparelH3830 and the horseH5483, as thou hast saidH1696[H8765], and doH6213[H8798] even so to MordecaiH4782 the JewH3064, that sittethH3427[H8802] at the king'sH4428 gateH8179: let nothingH1697 failH5307[H8686] of all that thou hast spokenH1696.[H8765] [10]Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, take the raiment and the horse as thou hast said, and do so unto Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
[11]Then tookH3947[H8799] HamanH2001 the apparelH3830 and the horseH5483, and arrayedH3847[H8686] MordecaiH4782, and brought him on horsebackH7392[H8686] through the streetH7339 of the cityH5892, and proclaimedH7121[H8799] beforeH6440 him, Thus shall it be doneH6213[H8735] unto the manH376 whom the kingH4428 delightethH2654[H8804] to honourH3366. [11]So Haman took the raiment and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horse back through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king will honor.
[12]And MordecaiH4782 came againH7725[H8799] to the king'sH4428 gateH8179. But HamanH2001 hastedH1765[H8738] to his houseH1004 mourningH57, and having his headH7218 coveredH2645.[H8802] [12]And Mordecai came again to the king's gate, but Haman hasted home mourning and his head covered.
[13]And HamanH2001 toldH5608[H8762] ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 and all his friendsH157[H8802] every thing that had befallenH7136[H8804] him. Then saidH559[H8799] his wise menH2450 and ZereshH2238 his wifeH802 unto him, If MordecaiH4782 be of the seedH2233 of the JewsH3064, beforeH6440 whom thou hast begunH2490[H8689] to fallH5307[H8800], thou shalt not prevailH3201[H8799] against him, but shalt surelyH5307[H8800] fallH5307[H8799] before himH6440. [13]And Haman told Zeresh his wife, and all his friends all that had befallen him. Then said his wise men, and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall; thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
[14]And while they were yet talkingH1696[H8764] with him, cameH5060[H8689] the king'sH4428 chamberlainsH5631, and hastedH926[H8686] to bringH935[H8687] HamanH2001 unto the banquetH4960 that EstherH635 had preparedH6213.[H8804] [14]And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's eunuchs and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
