[1]AMEN, amen, I say to you, Whosoever entereth not by the door into the fold of the flock, but ascendeth by another place, he is a thief and a robber. |
[1]Jhesus seide to hem, If ye weren blynde, ye schulden not haue synne; but now ye seien, That we seen, youre synne dwellith stille. |
[2]But he who entereth by the door, he is the shepherd of the flock. |
[2]Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, he that cometh not in by the dore in to the foold of scheep, but stieth bi another weie, is a nyyt theef and a dai theef. |
[3]And to him the keeper of the gate openeth the gate, and the flock heareth his voice, and his sheep he calleth by their names, and he leadeth them forth; |
[3]But he that entrith bi the dore, is the scheepherde of the scheep. |
[4]And when his flock hath gone forth, he goeth before it, and his sheep follow him, because they know his voice. |
[4]To this the porter openeth, and the scheep heren his vois, and he clepith his owne scheep bi name, and ledith hem out. |
[5]But after a stranger the flock goeth not, but it fleeth from him; for it knoweth not the voice of a stranger. |
[5]And whanne he hath don out his owne scheep, he goith bifor hem, and the scheep suen hym; for thei knowun his vois. |
[6]This parable spake Jeshu to them, but they knew not what he said with them. |
[6]But thei suen not an alien, but fleen from hym; for thei han not knowun the vois of aliens. |
[7]Jeshu saith to them again, Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate of the flock; |
[7]Jhesus seide to hem this prouerbe; but thei knewen not what he spak to hem. |
[8]And all those who have come were thieves and robbers, but the flock heard them not. |
[8]Therfor Jhesus seide to hem eftsoone, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, that Y am the dore of the scheep. |
[9]I am the gate; by me if any man enter, he shall live and shall come in, and go out, and find pasture. |
[9]As many as han come, weren nyyt theues and day theues, but the scheep herden not hem. |
[10]The thief cometh not but to steal and to kill and destroy: I am come that they may have life, and that which is more. |
[10]Y am the dore. If ony man schal entre bi me, he schal be sauyd; and he schal go ynne, and schal go out, and he schal fynde lesewis. |
[11]I am the good shepherd, and the good shepherd his life layeth down for his flock. |
[11]A nyyt theef cometh not, but that he stele, sle, and leese; and Y cam, that thei han lijf, and haue more plenteousli. |
[12]The hireling who is not the shepherd, and whose the sheep are not, when he seeth the wolf coming, leaveth the flock and fleeth; and the wolf cometh ravaging and destroying the flock. |
[12]I am a good scheepherde; a good scheepherde yyueth his lijf for hise scheep. |
[13]But the hireling fleeth because he is an hireling, and careth not for the flock. |
[13]But an hirid hyne, and that is not the scheepherde, whos ben not the scheep his owne, seeth a wolf comynge, and he leeueth the scheep, and fleeth; and the wolf rauyschith, and disparplith the scheep. |
[14]I am the good shepherd, and know my own, and am known of my own. |
[14]And the hirid hyne fleeth, for he is an hirid hyne, and it parteyneth not to hym of the scheep. |
[15]As my Father knoweth me [and] I know my Father, and my life I lay down for the flock. |
[15]Y am a good scheepherde, and Y knowe my scheep, and my scheep knowen me. |
[16]But I have other sheep also which are not of this fold; and these also it behoveth me to bring, and they will hear my voice, and all shall become one flock and one shepherd. |
[16]As the fadir hath knowun me, Y knowe the fadir; and Y putte my lijf for my scheep. |
[17]On this account my Father loveth me, because I lay down my life again to take it. |
[17]Y haue othere scheep, that ben not of this foolde, and it bihoueth me to brynge hem togidir, and thei schulen here my vois; and it schal be maad o foolde and o scheepherde. |
[18]No man taketh it away from me, but I lay it down from my will; for I am able to lay it down, and I am able to take it again; for this commandment have I received from my Father. |
[18]Therfor the fadir loueth me, for Y putte my lijf, that eftsoone Y take it. |
[19]And there was again a division among the Jihudoyee because of his words: |
[19]No man takith it fro me, but Y putte it of my silf. Y haue power to putte it, and Y haue power to take it ayen. This maundement Y haue takun of my fadir. |
[20]And many of them said, He has a devil, and is altogether insane,ⓘ why do you hear him? |
[20]Eft dissencioun was maad among the Jewis for these wordis. |
[21]But others said, These words are not of a demoniac: how can a devil open the eyes of the blind? |
[21]And many of hem seiden, He hath a deuel, and maddith; what heren ye hym? |
[22]IT was the feast of the renovation at Urishlem, and it was winter. |
[22]Othere men seiden, These wordis ben not of a man that hath a feend. Whether the deuel may opene the iyen of blynde men? |
[23]And Jeshu walked in the temple in the portico of Shelumun. |
[23]But the feestis of halewyng of the temple weren maad in Jerusalem, and it was wyntir. |
[24]And the Jihudoyee surrounded him, saying to him, How long takest thou our souls? If thou art the Meshicha, tell us openly. |
[24]And Jhesus walkide in the temple, in the porche of Salomon. |
[25]Jeshu answered and said to them, I have told you, and you believe not. The works that I do in the name of my Father, these witness for me. |
[25]Therfor the Jewis camen aboute hym, and seiden to hym, Hou long takist thou awei oure soule? if thou art Crist, seie thou to vs opynli. |
[26]But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep, [even] as I told you. |
[26]Jhesus answerde to hem, Y speke to you, and ye bileuen not; the werkis that Y do in the name of my fadir, beren witnessyng of me. |
[27]My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; |
[27]But ye bileuen not, for ye ben not of my scheep. |
[28]And I give to them the life which is eternal, and they shall not perish for ever, and no man shall snatch them from my hands. |
[28]My scheep heren my vois, and Y knowe hem, and thei suen me. |
[29]For my Father who gave them to me than all is greater; and no man from the hand of my Father can snatch them. |
[29]And Y yyue to hem euerelastynge lijf, and thei schulen not perische with outen ende, and noon schal rauysche hem fro myn hoond. |
[30]I and my Father are One. |
[30]That thing that my fadir yaf to me, is more than alle thingis; and no man may rauysche fro my fadris hoond. |
[31]And again the Jihudoyee took up stones to stone him. |
[31]Y and the fadir ben oon. |
[32]Jeshu saith to them, Many good works from my Father have I showed you: on account of which of these works do you stone me? |
[32]The Jewis token vp stoonys, to stoone hym. |
[33]The Jihudoyee say to him, Not on account of the good works do we stone thee, but because thou blasphemest; thou, being a son of man, making thyself Aloha. |
[33]Jhesus answerde to hem, Y haue schewide to you many good werkis of my fadir, for which werk of hem stonen ye me? |
[34]Jeshu saith to them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are Alohee? |
[34]The Jewis answerden to hym, We stoonen thee not of good werk, but of blasfemye, and for thou, sithen thou art a man, makist thi silf God. |
[35]If them he calleth Alohee, because with them was the word of Aloha, and the scripture cannot be loosed, |
[35]Jhesus answerde to hem, Whether it is not writun in youre lawe, That Y seide, Ye ben goddis? |
[36]To him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world, say you, Thou blasphemest, because I have said to you, I am the Son of Aloha? |
[36]Yf he seide that thei weren goddis, to whiche the word of God was maad, and scripture may not be vndon, |
[37]And if I do not the works of my Father, believe me not; |
[37]thilke that the fadir hath halewid, and hath sent in to the world, ye seien, That `thou blasfemest, for Y seide, Y am Goddis sone? |
[38]But if I do, though you believe not me, the works believe, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and [that] I [am] in the Father. |
[38]Yf Y do not the werkis of my fadir, nyle ye bileue to me; |
[39]And they sought again to apprehend him; but he went forth from among their hands: |
[39]but if Y do, thouy ye wolen not bileue to me, bileue ye to the werkis; that ye knowe and bileue, that the fadir is in me, and Y in the fadir. |
[40]And he went beyond Jurdan, to the place where Juchanon at first had baptized, and was there. |
[40]Therfor thei souyten to take hym, and he wente out of her hondis. |
[41]And many came to him, and said, Juchanon did not one sign; but every thing which Juchanon said concerning this man was true. |
[41]And he wente eftsoone ouer Jordan, in to that place where Joon was firste baptisynge, and he dwelte there. |
[42]And many believed in him. |
[42]And manye camen to hym, and seiden, For Joon dide no myracle; |
