[1]αδελφοι η μεν ευδοκια της εμης καρδιας και η δεησις η προς τον θεον υπερ του ισραηλ εστιν εις σωτηριαν [1]My Brethren, The desire of my heart, and my intercession with God for them, is, that they might have life.
[2]μαρτυρω γαρ αυτοις οτι ζηλον θεου εχουσιν αλλ ου κατ επιγνωσιν [2]For I bear them witness, that there is in them a zeal for God; but it is not according to knowledge.
[3]αγνοουντες γαρ την του θεου δικαιοσυνην και την ιδιαν δικαιοσυνην ζητουντες στησαι τη δικαιοσυνη του θεου ουχ υπεταγησαν [3]For they know not the righteousness of God, but seek to establish their own righteousness: and therefore they have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.
[4]τελος γαρ νομου χριστος εις δικαιοσυνην παντι τω πιστευοντι [4]For Messiah is the aim of the law, for righteousness, unto every one that believeth in him.
[5]μωσης γαρ γραφει την δικαιοσυνην την εκ του νομου οτι ο ποιησας αυτα ανθρωπος ζησεται εν αυτοις [5]For Moses describeth the righteousness, which is by the law, thus: Whoever shall do these things, shall live by them.
[6]η δε εκ πιστεως δικαιοσυνη ουτως λεγει μη ειπης εν τη καρδια σου τις αναβησεται εις τον ουρανον τουτ εστιν χριστον καταγαγειν [6]But the righteousness which is by faith, saith thus: Thou shalt not say in thy heart, Who ascendeth to heaven, and bringeth Messiah down?
[7]η τις καταβησεται εις την αβυσσον τουτ εστιν χριστον εκ νεκρων αναγαγειν [7]Or, Who descendeth to the abyss of the grave, and bringeth up Messiah from the place of the dead?
[8]αλλα τι λεγει εγγυς σου το ρημα εστιν εν τω στοματι σου και εν τη καρδια σου τουτ εστιν το ρημα της πιστεως ο κηρυσσομεν [8]But what saith it? The thing is near to thy mouth, and to thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we proclaim.
[9]οτι εαν ομολογησης εν τω στοματι σου κυριον ιησουν και πιστευσης εν τη καρδια σου οτι ο θεος αυτον ηγειρεν εκ νεκρων σωθηση [9]And if thou shalt confess with thy mouth our Lord Jesus, and shalt believe with thy heart, that God hath raised him from the dead; thou shalt live.
[10]καρδια γαρ πιστευεται εις δικαιοσυνην στοματι δε ομολογειται εις σωτηριαν [10]For the heart that believeth in him, is justified; and the mouth that confesseth him, is restored to life.
[11]λεγει γαρ η γραφη πας ο πιστευων επ αυτω ου καταισχυνθησεται [11]For the scripture saith: Every one that believeth in him, shall not be ashamed.
[12]ου γαρ εστιν διαστολη ιουδαιου τε και ελληνος ο γαρ αυτος κυριος παντων πλουτων εις παντας τους επικαλουμενους αυτον [12]And in this, it discriminateth neither Jews nor Gentiles. For there is one Lord over them all, who is rich, towards every one that calleth on him.
[13]πας γαρ ος αν επικαλεσηται το ονομα κυριου σωθησεται [13]For every one that shall call on the name of the Lord, will have life.
[14]πως ουν επικαλεσονται εις ον ουκ επιστευσαν πως δε πιστευσουσιν ου ουκ ηκουσαν πως δε ακουσουσιν χωρις κηρυσσοντος [14]How then shall they call on him, in whom they have not believed? Or, how shall they believe in him, of whom they have not heard? Or, how shall they hear, without a preacher?
[15]πως δε κηρυξουσιν εαν μη αποσταλωσιν καθως γεγραπται ως ωραιοι οι ποδες των ευαγγελιζομενων ειρηνην των ευαγγελιζομενων τα αγαθα [15]Or, how shall they preach, if they are not sent forth? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of the heralds of peace, and of the heralds of good things?
[16]αλλ ου παντες υπηκουσαν τω ευαγγελιω ησαιας γαρ λεγει κυριε τις επιστευσεν τη ακοη ημων [16]But all of them have not obeyed the proclamation of the gospel. (For, Isaiah said: My Lord, who hath believed our proclamation?)
[17]αρα η πιστις εξ ακοης η δε ακοη δια ρηματος θεου [17]Therefore, faith is from the hearing of the ear; and the hearing of the ear, is from the word of God.
[18]αλλα λεγω μη ουκ ηκουσαν μενουνγε εις πασαν την γην εξηλθεν ο φθογγος αυτων και εις τα περατα της οικουμενης τα ρηματα αυτων [18]But I say: Have they not heard? And, lo, their proclamation hath gone out into all the earth; and their words to the ends of the world.
[19]αλλα λεγω μη ουκ εγνω ισραηλ πρωτος μωσης λεγει εγω παραζηλωσω υμας επ ουκ εθνει επι εθνει ασυνετω παροργιω υμας [19]But I say: Did not Israel know? First, Moses said, thus: I will awaken your emulation, by a people which is not a people; and by a disobedient people, I will provoke you.
[20]ησαιας δε αποτολμα και λεγει ευρεθην τοις εμε μη ζητουσιν εμφανης εγενομην τοις εμε μη επερωτωσιν [20]And Isaiah was bold, and said: I was seen by those who sought me not; and I was found by those who inquired not for me.
[21]προς δε τον ισραηλ λεγει ολην την ημεραν εξεπετασα τας χειρας μου προς λαον απειθουντα και αντιλεγοντα [21]But to Israel, he said: All the day, have I stretched out my hands to a contentious and disobedient people.
